Recomendo vivamente.

--

EN If there are stories that truly define who Superman is, this is certainly one of them.

Not only does it clearly showcase the hero who embodies Humanity’s hope, but it also takes us on a brief yet meaningful journey through some of the most significant moments of his past.

Several double-page spreads featuring multiple DC characters are absolutely fabulous, enhancing both the scale and the impact of the narrative.

And of course, the Treasury format — which I was never particularly fond of — is gradually winning me over. Its larger dimensions truly elevate the artwork and give certain compositions even greater presence.

Highly recommended.

This issue is everything Superman should be — inspiring, hopeful, and heartfelt. The oversized format lets the creative team shine: Dan Jurgens delivers a timeless, uplifting story, and Bruno Redondo’s art brings warmth and clarity to every panel. Whether he’s saving the world or lifting someone’s spirit, Superman is portrayed here as a true symbol of compassion and strength. A love letter to the Man of Steel and the people he protects.

This was a fantastic read. It has great pacing with times feeling desperate and then later, uplifting. The art fits the story and treasury size perfectly. This is how Superman is when written well. He instills hope and is more than just a super hero. A great read and a top notch presentation well worth the money spent.

I’ve never really been aware of “treasury” editions of comics before this one, but this was a fun oversized ride with amazing art. Sure it was a bit of a basic and quick invasion story that also served to quickly recap a lot of Superman’s history and get people hype for the movie, but that art and the hope radiating off the pages made for a great time. It’s also interesting that this story through is back to a time when Jon was still a kid. So when a giant robot made of alien material comes crashing down on metropolis, Superman jumps into action while sending Jon away back to Smallville with Ma and Pa Kent. It was a tough robot, but nothing Superman couldn’t handle while driving it into the river to keep it away from other people. Sure he had to punch his way out of it after it apparently tried to keep him inside, but with it shutting down any strange effects it had on him seemed to go with it. Superman rises back to the shore only to meet Lois and…LEX?! With Lex’s interest in the city he doesn’t want to see another one of these come down, which is why he swung on by to tell Superman where he detected the original in space so he can fly up and deal with it! On the way up Superman couldn’t help by look down to earth and think about how thankful he is that he came here and was able to grow up here. This immediately throws us into a flashback sequence when Clark was a child on the farm, playing a game with all his friends (Lana, Pete, even Lex Luthor), until suddenly a twister starts to come in on the horizon! Pa Kent rushes everyone down to the cellar, but right as he is about to close the hatch the tornado hits and their house is completely destroyed! The kids and Ma were able to get to safety…but Pa Kent was swept up in the tornado! Leading to a moment very reminiscent of the death of Superman, but with Clark holding Pa Kent in his arms. Except…that isn’t right! We just saw Pa Kent in the modern day taking Jon back to the farm, he is alive and well…what is happening?

That’s what everyone else back on the watchtower is starting to wonder as well, as suddenly a slight disturbance from mars on their sensors…turns into a laser ripping the entire watchtower in half! Green arrow and black canary were on monitor duty, and luckily Dinah was able to hold onto Ollie as he used a grappling arrow to pull them into a teleportation chamber before the watchtower blew up! But only moments later we zoom out to see the entire mothership and invasion fleet heading towards earth, and the one thing on everyone’s mind…where is Superman?!

As it turns out he is currently thinking back to his time on the farm, with his Pa dead he decided that was his place to be to support his mom. But Lex Luthor, being his friend and voice of reason, pushed him to get away from the farm and come to the city to make something for himself. Ma Kent completely agreed and helped to push him towards college, opting to make a deal with the neighbors to work the farm. But again…this isn’t right. Pa shouldn’t be dead and Lex wasn’t the one to push Clark to metropolis.

Back on Earth its invasion day and everyone is getting hit with no end in sight, Martian Manhunter was able to setup a telepathic communication between the heroes, but with how far stretched they are he isn’t able to sustain it. The only thing they really don’t have to worry about is world leaders, as they have been safely taken to an underwater secure facility with Aquaman. Still on everyone’s mind is the disappearance of Superman, Diana even showed up to defend the daily planet from the powerful alien soldiers invading in order to ask that very question, and no one knows. We see as the Kent’s take their truck off roaring to get off the congested roads to try and get Jon to safety…only to be swarmed by the invasion goons looking specifically for Jon! Luckily Steel determines that Jon may be a target and swept in to provide an assist and her the Kent’s moving again.

Suddenly we flash back into Clark’s mind as he is remembering a time when Lex introduced him to Perry White, chief of the daily planet, and after showing Perry Clark’s work all these years, it even landed Clark a job. And it seems Lex knows a lot of the people at the office because he is currently dating Lois Lane. Suddenly even Clark is drawn back, hearing Lois call someone else “smallville” doesn’t seem right to him…the confines of this broken world are starting to get to him and he doesn’t like it.

As the invasion continues, Earth’s heroes begin to fall and communication is broken. That is when the leaders of this conquest decide to come down in metropolis and show face. And it turns out that the leading forces behind this are Maxima and Cyborg Superman! Henshaw I recognize and I don’t need the blurb from batman later on dishing out his exposition, but Maxima I’ve never heard of. But it turns out she is queen of Almerac and its ever expanding empire, and she first came to earth to conscript Superman as a warlord in her army…but obviously you can see how Superman would hate that, and I’m sure you can draw your conclusions on why a Queen would not like someone rejecting her. So now she is back and teaming up with Henshaw to take Earth for their own, and the way she is going to start doing that is by taking Superman’s lover and their son! Diana happened to still be in metropolis as this was happening, and was the first to deliver a very satisfying uppercut to Henshaw. But when him still targeting Lois, that opened the perfect opportunity for Batman to swoop in with the Batmobile and pick her up to take her to a safe location. Of course they are still trying to get away from cyborg Superman, which is why batman called in someone else with a vested interest in metropolis to provide a hand…Lex Luthor and his super suit were able to keep Henshaw distracted long enough for batman and Lois to get away to a secure nth metal lined facility! There they are able to give exposition on maxima and Henshaw, and determine that Jon was probably the thing that set her off, feeling as though only she is powerful enough to continue his bloodline or whatever. Which would explain why there are guards currently going after Jon.

