A Brewed Awakening

Rate this book
Daphne dreams of Mr. Darcy. Finn serves up pints and rock music. Can opposites attract when a tea shop princess meets her pub-owning rival?

In the charming mountain town of Wisteria, North Carolina, Daphne Austen clings to tradition like cream to a scone. She's built her life--and her late grandmother's tearoom, Tea Thyme--around all things delicate china, Jane Austen novels, and the comforting predictability of routine. The only thing threatening her perfectly ordered world? The loud, aggravatingly handsome Brit opening a pub next door.

After his ex-wife broke his heart and his business partner nearly destroyed his career, Finn Dashwood packed up his six-year-old daughter and left England behind. He's looking for a fresh start, and the last thing he needs is a fussy, tea-obsessed neighbor criticizing his every pint and playlist. It doesn't matter that she's ridiculously kind (to everyone else) and that his daughter is utterly fascinated by her. Finn's heart is not open to being broken again.

But disagreements turn into prank wars and then a competition when a high-profile wedding needs a last-minute caterer. The townsfolk are thrilled--Wisteria hasn't seen this much excitement since the county fair lost a goat.

When the wedding demands both sweet and savory fare, Daphne and Finn are forced to put down their swords and pick up their serving trays. Between burnt pastries, brewing tempers, trending hashtags (#SipsAndSpats, anyone?), and one very adorable little girl, rivalry soon gives way to reluctant friendship--and maybe something that feels suspiciously like chemistry.

Can a tea shop princess and a pub owner with a past mix their lives as seamlessly as clotted cream and jam . . . or will their differences keep them steeped in rivalry forever?

✨🥰☕🥐 Heartwarming, witty and charming! A sweet small-town romance, with a beautiful community of people, and a fun sense of humour. The character's all felt genuine, kind, endearing and wonderful.

💬 The social media posts and conversations at the start of each chapter were highly entertaining, they gave you a glimpse into the whole community, and were one of my favorite sections of the story! They were filled with funny hashtags, gossip and flirty banter that always had me chuckling.

🍵🍺 The story follows Daphne, a local business owner who now has a rival business opening up next to hers - enter the dashing (decadently British) Finn Dashwood (aka Flynn "Smolder" Dashwood). He is new to town and opening a hearty pub restaurant next to Daphne's elegant tea shop and bakery. Suffice it to say that this book made me HUNGRY. It was filled with delightful foodie conversations, dishes, descriptions, and competitions. It honestly made me want to bake and cook all day. 😋

💕 The chemistry between Finn & Daphne was great in this one, I loved the teasing and banter - the romance was endearing and sweet. I loved how they challenged and inspired each other, and sparked creativity in their craft. Also, it was lovely to see their journey of finding hope again - and how they worked through their own fears, grief, and loss based on past experiences.

💞 I love the characters and family dynamics the author writes in her stories - they're always so genuine, kind and engaging. Finn was a single-dad to an adorable little girl, who had medical issues related to speech. Daphne's older brother Jack was protective and caring, and they had a great relationship.

🌀 I was not expecting the plot twist in the last 25% of the book and loved the sense of community it displayed, how everyone came together. It was also a nice change of pace to have an event like that take place instead of a regular third-act breakup or similar scenes. It felt more real and meaningful, and I felt the conclusion was better with the addition of the external crisis (that seemed to be based on experience as it felt very real).

🎧 I would love to hear this as an audiobook, it would be great with the Southern & English accents of the character's! Honestly, I'd love a movie too

One thing that could have been better:

The first 30% or so exaggerated the awkwardness, dialogues and dynamics between the character's. It didn't feel as natural in parts because it felt like it was trying too hard to establish a certain personality and characterization for them. Some scenes were dragged out a little longer than necessary with the internal analysis of the character's thoughts and perceptions about each other that I felt could have had more active dialogues and pacing. I think overall this section could have been more condensed. The rest of the story found it's groove and progressed more naturally.

Concluding Thoughts:

This is the second book I've read by Pepper Basham, the last one I had read was a historical fiction. She infuses many values and traits that bring the character's and communities to life in a well-rounded way. The romance is always delightful, having a charming and witty quality. She also touches upon the human experiences and emotions in a way that lends more weight to the fears and choices of the character's.

Overall, this was a lovely contemporary romance that was lighthearted, sweet and charming.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the complementary e-arc of this novel. All opinions expressed here are my own.

This romcom was so cute! One hot chef + a neighboring teashop owner = lots of flirtatious foodie banter.

