First time reader of this author. This is an emotional as well as deep book about grief, healing and finding hope again. It is a reflection of a 29yr wife, mother and faithful person who faces the most difficult time in her life. She loses the love of her life, father of her children to a horrible accident. It goes into the the story about her deep grief, her ability to have to find a way to go forward as well as how she finds the strength to continue. Additionally it goes into the section of finding and letting her faith heal her as well as embrace her to carry her forward. In the final chapters it discussions the hope to move forward and find happiness and possibly love again. It is a book of strength as well as faith and healing. I would recommend to people trying to find a way out of grief as well as leaning on your faith and God. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review! I listened to this book on audio and it was so incredibly moving and personal. Just a chapter in and I started writing down verses Courtney was saying to revisit later. The way she applied the bible to the story to help you understand was just so good. You could also hear the emotions in Courtney’s voice. It was a real emotional read. Her testimony of finding the strength to keep going and keep holding onto the faith during the tragic loss of her husband, the way that grief shaped her faith and then healed her is just so powerful. I think her story, the message to get up and keep going, can be applied to many other hardships. I truly loved this book and I think it’s a great book to read or recommend to some going through grief or hard seasons.
This book was gut wrenching. Anyone that has the pleasure of marrying their best friend will feel the depth of Courtney’s story. To age with your significant other is such a privilege that not everyone gets to experience. “And She Got Up” was a perfect title for this book. I don’t know how you move on from something like this. You will always have a scar from a loss like this, but Courtney described the experience in a beautiful way. Her faith was inspiring as she demonstrated grace through a pain to this magnitude and how to move on from this. 1 Timothy 6:7 was a well placed verse through her grieving.
I did the audiobook version of this book and was so glad because it’s narrated by the author. As someone who lost someone so important to me and struggled with just going from one day to the next, this book hit home for me in more than one way. Loved the vulnerability and her faith that God had more in store for her.
