The Bedroom Ban: Finding Myself... One Awkward Date at a Time

Rate this book
One accidental night. One unexpected baby. Absolutely no plan. What could possibly go wrong?

Geoff
After two decades of glamorous chaos, I’ve retired from photographing beautiful people in beautiful places and taken a job teaching teenagers who think I’m prehistoric. I’m also dealing with some inconvenient medical realities that have forced me to reassess… well, everything. Then one very memorable night turns into something far more permanent. Now Christa is pregnant. With my baby. We’re living together because it makes sense. We are not a couple. We are being mature adults about this. Apart from the part where I can’t stop noticing how she takes her crumpets.

Christa
My fiancé ended our engagement at forty-three because he “wasn’t ready.” So naturally I slept with Geoff. One time. That was it. Now I’m pregnant, temporarily sharing a flat with a man who is far more thoughtful than he has any right to be, and trying to convince everyone – including myself – that this is strictly practical. He’s sorting out his health. I’m sorting out my life. We’re just friends. Friends who co-parent before the baby’s even born. Friends who absolutely do not stare at each other across the breakfast table.

The Bedroom Ban is a laugh-out-loud midlife romcom about forced proximity, found family, unexpected parenthood, men’s health, emotional growth, and two stubborn adults who swear they’re only in this together for sensible reasons. There will be chaos. There will be crumpets. There will be feelings no one agreed to.

Heads this book comes with a naughty twist of adult content. Set in England and penned in British English. It is a standalone in an interconnecting world.

Dani Elias

46 books247 followers
Dani Elias writes swoony, steamy British romance about women in their forties who are very good at some parts of life and quietly unravelling in others. Her FMCs are relatable, flawed, funny, and fully human. Some are plus size, some are not, but all of them are centred, desired, and allowed to take up space in their own love stories.

Set mostly in small towns, with the occasional city romcom, Dani’s books are written in British English and focus on emotional connection, lived-in chemistry, and intimacy that deepens the relationship rather than dominating it. Her heroes are usually golden retriever cinnamon rolls with a side of nerdy dorkiness, because frankly, that’s the dream.

Based in Carlisle (UK), Dani writes romances for readers who want grown up love, real bodies, real feelings, and proof that happily ever after does not come with an age limit.

This was a really fun laugh out loud kind of story. Later in life, accidental pregnancy, navigating life as friends and co parents. I loved the banter and the fun moments. This definitely had me turning the pages. These two were an absolute blast.

Genuinely love her writing. The banter and wit is always so much fun. And huge kudos for tackling a very tricky topic that I NEVER thought I’d see in a romance. I really enjoyed the characters and surprise pregnancy story, I just wish there was a bit more romance.

The Bedroom Ban is the second book in Elias' Mind the Corbin Brothers series. This open door, friends-with-benefits, contemporary romance features Christa and Geoff.

Geoff is 45 years old and retired. He was a professional photographer but got tired of the business aspect of it. Having made excellent financial decisions, he decided to step away. He finds himself somewhat floundering without a routine and without knowing what comes next. He also, most unfortunately, is experiencing some "technical difficulties" with his "equipment" when it comes to performing. Once determining it isn't

Christa is 43 years old and works as a receptionist for Dubois & Woods but she's quite over it. She is frequently asked to take on other tasks which should not be her responsibility. It isn't even like she is well compensated or appreciated.

A few months prior, after imbibing quite a bit during a party, Geoff and Christa hooked up. The next day they agreed that it shouldn't have happened and they were going to pretend as such, and move on with their lives. That was a great plan until Christa discovers she's pregnant, and given her age, wants to keep the baby.

What ensues is a humorous and entertaining story where Christa shares the news with Geoff that he is going to be a father, co-habitation while not being a couple, Geoff meeting with PeePee (#iykyk) to solve his current issue, Christa assessing her employment options, and so much more!

I have yet to read one of Elias' books that I did not adore. She never fails to put multiple smiles on my face (along with some LOL chuckles) and leave me with warm and fuzzy feelings. I love her relatable characters as well as her writing style. Christa and Geoff have an engaging dynamic and I thoroughly enjoyed their dialogue. I also appreciated that they were both in their 40s as most romances tend to be younger characters. This brought a certain maturity to their situationship.