In unique Pepper Basham style, each chapter starts with a social media post and comments that could be from Twitter or Threads. Everyone from the sheriff to the pastor chimes in from time to time, with local gossip, advertising, and #AllTheCreativeHashtags. I got such a kick out of the Wisteria General Store's creative merch!

At the heart of the novel is a single dad looking for a fresh start and a young woman who has loved and lost one too many times, surrounded by a rather colorful community of small-town Appalachian characters--and a celebrity or two. And there's one little girl with a lisp who loves pink and princesses.

But then comes the plot twist I didn't see coming. Written as only someone who has lived it can. That's when the tears came.

It's a romcom but if you look closely, you'll find some topics near and dear to the author's heart, too. And I think that makes this title extra special.

Note: A bit more kissing and flirting than the Skymar series, but still a clean read!

This book is the ultimate slow-burn romance between an English pub owner and a tea shop proprietor, involving two characters who couldn't be more opposite to each other. Despite their differences, sparks fly between Finn and Daphne from the onset, garnering an audience of local townspeople from Wisteria, North Carolina. With heavily hashtagged social media content following their every move (some posts really should be shared privately!), nothing brings a small town out for gossip-fueled drama like the cooking rivalry that heats up between refined food and comfort food. Foodies will appreciate the delectable meals and treats in this book, making it a chef's kiss for drumming up an appetite while reading.

I appreciate that when difficulties arise, Finn and Daphne realize they cannot lean on their own strength and instead trust in God to help them and their community. With several heated moments between the characters, it's a good thing that they are chaperoned by Finn's adorable daughter, Lucy, who is both brave and beautiful like her favourite character of Rapunzel. Readers who enjoy cutting but not cruel repartee amid a community truly coming together will find it worthwhile to see whether tea or coffee wins the day in A Brewed Awakening. Plus, you might be asking yourself, how does Jodie have so much merchandise and who is buying it all?!

Oh my goodness this book! From about 36% when Lucy had her nosebleed and Daphne helped her and Finn, it just grabbed my heart and did not let go. And the ending! I don't want to say too much about it so as not to spoil anything, but it was a deeply meaningful event that I know was a very personal lived experience for the author.

4.5 stars rounded up - I didn't love Daphne and Finn's dynamic at first, but it was understandable given their life experiences. And at first I didn't love the social media (Twitter/X?) aspect that starts each chapter - although that grew on me! But those are my only small quibbles which are drowned out by the absolutely lovely last two-thirds of this book!! Also, just to put out there that there is no third act breakup.

Highly recommended!

I absolutely adore Pepper Basham's writing style, her wit, her characters, her stories!!! All of it!!! I am completely here for it all!!! She announces a new book and you can be sure that I'm there getting a copy of it as fast as I can so I can sit back, open the book, and soak it all in!!! And this one just had me laughing out loud, smiling broadly, giggling—A LOT—and even shedding a few tears! Ok, a lot more than just a few. That ending was incredible! The feeling of community and care and love just tugged at my heart strings and brought out the water works! I loved it so much!!!

And Daphne Austen (isn't her name adorable?) and Finnley Dashwood (perfect counterpart/hero name for Daphne) shine in this one! I loved their meet-cute, all of the witty banter between them, but especially the chemistry that you could feel! *Happy Sigh* They were just so adorable! I loved watching their initial impressions be challenged and their relationship evolve from frustrated "neighbors" to possibly friends, to definitely more than friends! They're just adorable! The end!!! Hahaha!

There are so many great secondary characters that added to the charm of this small Appalachian town and community! Especially a funny and meddling grandma character! But then we also have the public communications happening with their wit and humor and predictions flying! Those scenes were a hoot to watch unfold! I loved the community members and how they all rallied around each other to create a great sense of family. Whether it was at fun activities, bake-offs, or when disasters strike, they were incredible!

If you're a fan of this author's works, you won't want to miss this one. If you've never read one of her books, you won't want to miss this one! It's a great place to start and I think you'll be hooked just like me! I'm already lined up for my next book by her to read!

I read and listened to this one and just adored both! Ann Marie Gideon & Christopher Ashman were fantastic narrators for these two characters! They brought them and the delightful town and community members to life and had me feeling as if I was right there alongside it all!!!

Content: Clean. Some sweet kisses but nothing further. This is a Christian fiction novel so some themes and elements that fit in so nicely with these characters and storyline. Some mild peril at one point but nothing crazy.

