My first read from this author was a slow start but got interesting. Laura can't remember what happened to her she was covered in blood. With the help of a psychologist, Emma, will she find the answers?There's lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing. My rating is 3.5 rounded to 4 as I would have liked to be a faster paced read.....

An intense pace and everything was explained. I just had issues with the psychiatric ward and how they allowed that to happen. I know it’s fiction and it made sense, but it just made me uncomfortable.

Nota sinceră ar fi fost 3,5⭐. Povestea per total este interesantă, dar i-a lipsit ceva. Poate are prea multe detalii care să te facă să mergi neapărat pe o pistă falsă. Am început să intuiesc finalul undeva pe la 3/4 din carte și recunosc că a fost unul inteligent, dar parcă și el a fost prezentat într-un mod rudimentar.
În plus, pe tot parcursul cărții ne-am învârtit în cerc, iar informațiile noi veneau destul de lent.
Până la urmă, cred că de vina a fost stilul de scriere, nu ideea în sine. Așa că decid să o recomand totuși, poate alții o vor simți mult mai închegată.

4.5 stars! Laura Winters was found alone, soaked in somebody else’s blood. She doesn’t remember what happened or why she has lost her memory. The only thing she is certain of is that the only psychologist she can talk to is Emma Best. Emma has just six days to unlock Laura’s memories to find out the truth.
This thriller was a complete mindfuck and I love that! It had a cleverly crafted plot which I loved. My only criticism is that I found the pace a little slow at the very start, but the intrigue of the situation kept me invested. By the time I got to the last 55% of the book, I was racing through it and could barely put it down! I really really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it!

✨ Gostei muito deste livro. Adorei ver a evolução da investigação psicológica, todos o plano terapêutico. Este livro aborda temas como violência doméstica, saúde mental e conduta profissional.
✨ Desde o primeiro momento, a autora conseguiu incutir uma atmosfera sombria, fria e claustrofóbica, que me agarrou logo. Sabem aquela sensação que algo está mal, mesmo mal, e só queremos descobrir o que é? E o final ..aí o final, e aí o epílogo!!Fiquei pasma!

3,5*, dar nerotunjite la 4* pentru că nu mi-a plăcut finalul dpdv moral.
Nu știu ce să spun fără să dau spoilere, deci o să mă rezum doar la câteva idei.
Lucrurile au fost foarte previzibile și aici includ și epilogul.
Am în minte un alt titlu care a făcut mai bine ceea ce a încercat autoarea aici.
Sunt chestii forțate de dragul poveștii, căci cartea merge pe o idee curajoasă și provocatoare, care-i strică credibilitatea.
Totuși, m-am simțit antrenată-n acțiune și m-a prins încă de la început, deci pot spune că e destul de captivantă.
Un alt plus este și faptul că mi-am tot făcut teorii și-am încercat să rezolv misterul înainte de a o face autoarea.

The Woman in Ward 9 by Naomi Williams offers a gripping, if at times unsettling, look into the lives within a psychiatric ward. The author masterfully crafts a tense atmosphere, where the lines between sanity and delusion blur for both the patients and the reader. The character development, particularly of the 'woman,' is compelling, drawing you deeper into her complex world. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release.

This was a well written book that commenced with an intriguing prologue that had me racing to uncover what had happened. I thought the start was a little slow, but the pace soon fastened with each turn of the page.
Whilst emitting slight The Silent Patient vibes, this book was still unique in its own way. I found this book very predictable though, and although I hadn’t sussed out how it would be achieved, I did crack what would happen quite early on. Perhaps I’ve read too many thrillers? 🤣
I wasn’t a fan of the characters as they were just so annoying, but I think this was Williams’ purpose, and it worked well in this read. I just didn’t know who to trust or who had an ulterior motive.
I liked the fragments of the past scattered in throughout to help drive the story and how everything came head to head at the end. Overall, this was a decent read that I devoured in a few sittings.

I loved the going back and forth between the present and past thoughts… I found it interesting that Emma found similarities to Laura the more they spoke…
It felt like the book was packed full of secrets, and I wasn’t sure who to trust. The psychiatric unit, the staff and the rules all felt bizarre and added to the suspense and mystery that was forming as the story went on.
Such a clever story, I was hooked from the start and struggled to put it down. That ending, OMG!