I highly recommend checking out Elias' books. They are easy to read and will do wonders for your mood.

Leaving it without star rating for now cause I can’t decide
-> update on star rating upon release day: I decided I will go with 4 stars. While this romance book lacked in romantic romance department, I still had a lot of fun with it and as always I highly enjoyed Dani’s writing style and humour. While it’s not my fav out of Dani’s books, I still recommend it, however please go through couple reviews to manage your expectations accordingly ;).

Review written just when I finished reading:
There was very little romance in this romance book. They felt barely friends to me, more like acquaintances that had one night stand that resulted in accidental pregnancy and they easily decided to co-parent and be “friends with baby”. Then the benefits appeared as well but the romance hit extremely far into the story.
It’s definitely a good representation of the “just happened” kind of love, without the big feelings stage, just the easy, very domestic one but yeah, it felt like friends to roommates to long-term-marriage-kind-of-love.

The writing is good and pleasant, seems to always be the case with Dani’s books for me, at least ever since I started ARC reading (summer 2025) them. It was funny with a lot of good lines.
There are a lot of therapy stuff due to Geoff’s problem and actual therapy chapters but not only (I mean the “therapy-ish” lines are placed through the whole book).

Overall it was fun and quick read but out of the three Corbin brother’s books, this is my least favorite one.
Bonus points for characters in their 40s (not a lot of romance books like that out there!) and “downstairs not working” representation.

If you’re looking for romance centered on romance and feelings - that’s not it. But if you want quick read that gives representation to wash and very domestic kind of love - this is the one.

4.5 rounded up to 5

The Corbin brothers are exceptional men and they find such extraordinary women to be with and Geoff and Christa are no exception to that. This book has the pregnancy trope that I am usually wholeheartedly against because to me it doesn’t bring anything to the book but I actually really liked the way Dani Elias did that. The pregnancy wasn’t the main focus it was just a fact of the matter. I really enjoy her books there is a lot of banter and wit but also a lot of joy and love and the characters are all really loveable.

I also love that the characters aren’t in their 20’s these are adults who still have stuff to figure out and have challenges and it just makes it feel so much more real

The only thing is that I’ve noticed in her last two books that I’ve read, maybe it’s new or something I’ve only just noticed but the phrase “despite myself” is used A LOT like so much so that if you played a drinking game and took a shot every time it was said you would be absolutely sloshed halfway through the book

I loved the banter between Geoff & Christa. I haven't laughed so much reading two main characters banter so much in awhile.

After a night of drinking at a birthday party Geoff & Christa end up hooking up. They wake up and agree to never talk about it again.

Next thing you know Geoff is struggling with ODD & Christa has a Pea-Lime.

So their life is going to change but they're going to co-parent maturely. Geoff in therapy, puts a ban on the bedroom, Christas moves in to save money & let Geoff be around for her & offers to be his dating coach.

Their relationship flourishes in the most organic easy going way. He's so attentive to her even when it wasn't going to even "twitch" for him. Through therapy he learns what real intimacy means & that perhaps removing the bedroom, pausing dating, and saying perhaps this can be more than parenting could be a good thing.

I could read so much more of their story, and I hope we see glimpses of them in the future.

"May contain emotional landmines. Unreliable performance. Unexpected life entanglements."

"Shame", I say. "I was really looking forward to scheduling intimacy like a dentist appointment."

This is another entry into Dani Elias’ Corbin Brothers series.

I really enjoy her books and this one di not disappoint. Real life situations with some humor. I definitely laughed out loud at some things. It was fun to watch Christa and Geoff going from one night together to coparenting together while also dealing with individual issues.

You of course get to see his brothers and his niece and it is always great to see those relationships.

There were a few britishisms in here that I had to look up but I just marked them and looked them up later, it didn’t take me out of the story.

