CAUGHT IN THE ACT

Olivia Bennett is not having a happy birthday. Instead of blowing out her twenty-nine candles, she's stuck in jail, caught red-handed in a graffiti incident that (perhaps) involved one too many strawberry margaritas. Worst idea ever. The only bright side is that she ended up in the strong arms of the most gorgeous lawman she's ever seen.

Pete Sampson (aka Deputy Hot Stuff) faces intense pressure from the sheriff to find out who's behind a string of vandalisms. And after her spray-painting spree, Olivia is suspect number one. Still, Pete can't stop thinking about her. Wanting her. Now he's torn between his duty and his overpowering desire for the vivacious waitress. But he may have to bend the rules because true love is more important than the letter of the law ...

The third book of Rachel Lacey’s Love to the Rescue series features opposite couple, animal activist Olivia Bennett and Sheriff’s Deputy Pete Sampson. Pete caught Olivia red-handed, when she was in the process of vandalizing the wall of a chicken processing plant in Dogwood, which had gained reputation of abusive treatment of the animals. That should be the end of it, except that Olivia also became a target of some threats after her action…

On the surface, I should have loved this… There was a sweet chemistry between Pete and Olivia – as he starting to care for her and feeling protective towards Olivia especially after she became a target of some vandalism as well. Pete was a nice guy – even if he had baggage of his own – and I should admire Olivia for her passion towards saving the animals. I liked that Pete didn’t immediately antagonize Olivia, even if his boss told him that Olivia was a suspect of other vandalism as well. I also liked that Olivia didn’t just back down.

However, something stopped me from loving this more than I should. I had to think about it overnight because it made me wonder. Then I realized that I wasn’t feeling Olivia 100 percent. I didn’t love her “I don’t know what to do with myself and let me wait until I’m 30” attitude. At first, I thought it was because her parents were the pressuring kind, so she was suffocated by it. But it didn’t turn out to be that way. Her father loved her – and supported her in every way.

Then, her method in saving the farm-animals: online with Facebook and blog. She seemed to really care about the ‘likes’ number. To me, if she really is an activist, she should just ‘go to the street’ and be more proactive about it. Do real action and not just worry about online content. Olivia also seemed ‘clueless’ about the result of her demand, that shutting down a factory would actually make thousands of people lose their job. She didn’t get that.

So in the end, I could only see Olivia as rather immature in her actions, another rich kid with ‘a rich kid’ problem. That’s why I didn’t love this as much as I wanted it to, even if I still enjoyed the whole set-up overall. Besides, the animals were there to give another form of entertainment. Olivia’s stray cat and foster dogs, along with Pete’s dog, amused me every time they were on page.

Summary
Olivia Bennet is not having the best birthday. She got drunk and somehow convinced herself that spraying graffiti would be a good idea. What is worse, she gets caught and thrown in jail. Apparently the evidence of too much alcohol in her system. She does have one highlight of her night, the cop that ends up arresting her is drop dead gorgeous and she is in serious trouble because their attraction is sizzling. Pete Samson, is going to be up for detective soon, and he is getting much pressure from his boss, to get to the bottom of vandalism attacks, and his main suspect is Olivia Bennet. But he is drawn to Olivia, and she just doesn't fit the MO of these attacks. He knows it is forbidden to pursue any type of relationship with Olivia, but when personal attacks start happening at her home, he is getting worried that something serious is at work here and he is going to get to the bottom of it. When his relationship with Olivia starts to grow, he isn't sure he is ready for it, or the feelings she would evoke in him. Will both Olvia and Pete trust in their feelings for each other to have a future or will they have to let each other go?
The Hero

Pete Sampson works as a deputy and is currently striving to become a detective, which is his dream. Pete became a law officer because of his father. His father was a drug addict and through a course of events, ended up committing murder and is now in jail. He grew up with some dark times, but he always was close to this mother and sister. Even though Pete was once married, he has a hard time with trust and opening himself up to someone again, especially a woman who is so bad for him and his future. Pete is honorable and trustworthy but is also dealing with some inner demons that prevent him from being completely open to anyone. Pete was quite the sexy and irresistible hero. He likes animals, great with kids, honest and hard working and can curl your toes with one look.

