Connie Barrera #2

Sailor's Delight

Rate this book
Sailor's Delight is the second book in the Connie Barrera Thrillers, a romantic thriller series from the author of the best-selling Bluewater Thrillers.

Connie and her First Mate and fiancé, Paul Russo, have just completed their first charter. Paul has been back in Miami for a few days, dealing with the sale of his condo there, leaving Connie aboard her yacht, Diamantista, in Grenada.

She's getting the boat ready for their next guests, who arrive tomorrow, and fantasizing about Paul's return this evening. While putting away their laundry, she finds an unexpected reminder of one of their last guests, stashed in Paul's drawer. The lusty young widow hadn't been able to keep her hands off him, but now Connie wonders if he'd been encouraging her advances.

Beset by pangs of jealousy, she's hurt and angry. Knowing that she won't be able to resolve this with Paul before their guests come aboard, she does her best to suppress her feelings, but Paul can tell something's wrong.

When the teenaged daughter of their guests is kidnapped by white slavers and Connie single-mindedly pursues her own plan to recover the girl, her relationship with Paul comes under even more strain.

Will they get the girl back? Will Connie and Paul survive as a couple? Read Sailor's Delight and find out.

Welcome aboard!
Charles Dougherty is a lifelong sailor; he's lived what he writes. He and his wife have spent over 30 years sailing together. For 15 years, they lived aboard their boat full-time, cruising the East Coast and the islands. They spent most of that time exploring the Eastern Caribbean. Dougherty is well acquainted with the islands and their people. The characters and locations in his novels reflect his experience.
A storyteller before all else, Dougherty lets his characters speak for themselves. Pick up one of his thrillers and listen to the sound of adventure as you smell the salt air. Enjoy the views of distant horizons and meet some people you won't forget.
Dougherty has written over 25 books. His Bluewater Thrillers are set in the yachting world of the Caribbean and chronicle the adventures of two young women running a luxury charter yacht in a rough-and-tumble environment. The Connie Barrera Thrillers are also set in the Caribbean and feature some of the same characters from a slightly more romantic perspective. Besides the Bluewater Thrillers and the Connie Barrera Thrillers, he wrote The Redemption of Becky Jones, a psycho-thriller, and The Lost Tourist Franchise, a short story about one of the characters from Deception in Savannah.
He has also written two non-fiction books. Life's a Ditch is the story of how he and his wife moved aboard their sailboat, Play Actor, and their adventures along the east coast of the U.S. Dungda de Islan' relates their experiences while cruising the Caribbean.

A whale of a tale!

If you love tropical escapes and want to see and taste the best of the islands, while doing it on a sailboat in the lap of luxury, but don't have deep enough pockets, this book will take you there.
Based on the author's experiences with his wife as they sailed for 15 years along the Atlantic coast and the eastern Caribbean islands, you won't find a novel that has more authenticity, unless its a travel guide to the Caribbean!

This is probably the best book this talented author has penned to date. Already known for exciting thrillers in the Bluewater series, the Connie Barerra Thriller series is proving to be more than just a spin off. They are taking their rightful place alongside Mr. Dougherty's classic superb offerings.

The biggest take away on this book for me, at least, is that in addition to expertly showing his talent for action, mystery, and thrills, he is proving to be a master at portraying complicated human relationships. You really CARE about the main characters, and quickly turn the pages to see where it all ends up. They seem very real to you.

As before, he brings in "friends" from the other books to assist in solving the problem, and that is a welcome development, as we have come to have high regard the secondary characters as well. And in this book, we are treated to an "Easter egg" of sorts when we see that the central characters are actually from a previous book of his, and we get a further take on them in a heart warming way. I just love all the cross referencing and guest starring that typify this author's books.

I can hardly wait for Mr. Dougherty's next effort.

Captain Barrera sails into dangerous waters

The Caribbean seemed like a serene and beautiful place to spend a month sailing with a polite teenage girl and her loving parents, but trouble sneaks up the unsuspecting family. Now it's up to Connie and Paul to rescue the teenager, Julie, and keep her parents calm while they hunt the bad guys down.

Connie and Paul navigate the troublesome waters of their own relationship while they chase white slavers. Did Connie make a mistake by trusting Paul? Can Paul keep his cool as he goes into "cop mode" to investigate the crime? Familiar characters help Captain Barrera during the intense crisis. Sharktooth roars onto the scene with his wicked grin and sharp filet knife ready for business, and Phillip's network of intelligence assets help him track the villains to their lair. Time is not on their side, but Connie is now the captain of her own ship, and she won't let a passenger flounder. She's ready to lead the fight and kick some butt!

If you enjoyed the Bluewater Series, this book will appeal to you! It's another great thriller.