I highly suggest not starting this book in public, I was laughing so hard that people were staring. I adore everything Dani writes, so I should have expected it! This is definitely not your typical romance, with a meet cute and drama coming later. It starts with drama, and I was here for it. This is book two in a series, and while you don’t need to read book one, you really should! It was also so so good and there are cameos in book two, since it’s about the brothers. I could not put this down! Read it immediately!

perfectly awkward

I enjoyed the Dating ban and the gnome army. This one felt more like a gradual growth story versus a romance. I enjoyed how Geoff grew and was able to get his life to where he wanted it. Christa definitely felt like such an easy going character. Overall it felt like they just fell together versus romance.

Oh. I love Geoff and Christa. When you see a couple that is so intuned with each other. When you want them both to be happy no matter what. Elias brings forth another smash of a read. The comfortability. The understanding. The depth. The freakout moment. A HEA that was well deserved. Great read.

am OBSESSED. Completely, irrationally, joyfully obsessed with Bedroom Ban. This book grabbed me by the hand, sat me down with a cup of tea and a slightly scandalous grin, and then proceeded to wreck me in the most delightful way.

Five stars?? Please. Give it the whole bakery.

First of all, midlife romance?? DONE LIKE THIS?? I didn’t just love it, I inhaled it. Geoff and Christa feel so real it’s almost intrusive, like you’re eavesdropping on two people accidentally falling in love while insisting they absolutely are not.

Geoff… sir. Retired, slightly grumpy, quietly thoughtful, dealing with real-life health stuff and still managing to be ridiculously attractive without even trying?? The way he notices things. The way he cares in these small, steady, unshowy ways. I was gone. Finished. A puddle on the floor.

And Christa?? I adored her. There’s something so raw about starting over in your forties after being blindsided like that. She’s strong but tired, practical but vulnerable, and trying so hard to keep everything “sensible” while her entire life is doing cartwheels. Watching her navigate pregnancy, heartbreak, and this unexpected connection with Geoff felt so honest and messy and human.

And the premise?? ICONIC.

One night.
Surprise baby.
Forced proximity.
“We are NOT a couple.”

Meanwhile they’re sharing a flat, co-parenting before the baby is even born, and absolutely not staring at each other across the breakfast table like their lives depend on it. Sure. Totally platonic. Completely under control. Nothing to see here.

The slow burn in this?? Exquisite. It’s not dramatic fireworks, it’s something warmer and more dangerous… like embers quietly catching. Every shared moment, every bit of domestic routine, every crumpet-related interaction (yes, I said it) just builds and builds until you’re sitting there like, “oh no… they’re in deep.”

And the humour?? So good. Proper laugh-out-loud, snort-into-your-tea kind of funny, but never at the expense of the emotional depth. It balances the heavier themes so beautifully. Because this book goes there too. Health, aging, second chances, fear of starting over… it doesn’t shy away, but it also never loses that warmth.

And when the feelings finally stop being “inconvenient” and start being undeniable?? I was grinning like an idiot. It felt earned. Every soft moment, every bit of tension, every stubborn denial led to something that just… fit.

This book is:
• chaotic in the most charming way
• deeply emotional without being heavy all the time
• laugh-out-loud funny with a big, squishy heart
• and full of two adults who absolutely should know better… and yet

I devoured it, highlighted half of it (mentally), and now I’m just sitting here wanting more stories like this.

Dani Elias’s The Bedroom Ban: Finding Myself… One Awkward Date at a Time threw me straight into emotional chaos, domestic tension, and the kind of slow-burn connection that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. Published by Blue Nose Publishing, thank you so much to Dani Elias and Happily Booked PT for the gifted ARC—I was not prepared to feel this much over crumpets and co-parenting.

This is one of those books that doesn’t announce itself loudly as a romance, and honestly? That’s exactly why it works. It unfolds in this quiet, almost unassuming way where two people—Geoff and Christa—are just trying to handle life like functioning adults… and failing in the most human, relatable ways possible. One accidental night turns into an unexpected pregnancy, and suddenly they’re sharing space, responsibilities, and way too many emotionally charged glances for people who insist they are absolutely not a couple.

