John Maxwell’s argument is simple and time-tested: to grow you have to have a strategy to grow. To really grow you need to stick to that strategy for 90 days. And the book is divided into 90 day segments (but it’s really not that long). This isn’t a feel-good self-help book. You won’t grow unless you work hard and are willing to be uncomfortable (real quick: write a list of your strengths and weaknesses and come up with a corresponding strategy. Now. Don’t put it off). See what I mean?

Maxwell’s strength in this book, though, is in his pithy one-liners. Like the book of Proverbs. And that’s what this is: wisdom literature. It’s practical. For example:

“Motivation will get you going. Discipline will keep you growing.”

The heart of the book--and probably the middle of it--is his chapter on systems. Haphazard growth is almost never repeated. Serious growth requires that it be implemented systematically. What “system” are you using to insure that your goal is acquirable and that you aren’t wasting time?

The one thing that really stuck with me was his pithy line about “being stuck in the rut of accidental growth.” Many of us are probably talented enough to keep moving forward but never really breaking through. In other words, you’re good, not great. While you probably won’t ever be a prodigy, Maxwell’s book will help you make breakthroughs.

I am very familiar with John Maxwell and his books, but have never read any of them since they are usually aimed at leaders....which I am not. This little book popped up to review, and I decided to check it out.

It is a small hardcover book, smaller than a trade paperback but larger than a mass market. The book isn't geared for leaders, but for anyone who is aiming for a certain goal or job, or for someone who just wants to improve their life.

This is a self help book of sorts, but from a biblical perspective. It is split up into 90 days. Each day has a quote that has to do with his lesson, then it has the lesson, a question to answer, and a whole page to write your thoughts and answer to the question.

For instance day 50 is on managing your time, and the question asks what system you use to maintain your priorities and what people do you need to give power and responsibility to who can help you in that area.

I haven't read the whole book, as the idea is to read and do one lesson a day, and I did not want to take that long to review the book. However, I am impressed with what I have read so far and have found it helpful. If a person goes through this book and follows the advice, they should definitely experience some growth in some area or areas that they need to improve in.

Interesting book indeed. Although it's quite short but it recommends and asks intriguing questions. Right questions usually lead to right answer. Read it.

Lots of repetitions. I don’t feel like I’ve learnt anything.

John G. Maxwell in his new book, “JumpStart Your Growth” published by FaithWords gives us A 90-Day Improvement Plan.

From the back cover:Can your life really change in 90 days?

John Maxwell says the answer is yes. He shares the secrets to maximizing your personal and professional potential in this 90-day guide, based on his #1 New York Times bestseller, The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.
Named the #1 leader in business by the American Management Association, Maxwell has studied personal development for over fifty years. In this portable guide, he helps you jumpstart your growth by exploring your strengths, identifying your goals, and developing the habits that will positively impact your future. Each day’s lesson offers insight, inspiration, and instruction with prompts for application and action, with space to document the progress you make along your journey.
Whether you’re starting on a new path, working toward that big promotion, or desiring a greater sense of personal achievement, JumpStart Your Growth will give you the tools to become who you were meant to be.

Ever have the battery in your car up and die on you? What do you do? You call a friend who comes over attaches the jumper cables to your car’s battery and guns his engine. Within a few moments you are able to start your car again. With “JumpStart Your Growth” John Maxwell has given us jumper cables for our growth. Each day begins with a quote and then the thought for that day followed by an action that should be taken. All together it should only take fifteen minutes. Doesn’t sound like much does it? Yet here’s the thing: at the end of ninety days if we have read the book and followed the instructions we will be different from when we started. That is the goal of this book. I believe that this would be a great gift to give to family and friends so that they can jumpstart their growth as well.

This is a good book of encouragement. It is not a how-to book. It would be a good book for those who have read about personal growth techniques but have gotten bogged down. It would be good for people who know what they should be doing for their growth but need a boost to keep on track. Each of the 90 readings takes about fifteen minutes, including writing. Maxwell covers a number of topics, such as what keeps us from growing, the need for a strategic plan, making trade-offs, etc. Each reading and thought provoking question are good. Just don't expect very many suggestions for implementation.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

John Maxwell's philosophy is that everyone can change their life - moving from mere existence to goal achievement. This pocket-sized book is a 90 day workbook, going through the small, incremental changes a person has to make every day toward making those goals attainable.
Lots of life lessons and quotes from other leaders and teachers, lots of methods to assess the current situation and make improvements.
I totally recommend this book. I read all the way through it in one sitting because I find Maxwell so inspiring but I am also starting the 90 day plan, starting today!

I won this book from a goodreads giveaway, and I won't post my rating until after I finish all 90 days. After completing the first month, I will say that I enjoy having a new page and inspiring quote to do every day.

Decent workbook. Something inspiring thoughts. My favorite is, "Addition is thinking about what you can do for others while multiplication is what you can do WITH others."