I received a paperback copy from JustRead Publicity Tours. I also received an audiobook copy from Thomas Nelson Fiction Audio, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading & Listening!!!

A brewed awakening was a wonderful small town, enemies/rivals to lovers, closed door romance featuring Daphne, a Wisteria native, and Finn, a single dad who recently moved to Wisteria with his young daughter. Daphne is the owner of the tea shop in Wisteria and a lover of all kinds of teas and sweet treats; while Finn is the complete opposite, a coffee lover who loves to cook savory, english dishes. The banter was great in this story, and the interaction of the main characters with each other and the other Wisteria residents was hilarious and sweet. The narrators had great pace and did an amazing job bringing this story to life.

A Brewed Awakening by Pepper Basham is, quite simply, her best work to date. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book gets all the stars, and it kept me smiling the entire way through.

📖 From the very first chapter, this enemies-to-lovers rom-com delivers charm, heart, and laugh-out-loud moments 😂. Daphne Austen, with her Jane Austen devotion, tearoom traditions 🫖, and love of order, is the perfect foil to Finn Dashwood, a pub-owning Brit serving pints 🍺, rock music 🎸, and second chances. Watching these two clash was pure joy.

The setting alone deserves applause. Wisteria, North Carolina has a cozy, Gilmore Girls–style hometown vibe that makes you want to move there immediately. Add in prank wars 🤭, chalkboard battles, and an utterly delightful hashtag rivalry (#BestRomComEver 😉), and the story becomes impossible to put down.

What truly elevates this book is the heart behind it ❤️. The characters are incredibly lovable, especially Finn’s adorable daughter, and the faith elements are woven in naturally and beautifully. This is a clean romance that still sparkles with chemistry, warmth, and emotional depth.

There is much to love about Basham's latest release: the messages of hope and resilience, the beauty of strong, supportive community... the princess-obsessed six-year-old darling named Lucy. The cast of characters (in Basham's usual style) was hilarious and distinct, and I loved the over-involvement of Wisterian citizens in Finn and Daphne's love lives. They really didn't stand a chance. From Granny D. to Mr. Rutherfurton to Pastor Nate to Daphne's own brother, there was no shortage of individuals eager to put in their two cents (and I mean in the betting sense).

The premise of A Brewed Awakening is so fun, and I am a Daphne girl all the way--give me heels, pink, pretty teacups, and all things British any day. (Although I really want one of Finn's molten chocolate cakes, if I'm being entirely honest.) Finn was charming as all get out, of course, and his and Daphne's banter was top notch. I loved the way their shared love for food and their kindness was what ultimately brought them together.

That said, I do have a gripe about the enemies-to-lovers trope here--the physical attraction felt SO heavy and almost lustful at points through the first half of the book, and it wasn't until they started getting to know each other as friends that their relationship really shifted to include character-based attraction. I get it. They had to hate each other, but simultaneously... want each other? I just didn't love how it played out on-page, personally. I enjoyed it once better once we got past the halfway point!

Overall, though, I really enjoyed A Brewed Awakening (and want to experiment with some new recipes!) but I wouldn't say it's my favorite from Basham. I'm really looking forward to Pride & Practicality's release, though!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

This book gets ALL of the stars. I absolutely LOVED this book and it’s now one of my top 3 Pepper Basham reads and I have read pretty much all of her books except a couple and I’m reading those this summer.

First off, I adored Finn. I kept picturing actor Jake Stormoen in my head as I was reading and it was such fun! I would LOVE a movie version of this story with Jake as Finn! Who do we talk to about this?!?! The banter/snark between Finn & Daphne was on point and I was here for it! I also really loved the inclusion of Daphne’s brother with his disability as well as sweet little Lucy and hers. And then, the last few chapters-ALL the feels! I bawled and knowing Pepper’s personal experiences that contributed to the turn the story took, made it that much deeper. This book is exquisite. Pure and simple.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and also purchased my own Audible copy. I was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

This is a solid 3.5. Cute cozy small town romance between an English pub owner who hates tea and a small town American tea shop owner that loves all things British. They have a lot of push and pull and it’s easy to see from the beginning that they’ll end up together. Personally the hashtags in the beginning of chapters threw me off. The male and female narrators did a fantastic job , although I’ll still die on the hill that men should not do women voices esp children 😅🤣 Thanks so much to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for this ALC.