As we jump over to check on the Kents, we find that their escape has taken them out of the truck and into the woods…only for them to come into contact with Glyanna, an alien girl that Jon previously met when she wanted Superman to be her puppet! Jon immediately sends out laser beams, but as it turns out she is here to help them. But those lasers already topped off the goons looking for them to their location. We jump back into Clark’s head only to see that a significant amount of time has passed and he is now the chief of the planet. And look who has swung by, it’s none other than Lex, Lois, and their two kids. The thing that finally set Clark off to break this world was the fact that the kid who looked like Jon was being called Lex, Jr, lol. This is literal to something Clark can it accept and suddenly he crashes down on the table, breaking the entire simulation around him! We jump into the center of the mother ship as the telepathic specialist Sazu is struggling to keep a handle on Superman in their chamber, and the technicians are recommending they increase power to the amplifiers already working overtime. Somehow he is fighting them, and as Jon is fighting the alien invaders that have come after him, we see that Superman is doing some mental fighting of his own. The art style shifts as we get a boat load of exposition on Superman’s entire life from the moment his shipped crashed, to his time as SuperBoy, to first starting at the planet, to fighting his rouges and joining the Justice league, to dying, to coming back to getting married, to fighting alternate versions of himself, to have a son, and finally coming full circle to remember who he is and burst free from the mind control chamber and back into the awesome art style we started and ended this issue with!! He immediately realizes who had him under their control and who that means he is fighting. He has no clue how long he was out, only that an invasion is in full effect and using the element of surprise he is able to traveler around the entire globe and target the crucial tech on the ships to completely dismantle all of them in no time! The invasion force had no clue what hit them, and as soon as he finished up in space he was down on the ground destroying the armor of the invasion forces that went after his parent and son, and then heading off to end this.

Maxima set Henshaw on a task to find Lois, and using his tech capabilities he was able to find her by using her voice in range of literally any microphone. Batman tried to fight back by using Kryptonite, but Henshaw was too fast. Luckily Superman is fast and was able to bust in and throw Henshaw outside before he could separate Batman’s head from his body. Henshaw is ready to face Superman thigh, he knows he can’t face all of them alone. Alone? Alone you say?! You think he would come here alone?! What dj you think he was doing the entire time!? Suddenly we have the coolest two pages spread and lineup of heroes I’ve seen in a minute, just an absolutely great group! And somehow mister terrific is balancing on his own t spheres and flying in the background. Love it! The lanterns immediately imprison Henshaw, which leaves Superman to go and end this with maxima. She was fully planning on blowing out of here and leaving dark energy bursts in her wake to destroy Earth, but Superman busted through her ship and took her out the other side with different plans! He was able to defeat her by faking her out with his cape, and then taking her by her own cape and swinging her around into a building until she was unconscious. I can’t help but think of incredibles and the “NO CAPES” rule, lol. As the issue comes to an end, the rebuilding effort immediately begins and Maxima was taken by Wonder Woman and put on ice until they can come up with something permanent. And of course the person leading these rebuilding efforts is Superman!

Hopefully, Superman journey for the new generation begins on the silver screen. However, for those seeking a deeper dive into the Man of Steel's comic book adventures, the journey has been a challenging one. With notable exception of Peter Tomasi's run, recent years have seen the character's comic presence range from mediocre to, in some instances, disappointing, particularly at the Bendis era. Therefore, approaching "Superman Treasury 2025," I had reservations. Yet, a glimmer of hope for this edition was Dan Jurgens, a titan in Superman's history, at the cover. I expected that Jurgens, more than anyone, would understand the essence of the character and know precisely how to navigate his narrative.

"Superman Treasury 2025" is a gateway to the character. It weaves together pivotal elements of Superman's existence into a cohesive narrative. This serves as a reminder of why the Man of Steel remains the indispensable figure in the entire DC pantheon. Here, he is not only a powerhouse capable of repelling any global threat, but also a deeply empathetic and emotionally resonant character. The timing of this release coupled with its impactful conclusion, solidifies its status. "Superman Treasury 2025" is an overall success, offering both a nostalgic embrace for long-time fans and an ideal entry point for those eager to continue the movie story in another medium.

This feels like Jurgens last word on superman, signing off from the character with what he classes as the true continuity for Clarke and Jon Kent, who DC royally fucked over.

Sadly though it feels a bit like a 10/12 issue series that DC has backed out of running, and has been cut down to this 1 volume which equates to 4.5 issues.
As a result it doesn’t quite feel right work, it feels like a summary of a bigger series that needed the room to breathe to be completely effective.

Recommended for those invested in Jurgens’ Superman story, but it’s not one for the ages.

I enjoyed this story immensely. Having Maxima come back with her obsession over Superman was perfect. The story kept me guessing over why Jonathan died and how Superman would escape. We all knew he would.

Worth every penny.

By far, one of the best Superman stories out right now. This was good. A celebration for the character. Very detailed in the writing and the art. Give it a read. It does not disappoint. Its pricey but you can see why. The art alone is outstanding.

Gotta say, I do want to see more Maxima. And I'm even okay with her going back to villainy. Having her crazy jealous and possessive of Superman has been her classic MO.