Se querem um bom thriller psicológico, escolham este livro!
Fiquei agarrada desde as primeiras páginas.
Uma mulher é encontrada em sua casa, toda ensanguentada mas sem qualquer ferimento. De quem é aquele sangue todo e como é que foi parar naquela mulher que não se lembra de absolutamente nada?
Emma, uma psicóloga experiente em casos de violência doméstica, encontra-se numa instituição psiquiátrica para levar Laura a lembrar-se de como foi ali parar.
Todo o ambiente da instituição é claustrofóbico e durante a leitura fui acompanhando todas as reações da paciente e psicóloga com bastante ansiedade.
Há várias questões que são levantadas durante a história e há alguns saltos ao passado que ainda me provocaram mais dúvidas e inquietação.
A autora inclui umas informações relacionadas com algumas personagens secundárias que, no meu entender, eram escusadas.
Esta história também revela que há pessoas boas que em determinadas circunstâncias têm de tomar opções que infelizmente prejudicam o outro.
O final é surpreendente e fez-me refletir acerca das relações que vamos estabelendo ao longo da vida.

What a wild ride! Part of the way through I did start to question if Emma was being Shutter Island-ed. After the twist I was thinking that it didn’t make sense how much Laura knew about Connor and Emma’s relationship and then that final chapter hit! I do wonder if Laura is going to be caught though because Emma finally remembers what happened but maybe no one takes anything that she says seriously anymore so she’ll be in a mental hospital for a murder she didn’t commit for the rest of her life.

Sincer, pe mine m-a dezgustat povestea. Sunt satula de carti-cliseu in care unul dintre parteneri inseala si e omorat de amant/a si vina cade pe sot/sotie. Nu vreau sa intru in detalii, am terminat cartea acum 2 saptamani dar nu am apucat sa scriu nici o recenzie pana acum si poate ca e mai bine asa.
Sa fii de partea amantei care baga in inchisoare o femeie nevinovata, dupa ce a trait cu un abuzator ani de zile si sa ii si dai dreptate… ca autor cred ca ori ai probleme psihologice ori scrii din postura de (ex)amanta… Probabil de-aia rezoneaza cu amanta si e de acord cu un asemenea final. Povestea cu barbat neinteles, “casnicia s-a terminat” dar am xxxx motive pt care nu pot inca sa divortez…bla bla bla….ca femeie care se vrea inteligenta, cu cariera, Laura…esti cam proasta. Disperarea asta de a te casatori e de secolul trecut. Nu se mai justifica in ziua de azi sa accepti orice doar-doar ramane cu tine… Ma infurie femeile de genul asta.
Alt aspect care mi se pare ireal: oricat de bun psihopat narcisist esti, Laura, nu pot sa cred ca intr-un centru plin de psihologi si psihiatrii chiar nu se prinde nimeni cum esti in realitate…experimentul nu numai ca nu este legal dar este si stupid…
Si replica de final “Nu merita nimic din toate astea. Dar, ce-I drept, nici eu nu meritam.” Ba da Noemi (pardon, Laura) tu meritai….sa stii ca e insurat si sa continui in prostie cand ai toate optiunile sa iti faci viata pe care ti-o doresti si sa fii fericita…asta e prostie curata.

I knew from chapter one that I was going to love this book. Straight in at the deep end Laura has found herself in Ward 9, a psychiatric unit after waking on her kitchen floor covered in blood that wasn’t hers. With no recollection of what happened or who the blood belongs to, she must undergo a strict six day therapy session with psychologist Emma to hopefully unlock her memory. Laura a psychologist herself has specifically requested Emma to undertake the sessions. As the lines begin to blur between reality and her patient, Emma becomes increasingly concerned about everything going on at Heaton Park institution.
This was a great read, although I figured out the ‘twist’ early on that didn’t take away from the story as a whole and was a fab psychological thriller.

I really enjoyed this book—even though I predicted the ending quite early. It’s a fast-paced, easy read with enough tension and short chapters to keep you turning pages. It’s not the kind of thriller that shocks you with every twist, but it delivers a satisfying, well-structured story that’s hard to put down once you get into it.
That said, I can understand why some readers felt it required a bit of suspension of disbelief—especially when it comes to the portrayal of the secure facility and the therapy methods.
Overall, even if it’s not groundbreaking, it’s a solid psychological thriller. If you’re in the mood for something accessible, engaging, and atmospheric (even if a little predictable), I definitely recommend it.

OH. MY. GOD! This is one of those books that makes you rewind all the scenes in your head to re-live them with fresh eyes and then you go OH YES!! Fuck. What a thriller. Claustrophobic and twisty and shocking. I’d love to see this one as a TV drama. FIVE STARS and then some.