After reading this book I think I found a new favorite romcom author. This book transformed me into a new "hallmark" world with a fun witty story about a chef and a teashop owner. I am a sucker of witty comebacks, banter, and adding in social media posts at the beginning of the chapters. This book was not only a romcom but it also mentioned tops that I believe a lot of readers can related to. Having the relatable topics is something that I appreciate that authors include as it feels more real.

Charming, funny, and delightful, I loved it! I want to live in Wisteria. You do not want to miss this sweet enemies-to-lovers, and opposites-attract foodie rom-com set in the perfectly endearing small town.

Anglophile Daphne Austen, owner of Tea Thyme, meets the new owner of The Green Dragon Pub, and next door neighbor British Finn Dashwood while she is practically drooling over his English car (a Cabriolet like the one her grandma used to love). "There would come a day when she'd respond like a grown-up around handsome men. This was not that day." She's less than impressed with Finn despite his car.

Oh my goodness, the start of every chapter includes local town social media posts and hashtags that are a hoot!

A Brewed Awakening is about a town full of unforgettable characters, and main characters who have been through difficult losses, an adorable six-year-old daughter Lucy, highly entertaining banter, friendly competition, and lots of great food. Everyone in town pulls together during good times and difficult times. The author has created such a great place, I wasn't kidding when I said I'd like to live here, or spend a vacation here.

I highly recommend A Brewed Awakening for lovers of satisfying romantic comedy! Author Pepper Basham writes completely entertaining and delightful stories, and this latest one is wonderful.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson via Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.

A fun romance between two opposites set in a small Appalachian mountain town.
Contemporary romance fans will enjoy this one, full of witty banter between rival owners of eateries. The food references were droolworthy, they all sounded so good. Loved the funny 'tweets' from the community members that punctuated the story. There is a lot more going on beneath the surface of their back and forth escapades. Both main characters have had serious life experiences that they had to overcome and that continue to color their outlook on relationships. The addition of a sweet little girl brought out a tender side of both, complete with Disney princess references and songs. The plot turns a serious corner or two towards the end as a crisis brings the community together. The ending was less predictable than I'd imagined as a result and heartfelt. Definitely worth the wait.
Recommend to readers who enjoy a book with a clean romance and inspirational moments. 4.5 stars

It’s the battle of the Brits! Well, he’s a Brit. She loves all things British, except him. Kind of.

Confused yet? Welcome to Wisteria! It’s the town everyone longs for and where family is more than just blood.

Daphne Austin owns the local tea shop. Finn Dashwood is building a traditional English pub in the space next door. One loves tea. One loves coffee. One is striving for refined. One cooks a mean Bangers and Mash.

Both are carrying deep wounds, and clash from day one. When a celebrity wedding caterer drops out, getting the job becomes a competition. Will it drive them further apart, or will a collaboration pull them closer?

Filled with faith, hope and quirky characters, A Brewed Awakening is a true winner! Did I forget to mention swooney kisses and witty banter? Can’t leave that out!

Oh, and have a stack of napkins at the ready, because the food will get you drooling and the end will get the tears flowing.

I received an advance copy from the publisher. I’m under no obligation and my review has not been solicited. Very highly recommend!

This was my first Pepper Basham book, and I can tell she’s a really great writer. The plot concept was really cute: sweet, Southern, tea-loving girl and salty, British, coffee-loving pub owner slowly fall in love in a small North Carolina town. I really liked many aspects of it, and I liked the faith based worldview of it, too!

But I think as far romcoms go, this one was middle ground for me. There were a few things about it that weren’t my preference:

- The first 50% was mostly a bickering-flirt hybrid. I know some people really love the rivals/enemies vibes, but I think I’ve learned I get weary of it if it goes on too long.

- Though it picked up for me around the halfway point and I started to really get into it, the last 20% took a turn towards a heavier storyline that I wasn’t anticipating in this kind of romcom. The majority of the book didn’t match that tone, so it didn’t seem to fit well. The story was hopeful, which I appreciated, but when I pick up a romcom, I want something with minimal conflict and light content.

- This book was just a little too long and maybe tried to do too much. If this had been shorter and more consistent emotionally, I think it would have ranked higher for me.

This was still an enjoyable, entertaining read for me, nonetheless. I definitely plan to read more by Pepper, because I really enjoyed her writing and sense of humor!

I'm not as creative as the author with my hashtags but this was such a fun book. The social media conversation at the beginning of each chapter was my favorite. The characters melded so well with each other--Finn, Daphne and Lucy were so memorable. I loved how the community came together throughout the book with love, humor and support. The book made me want to get in the kitchen and cook but I may have gained some weight just from reading this book!

