Hometown Rebound: A Brookhaven Holiday Novella

Rate this book
She thought it could be a rebound—until he felt like home.

After the tragic loss of his wife, Beckett Forrester has spent the last six years attempting to maintain a quiet life and keep the inn afloat, all while having his heart under lock and key. As far as Beckett is concerned, he’s closed the door on love.

Until she walked in.

Fresh off a breakup, Ari Williams goes back to her hometown of Brookhaven in desperate need of a holiday escape. What she didn’t expect was to be faced with the world's grumpiest—and most handsome—innkeeper.

The longer Ari remains in Brookhaven, the more the lines blur between grief, hope, and attraction. As snowflakes fall and sparks fly, Beckett is forced to choose between the past he’s clung to and a future he never could have expected.

I received this arc and this is my honest opinion.
This story is about Ari, who after the breakup with her boyfriend she goes back to her hometown for the holidays, and Beckett, a resident of the small town who after 6 years is still grieving his late wife. Until they meet each other. Their first encounter was somewhat hostile but then we watch them to their journey of hea.
I give this story a 3.5 stars because even though the story was interesting it left me quite unsatisfied. The reason? I wanted more. More depth, more character insight, more relationship building, more interaction with the side characters. I loved the two characters but it had the potential for more. I believe the fact that it's a novella and not a full length novel is a minus for the overall story as it didn't have the space to unfold in its full glory. Again, I really really feel it had the potential to be perfect.

Maybe I'm in my scrooge era, y'all. 😭

I'm dnf-ing this Christmas novella at 45%. The dialogue is lacking, the writing style isn't for me, the MMC isn't just grumpy - he's actually miserable and I don't care for his outbursts. I don't see how the chemistry comes about for these two based on the time I've been reading, the time left in the book, and how shitty he's acted towards our MFC.

Ugh. I'm so excited for the Christmas reads I've got lined up for this season, but they haven't been hitting. Maybe I'm the problem? 😭

Holiday novella
Tension/banter
Slow burn

This was fast paced, a short novella, l but really interesting! Also having hilarious heart warming characters and moments! I absolutely loved the feel of the small town and the people that lived in it! It definitely made me want to visit.
I loved the chemistry between Ari and Beckett and the way they both healed alittle of eachother without trying or realizing it! I love Becketts story and the way his community showed up for him. Supporting him.
Loved how fierce Ari was played out to be and how strong, going back to a place you never seen yourself at again is definitely something that isn't easy, however she did it and didn't even want to leave!! Loved her growth. Loved the spice, and that moment in the car ❤️‍🔥Lots of cute emotional moments such a cute holiday romance that gave me all the feels.

Ari Williams is a girl from a small town that left and never looked back after graduation. But this holiday season she is back home in Brookhaven after her holiday plans took a turn.

Beckett Forrester is a widowed man running the inn he and his late wife started in Brookhaven. He was asked to watch his neighbors home while they are away for the holidays.

Beckett needs help and Ari is the only one that can do it. Will Beckett let her help or will he push her away like everyone else?

Danielle Sarah did a great job with this book. It’s a short read but it’s full of laughter and spice. It’s a holiday romance that I like and I don’t usually like holiday romance books.

I received this ARC and my review is my honest opinion.

I actually really enjoyed this book, despite it not being my normal genre. The author crafts a perfect balance between grief, hope and spice. I enjoyed the pace of the story, nothing felt stagnant. I really liked the characters and the charm of Brookhaven. I am looking forward to the upcoming continued series and hopefully hearing more about Beckett and Ari.

Review:
Okay, when I tell you I fucking DEVOURED this book, I'm not kidding. From page one to the end I was absolutely obsessed, the small town of Brookhaven sounds like the most beautiful place ever. I would kill to move there and spend the rest of my days with the amazing residents of Brookhaven. They're all such incredible people, but, let's focus on my favourite two, the loveable Beckett and Ariella. They were truly perfect together, in every way possible.