Geoff is coming off a life pivot that already has him questioning everything—his career, his health, his identity—and then life throws him straight into fatherhood before he’s even figured himself out. Christa, on the other hand, is picking up the pieces after a fiancé who bailed at forty-three (sir, respectfully, jail), and trying to convince herself she’s got everything under control. Together, they create this dynamic that feels less like instant romance and more like something that grows in the quiet spaces—shared routines, small kindnesses, and those tiny, almost unnoticeable moments that start to mean everything.

And that’s really the magic here. This isn’t about grand gestures or dramatic declarations. It’s about the kind of love that builds while you’re making breakfast, navigating doctor appointments, and figuring out how to exist in the same space without completely unraveling. It’s messy, it’s awkward, and it’s deeply grounded in reality. At times, it almost feels like you’re just… sitting in the room with them, watching it all unfold in real time.

What surprised me most is how boldly this book leans into topics that don’t always get space in romcoms—men’s health, therapy, vulnerability, midlife reinvention—and does it without ever losing that sharp, dry humor. The balance is so well done. You’ll laugh (actual out loud laughter, not polite chuckles), and then two pages later you’re sitting there like… oh. Oh that hit a little too close to home.

“This says yes, everything is a bit shit, but here is sugar and dairy and joy.”

That line alone tells you everything about the tone of this book. It’s comforting without pretending everything is fine. It acknowledges the mess but still offers warmth. And honestly? That kind of storytelling hits differently.

Geoff and Christa are not perfect. They’re stubborn, emotionally guarded, occasionally frustrating, and completely believable. Their connection doesn’t explode—it settles, it grows, it builds into something that feels steady and earned. And if you’re someone who appreciates romance that looks like real life—where love is found in consistency, support, and choosing each other over and over again—this is going to land for you.

If you’re looking for fast-paced, high-drama romance with instant chemistry and sweeping declarations, this might feel slower than expected. But if you want something cozy, character-driven, and quietly emotional with just enough chaos to keep it interesting? This is absolutely your kind of read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½

So tell me—do you love a romance that simmers slowly into something real, or are you here for the fireworks and grand gestures? #TheBedroomBan #DaniElias #BookReview #ARCReview #RomComReads #MidlifeRomance #SurprisePregnancy #ForcedProximity #FoundFamily #SlowBurnRomance #Bookstagram #RomanceReaders

The Bedroom Ban was such a cute, funny, light-hearted, quick read. I laughed so so so much and in the end, I absolutely fell in love with Christa, Geoff, and the entire Corbin crew!

Christa is the queen of lists. As a receptionist, her job is to make sure that everyone’s life is in order. When she leaves work at the end of the day, her need for structure and perfection follows her. However, Christa’s carefully planned life is thrown off-balance when a night of fun leads to an unexpected pregnancy. To save money, Christa moves in with Geoff, the father of her baby. The situation becomes even more complicated as Geoff faces difficulties with his “manly parts,” leading Christa to step in as his dating coach. What exactly could go wrong here?!

I really liked Christa. She reminded me so much of myself. Trying to get things done and making lists and rarely asking for help, yep, that’s me. Lol! It was good to see Christa finally let her guard down and feel safe enough with Geoff to just let go and ask for what she needed from him.

Geoff was the best. He was an amazing uncle. I loved his scenes with Lucy and laughed sooooo much. When these two were in a room, you were sure to have some fun.

I really liked Geoff’s relationship with Christa. The way he acknowledged her fear of the unknown of being a new parent and the way he reassured her was just the sweetest. Geoff was so supportive, so kind and so very helpful to Christa during her pregnancy. It was just so sweet and I loved it!

Christ and Geoff had such a great friendship. They were so comfortable with each other, had really good communication and just seemed to really enjoy being around each other. I also thought these two had really good physical chemistry. Side note, that “community service” that Geoff did for Christa. My goodness, my guy was putting in some work! That scene was HOT (IYKYK)!

Though I loved their physical chemistry, I thought the ending felt a little rushed. Despite living together and expecting a child together, Christa and Geoff’s relationship is not overtly romantic. At the end of the story, when Christa professed her love for Geoff, that felt a little weird to me; it just did not feel earned.