The Heroine
Olivia Bennett is twenty-nine years old, was attending law school but wasn't sure that being a lawyer was what she truly wanted for herself. She is a large supporter of the right treatment of animals. Her most passionate cause is the chicken plant in their local area. She runs a website with videos of cruel treatment of chickens, that include torture and situations that would sicken anyone. She is determined to fight for those animals, that deserve respect even if they are about to be killed for food. I found Olivia to be quite passionate and still searching for her dreams. She doesn't even know what she really "wants to be when she grows up" but in Ever After we see her see what is right for her, which is fighting for what she believes in the most. Olivia was quite lively at times, spirited and dedicated. It was quite engaging to see a heroine have many qualities that you could see being best friends with her.
Plot and Story Line

Ever After is the first time I have ever read this author, and when I received this ARC from Netgalley, well I wasn't sure what to expect, but I always love trying new authors. And quite frankly I just couldn't resist trying it out. The first thing that drew me was the cover, and this book totally drew me in with the cover alone. I was shocked when I started reading Ever After, and I was instantly captivated by this author's writing style. The first page alone, with a few sentences and I had to know more. What we have is the beginning starts with out heroine vandalizing the Chicken Slaughter House and she is trying to make a statement. This company is nationwide, but she has set her mind on accomplishing her goals. She is drunk, which she was an amusing drunk, boy was she hilarious. Loved the humor and trying to charm the sexy cop---but really didn't work that well. These two have sparks, even though at first they are literally on opposite sides of the law. But we soon realize what a wonderful human Olivia is. She faces what she has done and accepts it and makes reparations for it. She doesn't make excuses or complains, she just takes it in stride. I don't know about you all, but I love seeing that strength just shine through. Now let us talk a bit about our hero. Now I don't think I have read many cop romances, but this one had me. Pete is a cop, he is devoted to his work and loves what he does. He is very black and white most of the time until Olivia enters his life. And soon he sees a woman that made a mistake while drunk. He sees her courage and passion and standing for what is right....and not what is easy. Pete struggles with some issues, many of them emotional and still hasn't truly faced his past and his childhood which haunts him. Olivia is the key to helping him heal, but we see how he has to want to heal and accept her love and acceptance.

When you were teaching me how to meditate, you kept telling me to find my center and my happy place, but the truth is that you're my center. Wherever you are is where I need to be.

There were so many memorable moments in this story that had me completely hooked. Now what I adored most about this book was how entrenched I was in the story...and couldn't put it down. Stayed up pretty late reading it, but so worth it!! Bring on more Rachel Lacey....GIMME MORE!! :)

The Cover
This is such an adorable cover. I love how affectionate they seem to be together, and boy look at his muscles...just yummy. And I love the country background, with the green hills, and the dog and little kitten---so adorable right?!!
Overall View

Ever After is the third book in the Love to the Rescue series by Rachel Lacey and I just Loved it! Not only is this book about two people falling in love, but it brings awareness to animal abuse and pet adoption which I thought was pretty special.

Olivia is animal activist and wants to stop the abuse of chickens in a local factory. On her birthday she decided to get drunk and spray paint graffiti on the building to help bring awareness to the situation. Unfortunately she is caught red handed (literally) and is arrested by a sexy police officer, Pete.

“You want to tell me what you’re doing out here tonight?” She kept her back to him. “It’s fairly obvious, right?” He looked up. The side of the building dripped with big, red letters. It was obvious all right, but he wouldn’t be surprised if she tried to talk her way out of it anyway. “Chicken ass?”he read. What the hell was that even supposed to mean? Kids these days. He shook his head in annoyance. She made a choking sound, squinting up at her handiwork. “I wasn’t finished.” “Do tell.” “It was supposed to say Chicken Assassins.”

Olivia and Pete are insanely attracted to one another which I loved even though he knows being associated with her could hurt his career in becoming detective. Pete stays away as much as he can but then little things start happening to Olivia such as someone vandalizing her house and car, throwing chicken corpses over her fence and hacking into her social media accounts. As Pete tries to keep her safe the romance between these two just bloom.

Olivia and Pete were so different but at the same time so right for one another. I loved the characters, the town, and the suspense on what was going to happen next. I was engaged from the beginning to the end and not once did I actually want this book to end.

I am so glad I read this book and got a chance to read a new author. I will definitely be reading the first two books in this series and more from Rachel Lacey. If you are a lover of animals and a sweet romance this is the book for you!

Olivia Bennett dropped out of law school and is currently working at a café and fostering dogs for her friend's rescue business. She's not sure where her life is going or what she wants it to be. And how did Olivia decided to spend her 29 birthday? Doing graffiti to protest chickens conditions at the chicken-processing plant. How did Olivia ended the day ? Yup, in a jail cell. Deputy Pete Sampson answered the call and arrested her. She would never have thought that the sexy lawman would become her best ally and a strong present to protect her from the enemies she made. Falling for the cop who arrested her was not part of the plan, and give in to the attraction then the feelings he develop for her would make things more complicated for Pete's plan to become detective, but with what's brewing between them, a fling could never be enough.