Beckett's story absolutely broke my heart, that man's strength was something else entirely, and I love everything about him. Especially his grumpy exterior. But watching him become a happier and slightly grumpy man, was such an incredible experience. Ari really was exactly what he needed, she healed every part of him, and gave him a reason to live again by simply existing in his, and I think there's truly something beautiful in that. A love like that is one of the best kinds in my opinion. Ariella was such an incredible character, I absolutely loved her, especially how she stepped up to help Beckett, with a lot more than she could ever realise. They truly were the perfect, the definition of "meant to be".

As expected, the spice was absolutely exceptional, that first moment between them in his car? Iconic!! We love a man like Beckett, in every way. But more than that, Danielle will never let you down when it comes to spice. She truly did an incredible job with this book, It was such an incredible storyline, and the characters were so easy to fall in love with, even the side characters. Every second of this book was truly amazing, it's the perfect christmas read and I cannot recommend it enough.

As soon as I saw a social media post about this novella I wanted to read it! I'm new to this author's work and couldn't wait to pick this up. I headed right into the world of Brookhaven. I so enjoyed this story!

Beckett and Ari's journey captured my attention so quickly! Ari is getting over a break up which leads her back to Brookhaven. Beckett's an inn owner in Brookhaven and he's a grieving widower. As these two collide, can they open their hearts to each other? and could this Christmas be so much more?

Ari and Beckett had me feeling so much with them throughout! They were both tackling things in their lives and showed such realness throughout. I enjoyed how Brookhaven brought Beckett and Ari together. The chemistry between these two was good!

I so enjoyed being in Brookhaven for the first time.

With Hometown Rebound, Ms.Sarah has created such a good holiday romance that brought realness that gets right to the heart, love after loss, spice, and grumpy x sunshine! Beckett and Ari's journey had me going through a lot of emotions! I enjoyed how this author touched on real topics with this story. I'm so looking forward to picking up more of this author's work! 💙❄🎄

Hometown Rebound is a Brookhaven Holiday novella written by Danielle Sarah. This is my first book by this author.

Hometown Rebound stars Ari and Beckett. Ari, fresh out of a relationship that she thought was heading to marriage, returns to her hometown of Brookhaven to spend the holidays. A startling encounter with a handsome grump was something she was not expecting. The grump in question - Beckett. Beckett, a local innkeeper, tries his hardest to maintain a quiet life after the tragic loss of his wife six years ago. What starts as a rather hostile encounter leads to an unlikely pairing.

This novella is fast-paced, so the relationship develops quickly, even after the hostility toward the FMC. If the book were a little longer and had more time to develop the characters, and the relationship progressed at a slower pace, I would have liked it a bit more. It was a fun read if you are looking for a palate cleanser or a quick holiday read.

Thanks to Danielle Sarah for gifting me an eARC of Hometown Rebound. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hometown Rebound felt like the kind of story you slip into without even realizing it. I connected right away with the main character’s mix of frustration, hope, and that uneasy feeling of going back to a place filled with old memories. Danielle Sarah really captured what it’s like to return home and wonder if you’ve changed enough—or if the past is still waiting for you.

I found myself rooting for the characters, especially as they tried to rebuild trust and figure out what they really wanted this time around. Their chemistry felt natural, not forced, and I liked how their relationship had that real-life messiness but also so much heart. The small-town setting made it even better—cozy, familiar, and full of those little moments that make you smile.

Overall, the book gave me that warm, hopeful feeling I look for in a second-chance romance. It wasn’t perfect, but it was honest, sweet, and emotional in a way that stuck with me after I finished. A solid, feel-good read about healing, love, and finding your way back.

Hometown Rebound: A Brookhaven Holiday Novella | [author:Danielle Sarah|36295688

🖤🖤🖤🖤/5

Hometown Rebound by Danielle Sarah is a sweet holiday morsel that’s sitting at the top of my nice list.

