"Korean unification is one of the most important issues on the international agenda today. Hart-Landsberg's broad-ranging inquiry develops a perspective that is rarely heard, and that merits careful attention. It is a valuable contribution to a debate that should not be delayed."

first half of this book is invaluable and brilliant as an intro understanding of japanese colonialism, US involvement, and the korean war itself. past that though, the author does not explain juche accurately and the latter half suffers from this lack of clarity. his points on germany's reabsorption being so disastrous and being the push the US and SK are attempting on the north are really well done though! overall a good book worth reading with reservations and a few flaws.

A succinct and mostly valuable study of the role of imperialism in division and Korean development. Author’s understanding of juche is quite weak and this seriously clouds his approach to the DPRK in some sections

Informative and unbiased, though it does tend to gloss over interesting historical events in favor of economic analysis.