Overall, the book was really good and I ended up enjoying. I loved the funny banter between the main and secondary characters. The plot was pretty good and fast paced. I cannot wait to get an update on these couples in book 3 !

“Deep down this is starting to feel a little bit like it is… more.”

I laughed so hard with Geoff and Christa I mean the crumpet scene, just the visual of Christa eating her crumpets in that moment absolutely had me laughing out loud. We got more of Lucy and an unfortunate scissor incident I think all women will remember those days. If you read Dating Ban you will know Christa is Ivy’s best friend and Geoff is Theo’s brother and in Dating Ban you can see their chemistry but Christa was in a relationship at the time. Fast forward prior to this story she is no longer in a relationship and they had a one night stand and now she is pregnant and they are going to raise the baby together as friends. Also during this time Geoff is making a career transition and is suffering from ED and the handling of it chefs kiss. So while he dates Christa will be his coach since they don’t want to complicate things. Forced proximity will always complicate things and when he “helps” her in other ways because he is a gentleman feelings start to develop. 10/10 loved it can’t wait for the next story I need to go back to Jaspers story which is The Unhinged Christmas of a Cat Lady before book 3! Book 2 in the Mind the Corbin Brothers series, Dani Elias delivers everything readers have come to enjoy from her. The Bedroom Ban brings laugh out loud moments, swoony romance, and beloved characters that you can’t get enough of. The dynamic between our two MCs is wonderfully written and felt throughout the story. As they go from friends to more, Dani holds nothing back as they figure life out together.

I love a FMC who loves a good list. As someone who makes lists for everything in her life, I love seeing this portrayed in books that I read and characters that I love. Christa depends on her lists to keep life in order, for both her and people at work. Her need for structure definitely speaks to her underlying need to feel in control, but not in a bad way. A fun night out is just what she needs, but it leads to more fun than she expected, leading to an unexpected pregnancy. As she navigates a situation where a list won’t provide the structure she needs, she finds that structure is sometimes overrated.

Geoff is incredible as the father of Christa’s baby. He is supportive from the very beginning and helps Christa in any way he can. Reading about him as an uncle showed that he really does like kids and will be an amazing father. He truly goes above and beyond to not only support Christa with the emotional strain, but also the physical strain of pregnancy. He does so many little things for her that add up to truly make a huge difference in her world. From the moment Christa tells him of their situation, he never hesitates to do everything he can to make life easier for her.

These two not only bring the heat emotionally but their physical connection shines. The relationship is genuine from the start, just growing deeper and deeper. Dani never fails to make her readers feel real emotions through her books and this one delivers. Christa and Geoff’s situation may start as a sensible decision, being sensible adults, but it slowly becomes everything these two have been looking for.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Christa is my spirit animal. Her sense of humor is super dry and very British in the best way. She also anthropomorphizes literally everything in the most endearing way possible. And now she is unexpectedly pregnant from a single drunken night with a friend's boyfriend's brother. Thankfully they are on the same page when it comes to co parenting. So much so that they decide to move in together for the duration of at least the pregnancy in the interest in saving money.

Geoff is going through some mid life growing pains. First he quits his globe trotting, gig to gig photographer lifestyle. Now back in London full-time, with nothing to fill his time, he finds himself dating (poorly) and facing some existential uncertainty. After getting a recommendation of a therapist from his brother's girlfriend, his new therapist Pee Pee (hands down my favorite fictional therapist ever, and reason for endless giggles) suggests he remove the hook-up portion of his dates from his dating life and focus on connection. I love watching him find his footing in his romantic life through this book, but also find a new way to enjoy his job. I like how realistic it is for him to want different things later in life, and comfortably pivot his love of photography into a love of teaching it to new photographers.

The two of them are adorably awkward as they figure out how to be together. I love how they interact with Geoff's niece Lucy- each of them are excellent with her.