Fresh off a breakup, Ari heads back to her hometown of Brookhaven for the holidays, only to crash headfirst into Beckett, the grumpiest (and, obviously, hottest) innkeeper this side of a Hallmark movie filmed in a snow globe. He’s been keeping his heart padlocked since losing his wife six years ago, fully convinced Cupid has revoked his lifetime membership. But then Ari walks in, and suddenly the universe starts rearranging the furniture.

What I adored most was the authenticity. That bittersweet, gut-punch feeling of going home after a heartbreak…wondering if you’ve changed at all or if the town will greet you like you’re still 17, telling people to "smell ya lata". Danielle nails it. And watching Ari and Beckett navigate grief, hope, and an attraction that’s absolutely not asking permission was delicious.

The bond between these two is perfectly messy in the human way, tender in the holiday-movie way, and full of so much heart I could hear sleigh bells. There is no shortage of small-town nostalgia or cozy holiday vibes here. It’s like someone lit a sugarplum candle and whispered, “heal, babe.” And for a quick read, this one delivers the feels of full-length romance.

Tropes I inhaled:

🎄Holiday vibes
🏘️ Small town homecoming
😠 Grumpy/Sunshine
💗 Love after loss
💬Tension & banter

If you’re craving healing, heart, and holiday magic, consider this your sign. Hometown Rebound hits shelves November 21, 2025. Thank you to Danielle Sarah for the opportunity to read and relish this book. ✨

Ari & Beckett meet when Ari returns home to surprise her parents for Christmas after a relationship breakdown. Discovering the house dark & quiet, & her parents at the airport, Beckett nearly runs into her as she stands in the road. After some words were exchanged, Ari heads into her parents house. Not exactly a meet cute 😂

Beckett has so many walls up, & for good reason. Christmas isn’t a good time of year for him. He’s struggling to come to terms with the loss of his wife many years ago, & trying to keep their dream of running an inn going is taking its toll.

When the local coffee shop owner suggests Ari help Beckett turn his business around, neither of them are happy about it! Beckett is very reluctant, but for a very different reason to Ari. To her; he’s the grump who lives next door to her parents. For him, she’s the one who’s starting to thaw his heart.

This is a cozy, festive, small town novella with grumpy/sunshine, tension, grief & healing - & poor Beckett finishing in his pants 😂

ARC Review

This is my honest and my own opinion review!

Hometown Rebound was a really cute and quick read. It was always a great lighter read for the holiday season. I honestly cannot wait for the next Brookhaven book.

Ari heads home after her break up with her now ex-boyfriend. After being together for years she thought there was more for them but she soon found out there was not. Heartbroken she heads back home to Brookhaven. She didn't realize just how much she needed to be home and away from the city.

Beckett is grieving the loss of his wife. He seems miserable and unhappy. He always seems rude. Holidays don't make him happy. He owns a Breakfast and Bed in Brookhaven. It is falling apart and he can't seem to catch a break. But then Ari comes in.

Ari is a sweet but strong FMC. She is funny, kind, and helpful. Beckett is a hot MMC even when he is miserable. He's grieving. Beckett is also funny and caring even when he seems like he is not. I give it a 5 star and a 4 jalapeno because the spice was spicing!

I am so beyond happy I got to start off my seasonal reading with this story! I got my hands on this one a little early and it was sooooo good!!!
It is the perfect mix of the stereotypical Hallmark small town on the shoreline with the inn that's in trouble but then you add in some STEAM!!! I absolutely adore Hallmark movies but I have always wanted just a bit more romance or just something to make them less cheesy....well this is it!!
I won't give it all away because with the Hallmark theme it would all be very easily guessed but I will say that it was VERY good and the steam was exactly what this book needs to make it a memorable Christmas romance!
This one isn't just steam though, it actually managed to make me cry at least twice. Not sobbing but definitely tearing up and relating to the main characters. The storyline was also engaging and the humor between Ari and Beckett had me laughing out loud multiple times.
Again, a perfect start to my list of holiday reads!!!

