I've said it many times in the past, but I'm a sucker for mythology and Egyptian mythology is right up my alley. I really enjoyed this easy-to-read guide on various gods and goddesses of Ancient Egypt and their associated creation stories and adventures. If you like learning about different cultures, mythology is the way to go, and this one fits the bill perfectly.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you’ve ever been fascinated by the gods of Ancient Egypt—or wanted to know what kind of deity would turn a crocodile into a divine bodyguard—Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt is the deep dive you’ve been waiting for.

From the very first page, I felt like I was stepping into a time when the veil between the divine and the mortal wasn’t just thin—it was breathable. These gods weren’t just symbols—they were cosmic forces people lived with, prayed to, and in some cases, mummified crocodiles for. (Yes, that’s a thing, and yes, I was delighted to learn all about it.)

What I loved most? This book doesn’t read like a textbook. It feels like being guided through a dusty tomb by a storyteller who knows every corner of the mythology but never overwhelms. You’re not just reading about Ra’s daily journey across the sky—you’re feeling the tension of that underworld battle. You’re not just learning the steps of the Weighing of the Heart—you’re imagining what it would be like to stand there, waiting to see if your soul would pass the test.

Every major god and goddess gets their moment—Ra, Osiris, Isis, Horus, Anubis (love him), and so many others I didn’t even know I needed to meet. Their stories are rich with drama, betrayal, love, and vengeance. It’s like ancient soap opera meets divine war—with scarabs, scorpions, and the occasional cursed amulet thrown in for good measure.

If you’re a mythology nerd, a history lover, or just someone who wants a well-written escape into a world of divine drama and richly imagined cosmology—grab this one. Enthralling History lives up to the name.

I walked away with a deeper respect for the culture, a head full of fascinating facts, and a renewed obsession with Anubis (seriously, where’s his series?). Highly recommend!.

Enthralling history books are well presented, with a nice balance of information, facts and storytelling with an enjoyable journey this time into the world of Ancient Egypt and an understanding of the culture through its mythology, deities, stories, legends and beliefs.
There is a nice mix in the book of detailing creation myths and chapters not only on the more famous and well-known gods and goddesses, but there is also a chapter on the lesser-known deities, which makes for an interesting discovery of surprising deities I was not aware of.
It is said that a culture's mythology not only tells the story of its customs and beliefs but also provides insight and/or interpretation of how they impacted the people and their daily lives.
I enjoyed this book as it sets out a lot of interesting information, provides an insight into the Egyptians through their rituals and beliefs with their various deities. I especially liked the chapter on the lesser-known deities and the chapter relating to the impact of Ancient Egypt on modern culture.