5+ stars
Completed: Apr. 25/26
Format: audio and digital ARC and now the paperback
Narrator: Ann Marie Gideon, Christopher Ashman - absolutely spot on!!

Challenge Prompt: ARoCF’s “a book with a pastel cover”

Book #40 of 2026: Let me be clear!!! This is not a regular romcom. I repeat, this is not a regular romcom. This is a romcom with (hold your breath!): community, family, second chances, starting over from nothing, snark, witty banter, swoon, hilariousness, confidence issues, physical impairments, snoopy neighbours, competition, tragedy, bravery/courage, food & beverages, parenting, matchmaking, heroism, sarcasm, senior wisdom, appreciation, hard work, embarrassment, sadness, group cooperation, and let’s throw in the kitchen sink. Or in this book’s case, sinks of all kinds, from all over Wisteria. (You’ll understand once you’ve read it.). Oh, and we cannot forget the hashtags for the survival of Wisteria’s merch store.

This novel brought out so many feelings. I laughed. A LOT. The snark, banter, and sarcasm are epic and snort-worthy. Then there is the other aspect that makes up of a regular romcom: the swooooooon of romance, the sparks of chemistry, the layers of two people who become magnets to one another.

BUT!!!!!!! (Notice the all caps!). Just when you think you know where the romcom is going, you find out you couldn’t be more wrong. Tragedy strikes. Chaos ensues. Breaths are held. And the tears fall.

This author is known for her uber-satisfying “Happily Ever Afters.” As the book dedication points out, she also experienced the devastation of Hurricane Helene first-hand. She draws on the sheer will and determination of her community (and beyond) to see the heroism inside of regular people. Such beauty shines through such profound loss. The bravery of the human spirit allows the HEA to still be there in the end, after all the tissues. The sun still rises. Life goes on.

I had no doubt this novel was going to be 5 stars long before I finished it. But I was wrong. This FAR-MORE-THAN-A-ROMCOM absolutely and unequivocally deserves 5+ stars. I reserve those for major impact reads.

I have some things to say to the publisher directly:
1. I personally believe this novel deserved a non-cartoonish cover, worthy and indicative of its content, value, and for the average age of those reading it.
2. Kudos on the Narrator picks. Absolutely spot on!
3. Please consider this for a series. The brother, the best friend, the seniors…. #SwoonIsNotSoonOver #DoNotSellASnortShort #GrannyDNeedsAGrampyB

I think I’ll stay in Wisteria for a while. If I could move there, I would. It’s what the world needs right now.

*** Huge thanks to Thomas Nelson and Net Galley for advance audio and digital copies. My rating and review is voluntary, honest, and in my own words. This novel releases May 05/26.

“It’s like——being near Daphne is . . . oxygen. I’m better around her. I want to make her laugh. I want to listen to her talk about scones or tea pairings or obscure Austen quotes and just . . . never stop listening.”

This rivals to more, opposites attract romance is full of witty banter, yearning, social media hashtags, supportive community members, gentle faith, and fantastic family. I absolutely adored this charming southern town and its wonderful citizens.

Daphne is sunny, witty, and kind. I loved her sense of humor, food (and drink) creativity, and her love of all things British. I loved Jack and Daphne together, what a wonderful brother/sister relationship. Their friendship, love, and support was incredible. Granny D, I would love a real life Granny D in my circle! I absolutely adored every interaction Daphne had with little Lucy! Lucy is perfectly adorable and I loved how secure she was in her father’s and the Father’s love. Finn is the quintessential British pub owner. He’s sarcastic, guarded, flirty, and cautious. I loved seeing how quickly he settled into the town and how strongly he wanted to stay. He was so determined to keep his heart from getting involved with Daphne. But, once he accepted that it already was he was all in and ready to win her trust and love. I loved Daphne and Finn’s pranks, sharing food creations, and of course event meal planning. Their connection, conversations, and attraction was amazing. And wow, those were some swoony kisses! I loved Finn and Lucy’s relationship. He is such a loving, supportive, protective father, which is so wonderful to see.

A few more quotes:
“Sometimes a prayer is all I’ve got left, lamb.”

“Are you trying to seduce me through baked goods, Miss Austen?” “What? No . . . absolutely not.” “Because it’s working.”

“We’re here to work, Mr. Dashwood. Not flirt.” “You say that like the two are mutually exclusive. I’m rather sure they mix beautifully. I always cook better when I’m inspired.”

