See also: Robert Galbraith Although she writes under the pen name J.K. Rowling, pronounced like rolling, her name when her first Harry Potter book was published was simply Joanne Rowling. Anticipating that the target audience of young boys might not want to read a book written by a woman, her publishers demanded that she use two initials, rather than her full name. As she had no middle name, she chose K as the second initial of her pen name, from her paternal grandmother Kathleen Ada Bulgen Rowling. She calls herself Jo and has said, "No one ever called me 'Joanne' when I was young, unless they were angry." Following her marriage, she has sometimes used the name Joanne Murray when conducting personal business. During the Leveson Inquiry she gave evidence under the name of Joanne Kathleen Rowling. In a 2012 interview, Rowling noted that she no longer cared that people pronounced her name incorrectly.
Rowling was born to Peter James Rowling, a Rolls-Royce aircraft engineer, and Anne Rowling (née Volant), on 31 July 1965 in Yate, Gloucestershire, England, 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Bristol. Her mother Anne was half-French and half-Scottish. Her parents first met on a train departing from King's Cross Station bound for Arbroath in 1964. They married on 14 March 1965. Her mother's maternal grandfather, Dugald Campbell, was born in Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. Her mother's paternal grandfather, Louis Volant, was awarded the Croix de Guerre for exceptional bravery in defending the village of Courcelles-le-Comte during the First World War.
Rowling's sister Dianne was born at their home when Rowling was 23 months old. The family moved to the nearby village Winterbourne when Rowling was four. She attended St Michael's Primary School, a school founded by abolitionist William Wilberforce and education reformer Hannah More. Her headmaster at St Michael's, Alfred Dunn, has been suggested as the inspiration for the Harry Potter headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
As a child, Rowling often wrote fantasy stories, which she would usually then read to her sister. She recalls that: "I can still remember me telling her a story in which she fell down a rabbit hole and was fed strawberries by the rabbit family inside it. Certainly the first story I ever wrote down (when I was five or six) was about a rabbit called Rabbit. He got the measles and was visited by his friends, including a giant bee called Miss Bee." At the age of nine, Rowling moved to Church Cottage in the Gloucestershire village of Tutshill, close to Chepstow, Wales. When she was a young teenager, her great aunt, who Rowling said "taught classics and approved of a thirst for knowledge, even of a questionable kind," gave her a very old copy of Jessica Mitford's autobiography, Hons and Rebels. Mitford became Rowling's heroine, and Rowling subsequently read all of her books.
Rowling has said of her teenage years, in an interview with The New Yorker, "I wasn’t particularly happy. I think it’s a dreadful time of life." She had a difficult homelife; her mother was ill and she had a difficult relationship with her father (she is no longer on speaking terms with him). She attended secondary school at Wyedean School and College, where her mother had worked as a technician in the science department. Rowling said of her adolescence, "Hermione [a bookish, know-it-all Harry Potter character] is loosely based on me. She's a caricature of me when I was eleven, which I'm not particularly proud of." Steve Eddy, who taught Rowling English when she first arrived, remembers her as "not exceptional" but "one of a group of girls who were bright, and quite good at English." Sean Harris, her best friend in the Upper Sixth owned a turquoise Ford Anglia, which she says inspired the one in her books.
Ron was always my favourite of the trio, and the films never quite did him justice. This little book has such lovely illustrations, and I especially liked Scrabbers in it. I also found Ron's book much more visually appealing than Hermione's
After devouring the first book in the Pocket Potters series, I couldn't resist diving into the second installment. And let me tell you, it was like Ron Weasley himself handed me a chocolate frog and said, "Go on, mate, have a read."
This book is a delightful mini-encyclopedia of the Potterverse, packed with fun facts and charming illustrations. Olia Muza's artwork brings Ron's character to life in a way that even Scabbers would approve of (if he weren't so busy being a rat).
Ron has always been the unsung hero of the trio. While Harry was off saving the wizarding world and Hermione was acing every exam, Ron was there—bravely playing wizard's chess, surviving the flying car incident, and somehow managing to keep his pet rat alive for years. If that's not friendship goals, I don't know what is.
Reading this book felt like catching up with an old friend over a butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks. It reminded me of the Rons in my own life—loyal, a bit clumsy, but always there when you need them.
Now that Ron’s story is complete, I'm eagerly heading to the next installment: Hermione Granger. I can’t wait to see her brainy brilliance illustrated in all its glory—and maybe witness a few well-deserved eye rolls at Ron’s antics.
PS: For those using e-readers, this EPUB version works flawlessly on PocketBook Reader on Android. Other readers might distort the formatting, but hey, that's just more magic to figure out.
A takových moc není.
