We Say Shalom is a 40-day journey combining language, poetry, and reflections that empowers readers to create connections with anyone around them, regardless of their differences. In an age of global disunity, We Say Shalom invites the reader to embrace the slow journey toward unity through adopting new ideas and reshaping your perspective about God's creation.
Acclaimed artist and educator Nigel Darius is widely recognized as a translator of the human experience. With years of conversational practice under his belt, Nigel values living with a mindset of curiosity in order to forge cross-cultural relationships.
In an era where empathy needs both instruction and encouragement, We Say Shalom will act as a guide into the often-uncomfortable call to connect with those who are unlike us. Nigel invites readers on a forty-day journey of language, art, poetry, and reflections highlighting the fact that our innate differences are not threats but rather divine gifts. Through beautiful, bite-sized insights from various languages and cultures, each reading features a word, an icon, and a short reflection paired with an introspective invitation.
Informed by many of Nigel's most profound conversations with individuals from diverse faith and cultural backgrounds, this book will:
• Illustrate how inquisitiveness, critical thinking, and connectivity are essential for experiencing the fullness of peace and unity • Teach us how to understand and effectively communicate with others amidst differences • Equip us to engage in cultural, spiritual, and emotional conversations • Empower us to bridge seemingly impassable cultural and religious differences • Promote a deeper connection with God by understanding the beauty and complexity of His creation.
Through new words that encapsulate experiences and emotions you might not have had language for, you'll learn how to engage with God and His image bearers around you by discovering commonalities and shared stories.
This book is exceptional across all criteria. From the concept of expanding one’s reach across the world through words to Darius’s word choice. Everyone should read this book. The expanded definition of these layered words are enough to adjust mindsets and intentions. Darius takes these definitions further with insight, stories, and application. Not only is his perspective overwhelmingly refreshing but the way he weaves words is beyond art. He calls out and upon our modern world and disconnected minds and turns them back to the light. Philotimo is my favorite.
I don’t know what I was expecting with this book, but Nigel Darius FAR exceeded my imaginations!
We Say Shalom is an exploration of 40 words from various world languages that capture an essence of wholeness we have no direct translation for into English.
Through poetry, stories and reflections, Darius invites the reader to explore abiding in Shalom (wholeness & soul-peace) while still deeply human & flawed. I ATE IT UP.
