“Come Close to Jesus” is a beautifully written compilation of prayers. This book is for those seeking Jesus’ presence and encouragement. Often times we have worries and struggles and it’s difficult to articulate these during prayer. In this book, we see Lysa’s heart and longing to deepen her prayer life. She shares many scripture references and commentary that served as an encouragement to me as I read this book.

What type of books do you like to gift to friends and family?
Come Close to Jesus by Lysa TerKeurst has the subtitle “What to pray when you need the Lord to still your thoughts, calm your heart, and guide your way.” This is a perfect description of this Christian devotional.
My thoughts on this devotional:
• This book is beautiful with thick pages and a ribbon bookmark. It would make a great gift.
• There are fifty short chapters, one chapter per prayer. It is perfect to read one per night.
• Each of the chapters in the first half of the book begins with a Bible verse, the authors thoughts on the verse or topic, a prayer, and the prayer in action (how can you make a change with prayer.)
• The book also includes scriptural payers such as “a prayer for when you feel lonely,” “a prayer for your husband,” etc. There is a discussion on the topic, followed by Bible verses to pray.
• There was very thoughtful discussion on prayer, life, and how the teachings of the Bible fit into it all.
• I found reading this devotional to be a peaceful way to end my day.
• This is a book that I am going to keep on my nightstand for thoughtful contemplation and prayer in the evening.
• I enjoyed the authors personal journey in her prayer life.
Overall, Come Close to Jesus by Lysa TerKeurst is a very heartfelt, calming, nice devotional with a collection of beautiful prayers.

📚 I was so thankful to receive an eARC of this from NetGalley because I adore Lysa TerKeurst. She has quickly become one of my favorite Christian authors - I love the way her devotionals are relatable and personal, no matter what season I am in. I enjoy how each day is fairly short, only 3-4 pages of reading coupled with scripture and prayer. She has really perfected the layout of each devotional, making it a time of day I look forward to. This particular book is going to be gorgeous with pretty pages and graphics, not to mention sweet words within to encourage the reader. This book is perfect for praying about still thoughts, calm hearts, and the Lord guiding your way.

247 pages of wonderful! This book is an invitation to draw near to Jesus daily. It's page after page of beautiful and thoughtful prewritten, guided prayers to calm your heart and mind to focus on Him. It includes steps to help you pray and to build this into your daily life helping you find joy, peace, and a sense of who you are in Christ. In times of trial sometimes we just don't know what to pray. This amazing book will become your daily source of strength, peace, and direction. A must have devotional!

Received an ARC from NetGalley. This is an easy devotional book to look forward to coming back to day after day. Each devotional is short but intentional, and paired with a simple reflection and prayer that somehow feels personally tailored, not generic or scripted. Helpful to guide you when struggling to put your thoughts and feelings into words in prayer. Just the right length to be manageable if you're busy or tired, without giving up meaningful time with Jesus to nourish your spirit. I would definitely recommend for anyone in need of a little encouragement for consistency in prayer.

I've read most of Lysa's books, and this is another good one. It's basically a distillation of the themes in her other books into convenient, short readings. I liked the prayers of action, which was a single, powerful takeaway from each reading. I also liked the praying through the scriptures section, which is a helpful and practical teaching. The design of this book is pretty and giftable. Overall, I thought this was a good book, though it doesn't have much fresh content.