The Ron Weasley Pocket Potter guide is pure magic! Ron has always been one of my favorite characters, and this little book captures everything that makes him so lovable—his big, quirky family, his bravery, his humor, and even his messy bedroom at the Burrow. The illustrations are bright and joyful, and they bring Ron’s world to life in the most charming way.
People love to roll their eyes and call the Pocket Potters a “cash grab,” but honestly? If giving me adorable, bite-sized, joyfully illustrated guides to my favorite characters is a cash grab… then grab my cash. At least this grab leaves me smiling, unlike the countless other pointless merch out there (looking at you, random branded tea towels).
I loved revisiting moments like his Sorting at Hogwarts, the flying car adventure, and of course, all the chaos that comes with being a Weasley. The fun facts sprinkled throughout made me smile, and younger readers (or new Harry Potter fans) will adore the chance to explore Ron’s story in such a playful format.
This is the perfect companion for fans who want a quick, magical trip into Ron’s world. Collectible, colorful, and full of heart—just like Ron himself!
The Ron Weasley Pocket Potters book is absolutely precious and such a fun celebration of one of the most underrated characters in the Harry Potter series. Ron has always been the heart, humor, and loyalty of the trio, and this little guide captures that perfectly.
The illustrations are adorable and full of personality. They highlight Ron’s bravery, his awkward charm, and his unwavering loyalty to Harry and Hermione in a way that feels warm and nostalgic. Flipping through this felt like being reminded why Ron is such an essential part of the story and not just the “sidekick.”
I loved how it focuses on his best moments, his growth, and his role in the friendship dynamic. It’s light, quick, and full of heart—perfect for a little Potter pick-me-up whenever you need one.
If Ron is your favorite (or even if he isn’t yet), this is such a cute collectible and a must-have for any Potterhead shelf.
Great refresher short illustrated book for those who have read all the books and seen the movies, since it was long ago.
All the facts about Ron, Harry's loyal best friend. Describes his low key non serious personality perfectly.
Describes the Weasley family and the Burrow where they live. I did need a refresher on all the boys, didn't remember all the names etc. The illustrator got the garden gnomes all wrong. What she drew looks more like gremlins or little monsters.
I had forgotten about the owls- Ron's and the Weasley family owl.
This book is humorous with the sections on mishaps and other memories and events and Ron's views on the magical and muggle world.
The artists depiction of Neville was quite different from the books and movies so was surprising to see him short with blonde hair.
- svet HP - každá kniha venovaná jednej postave - tenká knižka - hravé spracovanie - krásne ilustrácie - zaujímavosti a charakteristika postavy - pre malých aj veľkých nadšencov

"Red hair... and a hand-me-down robe. You must be a Weasley"… The Weasley’s are a long line of gingas. lol I was the only one of six who was cursed! lol 👩🏻🦰
‘Ron Weasley is sorted into Griffindor, the same Hogwarts house as his brother and his new friend Harry Potter. . . Hermione Granger is also sorted into Griffindor.’
The illustrator has done very well in these little stories making them fun with little captions next to each one. These books are kinda like modern comic books but better.
On to the next … Pocket Potters #3 Hermiome Granger
In the book I would have to say that Ron is my favourite but in the movies Ron is kind of whiny to be honest. I understand why though imagine being friends with the kid that survived Voldemort. Now that I am rereading Harry Potter again for the third time Ron is so funny especially with his fast little quips or when he is being sassy to somebody else.
These are great books for kids that are too young to read Harry Potter but want to start being part of the Wizarding world. The illustrations are also great for the kids too, especially since this book has a lot of pictures. The colours on the inside of the book are what really draw children into the story and makes them want to read it.
I think Ron has always been one of my favourite characters but only in the books. Every little would enjoy this book and learning little pieces of the story.
This is a cool and clever way to introduce young readers to the wizards and witches in the original books or to refresh the memories of former readers. Ron is the second in the series, with the 32 pages covering his entire life up to the final year at Hogwarts. The book is filled with colorful illustrations and pictures with accompanying text at grade level. Excellent series!
Apparently Goodreads didn't know I was reading this book the whole time I was reading it1 If I were a wizard I could let it know without being on it! Well, I can at least say this is a brilliant book.
I love all these Pocket Potter books. I own 3 and wish I had more. Perfect book for a Harry Potter fan. All the illustrations in the book is amazing and good to read more about Ron Weasley and Hogwarts
The messy illustrations in this book are fun and match the Weasley personality. I love how these books do not give away any big spoilers for little readers who look through these books before reading the series.
This series is a delight. It's a quick summary of each individual character's roles during the seven years together. I appreciate the focus on Ron's gifts rather than his foibles.