The story was good but I think what made this book special were the characters and their natural and hot chemistry . Two authentic and generous souls who found each other. Olivia is passionated and she fight for her beliefs, never surrendering no matter how hard the obstacles. She's not a dog person but still accepted to foster a few to help a friend. Pete also agreed to adopt a German sheperd that flunked out the K9 program. He felt guilty for a long time about something his father did that broke a family but even with his baggage, Pete's heart was open to Olivia right from the start. I think that's where they shine the most, both being unselfish person. Other proof of his goodness? When he can't sleep, Pete bake and always bring the food to women's shelter the day after. How sweet and sexy is that?!

I was provided with a copy from a twitter contest. While I was not asked to review this, I wanted to share my honest thoughts on her book. Thanks, Lacey! :D

"Well no offense, Timber, but I prefer men who still have their manhood intact."

As my first actual "romance novel", I was pretty excited and a little hesitant to read this. The premise was promising: Olivia is a huge animal rights activist and gets put in jail for vandalizing Dogwood's chicken processing plant. While drunk. Along comes the hero, Pete,-who might as well be the villain in her book considering he just arrested her. Oh, and this is all on her birthday!

Olivia might have just found a wonderful b-day present though, because Pete and her immediately have chemistry. Which isn't too ideal considering their situations. See, Pete's going to be a detective soon, but right now he has to deal with a case of vandalism. And Olivia happens to be the main suspect...

Pete's a guy who does not put her down, respects her, and despite his boss pressuring the poor dude, he never immoderately jumps on Olivia and antagonizes her. He listens to her, and slowly, falls for her.

Pete loves animals, has some daddy issues, and just wants to live his own life. His previous marriage left him distrustful of other women and it was actually interesting to see him struggle with his infatuations that blossomed into something more for this feisty girl.

Olivia was a heroine I thought I would LOVE. While that didn't happen, I still liked her enough to keep reading. She was strong in her beliefs, she loves animals (how can you NOT?) and she won't take crap from anyone. She realizes her faults and tries to better herself instead of exclaiming that she knows all because she's the protagonist. And even when Pete starts to become more prominent in her life, she still remembers what's important to her and doesn't let him become her only focus. Which isn't something I can say about most YA these days...

The great thing about these characters was the fact that they actually developed throughout. Pete starts off seeing life as black and white, right and wrong, and the law's way or nothing. When Olivia enters the picture, he has to realize that life might actually be gray. That not everything is clear. She made a mistake while drunk. She's fighting for her dreams and she has a good heart. And deep down he knows that continuing to see her might ruin his chance at a good career.

Usually, I'd draw the line there. Romance shouldn't ruin a chance at a good career, but here it worked. There was a reason for what happened, and call it cheesy all you like, but I enjoyed it.

Now the sexy times;) I'm really critical towards sex in books. If it's pointless, meaningless, or just objectifies one of the participants (usually the woman) I find myself skipping passages. I disliked Confess by Colleen Hoover quite a lot despite the raving reviews most people give it. The sex felt pointless, the hero was CREEPY and unlikable and I felt nothing.

Here, none of that happened. It was one of the factors for the character's growth and Pete even took his time on Olivia ifyouknowwhatimean;) It's still viewed as "taboo" that a woman should be pleasured, sadly, but it's all perfectly fine if the man is. I find that super depressing and sexist. So I was very happy to see that Pete didn't shy from it at all and was pretty excited to please Olivia.

One thing I LOVED: Lacey didn't shy away from possibly "offending" people by her graphic descriptions of the animal cruelty Olivia was so against. It happens every day, and people try to pretend this doesn't exist. I am NOT a huge animal rights person, but I love animals enough to be thankful that people are working hard to combat this atrocious monstrosity that is animal abuse.

https://www.aspca.org/fight-cruelty/f...

To prove my point, I linked a site dealing with this issue, particularly about chickens, which really is a huge focus of this book. The videos are graphic and hard to watch, but if you love animals or you "think" you know about animal abuse, you need to watch this.

The only issues I had with this was that sometimes the sexy times were worded a little awkwardly. It sounded strange in some parts and disconnected me from the scene.

Olivia was also kind of a snob at times. I can get behind her passion for saving animals, but when she claims to be so supportive and then instead of going out and actually doing something (like in the beginning, except, in a legal manner) she uses Facebook?

And she believes all those likes will do a lot. Yes, numbers mean something, but it doesn't do nearly as much as getting out there and making a scene. Showing people what's up. And Olivia felt like she was that character, so it was jolting to see she resorted to this.

