He didn’t ask to be chosen. But now the world is watching—and it'll burn if he fails.

Finn never wanted to be a hero. But when a sentient voice fused with his mind and unlocked a power unlike anything seen in centuries, he became something more—an anomaly the kingdom can’t ignore.

Now, as political tensions rise and old enemies evolve into monsters of molten rage, Finn must train with elite guilds, survive deadly court intrigue, and outsmart those who seek to control him. All while a forbidden bond with a royal threatens everything he’s built.

But the deeper he goes, the louder the world becomes—and perception itself might tear him apart.
Because something ancient is waking. And it’s watching him.

Perfect for fans of found family, sentient tech-magic, and coming-of-age heroes facing impossible odds.

Audiobook: I enjoyed this book as much as the first one in the series. I was amazed at the creativeness of the new creatures which appeared as the worldbuilding continued to expand. I felt for Finn as people and outside forces continued to make his journey difficult. I appreciated that Finn had to study and work at his powers rather than just have full control without the struggles. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I thought Ryan Duncan's narration was good as his performance kept my attention. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Ryan Duncan's ability to narrate a great story AND perform the many characters with such ease are what makes this a worthwhile listen! Just as he did with the first volume in the series, he continues with his brilliant performance in volume 2. Listen to this series. You won't regret it!

I don’t know how I’m going to wait for the next book in the series, but quality ultimately can’t be rushed.

Continues to be a good storyline, with cliffhangers and more likable characters and world-building. I kept wanting to know how it would be resolved, which is the sign of good storytelling. I dock it for a few things—some Earth references which feel odd, some scenes where didn't have good descriptions so I wasn't clear on what was happening, and some characters who I could be reminded of their visual and personality from the first book. Also, could have used one more round of professional editing for micro-copy. But overall, a great read, and looking forward to the next book in the series.
