I’m forced to marry the alpha king. But then he rejects me in front of everyone. So I have his baby in secret… And years later, he wants me back.
I’ve spent my whole life in my sister’s shadow- quiet, obedient, and overlooked. She’s arranged to be married to the alpha king. But when my sister runs away before the ceremony… My family forces me to take her place.
But I despise Aiden Blackwood. He’s an arrogant jerk who avoids me like the plague. And now he’s my husband.
Our wedding night ignites into delicious hours of passion. But the next morning, Aiden realizes who I am. I’m not my perfect sister.
He thinks the switch was my idea…and that I lied to him. He publicly rejects me, and I’m surprised by how much it hurts. “I reject all bonds to you. You are nothing to me now.”
Still, this is my chance to escape my family’s schemes. I run far away… But soon I realize I’m pregnant.
After three years of raising his baby in secret, Aiden reappears in my life. He’s a completely different a tortured, lovesick, spiraling alpha who’ll do anything to get me back.
But will any amount of groveling heal me from his rejection? Do we have a future together… or only a broken past?
H is engaged to OW aka h’s sister. H and h don’t really like each other, except they do. 🙃 They have some attraction for each other. We can tell from H’s POV, they are probably fated mates.
h’s parents are garbage. h is a good character because she fights for her independence, and she is no doormat.
The day of the wedding, the OW (h’s sister) takes off. The parents make h hide in her place behind the wedding veil, and marry H. (This is all a little hard to believe) H marries h, and they take off the go shag. She’s a V. She leaves the veil on😂 AND from H’s POV, we know he thinks something isn’t right because he feels a strong connection to his partner even though he didn’t feel that way before about OW. He goes to shower and when he comes out, h decides to come clean about her parents’ deception. They both know now they are fated mates.
Well……. H flips out and loses his 💩 he is so angry. He calls his whole pack to the throne room and has h escorted in. Then he absolutely rips her to shreds with his words. It was so heartbreaking that even his BFF was telling him not to do this. I have major respect for h because she stood toe-to-toe with him even though she was in so much pain. He finally rejects her, then banishes her from the pack. She basically leaves with very little.
So, for a big chunk of this book, it deals with the MCs being separated and what they go through. H is having a hard time holding his life together. He has lost the respect of his people, BFF, and his mom. H has been looking for h for 3 years. During those 3 years, h has had a rough time. She found out she was pregnant. Lives in slums and can barely keep a job. Then she has a baby, and she’s still struggling.
h is at the end of her rope and gets threatened. She calls H’s BFF, and he sends for them.
Finally, H and h reunite. It’s a bunch of back and forth. It’s not until like 83% he finds out about the kid. Naturally, he’s angry, but they do move in with him. Eventually, they have smex again and the knot forms. Yay! They are bonded again 😩
The final showdown is with h’s crazy mom. The explanation on why mom did not like her daughter just didn’t make sense.
I wish the book had spent less time on what they did during their 3 years separation and spent more time on some of the other plots. What happened to h’s dad? No comeuppance for him? Why did they want h to pretend to be OW? Did they not think he was eventually going to find out? Why didn’t H banish her parents? Why did H let OW come back after 3 years and walk around pretending like she was Luna? Why was the grovel so weak when the author made h a strong character? How is the little girl 3, but she’s able to talk like she’s way older? What was the deal with the rogues threatening h? How did they find her, but H wasn’t able to?
Have you ever read a book and when 90% hits you’re like wait…why isn’t this wrapping up? And then something big happens but they’ve gotta end the story soon so they condense the big development? Yeah that was this book. I also didn’t like Aiden the MMC. I thought he was weak. Vivian gave in too easily.
This is actually a 2.5. One star off for all the repeating sections. You'd be reading and suddenly rereading a paragraph. One star off for all the tropes I dislike: enemies to lovers mean to you because I secretly love you pregnant after first time cruel MMC secret baby (that's a toddler) years of separation body betrayal syndrome office sex
But mostly, it was the setting of the book and the large plot holes. Apparently this takes place in NYC. At least everyone keeps talking about New York. Maybe they mean New York the state, because I am unaware of a place in NYC that backs a huge forest where werewolves can run free in wolf form for miles. Central Park is big, but I don't think it's that big. There's also mention of the Bratva, so likely NYC? Trying to figure it out kept pulling me out of the story. Maybe the authors meant upstate New York? I have no idea. However, the h does go to upstate New York later to work as an interior designer. Basically, I didn't really like this story. H and h hate each other. She's forced to pretend to be her perfect sister who had disappeared the night before the wedding to H (the alpha king) and during consummation, they realize they are mates. However, h had worn her veil the whole time and when H realizes it, he kicks her out wearing only a sheet. He does go get her, but then drags her before the council the next morning. She hasn't cleaned up and is only wearing a t-shirt. He then proceeds to reject her as his mate in front of everyone, yell at her, humiliate her, and then kicks her out. She calls her grandma and gets help disappearing. This is where the holes began to appear. h wants to be an interior designer. She learns after leaving this a**hole that her application to a top designer firm in upstate New York. So she goes and works there. Meanwhile, H has finally pulled his head out of his butt and is trying to find her. But doesn't think to check at the business she had told him she wanted to work for? Apparently, she changed her last name and that means she disappears. Except later, she finds out she's pregnant and flees this cushy job to LA where she can't find work because she left her old job in the middle of a project. But, Alpha King with is vast resources still can't find her. Also, he does NOTHING to her parents. Who forced her to go through with the deception. Oh, he pulls back on deals with them (apparently alpha kings have to rent warriors?), but they are not punished for the crime. Seriously! He does nothing to them! Not even some jail time! So I official hate him.
