Dex Jarvie was a third-generation cowboy, and his family history was steeped in traditions. They were important to him, and no woman was going to trample on them.
Dex was known as a hard man. He was fair, loyal, and trustworthy. But a series of unfortunate events in his life had made him hard. He was a glass-half-empty kind of guy who didn’t trust easily. But when he loved, he loved fiercely. Currently, the only thing he loved was the land his ranch was built on. Two generations before him worked and died on the land building it into what it was today—one of the largest ranches in northern Texas.
Dakota Kendrick was new to Texas and the huge ranches that seemed decadent and unnecessary. How much does one man need? But she had no idea how it all worked until she was mistakenly hired for a traditionally male position as trail boss cook.
Dex Jarvie was determined not to give her a chance.
Dakota was just as determined to end the one-hundred-year-old tradition.
Dex is the first book in the Double J Ranch series.
Leigh Spends her days with cute, sexy guys. Unfortunately, they’re on paper. But still, not a bad way to spend your day. She also writes about strong, independent women who can hold their own against these irresistible guys. She’s not a pure romance writer because she breaks the rules a bit. But that’s the fun part. Leigh’s stories have adventure, family relationships, and the struggles life throws at you sometimes. But boy always meets girl. They tussle a bit while they figure out what they really want. Then find their happily ever after, even though it might not be what they thought it was going to be. But the most amazing thing about this is, she does it all with a dog on her lap. Her muse may not be one of her book boyfriends. But a cute dog is the next best thing.
I wanted to like the book because it appeared on my Kindle Unlimited feed along others I have read. Sunny / grumpy romances are a favorite of mine so the set up of the book is one I am inclined to like.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of swearing in this book. It is actually distracting and lowers the quality of the text. I think authors who repeat themselves lower the quality of their text in general. Repetition is the bane of the authors I have chosen lately, and even the “clean” ones I read are boring me.
In short, I had difficulty finishing the book. I only read clean romance so I am also disappointed with the suggestion in the feed. I wish Amazon had a better way to screen their suggestions.
I love Leigh Fenty's novels. This one is the beginning of her new series and she delivered again! The majority of these characters are charming and some are rather challenging. I enjoyed the cattle drive and the cowboys as well as the feisty women. If you enjoy a good western story then give this a try.
What a great book. Dex and Dakota met when she became the first woman trail cook on his cattle drive. There was trail struggles, a family death, lost children returning and new love. I recommend this nice clean book to everyone. It will keep you interested. Thank you Leigh Fenty for a wonderful story line and great writing. I really enjoyed this book.
I will read anything by Ms. Fenty. Wordsmithing at its finest, characters so real you get attached and a wonderful location. The dynamics between characters is so meaningful and the ending made me happy!
I really enjoyed book 1 in this series watching Dex and Dakota travel their road to finding their HEA. I'm looking forward to reading book 2 in this series and will definitely recommend this book to everyone.
