VOLUME II of The Smoke Series

When bullets fly, love is put to the ultimate test.

Mia and Murder are caught in a hail of gunfire—and when the smoke clears, nothing will ever be the same. Someone wants them dead, and Murder is hellbent on returning the favor.

Mia never imagined her move to Miami would plunge her into chaos. Falling for Murder meant stepping into a world of secrets, shadows, and shootouts. As danger stalks their every move, she begins to wonder if love is enough—or if it’s the biggest risk of all.

For Murder, keeping Mia safe is priority one. But with the mystery of his sister’s attempted murder still unsolved, he finds it hard to find the right balance. His conscience is heavy with the secrets he has to keep from Mia, specifically about the Lucky Star Casino hit. He quickly realizes that after a certain point, he has to make extremely difficult choices that might hurt the person he cares about the most.

As passion and peril collide, can Mia and Murder survive the storm closing in on them? Or will their love be the final casualty?

Aliyah was weird to me from the start. She didn’t even know Mia, yet she was dead set on going behind her. Completely delusional behavior. Going after Miles because she felt like Mia had “her man” made no sense, and honestly, she wasn’t a good enough friend for Shaniece to even consider betraying Mia on her behalf.

Shaniece, on the other hand, was amazing all around. I loved her character. She was loyal as both a friend and a girlfriend, and she really could do no wrong in my eyes.

Mac was something else. He did what he did and really thought he’d just deal with the consequences later. Of course, once Shaniece finally left him, he started losing it. Typical.

Chantel holding that child over Mac’s head was crazy, and Mac is too grown to have allowed that. Julissa is 15, and Mac had absolutely no excuse in that situation.

Shaniece and Mia had sense and weren’t with the games at all. Mia’s feelings were completely valid as far as how she felt uprooting because she was right about everything from the start.

Things spiraled even more once Mia moved with Murder, and honestly… yes. Mystique finally showing up was the icing on the cake.

This was a solid 3 star rating. I wanted to rate it higher but it took me ages to finish!!! (Almost wanted to DNF)

Although this book was much more interesting than the previous book in the series- I still couldn't get over Sephiri's style of writing. It's anticlimactic, telling more than showing, and predictable at some points. But overall, it is still a good read. It just took me a min...

Mia (the main character) got on my nerves. Like, is she really that naive? She's jobless and chasing after this man that is a full blown killer and if you betray him he'll turn on you in a second. Scary stuff yet Sephiri did everything she could to romanticise him. No sir, Marquis is scary and lives up to his alias- Murder 😅

Aaliyah is going to be a problem. Marquis is in the business of rejecting women- I mean, he rejected Mia when they first met 😂 but I wonder what her plan is with Marcus🤔. I don't think he's serious about getting Mia back...but then again it hasn't been that long because Marquis and Mia have an insta-love so the timeline is all off. In reality, they haven't been together that long... they are complete strangers behaving like longtime partners. 🙄🥱

Anywho, I felt sorry for Shaniece. But we all saw that coming. Even with Daman. Chantel was aggressive!!! She's also just as selfish as Murder is with keeping his sister alive. How can she leave for 14 years and pop back up expecting to pick up where they left off? And Mac fell for it?🤦🏾‍♀️ Dunno, if their relationship will survive the BM drama unless Chantel moves on🤷🏾‍♀️

Did Steez actually set the house on fire? Because Murder has poor judgement lol and is trigger friendly lol The ending was hella predictable. Like I knew that was going to happen lol

I'm interested to see how this series ends...

Oh, and I'm glad we saw less of Mia's family and their drama. I found it so boring 🥱I personally don't care about the secrets her father is keeping but I'm sure we will still find out anyway-over several long drawn out chapters 🙃 Oh, and making Matthew figure his way home was cold but at least Murder spared him for that ultimate betrayal.😂😂😂

Thought this was the last book 🙄 I won’t be holding my breath for part 3 but I am interested enough to want to know how it ends.

The story is messy and everyone is slow, the only person I’ve liked from beginning to end is Shannice. I can’t stand Mac for what he done but my girl will never be down bad, thank yaa!!

Everyone else needs to do a lot of self reflecting, why’s Mia just accepting everything no questions asked? He’s playing in her first for real and unfortunately it’s comical.
Murder is just something crazy, and not in the way I love a character to be. Him and Mia definitely suit because it’s giving dumb and dumber.
Mac & his lil hoochie need to run off somewhere & be a happy family. He better not disturb Shannice when she gets to loving on Damon!
Mother and Son are irrelevant, this part of the story was unnecessary but father dearest oh myyyy, you naughty naughty boy. Let me find out you’ve got some balls to you after all.
Aaliyah? And needs to go join Steez asap. Her delusional isn’t making sense, since she’s had the man in her life since forever? So what are you up to now?

The ending ? Oh baby don’t play with me because I know it was Latoya! Get me the answers

What I will say to summarise my review, the story doesn’t feel like it’s dragging. I have had ‘wth’ moments but not about the story being prolonged. I found myself enjoying every crazy persons pov, I did however, skimmed quickly through Mac & Aaliyah’s pov.

I hope part 3 really drives it home and makes it worthy enough for a high 4 star . Let’s go

Intense

Ok this has wayyyy more twists and turns than the first one. So much in happening and I can't wait to see how this finishes. These characters are something else but that damn Mac and Aliyah done pissed me off because what!!! Who needs enemies with people like that around but I am pretty sure it's not gonna go as planned because what ever does!!