This holiday romance has all the makings of a Hallmark movie with the perfect amount of spice added in! I absolutely love small town holiday stories; there’s just something about a tight-knit community getting together and the whole town is decorated that makes it that much more appealing to read.

Ari was supposed to be spending the holidays in Paris but after her boyfriend breaks up with her right before they’re supposed to leave, she decides to go back to her hometown instead. She hasn’t been back since she left for college years ago. Meanwhile, Beckett is a widow who avoids the holidays like the plague but once he meets Ari, that slowly starts to change. Neither is looking for romance but there is an instant attraction between them. I love their witty banter and there are several spicy scenes packed into this novella! I’m not ready to leave Brookhaven yet and was excited to see there are more stories to come from this quaint town and its wonderful residents!

Small town? Check.
Holiday read? Check.
A novella with an emotional backstory and great characters? Check and check.

I was recommended this book for my December reading challenge, and I am so happy that I was! Not only could I relate to the small-town setting in Nova Scotia (because I am from, and currently live in, a small town in Nova Scotia), but it truly felt like I could picture the story unfolding right where I live with the sense of community, the return to a slower pace, and the unpredictability of winter winds and snow. It all felt like home.

If you’re looking for an easy holiday read, don’t hesitate to dive into Ari and Beckett’s story. It had the perfect amount of detail and just the right touch of spice. The pacing was great, and the side characters were so fun (I can’t wait to read about Liv!). Danielle is a new-to-me author, but I’ll definitely be checking out more of her books and I can’t wait to read Book 2 of the Brookhaven series.

100% recommend!

I was lucky enough to read an ARC of Hometown Rebound, and wow—this book completely stole my heart. Danielle Sarah nails the small-town romance vibe perfectly. The chemistry, the charm, the swoon-worthy moments… everything just fit together so beautifully.
The characters felt real and easy to connect with, and the story had the perfect mix of emotional depth and light, feel-good moments. I found myself genuinely rooting for the characters from the very first chapters.
This was such a warm, comforting contemporary romance, and I’m so excited for everyone to get their hands on it when it releases. If you love small-town settings, second-chance vibes, or romances that make you smile at your Kindle like an idiot, add this one to your TBR ASAP. 💕
Huge thank you to the author for the ARC—I absolutely loved it!

Beckett & Ari’s story is so sweet and heartwarming. I love that Ari returns to her hometown seeking escape and finds something completely different instead. I adore Beckett’s character development and honest realization about moving forward to opportunities for his future instead of living in the past. This is a faster paced novel so things happen more quickly, not drawing out scenes and scenarios with tons of small details, but it still puts warm fuzzies in my heart with development of second loves, love after loss, and hope for the future. Heartwarming, sweet, and uplifting, you’ll be glad you read this one!

“I came to Brookhaven seeking an escape, and I feel as though I found myself instead.”
“I never thought I would feel that way again, but maybe this is the universe’s way of telling me that I need to live in the moment. That it’s ok to let go & move on.”

This book came with all the elements I need. Small town, grumpy MMC, romance, and holidays. I find that these always make for a good book. And this was on point. Ari is headed home for the holidays after not having been to Brookhaven since she left after graduation. Plans changed, so she’s heading back. Beckett is running an inn that he and his wife (who has passed) ran together. He’s still caught up in his grief of losing her, ands he’s just a grumpy guy. Can’t say I blame him.
Ari and Beckett come together in this wonderful book, and as time goes on there find themselves growing closer to one another. What I loved about this was the growth that both of them made while they spent time with one another. Beckett found himself able to heal, and Ari found herself falling for this really amazing guy.
I thought this was cute, romantic, and had a great touch of spice.

Tropes:
Grumpy/Sunshine
Widower
Small-Town Holiday Romance
Healing After Loss
Second Chance-Style Healing

A wonderfully warm and emotional novella! Danielle Sarah is a new to me author, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much representation and heart she packs into a shorter story. Ari returns home after a breakup, expecting a rebound fling at best—only to meet Beckett, the grumpiest (and low-key sweetest) innkeeper who’s been grieving his late wife for years.

