This book on integrating prayer into all parts of our daily lives is gorgeous inside and out. Its cover has a woman with flowers swirling behind her, suggesting the beautiful ways prayer can flow out of us. Jennifer Tucker begins her book by talking about prayer, stress, our bodies, and how we can learn to combine prayer with movement. The remaining two-thirds of the book covers what Jennifer calls the tool kit. This includes everything from written prayers and suggestions on how to use them; body movements and prayers together; and ideas for involving all areas of our lives with prayer to God, our Father in heaven. (See Matthew 6.)
These include so many creative ideas. Such as integrating prayer with: gardening; doing the dishes; walking; nature engagement; art and creating pursuits; labyrinth walking; liturgies and monastic practices; and more. Perhaps each and every one of these won't be right for you. But I found so many that I'm eager to try out; and other truly meaningful ones that I've already done.
I'm hopeful that long practice of these prayer and movement combinations will draw me closer to God and help me to be more aware of my own body, thoughts, and stress. And that even healing can occur at the same time.
I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions shared here are my own honest ones.
A beautiful, refreshing invitation to pray with your whole self!
Jennifer Tucker has created something truly special with Prayer in Motion. This book invites you to experience prayer not just as words spoken in stillness, but as a living rhythm that flows through your body and daily movements. I loved how it connects Scripture with practical, embodied practices—helping you become more fully present with God in every moment.
The content is rich with thoughtful reflections on the biblical link between body and spirit, helpful guides for building simple prayer rhythms, and gentle encouragement for anyone feeling disconnected or stressed. What makes it even more wonderful is the beautiful artwork throughout the book—Jennifer’s artistic touch turns every page into a visual delight that enhances the peaceful, worshipful feel of the message.
