"A wonderful book that honors the spirit of my dear friend Stephen 'tWitch' Boss and his beautiful family. It will make you want to get up and dance." –Ellen DeGeneres
This is a cute picture book with the Boss family mantra repeated frequently: "I'm strong, smart and kind. I've got beats around me too. Take some deep breaths in and out, and I'll keep dancing through."
The book almost felt like a song to me, which is particularly appropriate since the Boss family just wants to "Keep Dancing Through."
One of my favorite memories from my teenage years is watching tWitch on The Wade Robson Project with my mom. I had followed his career since, as well as Allison's from the time she was a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance. I was devastated when Stephen died, and I couldn't pre-order this book fast enough when I heard it was coming out. It finally arrived today and I dropped everything to read my signed copy immediately. The illustrations are adorable, and such a beautiful reminder of everything I loved about their social media presence when Stephen was alive. Allison has done an incredible job of supporting her children and maintaining that presence since his passing, and I'm thrilled to have a copy of this book to keep.
Cute and bittersweet picture book with an uplifting message of "dancing through" life's challenges. In other words, choose joy, kindness and support of those around you rather than relying on violence or other angry actions.
Keep Dancing Through A Boss Family Groove is the first picture book by celebrity dancer and TV personality Allison Holker Boss and her late husband Stephen “tWitch” Boss. The story follows Mom, Dad, Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia as they groove through the ups and downs of a typical day, from spilled milk at the breakfast table to a tough day at school to a rained-out game. The book is a heartfelt celebration of family and positive affirmation.
Keep Dancing Through reads like a song. The story has a flow and a rhythm, like lyrics, which is excellent. Kids will love reading the refrains. The story addresses the hard times kids face head-on, giving kids positive coping strategies. It’s light and inspiring as the children in the book face different obstacles and turn to positive affirmations to get them through or encourage them to move forward to be their strongest versions. I would love to see a companion workbook to go along with the picture book, a guide for kids (and adults) to use that asks, "Here's how we do it," and “What's your mantra?" Keep Dancing Through is an excellent reminder of the power of dance and the importance of spreading love and kindness with every song.
3.25 stars. This book depicts the Boss family's motto which is to just keep dancing through life no matter what. Dancing can get you through any situation. Overall, the book has an upbeat message along with stellar illustrations.
I mainly read this because I love Twitch but sadly, this one fell flat for me. The rhythm wasn't there which is interesting considering it's a picture book about dancing but there just wasn't a nice flow to the story. It felt very clunky for a children's book.
Just a very cute children’s book written by Allison and Steven Boss. I thought it would be a little longer and be a bit more centered around dancing. It was more of a slice of life story about, what I’m sure was, a typical day for their family. It was very sweet.
Not exactly sure what I was expecting but it wasn't really this. I liked the family mantra and the illustrations were really good. Just not the kid's story I was looking for.
A slice of life story into one families daily happenings. This is based on the boss family, a real family in L.A. Both parents are professional dancers. The father was the DJ and the Ellen show (which I miss).
We see their routines. During their day, we see the children meet some sort of adversity and we see how they handle it. They let themselves feel the emotion and then they dance and find a way to keep going. Rhythm is always in their lives.
I love how the story has this beat going through it, a constant refrain through the beat. They really are a dancing family. It's fun to see. It's neat there is such a family.
A wonderful book in its own right with the positive message to keep on dancing through anything - good or bad or disappointing or happy. Especially poignant now with the passing of Twitch.
What an outstanding legacy to the joy he brought to everyone's life with his dancing and performance and personality. A tribute to a fantastic person and family man that we will all forever miss.
Thank you to Allison and the family for sharing this piece of Stephen's legacy with the world.
I enjoyed this story about the family dancing together. I pray this memory will always be with his children. I'm sorry, "Twitch" didn't know how much he was loved and appreciated. May his children and wife keep his legacy alive.
