Buoyant rhymes and joyful art evoke the excitement of the season.
Pumpkins big and pumpkins small. There are so many—I want them all!
Step 1 Readers feature big type and easy words for children who know the alphabet and are eager to begin reading. Rhyme and rhythmic text paired with picture clues help children decode the story.
A family visits a pumpkin patch, then carves the pumpkins for Halloween. The rhyming text is simple and the font is large, making it perfect for newer readers while not dumbing it down at all. The illustrations are absolutely adorable, full of life and humor and fun. In areas where visits to pumpkin patches are common, this would be a wonderful addition to a classroom, school library, or public library. It would also work well for an autumn-themed unit.
Early Reader Pumpkin Day an awesome first step reader due to the three to four words per page. The introductory to autumn spreads an array of beautiful shades of orange, yellow, brown and green. The hardcover represents everyone in the family travelling to the farm together. This trip is about the traditional pumpkin picking to create a jack lantern on Halloween. Carving pumpkins is lots of fun too. The scenery is splashed with baby animals playfully in the background. There are other fall characteristics such as scarecrows and fields of corn to highlighted the theme. Although Halloween is not my favorite topic.
I would recommend this book because it allows independent early reading. I like the usage of rhymes that are mildly throughout the book. It helps with repetition and builds on memory skills. I found this book interesting because the mother and daughter had the same hair and complex as me. It very important to see ourselves in books.
Pumpkin Day is a simple story about visiting a pumpkin patch. Even if the reader has never been to a pumpkin patch illustrations light up where you might find a patch and what other things may happen while you're there.
If you're trying to squeeze this in during a ball unit of study not only do balls and pumpkins have some things in common in this story one of the pumpkins goes rolling.
The text has a few words that Kindergartners will find challenging -“squirrels” “ponies”, “found”, etc, but most words are decodable so this could be used for lateK, or 1st grade. Story is about going to pick out pumpkins with the family at a pumpkin farm and then carving them. Diverse characters and bright pictures make this book appealing.
This is a cute story written in a fun, rhyming scheme. The illustrations are great, and you just keep wanting to turn the page. Great to add to October lesson plans. It’s an easy reader for K-1 grades.
Cute early reader fall book for children with cute autumn-themed illustrations and a simple story with vocabulary that can be accessible to a very beginning reader. Would reccomend for children ages under 5 who love fall and pumpkin picking!
A good beginning reader- cute illustrations and good learning words. It does end with jack o'lanterns, in case someone didn't want that in their pumpkin book.
This book is great for early readers with easy to read and understand rhyming text. It’s all about visiting a pumpkin patch. The fall themed illustrations are pretty and fit the story perfectly.

My Review: A perfect little fall/October beginning reader book. Munchkin just got to go pumpkin picking for the first time and this was a great book to spark further discussion. It is a great level one book with simple sentences, words, a nice storyline and easy rhymes. We really enjoyed this book and it was perfect to read several times throughout the month leading up to Halloween.