Overall, pretty enjoyable! I wasn't sure what to expect when it arrived. All I knew was that I was pretty ecstatic because I rarely win anything at all and since I'm broke, a free book is more than enough to make my day, or life. While it does become a little cheesy, it's still entertaining and deals with some heavy topics maturely.

Solid read if you're into romance novels!!

After one too margaritas, Olivia Bennett decides to celebrate her twenty-ninth birthday by spray-painting the side of a chicken processing plant in hopes of bringing awareness to the animal cruelty going on in the plant. However, things go slightly awry when she tumbles from her ladder straight into the arms of the deputy sheriff who is there to arrest her for vandalism.

Although Pete Sampson caught Olivia red-handed, his gut is telling him that the attractive waitress isn’t the one leading a string a vandalisms the sheriff is trying to tie her to. While there is no denying the spark he feels toward Olivia, he’s determined to stay as far away from her as possible because he’s not interesting in a relationship. Yet when Olivia becomes the target of a new string of vandalisms, his protective instincts kick in and he soon finds himself sharing his home with the woman he should be avoiding.

Ever After had it all; humor, heart, heat, charming characters, and a bevy of lovable yet quirky animals that occasionally stole the show.

Olivia was an easy character to like. She’s passionate, headstrong, not afraid to pursue what she wants but she’s also searching for a career that makes her happy. She’s just turned twenty-nine and she still hasn’t discovered what she wants to do with her life and the timeframe to accept her parents offer to pay for her to finish law school is starting to run out. Because she’s deviated from the career plan her parents had for her, she feels like she can’t get anything right, so she’s carrying around a bit of self doubt. There’s also an incident in her past that makes her question whether or not the mind blowing passion she feels for Pete is the right fit for her or just something that she’s diving head first into without thinking.

I was a bit hesitant about this one because Olivia is an animal rights activist. When a character is an activist, occasionally they come off a little bit too pushy for my liking although, with Olivia, thankfully this wasn’t the case. She was passionate about her cause, and I could feel the passion she carried for it, yet it was tastefully done.

There was so much about Pete that I adored. He takes in a dog that’s flunked his K-9 training, he bakes muffins for the women’s shelter, and rescues kittens for the woman he’s just arrested. I mean, what’s not to love about him? He’s pretty much a good guy from top to bottom and has definitely made my list of lovable heroes.

Pete’s also a bit damaged. He’s carrying around a ton of guilt about an event he believes is his fault. It’s wrecked his marriage and has left him sort of emotionally capped off. He’s had a few one-night stands and he’s completely fine with not going down the happily ever after road again. Then Olivia literally falls into his arms and there’s no denying that he’s feeling something for her but he’s going to his best to fight it off because she’s a criminal and he’s trying to make detective.

The chemistry between Olivia and Pete was outstanding. There was so much sexual tension between the two of them you could cut it with a knife. I also enjoyed the conflict between them. Not only could you see external conflict come into play, but the internal conflict was there as well.

There’s a tiny bit of suspense thrown in the mix in the form of someone vandalizing Olivia’s car and home. I really enjoyed watching this play out and how it brought Pete and Olivia closer together.

This was my first time reading this series and even though it’s the third book in Rachel Lacey’s Love To The Rescue series, the book worked brilliantly as a standalone. All the pertinent information was provided without feeling like an info dump or bogging down the flow.

While I enjoyed Ever After, I did have a few problems with it. Pete’s divorce was a topic that came up a lot in the narrative and the failure of his marriage was one of the reasons he felt he couldn’t be with Olivia yet the topic wasn’t actually brought up with Olivia. Also, the absolution of Pete’s guilt felt a bit abrupt, as though they needed to hurry up and deal with it because the book was coming to an end and they needed everything to be tied up in a nice little bow.

Overall, I enjoyed Ever After. There were a few problems but the book hooked me and I could not put it down. I will be looking forward to reading the first two books in this series.

Olivia Bennett will do anything to fight for a cause she believes in. That is why she finds herself in jail, after being caught in an act of vandalism. She is caught spray painting on the side of Halverson Foods chicken processing plant. She is trying to draw attention to the unspeakable abuse the chickens endure before being slaughtered. She has video proof that the chickens are being treated inhumanely before they are killed, but no one is doing anything about the problem. When a policeman catches her on the ladder, spray can in hand, she knows she is in big trouble.