The way their story navigates grief, hope, and the courage to love again was beautifully done. I loved the slow thaw between them, the snowy Brookhaven charm, and the authentic emotional beats that never felt rushed.

Loved this one—and I’m waiting patiently for Olivia’s story!

*Received as an ARC*

After a breakup Ari returns to her hometown looking for comfort and a little holiday cheer. She doesn’t expect to run into Beckett, the grumpy local innkeeper, but soon finds herself helping him breathe life back into his struggling business. Sparks fly and attraction builds as they work side by side.

Beckett has spent six years holding his world together after losing his wife. Running the inn and guarding his heart have been his only priorities. Ari’s presence shifts everything, stirring feelings he thought were gone and pushing him to face the grief he’s carried for too long.

This story blends cozy charm with tension and spice, delivering a romance that feels heartfelt and daring. Danielle’s shift from her last novella series is refreshing and full of promise. I’m already eager to see what comes next in this new chapter.

Everyone grieves in their own way

Beckett blamed himself for his wife's death six years ago. He truly believed he did not deserve happiness because of that. He had to keep her dream of a bed and breakfast going. The old place was beginning to be what old places turn out to be, a money pit. He was at a loss until his neighbor's daughter moved in next door to house sit her parent's house. Even though their first meeting was not the greatest, she had, a plan that would help give him the financial boost. They found themselves being more attracted to each other. Beckett came to the realization that his deceased wife would not want him spending the rest of his life being the small town grump. Rhiannon would want him to live and Ari Williams was just that person to live the rest of his life with.

This book is a holiday novella and perfect for anyone who wants a book that feels like a Hallmark movie, but with spicy romance.

I like that this story has city girl, Ari, and small town innkeeper, Beckett, start off with a rough meet cute. We get to see Beckett melt for her and his grumpiness subside for the new girl in town. It's not instant love, but the two have a quick building attraction that you can't help but root for as you're reading. Beckett has a tragic past he must come to terms with and Ari has to decide what she wants for her future. I enjoyed that while this was a holiday romance, this book still has good character development with all the sweet moments.

If you're looking for a short (see. 129 pages!) small town romance this holiday season, add this to your reading list!

This was such a cute small-town holiday romance. I usually like my female main characters to be a little more developed, but this one was still really fun to read. It gave me the same cozy feeling as Dream Harbor from the Pumpkin Spice Café series, which I absolutely love.

It definitely had the predictability of a Hallmark movie, but honestly, that’s part of what made it enjoyable. I got to read an advanced copy thanks to Danielle Sarah, and I’d give it a solid four stars. Some scenes felt so familiar in a comforting way, which made the whole book feel warm and inviting.

It’s a great holiday read, especially if you live in a close-knit city or just love stories built around tradition. I pictured it as a fun twist on Christmas with the Kranks, only this time the parents actually make it to their tropical holiday escape.

If you want A Spicy Christmas Hallmark Romance this is it. This Novella has it all Second Chance, Trauma healing, Spice, Romance, and Christmas. The FMC just got dumped by her long time boyfriend and goes back to her hometown to be around family. The MMC is a widower with a failing B&B. They clash in the beginning but end up needing each other and the sparks start flying instantly. He is one sexy gentleman. I always love a chin lift. When he does that
I melt. I love their love and the ending was touching and really romantic. I definitely teared up a little at that. Honestly 5 ⭐️ it was nothing but perfection for me. Can’t wait to keep reading. Even the side characters I want to read more about.
Thank you Danielle Sarah

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. I loved Ari and Beckett, these two didn’t get off on the right foot, but with time maybe these two can find common ground. Beckett is still mourning his late wife years later and closed off, that is until Ari. Ari, fresh out of a relationship she thought was her forever, and moving back home, she never expected to meet someone as grumpy as Beckett. Will these two realize they have things in common, trust issues, feeling alive again, figuring out what exactly it is they want this time around. Great read and definitely will read more from this author.