My favorite thing about this book is the small moments included. There are not these giant sweeping declarations or expectations. It's just two people figuring out how to do life together. It may have to do with them being the age they are, or it might just be Dani Elias' writing, but it is infinitely relatable and heartwarming and swoony.

This book is another fantastic rom com from Elias, with all the heart and laughs I have come to expect. It's why she is one of my must-read authors.

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Okay… I loved this. ❤️

First of all, the British humour is, as always, absolutely spot on. Dry, sharp, and properly funny without trying too hard. And secondly, Lucy is back and once again stealing every single scene she walks into. That child deserves her own fan club at this point.

What I appreciated most though is that this isn’t one of those romcoms that hides behind constant banter but forgets to give you any real emotional depth. This is a gentle, very human romance that explores things you don’t often see talked about, especially in such a normal and respectful way. I particularly loved how Geoff’s performance issues were handled. Honest, a bit vulnerable, but never played for cheap drama, and the fact the intimacy still felt real and satisfying just made it better. It all feels very grounded, like you’re not just reading about these people but quietly sitting in the room with them.

My absolute favourite moments have to be both squirty cream scenes, which were equal parts hilarious and weirdly sweet, and Geoff and Jasper’s phone call about Lucy being “not naughty”, which was just perfect. Funny, warm, and very them. 😄

Honestly, I’m just a bit in awe of Geoff, Christa, the ODD (who did eventually get his act together), and the author for delivering a romcom that made me laugh, wince, and feel quite a lot of feelings all at the same time. Properly emotional, properly funny, properly worth it

As usual, Dani Elias has made me laugh out loud! I love her ability to weave humor into stressful situations and adult conversations. After all, what is adulthood if not humorous? 🤣

Still, while I loved her previous books this one was much harder for me to connect with. The characters, while real and definitely relatable, simply didn't approach the situation with enough severity for me to take them seriously. I understand that you want to start out friends and work your way up to co-parenting, with the possibility of something else later-on. However, this was too sterile, too organized. It felt...disconnected from reality. The relationship between Geoff and Christa was slow-going, too slow if I'm being brutally honest. 🤷‍♀️

Was The Bedroom Ban: Finding Myself... One Awkward Date at a Time bad? Absolutely not! I applaud a mature adult rom-com and the accidental pregnancy trope. 👶 Was it great? Eh, not my favorite from this author. Solidly mid-level enjoyment. It was a nice palette cleanser though. Gave me fluffy rom-com feels. 💕

One of my favorite Dani Elias reads, this is laugh out loud funny, quiet and steadfast, cute and quirky, and completely charming! It all starts with a man, Geoff, who has just retired from his high fly photography job and now finds himself with a lot of time on his hands, some general dissatisfaction with where his life is at and who’s got a problem with his “little man”, takes a surprise left and hits Geoff and family friend Christa with an accidental pregnancy (pre “little man problems), and careens straight to forced proximity and a baby mama who is bound and determined to coach her baby daddy through his horrendous dating life and his “problem”. And it promptly and completely steals your heart as these two work out how co-parenting is going to look, deny, deny, deny, there is anything more between them, survive date disasters, questionable cravings, and all those pregnancy hormones, while without fanfare, without drama, and in such a stunningly simple but honest and real way, falling in love. With the underlying idea that sometimes your body knows when it’s out of sorts, sometimes no expectations and zero pressure unlock the very best things, and that when it’s true and when it’s meant to be maybe you don’t have to try finding it at all it’ll just find you, this is an absurdly adorable romance that resonates and is an absolutely wonderful time.

The Bedroom Ban is a beautifully executed romantic comedy that feels less like a standard romcom and more like a slice of real life captured with heart and wit.
This story prioritizes the depth of friendship and the beauty of two people becoming comfortable with each other in a truly human way, dropping me into a world of domestic tension and the kind of simmering, slow-burn connection that feels entirely earned.
The magic of this novel lies in its subtlety, focusing on Geoff and Christa as they navigate the aftermath of an unexpected pregnancy while dealing with their own personal pivots.
Geoff is at a crossroads with his health and career, while Christa is reclaiming her life after a fiancé walked out on her at forty-three.
Their chemistry isn’t about grand gestures; it’s built in the quiet moments of shared routines, doctor appointments, and the consistent support they offer one another.
The writing perfectly balances sharp humor with a deep respect for vulnerability and mental health.
Geoff and Christa are refreshingly imperfect and completely believable, building a connection that feels steady and earned. With a cast of supportive returning characters, this is a refreshing, hilarious, and deeply comforting read.
I am so grateful to Dani Elias and Happily Booked PR for the gifted ARC.