Pete Sampson is the lucky deputy to find Olivia breaking the law. He has no choice but to take her to jail but he is not happy about having to do that. He has never met anyone like Olivia and he wants to get to know her better. Unfortunately it is frowned upon when an arresting officer takes a personal interest in a criminal. The more time he spends with Olivia, the harder it is to remember that fact.

The characters are well rounded and well developed. They are definitely people I would like to know and call friends. Their love of animals and their willingness to go the extra mile to protect those who cannot protect themselves made me really like them. I really like the fact Olivia’s friends, Cara and Mercy, (from books one and two) are back in this book and it was great to catch up on what was happening in their lives.

Olivia is someone who believes in protecting all animals and is not afraid to do what is necessary to achieve that goal. She is feisty and is able to take care of herself. She does not need to be rescued by anyone. She has some baggage that she carries around because she feels like she is a total screw up much of the time. She left law school and does not think she wants to go back to become a lawyer. She has no career to speak of and she feels like she has let her parents down. She has not had the best of luck in the romance department and she knows she has to get her act together. She needs to find a career to pursue and the right man so she can have her happily-ever after.

Pete is a great guy but he also has baggage from his past. His father is an alcoholic who is currently in jail because he killed someone. Pete feels responsible because his testimony led to his father getting out on parole early and that is when the accident happened that left someone dead. Olivia knows that Pete has some secrets from his past and she knows that he needs to learn to relax and forgive himself. She is willing to do whatever it takes to help him achieve these goals, including teaching him meditation, which he does not believe in. Watching the relationship develop between Olivia and Pete made for a really good read.

The writing style flows smoothly and the books is an easy read. This book has a little bit of everything: humor, romance, suspense, friendship, forgiveness and of course, animals. I really enjoyed reading about all the cats and dogs and the way that the humans did their best to give them happy lives. Some of the descriptions about the chickens are a little difficult to read about but it was an important part of the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys well crafted contemporary women’s fiction. I have read all three books in this series and I loved them all. I am sad that this is probably be the last book in the series. Do yourself a favor and pick up the whole series to read. You will be very glad that you did.

You can’t go wrong with a hottie, by the book sheriff and his attraction toward an animal rights activist who sometimes drives him up the wall, but in the same turn, wants to kiss the daylights out of her, and keep on kissing her as his way to keep her in line. Ever After (Love to the Rescue #3) by Rachel Lacey has a whole lot of cute going on. A little off the wall, but has a lot of heart on the pages with cute doggy antics, and some great chemistry between the hero and heroine, who are complete opposites.

Olivia was arrested by Pete because of a dare. She had one too many drinks to celebrate her birthday, and her two friends dared her to paint graffiti on a tower at a chicken processing plant that she found out has been abusing the chickens before they are slaughtered. As Olivia is in the process of finishing her graffiti, she’s caught and taken to jail by Pete, a sheriff who hopes to be detective one day. Pete is a very dedicated police officer, who follows the rules in every aspect of his life. At first he seems like a distant, cold fish type. The reason is because his father, who was a substance abuse addict, ended up killing a man in a car accident, and is now in jail. Pete lives with the shame of his father, who never respected his wife or kids. Pete spends most of his private time baking cupcakes for a women’s shelter (awww), and becoming the dad to a dog who was training as a police dog, but failed (double aww). When he meets Olivia, he’s thrown for a loop because she’s a rebel with a heart who he can’t help but like.

Olivia ends up in court, but is forced to do community service instead of being arrested. She still wants to fight for the rights of the chickens, and remains outspoken on her website and social media to get the word out. She also works at a cafe, and fosters two dogs. She doesn’t have a high opinion on Pete, but eventually she forgives him because he was just doing his job, plus he has a dog, do he can’t be that bad of a guy. But because Pete is up for detective, he has to be careful where Olivia is concerned. He shows up at her work, and at her house in the guise of making sure she’s behaving. At first she doesn’t see through his strange, but adorable courtship. But then someone is out to get Olivia by spray painting her car, house, and hacking into her website. The police ignore her because they think she’s lying, but Pete is there to help her. He does a little investigating on the side to find those people who are scaring Olivia into silence. She won’t be silenced, which makes Pete want to protect her. His protection becomes much more than that.

Ever After is a cute romance about two animal lovers. It’s a very solid contemporary romance with a few messages. Once Olivia breaks through Pete’s emotional walls, that’s when the romance between them gets up and running. It was nice to see these two get to know one another before they jumped into bed. Pete takes Olivia out on old fashioned dates. Olivia takes Pete to parks and the woods to help him meditate. Both are overall kind people who want to right the wrongs of the world in their own special way. They really click well together even though their beliefs and the way they handle things are different from one another.

