Five haunting Australian cold cases. One determined detective. The truth is never buried for long.
Detective Inspector Veronika Pope doesn’t deal in accidents. Her unit exists to uncover the truth when others stop looking. Based in Perth’s Cold Crime Division, she and her small, tenacious team investigate long-forgotten disappearances, unclaimed remains, and unsolved murders across Western Australia’s most unforgiving terrain.
But behind every closed file is a question that still burns. Who killed them — and why?
LOCATION From the scorched inland mining camps of the Mid West to the storm-lashed southern coast, from urban Perth to the salt-stained streets of Iron Creek — each investigation draws Pope into a new corner of the vast, brutal beauty of Western Australia. These are crimes rooted in the landscape, where remoteness offers concealment… and nobody escapes notice forever. MEET THE DETECTIVES DI Veronika Pope – Calm under pressure, sharp-eyed, and impossible to intimidate, Pope leads her team with focus and fierce compassion. But she’s still carrying trauma from a case that almost killed her — and she knows darkness doesn’t just live in the field.
DS Jim Drommel – Practical, experienced, and dryly observant, Drommel is Pope’s closest ally and steady second. Loyal to a fault and quietly fearless.
DC Stacey Newport – Young, determined, and sharp-tongued, Stacey is as quick with facts as she is with a comeback. She’s ambitious — and learning fast.
DC Brian Costa – Methodical, perceptive, and new to the unit, Brian brings an outsider’s clarity — and a quiet drive to prove himself.
DC Haru Eccles – Compassionate and quietly brilliant, Haru has a gift for reading people others overlook. Pope sees something of herself in him — and knows how fragile that can be.

I was happily surprised at the good storyline lines in this series. The characters are well rounded and clear to see with your mind. The descriptions of the vastly different areas in Australia gave a good picture for you to focus on. The outback with the red earth coating everything it touched and the sea area with it beautiful oceans on different shores. Would happily read more by this author.
This was a box set, takes place in Australia. Has to do with cold cases. Very interesting how they piece everything together. I would recommend this series. Saw it on the Joffe Books website.
Most of the earlier books I have read in this category had too much horror for me. At last I am finding authors who tell of a murder and then tell how it was solved.