I love Dani Elias’ writing style! It instantly sucks me in and I can’t put her books down! Keep her in mind whenever you are in a reading slump.

This is book 2 in her series about the Corbin brothers (Theo, Jasper, and Geoff) as they find love. Book 1 was about Theo, Book 2 is about Geoff, and Jasper finds love in Book 3 of the author’s Cat Lady series (another must read series).

Geoff has recently left his photography career, hasn’t figured out what to do next, and is struggling with his dating life. He has recently entered therapy and is looking to find his next move in life. Christa (best friend to Theo’s partner) is at a crossroads in her career and busy crunching numbers to determine if she can make a career shift.

The story begins with the reveal that Geoff and Christa had a one night stand. Christa is now pregnant. Both Christa and Geoff are in their early 40s and decide that they want to keep the baby and coparent as friends and mature adults. Christa moves in with Geoff for support during the pregnancy and ease of coparenting once the baby arrives.

Will they both achieve their personal and professional goals? Will their cohabitation lead to something more between them? Read to find out!

Highlights for me include Geoff’s therapy sessions, Christa’s hilarious food cravings, and meeting the Corbin brothers’ mom!

Book 2 in the Corbin brothers series - this is mid-life romance in all its messiness and it’s a great read. Geoff Corbin has left his glamorous photography job behind him and it’s a bigger recalibration than he expected. He has a hookup with Christa, who is already part of his friendship group, but they both agree it was just one night and move one. Next thing … Christa is pregnant, and at 43, and single, it’s a lot to adjust to. Christa is very organised in her work, but not in her private life so she accepts help from Geoff, including moving into his flat.

Geoff is having some … ahem … problems and his decision to go to therapy means there is a lot of wisdom being sprinkled around - and hence the title. It is so refreshing to have characters (especially a man!) doing the work on himself.

I laughed a lot as Christa is an unfiltered gem who leans into the hormonal - and horny - side of pregnancy.

My only quibble is that their relationship comes more from comfort and ease, than it does from longing or desperation. They are great together though, and I was excited for them to be parents.

Thank you Dani Elias and Happily Booked PR for the ARC. Opinions are my own.

I absolutely adored this from start to finish. I have sat and devoured the entire book in one sitting. This is the first accidental pregnancy book I've read and this trope was handled so well in this story.

Geoff is fabulous, a golden retriever who just wants to help those around him. Such a solid presence to his niece and so good with the teenagers he briefly teaches for a few weeks.
Christa is a whirlwind of energy and her love to keep things organised is a strength in itself. A fiercely strong woman who knows her own mind.

The two of them together are perfection and the banter between them is fantastic. You won't find any miscommunication issues with these two, they are open, and bluntly honest with each other throughout.

As for the side characters, the Corbin brothers are a fantastic trio, and Elizabeth Corbin is a fierce and strong woman.
5/6 year old Lucy is hilarious and reminds me of my 8 year old son in all the best ways.

Dani Elias' writing once again was beautiful, easy to read, flowed effortlessly, and made you truly care about these characters. I will truly read anything Dani writes at this point.

This one was such a fun, feel-good romantic comedy that had me smiling the entire time. But what really made it stand out for me was the friendship at its core—it felt so genuine, supportive, and layered in a way that made every moment hit just a little deeper.

Christa and Geoff? Absolute perfection. Their chemistry is effortless, and the banter between them is sharp, witty, and completely addictive. I loved that their relationship wasn’t built on frustrating miscommunication (finally 🙌). Instead, they’re refreshingly open and bluntly honest with each other, which made their connection feel real, mature, and so easy to root for.

