Despite what anyone says, Jordan Kane is not lonely. He’s not. Being alone is not the same as being lonely. At least, that’s what he tells himself. But it’s hard to hold onto his more hermit-like habits when Avery O’Sullivan blows back into town. The sweet--if hapless--writer is hardly prepared for Belleville’s harsh winters, and Jordan can’t help inviting the other man into his home for the holidays.

Two strangers find happiness between a dozen cups of coffee and writer’s block in this sweet M/M short romance. A Palouse County Romance #1 featuring stories big and small from Eastern Washington.

This is a novelette approximately 50 pages long. It contains minor language, some adult themes and a romantic relationship between two men.

For some reason, I have a soft spot for romances against the backdrop of a cafe, bakery, or coffeehouse because who doesn’t like a nice toasty drink with something tasty sweet while falling in love?

Though I was expecting a little more wintery peril, this was still an enjoyable sedate Christmasy short.

Not much happens but this romance oh so nicely warmed me up!

Only 54 pages, but I couldn't force myself to finish it. Riddled with typos, as you'd expect from Lia Cooper. ("The write" instead of "the writer." "Its" when it should be "it's." And so much more.) The obligatory pushy female friend obsessed -- absolutely obsessed -- with the MC's sex life, hounding and harassing him about the subject at all hours of the day and night. Oh, and a kitten that can live indoors and never need a litterbox. And did I mention boring? Life is too short for this...

Jordan runs the local coffee shop in a small town. He has been alone since his partner left him seven years ago in the middle of renovation for the coffee shop. Avery was the son of the local sheriff and has not been back to the town since his mother divorced his father when he was young. After his father died, Avery was left everything, including a rundown house.

The two men get to know each other over Avery’s daily early morning trips to the coffee shop for his morning addiction. As each man slowly gets to know the other, their attraction grows. There is little angst or drama as the two fumble their way to a relationship.

Very nice read if looking for something on the sweet side of things.

This is a short novella. Anyone who know's me, knows that I don't like short stories. But because this is from Lia I read it anyway. Her way of writing stories I like a lot and this one does not disappoint either.

I am sure there are more stories to tell about Palouse County :)

A Good Read

I enjoyed reading about Jordan and Avery. It was a sweet romance. I liked Elle the head barista. She had such a way of irritating her boss, Jordan while matchmaking the whole time. This was a good read.

Avery O’Sullivans father passed away, and he hadn’t seen him since he was a kid. So he went and moved into his fathers house to decide what to do, plus as an author he had to finish his book. The house was in disrepair, so when his pipes froze he walked to the local coffee shop to warm up. Jordan Kane the owner offered him his spare bedroom until the issue could be fixed. Because of a snow storm they were stuck there for a few days. There was an intense attraction between the two and one thing lead to the other.

This is good short story. I really enjoyed reading it. Jordan and Avery make a great couple. Jordan is happy with his coffee shop and Avery moves back to town to work on a book. Jordan helps Avery out and the romance starts.

I liked the story because it was realistic, easy to read and there was no drama. The characters were likeable. It's a kind of feel-good book, it's short so it's a book I will probably read again when I need to relax and take my mind off things.

Super sweet, super cute, super short... this is a lovely little story to curl up with. It's not a ~steamy~ romance, as there are no on-screen sex scenes, but it's lovely. I found the author's comfort with the terminology and processes of a coffee shop to be soothing and made the story more tactile, and the characters were unique enough to be believable.

I got all the feels when they finally got together. :) Definitely work a read.

The story didn't seem finished, however. Several subplots were not resolved (did Avery ever finish his book? Is Avery going to stay in town or not?), but hopefully there will be more.
