"Enjoy a FREE PREVIEW of Pam Muñoz Ryan's exquisitely crafted, genre-defying masterpiece in this SNEAK PEEK EDITION!Lost and alone a forbidden forest, Otto meets three mysterious sisters and suddenly finds himself entwined in a puzzling quest involving a prophecy, a promise, and a harmonica. Decades later, Friedrich in Germany, Mike in Pennsylvania, and Ivy in California each, in turn, become interwoven when the very same harmonica lands in their lives. All the children face daunting rescuing a father, protecting a brother, holding a family together. And ultimately, pulled by the invisible thread of destiny, their suspenseful solo stories converge in an orchestral crescendo. Richly imagined and masterfully crafted, ECHO pushes the boundaries of genre and form, and shows us what is possible in how we tell stories. The result is an impassioned, uplifting, and virtuosic tour de force that will resound in your heart long after the last note has been struck."

2016 Newbery Honor Book. I really liked it. Got involved in each of the character's stories and wanted them to continue. Luckily they did as they converged at the end in New York City (19551). Being the romantic that I am, now that they were all together in the same place, I wanted them to also find out that the harmonica had played a very important part in each of their lives and share their stories with each other. Also shows how each character dealt with prejudices in each of their situations. I was about 1/2 way through and was only going to read for an hour, but ended up reading all afternoon and finishing it.

"Otto finds 3 mysterious sisters in the forest and finds himself entwined in a prophecy, a promise, and a harmonica -- and decades later 3 children, Friedrich in Germany (1933), Mike in Pennsylvania (1935), and Ivy in California (1942) find themselves struggling to keep their families intact, and tied together by the music of the same harmonica."