Ever After is a type of book that gives you major feels as your read, and leaves you with a big smile on your face.

I’ve been reading some really sweet and emotional love stories that cut right to the heart with their witty dialogues, intense passion, emotional past that molds the characters and an ending that sends tingles of happiness all the way to the tip of the toes!

Rachel Lacey’s third book, “Ever After” in her Love To Rescue Series is one of them that had me rooting for Olivia Bennett as she turns from spunky to caring to emotional to a lover with the hot and sexy soon to be detective Pete Sampson.

Spending her 29th birthday in jail was definitely not in the cards for Olivia but then falling into the hands of Pete Sampson wasn’t either, yet her stint in jail brings her closer to Pete, and Pete can’t seem to stay away from the naughty and sassy Olivia anymore than she can.

But with politics and outside forces keeping them in parallel lines, Pete gives himself to temptation and when Olivia’s life is in danger, he would definitely risk his career for his future. Olivia as the caring and animal activist is just too fab a woman not to fall in love with, and her adventures sure gives Pete sleepless nights. And Pete has his own nightmare of a history that keeps him wary of entanglements and relationships.

Ever After is an emotional read as Olivia tries to find herself in the big bad world. Rachel Lacey keeps the readers entertained with her humor and sass, she keeps us attached with her emotional narration and keeps us warm with the sizzling passion between Olivia and Pete. Simple story with enough forgiveness, charm and love to keep us readers glued to the last page…Ever After is a definite ever after love story

Ever After was a fun and lighthearted romance between an animal activist and a deputy sheriff. Olivia and Pete had meant for each written on them the first time they meet. This is supported by the fact that first, they had a great meet cute. Olivia gets caught spray painting the local chicken factory because of animal abuse and Pete catches her red handed (or white in this case). Way to celebrate her 29th birthday! There were handcuffs and jail time for a first date (sort of)! Second, because this book is part of the Love to the Rescue series, we have some cute dogs and a feral kitten as fantastic secondary characters. A matching his dog and her foster dogs and kitten is sure to make animal lovers swoon everytime these four legged characters make an appearance. Although, Timber and Bailey may have had an unexpected lesson on human sexuality in one scene. Aside from being a fantastic romantic comedy, the characters seem well developed with their own separate back stories that didn't in anyway detract from the main plot. The story just flowed, the romantic relationship between Olivia and Pete started out slow and just developed in a nice pace. As a whole this was just pure fun, entertaining and engaging to read plus cute doggies and kitten who wouldn't love that. This was simply adorable.

"Ever After" by Rachel Lacey is part of the 'Love to Rescue' series book 3. It is my first read from this author, and I am going to go back and read Book 1 and 2 from the series because I enjoyed this one so much. I love series books and even though I know that authors write books to be a read alone book the series books usually have information about a town, or group of people that pertain to the story.

In this book we have Olivia Bennett, who is spending her 29th birthday in jail because of a related, possibly drunken, incident of spray painting a message on a factory wall. It was mostly because of mistreatment of chickens in the processing plant. Olivia is a good person, with a good heart, but gets in trouble for speaking/spray painting her opinion. We also meet Pete Sampson, aka Deputy Hot Stuff, he is a good person but has issues from his past and is trying to prove himself to his boss. The chemistry between these two is immediate.

Much more to the story, but it deserves to be read rather than someone telling you about it. A good, classic romance with a modern twist.

This a funny story and opens with Olivia Bennett painting the side of the barn that is home to a chicken farm that is not killing the chickens fast, but slow and cruel. This is her 29 birthday and she should be celebrating another way but she had too many strawberry margaritas and this sounded like a good idea. That is of course until the cop car showed up and her friends took off and she was left on the ladder with the paint. The good thing about being arrested was Pete Samson was hot and she thought her night was looking better now, a pat down and cuffs. Instead just back of his car and a jail cell until the judge showed up in the morning. It was not all lost though because after her court she went back to work as a waitress at the dinner and Pete started showing up when she was there and making sure he sat at her area. From this point they move through getting to know each other better and though both want to get together they must overcome a few obstacles to make that happen. This is a fun and enjoyable read. I got this book from net galley.

This was a unique plot line.

I really liked Olivia. She stands up for what she believes in and refuses to back down. I loved her dedication to the chickens and the dogs. She didn't act like a damsel in distress and it was refreshing to read. Pete was a little more clichéd, but it was still enjoyable to read the two of them together.

There were a few other characters that I would have liked a little more fleshed out. I'm guessing Merry was in one of the other books and that's the main reason we didn't get much of a background.

