Christ Is King: Theonomy and Civil Government

Rate this book
On any given Sunday, Christians throughout the world acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as "King of kings and Lord of lords" in the songs they sing, the prayers they pray, and the creeds they confess. No true Christian would deny that Christ is King. The implications of that confession, however, have proven somewhat controversial; especially when it comes to Christ's authority in the civil sphere. Dr. Greg L. Bahnsen was one of the foremost exponents of the "theonomic" view of civil government and this volume is a fine summary of the biblical and philosophical basis for pressing Christ's crown rights in the political sphere.

If you’re looking for a quick introduction to theonomy, this is it. Dr. Bahnsen was so skilled at speaking in a concise manner about difficult issues. I commend this little volume.

Helpful overview of the Biblical foundations for Bahnsen's undestanding of Theonomy and civil government. This area is one of interest to me, though I am struggling to find the "controversy" in what Bahnsen presents here. Namely, Christians affirm the ruling and reigning nature of Jesus over every sphere of life, and recognize the call to live under submission to the Lordship of Christ---and the realm of politics doesn't magically get a pass from that calling.

Basic introduction to the crown rights of Jesus Christ and the application thereof. Nothing groundbreaking or new in this volume, but still very good.
