This is an interesting sock book and the first one I read that included using the Addi-Express knitting machine. Despite all the pretty socks, I am not sold that many of them will actually perform very well. So many of them, particularly the beautiful over-the-knee pair on the back cover, look like they will annoyingly slide down into a frustrating puddle at your ankles, or, worse yet, under your heel in your shoes. I've been burned by socks that are designed without enough ribbing to hug the leg and I vow not to let that happen again! Many pairs would make great slippers, though.

What a wealth of information - I did not know there were so many ways to make some. There is no reason now for not making some lovely handmade woollen socks. Have a look at the spiral method - no nasty turning heals and they look and fit nicely.
There are seven ways to make socks - crochet, felting, dolly machine, using two circular needles, 3 different ways to make heels, knitting toe up or cuff down and the spiral methods. Wow. Some of the colours may not appeal but the sock shapes and fit certainly are good from short, long and ankle there are choices aplenty. I hardest part will be which to start of with.

Everything a new or intermediate sock maker needs! There are so many options for socks that keeping track of them and remembering how to do the little tricks is almost impossible. But all those methods and tricks are here! The layout is wonderful. Everything is on a two-page spread so there's no flipping around while working on a pattern. Earlier methods are referenced but you just have to mark them and it's a simple flip since those methods are easy to view, too. I love that this includes knitting and crochet. A new sock maker will be able to get started right away. People with a couple of socks already made will find new inspiration and methods. Experienced sock makers will have something to fall back on or hand off to their friends who are just getting started.

This book really does deliver on what it promises in the title - it contains a multitude of socks made every single way you could possibly think of. I saw socks made in ways I hadn't even considered (and, probably, never will - I'm not sure how comfortable a crocheted sock would actually be). It was an interesting read and would be an excellent guide for a new knitter, as it includes really great tutorials on making sock that break down each type of construction in to its constituent parts.

I think this is a useful book that suffers a little bit from information overload. Definitely worth a look though.

A useful book for beginners and experienced alike.
There are lots of useful tips included, for example using a "lifeline" and giving a chart relating to shoe snd sock sizing.
The patterns included in the book are straightforward to work and the illustrations are very clear.
I was given this digital copy by the publisher via Netgalley in return for an honest unbiased review.