All in all, a quick, cute read. I'll probably check out the others in the series.

**Huge thanks to Forever and NetGalley for providing the arc in exchange for an honest review**

I won Rachel Lacey's book, "Ever After" on Good Reads. I enjoyed the main characters, Olivia and Pete and their story. They meet when Deputy Pete Sampson arrests Olivia Bennett for a graffiti incident late one night. Their paths keep crossing and they both want to figure out who is vandalizing her car and house. The one thing that I would change about this book is to include less "intimate scenes". Overall though, this book is a fun read! Both Olivia and Pete are good people--people you come to care about and would like to meet.

Sometimes a girl just needs her daddy's voice of wisdom, “you’re a smart young woman who’s not afraid to speak up for what she believes in. You give voice to the animals no one else cares about. That’s something to be proud of, Olivia.” Olivia knows how to give her man a good wake up, “wake up.” He heard her voice, filtering through the fog of sleep. He grunted. Her hair tickled his chest, and he reached out and yanked her closer against him. Her fingers wrapped around his ***k. “I woke you in time for this,” she whispered." I liked this book and the small town feel of it.

This is the third book in the Love to the Rescue series by Rachel Lacey and in this story we get to meet Olivia and Pete. These characters hit if off to me and I love the way that Rachel gave them chemistry from the start. This can be read as a standalone.

Pete is a deputy, but wants to become a detective. That is his ultimate dream. Pete became a deputy after his father was a drug dealer and ended up committing murder because of his dealings with drugs. Pete was determined not to turn out like that and to help make a difference. Pete was once married but it did not work out and now he has a fear of letting anyone else in his life. Pete is a quiet guy but his looks seem to shout to Olivia!

Olivia is a young lady that is in law school but she is not quiet sure that is what she wants to do with the rest of her life. Olivia also has a passion for animals and preventing cruelty to them. She takes on the local chicken farm as her target and tends to go at them as much as she can.

Olivia gets drunk on her birthday and thinks it would be a good idea to vandalize the chicken house by spray painting on the walls. What she wasn't expecting is for someone to be out there watching and catch her. Not only did someone catch her but it was Pete, a deputy. Olivia gets arrested and spend the night in jail, but she is not too disappointed because Pete as her company, he is a sight to behold.

Pete is doing an investigation into vandalism a knows that Olivia is not the one that he is looking for for all the other accounts. This was a one time thing for her. When Olivia starts getting threats at her house after getting out of jail, Pete takes it upon himself to look out for her, even though he know it might get him in trouble. When Pete and Olivia get closer and closer, sparks begin to fly and these two find themselves together a lot.

Pete is still trying to work through some of his demons from his past, but will he let it get in the way of him and Olivia? You will have to read this one to find out. Good job Rachel Lacey!

First off let me just tell you how much I love this cover. OMG, it's light and cute and you can just feel the magic that is contained in the book. I just adore animals on book covers. I instantly look up the books that I see animals or children on the cover. Wth that said, on to my review

Painting the side of a brain is not what Olivia Bennett had in mind for her 29th birthday. But when you have enough drinks in your system, anything is possible, especially when you are trespassing on other people's property and defacing their building.

Olivia is not trying to relive her teenage days if that's what your thinking, she's trying to stand up for the animals that not much people want to stand up for. She stands up for the cruel injustice that chickens go through before they are brought to the slaughter house in her local chicken farm. Yes, and I did mean chickens.

Before she can finish writing her message, however, bright lights flashed on her and the so-called "friends" that were helping her, ran for the hills, leaving poor Olivia to fend for herself. And when you're drunk by yourself on top of a ladder, falling into the arms of the most gorgeous lawman she has ever seen could happen, and it did for Olivia. Too bad she does not like men in uniform.

Pete Sampson got a call that someone was trespassing at the local chicken plant. When he arrived, he was just in time to catch a kid from falling from a ladder, with his body. On closer inspection, he realized that it was not a stupid kid pulling a prank, with a highly intoxicated female, with a car, but no keys.

Having no choice but to arrest her, Pete takes her in and his life was not the same after that. Pete finds himself attracted to Olivia but keeps his distance since he was her arresting officer and the sheriff wants to pin a string of vandalism charges on Olivia, making her bad company.

Unfortunately for him, you cannot control your hormones and his hormones have him by his balls following Olivia all over town. The sheriff does not like that he has associated himself with Olivia and that may jeopardize Pete's chances of a promotion.