“I want to do this, this life. With you. Every day.” “You already have it.” “And I plan to keep it up for as long as you’ll have me. In a till death do us part kind of way.”

What a charming, sweet and heartwarming book!

This is my first book by Pepper Basham and it won't be my last. I truly loved these characters, the small town setting and the romance between Daphne and Finn.

I would love to have breakfast at Daphne's tea shop and then pop over to Finn's pub for lunch. The author did an incredible job weaving the balance between rivals, enemies to lovers and friends in this story. I could truly believe that these two started off on the wrong foot but then grew to be friends that ended up as more. The way Finn trusted Daphne with his sweet daughter Lucy. Speaking of Lucy, what a strong little girl that has gone through medical issues, speech issues and now a new setting, she is resilient and I'm so glad she has Daphne to look up to now.

Daphne and her brother Jack's relationship is so authentic, and I love how they are there to support each other. Both Finn and Daphne have had loss, heartbreak and lots on their mind and they find both friendship in each other and discover how strong they truly are. Basham did a great job weaving faith into this story as well.

Warning: there is a major plot at the end that involves a natural disaster.

I love the premise of this book! Team Tea vs Team Pub (and unofficially coffee) we have a bit of a rivalry between the two main characters Daphne and Finn. I loved the banter between the two and even though they were competing they were willing to help one another out. I loved how the entire town was picking sides. I loved Finn’s daughter, Lucy. I loved the ending of the book with the whole town helping each other when tragedy strikes. I didn’t love the romantic relationship of Daphne and Finn that much to be honest. I thought it a bit juvenile and attraction centered. It was more than just attraction to be clear, they had some good conversations as well, but more every time they were together they just thought about kissing the other or ogling and I personally felt it a bit much. However, overall I liked the concept of the story and it is a clean romance.

Oh my! What a delightful story. From the first page, where Daphne falls embarrassingly in love with a British car to laugh out loud running commentary from social media hashtags to witty banter and catch-my-breath interactions between her and Finn, this story stole my heart.

Not only were Daphne and Finn a joy to watch and root for, but the cast of interesting townfolk often came close to stealing the show on several occasions. I absolutely loved Finn’s daughter and his relationship with her. Truthfully, Daphne was a goner the moment she saw them together even if it took her some time to realize it. Highly recommend.

Will there be a sequel starring Jack? Just asking for a friend.

Pepper Basham has hit this out of the park once again. It is books like A Brewed Awakening that make Pepper an instant read for me. It had the perfect balance of wit, swoon-worthy moments, southern charm, flirty banter, and so much more.

Finn has moved from across the pond to start over. Finn is a single father to his beautiful daughter, Lucy. Lucy was born with a cleft lip and palate and has undergone multiple surgeries to have it repaired. Finn is protective of all things Lucy.  So starting over in Wisteria, North Carolina, seems like the perfect idea. Setting up a restaurant next to the Tea shop seems like it should be a great idea.

After the death of her mother and grandma, Daphne is now the owner of Tea Thyme, the town's tea shop. When she meets her new neighbor Finn, who on paper seems like her dream guy, with her dream car and British accent to boot. But with her heart healing, she doesn’t want a flirty fling; she wants a relationship. The closer Daphne gets to Finn and his daughter Lucy, the more her heart gets involved.

This story was such a fun read. There is a social media thread that is shared throughout the story. The witty banter and hashtags are next-level genius. I loved all the meddling side characters who are rooting for this relationship to blossom. All while the two restaurant owners are in competition to land the wedding catering job.  I loved seeing the town come together to help each other out after the big storm.

This enemies-to-lovers romance was the perfect balance of all things swoonworthy with kisses only.

Another heartfelt small town romance from Pepper Basham! I loved the enemies to lovers plot, the feuding cafiene rivalry between a teashop owner and a coffee shop as they trade barbs while slowing falling in love. Both MCs had parents die from cancer and the MMC is a British single dad to a child with special needs (she has a cleft palate and speech impairment). Wholesome, sweet and perfect for fans of books like The Sunshine Teashop by Jaimie Admans. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

Did Not Finish

DNF 17% - I’m pretty disappointed by this one because I really liked the other book I’ve read from this author. But the characters are not grabbing me at all. I feel impatient with our female protagonist and the way Daphne and Finn are thinking about each other in their internal monologues is particularly grating to me. So instead of forcing myself to finish this one, I’m just going to set it to the side.