Dani always does such a great job of blending humor with heart, and this book is no exception. Beneath all the laugh-out-loud moments, there are deeper, more personal themes woven in—topics that aren’t always explored in romcoms, but are handled here with care and authenticity. It adds an emotional depth that really elevates the story beyond just a light romance.

If you’re looking for a romcom with sparkling banter, strong friendships, and a little extra emotional punch, this one definitely delivers 💕

The Bedroom Ban

This is the 3rd Corbin brothers book.
We first met Geoff and Christa in the Dating Ban, but at the time Christa was engaged and Geoff was a jet setting professional photographer.

But now Christa has broken it off with her fiancé, lives in a cupboard size flat, and has discovered that she is pregnant from a drunken night with Geoff.

Geoff has retired from his fast paced lifestyle and now has a "small " performance issue.

And when Christa moves in with Geoff as a roommate and his dating coach, that's when the laughter starts.

I absolutely loved this book!
I laughed so hard many times over that i think those that walked by my car when i was reading on my lunch break heard me.

Geoff is such a steady male character, yes he has his internal spirals but he is present for Christa. Plus he is the dotting uncle that with wear a tiara for his niece Lucy.

Speaking of Lucy....
She is the absolute best, from cutting her fringe to naming the baby rainbow unicorn to calling her dad by his government name because her Nana did.

Now I want crumpets

Another amazing read by Dani Elias

The Bedroom Ban

Surprise pregnancy is my least favourite troupe but Dani has written a book that makes me like it a little bit more. Geoff and Crista are such fun characters.

As you know, I love Dani's work. I love that her characters are usually in their mid 30's (at least) up to mid 40's and that their storylines are so plausible. It makes the reader feel like they are checking in with friends. Catching up on the ups & downs of their lives.

And again, she has hit that sweet spot with these two characters. What starts off with what could be an awkward situation develops into one of genuine understanding, compassion, caring and ultimately love. These two were meant to be together but it wasn't always obvious to them.

They navigated the obstacles placed in front of them with care and humour. And man, the humour was spot on. It had me chuckling and at times, laughing out loud at their antics and sarcastic comments. Did I say that I loved Geoff and Crista? Well I did and you will too.

This is such a well rounded book with amazing main characters and involved side characters who bring added depth to the story. 4.5 stars from me.

This book is a sweet, funny, and heartfelt story about two people brought together by unexpected circumstances. After a one-night stand, the main characters are surprised to discover a pregnancy, which leads them to navigate life together in a very real and emotional way.

The male main character is respectful, kind, and deeply family-oriented, even as he goes through his own personal struggles. The female main character is sassy yet lovable, dealing with her own life challenges, especially with her career and sudden pregnancy. What stands out is the trust she has in him, she knows he will step up and take responsibility because of his strong morals.

As they decide to face the pregnancy together, their relationship slowly grows. Living together brings them closer, and their bond develops naturally into something deeper. The support from friends and family adds warmth to the story and highlights the importance of community and connection.

Overall, it’s a down-to-earth romance that emphasizes family, friendship, and doing the right thing. It also touches on sensitive topics, especially for men, and shows that asking for help during difficult times is not a weakness but a strength.

The Bedroom Ban is a rom com that doesn’t feel like a rom com. It has mature characters and it’s real. Most rom coms stick to a trope and shove it down your throat throughout the entire story. This did not read that way and I loved it.

Geoff is struggling with “performance” issues and doesnt really know what he wants in life at this point in time. He’s taken a break from his career as a photographer and started teaching part time. He is seeing a therapist for his performance issues and trying to get his body back to being “normal” in his terms. Christa is regaining her confidence and independence after her fiancé left her. She met Geoff at a party and a one night stand later, she’s pregnant. And thus begins the friendly co-parenting relationship (yeah right).

They agree to coparent as friends but living together, going to doctors appointments, etc throws a wretch in the friends part of their relationship. It’s a natural progression that is slow and steady. It’s organic and real. I loved seeing their love grow and blossom.

Thank you to the author and Happily Booked PR for this ARC. this is my honest and voluntary review