But Olivia herself starts to get vandalized, and the other officers at the station were not taking Olivia seriously, even when the acts of vandalism seem to get bigger and bigger until someone ended up in the hospital. Pete cannot stand by and let Olivia get hurt so he puts it to himself to find out who is behind the vandalism, even with the stubborn woman refusing to co-operate and stay low.

Can Pete keep Olivia safe whilst trying to catch the culprit? Would Olivia back down from what she believes in to save herself? Who ended up in the hospital? Find out in the third installment of the Love and Resue Series, Ever After.

I loved the first two books in the series but for some reason, I had fun reading the book, but this book did not do it for me. I have been anticipating this book for months now and now that I've finally read it, it was not up to my expectations. Maybe my expectations were too high, sometimes that can be a bad thing.

Let's talk about Olivia. She was a brat. Plain and simple. It's admirable that she wants to save the chickens from being treated cruelly before they are slaughtered. Not much people care, but Olivia does, but she goes about it the wrong way.

She's 29 for goodness sake not 15, but it seems as if she does not want to grow up just yet. Her parents are famous lawyers and they wanted her to be a lawyer too, but something happened and she dropped out of school. Now Olivia does not know what she wants to do with her life so she is just drifting through until she can figure out what she wants out of life.

At first, I thought that she ended up this way was because of her strict parents, but that was not the case. Her father loves her and shows it and her mom was not mentioned much in the book, but she seemed loving too. My only conclusion is that Olivia is a spoiled rich girl who does not want to grow up, yet she wants to be independent.

Okay, that was the part of OliviaI could not stand, now lets talk about the parts that I do like. Olivia has a kind heart and loves to help out her friends whenever possible. She does not want to give up and when something forces her too, she feels disappointed in herself. Olivia would stand up for something that most people would tell her was a waste of time and that is very admirable about her.

Olivia has a record of dating lost causes and thought that her luck with men was finally turning around when she felt attraction for Pete. Unfortunately, Pete is emotionally unavailable, at least, that's what he tells himself. I don't understand why Olivia got the idea that she was a constant screw-up and it was bringing her down in a big way, it's a good thing that Pete came into her life...or was it the other way around.

Pete was difficult. He had one failed marriage and a father behind bars and suddenly it's all his fault. Maybe he has a God complex or maybe not, but Pete needed to get over himself. When he met Olivia he wanted nothing to do with her and was prepared to think the worst of her.

Even when they became involved he was quick to think the worst, even though he was the only one in the station that did not write her off. Typical man, he was emotionally unavailable and wanted to have sex with a warm, loving and caring woman without emotional attachment.

Why do men think this way? I liked the chemistry between Olivia and Pete, but I did not like their sex scenes. The only one I liked was when they were interrupted, now that was funny. The sex scenes were not bad, it's just that I've read it all before and I would like something new rather than the touching and kissing and.....you know what I mean.

The bottom line is, I liked the book. It was engaging and so much fun to read. My favorite parts are those that contained the animals, they were cute and adorable and I don't usually like cats, but I could handle Hallie for a few hours, but then I'm giving her back.

Olivia gets caught and arrested while spray painting graffiti on a local factory farm. It's funny, because the phrase "chicken assassins" ended up being "chicken ass" because she got caught. Pete is the deputy that arrested her. That's how she spend her 29th birthday.
I think I liked this one the best in this series. Olivia owned up to her mistake and learned from it. She's passionate about animal welfare and I liked that plot line. She did come across as immature; mainly because she doesn't stand up to her parents. They are both lawyers and dream of her becoming one too. Except, she doesn't want to, so rather then tell them no and do something about it, she dropped out of law school. By the end of the book, she's much more mature and owns it.
Pete dreams of making detective. Divorced and has been BIG parental baggage too. He is stuck in a rut. Olivia gets him out of that rut.
I really liked the animal rights/welfare take in this book (and series). And Hallie was a white kitten and Timber is a German Shepherd- so the cover got it right!

It started off as a really good book. I was getting really into it. Then I found it getting kind of boring. I just felt like the book kept going in circles with the different parts of the story. It seemed to go on without any closure. Then it felt like it suddenly ended. It wasn't a bad book, but I felt like she could have taken some parts out and gone a little more in depth at the end.

This is an author who has found the perfect way to blend attraction, appealing characters and great sex into fun reading. I've read three of her books and each has been a quick and quite satisfying story. I'm planning to work my way through all of her books.

I’ve been binge reading the series. This one brought in two unlikely loves. A protestor and a policeman. I found the end tided up too quickly for me though

Love this series so much. There was so much tension in this one since Pete arrested Olivia in the beginning of the book. He can't be with her since she's on probation and he wants a promotion to detective. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time with this one. Highly recommend!
