Sometimes you read middle grade books that work for all ages, others are specifically for children... and this one was not for me... I think if you just want to know the poem, this is a good way to learn it!! But it wasn't enough for me... I know this is not the place to talk about opinions and theories, but the way things were written as facts, it bothered me, to present Homer as a blind poet, when you don't know if the man really existed... to not speak of the studies of the placing of Troy - again I know this is not the place for it, but it bothered me... I do appreciate the book didn't shy away from the death and war (even making a parallel with the wars still going nowadays), and even speaking of the rape and kidnapping of women... and then on the other hand they're speaking of Briseis as a "lover" of Achilles, and Patrocles as his friend (which again I get, but I wanted something about other theories about them being lovers)... On another note, the book also seemed to very strongly side with the Trojans... and I don't know but it feels weird to take a side here... and it read very much like that!!! Overall, I think this is good for kids, but if you've studied classics, this may frustrate you!!! You may want more than just be told a tale...