Her grandma keeps in touch with h, offering to hide her, but h refuses because she didn't want to get Nana in trouble. So is Nana making it hard to find h? Use some money and get a new identity, chica. Anyway, four years go by and h is being threatened by rogue wolves in LA (sorry, that made me chuckle) and so she reaches out to her best friend and H's right hand man, Cain. Back to NYC and a high rise apartment that still somehow backs a forest. Anyway, it's... fine. Sorsha comes back (Nana was hiding her too, so she's not the bad guy? Does Sorsha have her own book?) and the parents want H to marry her. He refuses (finally!), but it's still not over. I did like that his right hand man and his mom were not putting up with his crap and called him out on it. Until h came back and Cain was suddenly trying to get them back together. Nuh huh! He needed to grovel a lot more! Anyway, he finds out she's back and then literally one chapter later she is letting him finger her in public. UGH! Come on, girl! Then he keeps hurting her over and over. I am just so done with this. Something, something with her parents. They are the baddies, big shock. Sorsha is not a baddy? What? HEA.

I really enjoyed this up until about 50%. It was great all the way through the brutal rejection (man that hurt), but then the author lost the plot. We begin seeing repeated paragraphs, contradictions within chapters, character inconsistencies and sometimes it seemed like I was actually reading another book all together. The H doesn’t have a knot and then he suddenly does!
Cain - the BFF was the actual H of this story and boy did I wish he had somehow ended up Alpha. He seemed more Alpha then beta. The actual alpha Aiden was extremely weak and not all that bright. He pissed me off though because he could have given her money or done more to help her, also he pushed them together in the end I didn’t appreciate that…
Nana- she is actually to blame, if she had just brought the sisters together things may have been resolved much quicker
Sorcha - the ow sister- I liked that she turned out good but couldn’t understand why she didn’t just refuse to marry Aiden and tell him WHY…
Vivian- the h, needs a snack upside the head…the ending was so rushed she insta forgives and there’s no angst after they are reunited, so anticlimactic
Also so much unnecessary narrative, this could have been 100 pages less. Also the world building is so odd. He’s a King but doesn’t act like it, nobody treats him like it, so he’s….what? Not really even an Alpha as no one calls him Alpha. He’s more like a Governor.
Loved the beginning, bored by the ending.

Honestly I am conflicted about this review because the book was so engaging and it pulled me in early. Aiden and Vivian’s story had many twists and turns before their HEA that kept the book interesting. As the book progressed small things were not adding up or seemed implausible. Paragraphs would repeat themselves but written slightly differently, as if they were edits that made their way into the book. The word “grounding” was also overused. The book became a little uneven in spots especially halfway through.
The main characters had chemistry right from the start. I loved the way they interacted and how sassy Vivian was. Aidan, as an Alpha, seemed a bit weak to me at times not to mention immature. I struggled with the mate bond between he and Vivian. They didn’t seem to be able to communicate through it , even at the end. Their wolves were not in sync. Aiden as an Alpha Lycan King didn’t appear to have the physical and mental strength and power I have read in other books, so that was different for me.
As a whole I liked the story and the author’s writing style. If you are looking for a spicy read this checks that box in spades. The book could easily be 5 stars with better editing and I would read another of the author’s books.
He's to marry her sister but ends up with her, the unsuitable one. He rejects and banished her but immediately regrets his actions but she has disappeared. Four years later she's back with his child and then things become clear.
I loved Vivian!! I loved her fire, her drive and her uniqueness. Aiden was a jerk but he came around in the end. Their chemistry was great. The storyline was intriguing and entertaining. While I really enjoyed the book, the writing was all over the place. Timelines didn't alway match up and whole paragraphs were repeated in a few chapters. Other than that it was a great read.
