I really liked reading about Navajo Nation and it made me want to know more about their interesting culture and beliefs.

I enjoyed this more than the first half. I feel like I might have enjoyed the whole story more overall if the two books were combined and tightened up in places, to be just one book. Sometimes the tension wasn't paced well enough - some things happened too fast, others too slow, so I found myself coming out of the story at times instead of just being absorbed and drawn through it.

The relationship between Josh and Hannah was beautiful and I loved the idea of them finding each other again throughout time.

Not done perfectly but it was a nice story and made me feel good after reading it.

My ranking rules:
5-star (*****) EXCEPTIONAL: Faultless; awe-inspiring; humbling; a good ambassador for the genre, deserving broad readership; potentially a classic of the genre.
4-star (****) EXCELLENT: Highly recommended; difficult to fault; completely satisfying.
3-star (***) GOOD: A really good read and thoroughly enjoyable; time well spent; minor and few misgivings.
2-star (**) OK: Unlikely to inspire or to offend; ultimately doesn't measure up to the broader body of work in the genre, and therefore may disappoint.
1-star (*) POOR: Life-shortening, ineffective, rife with error and a waste of ink (whether on physical- or e-paper).

I liked references to the challenges facing the Navajo Nation, "poverty, uranium pollution, unemployment, drug abuse". It's nice to have a taste of context and always important to speak truth to social injustice. I also really appreciated the author's note at the end "If you are Navajo and you spot any painful mistakes or inconsistencies, let me know." This is a great gesture towards cultural competency.

Favorite Quotes:

'Then tell her. It's time to eat some crow, man. You shouldn't decide about her life. Hannah is perfectly capable of doing that herself'

This was a good finish to Book 1. My only complaints (if they can even be called that) are with the editing errors and the dialogue during the historical scenes. The language used was too contemporary which made those particular scenes feel off.

Other than that, I enjoyed the way the story played out.

Book one had all the juicy stuff!

This was a disappointment. It was pretty much the last quarter or the third act of a novel. But where was all the steam? I guess after the main characters got back together, it just wasn’t there anymore. And all the flashbacks could have been nixed. They didn’t add anything to the story plotwise. I still loved all the Navajo stuff and the rituals they did. That stuff was cool. The climax was also kind of bland.

Readers could just do book one and read the free sample of book two and be satisfied.

Brilliant.!

I read book one and of course had the link to download this book - which took me all of two seconds to decide to buy... which was earlier today... what can I say - I really enjoyed both books.

Satisfying conclusion

The story ended well. The mythology was fascinating and the characters and plot were great. The only things I didn't care for was the LGBTQ theme and the sex before marriage (although you don't see it you know it's there).

Me encanto!

Only half a book so the stars awarded reflect this. You need to have read book 1 of the same title for this to make any sense. If the 2 halves of book were combined to make one title I would have awarded more stars.

The characters are engaging, the Navajo culture interesting but not shown in great depth, the historical research didn't add all I would have hoped to the story, but again was interesting.

I hope one day that the author can go and visit a reservation and experience some of the places she describes. I think it would be very rewarding for both her and the readers of subsequent books.

Mixed feelings

I enjoyed the first book so much and really wanted to know what would happen with Hannah and Josh. However after reading this book I feel like the book was split just to create a second book out of something that really was one book. And the ending of the curse doesn't sit well with me. Seems like the author couldn't figure out how to end the curse so ended this way after giving up on finding a good way to end it. Overall though I enjoyed the book.

A book about love, mystery and time travel. Who could ask for more!! It had a happy ending too!!

It kept my interest all through the different times. I wish this were true and we come back and fix things from our past.

Good story

Okay, so this was a very good story, but I just can't get over that fact that I felt tricked into buying it because of the way the first book ended. It ruined a wonderful story for me. They should be sold as a set.

Enjoyed the story but again- it should have been one book. I really did not like how it was divided. Love the idea and concept.
