Dawn Sky Rising is part two of the Trinitor Chronicles and is an enchanting tale that swept me off my feet with its emotional richness- AGAIN. The unique dual perspective, featuring both human and animal viewpoints, adds a delightful twist to the narrative. H. A. Walker invites us into a world where the story unfolds not just through a human lens, but also through the eyes of horses and Pegasus!
The animal POV was one of my favorite elements and the bonds created between the characters is beautifully portrayed, making their connection feel authentic and heartfelt.
Each moment is thoughtfully designed, drawing us deeper into the lives of these captivating characters. The gradual build-up leads to a powerful and unexpected climax that leaves a lasting impression.
This is a soft, enchanting fantasy that resonates with a unique voice, especially from the character adorned with wings. This is definitely a must-read for anyone who loves a rich and immersive story.
After devouring the first book I had high expectations for its sequel and now, after finishing Dawn Sky Rising, I can affirm with certainty that those expectations were more than fulfilled! The story resumes right after the events of Night Sky Burning and it flows effortlessly through the whole book, not even once I lost my interest in wanting to know what will happen in the next chapter. Every scene is well constructed and composed, the lyrical prose keeps your mind enchanted till the last page. H.A. Walker has the great ability to teleport you into another dimension, where the air is crispier than usual and winged shadows cover the immense mountains.
Intense, passionate, tender, comical, sincere, mysterious..this book was it all. There were some surprising unveiling moments and I’m sure there’ll be more truths coming in surface in the book 3, so exciting! New character Calliope has already conquered my heart! The horse’s POV from the first book shifted to that of a Pegasus and it undoubtedly gives authenticity to the novel. I loved how the author implemented her knowledge of equines into the story, unifying realism with fantasy and giving readers a complete immersive experience. I’m sure every equine passionate will appreciate that! Our little roan one, Ebrel, is a perfect cohesion of wilderness, courage and tenderness, she is Destry’s spirit made four-legged and winged, the thread woven between them is invisible, yet strong enough to move the mountains. Ebrel’s conversations with the most charming stallion ever, Hestian, brought many smiles to my face!
In the first book, the atmosphere was mysterious and unpredictable, with the cold surroundings mirroring the characters' struggles. The tension was palpable and every moment felt fraught with danger, leaving little margin for warmth or relief. In contrast, the second book offers a moment of reprieve, wrapping the characters in more intimate environment where the world slows down and the real threats disappear for a heartbeat. Here they are able to find comfort in each other's presence, and embrace fleeting moments of peace and tenderness, allowing their emotions to settle and glow in the gentle embrace of the story’s softer tone. The romance was delightful and I enjoyed following the strengthening of relationship of each couple. Destry and Silvano’s bond has reached a crescendo, adding a fiery twist to what had been tender. Their union sang the Song of Ice and Fire, melting and reforging their souls anew - stronger and forever united. Asher and Calliope made me glow from inside, two broken spirits finding peace in each other’s presence, feeling safe to confess their stories after moments of tension and absence of trust. The book deals with trauma healing and the author has had a remarkable ability to convey the complex emotions of the characters with such depth that I couldn’t help but feel greatly connected to their experiences.
The end has a perfect amount of suspense, it leaves you with questions and hunger for more. The final scene is still vividly impressed in my mind, absolute cinema.
This story has helped me to forget about my worries thanks to its rich emotional involvement, it is truly a sanctuary for your soul. Dawn Sky Rising undoubtedly goes in my favourite books list and I cannot wait to continue this adventure. A big Thank You to H.A.Walker for bringing these characters to life!
Highly recommended to anyone looking for an enchanting experience of a unique fantasy romance enriched with mythological creatures, elemental magic and old mysteries to explore.
DSR picks up right from NSB, and I was so curious how this world would develop. Book 1 already has so many characters and world building aspects to keep track of, that I was worried if the second book would hold up equally as good, get bogged down with too much, or be boring as a sequel; but damn. Walker really did the thing 👏👏👏
This is a solid Fantasy that includes character driven plot, an overarching political intrigue framework to keep everything aligned and together, with great world building that is so atmospheric and descriptive, and most importantly with complex stories- is refreshingly consistent! I loved SO much that if a character got an injury, you saw that injury until it healed.
There were a few favorite tropes also littered throughout including hurt/comfort, injury/bandaging, touch her and die, marriage of convenience, consent is sexy, and enemies to lovers. And yes! We do get some spice in this sequel!!
I adored Asher and Calliope in this. I was so impressed with the prologue and first few chapters setting the scene to introduce Callie, and her plotline with Asher was so satisfying and exactly up my alley- he takes her captive, she is angry and tries to run, he bandages her wounds, she poisons him, he braids her hair (are you picking up what I'm putting down??). This series has so many memorable and great characters that it's hard to pick a favorite, but Dawn Sky Rising solidified those two for me.
I typically struggle with Multi POV, but Walker is able to write in a way where I can easily differentiate the character voices, so I had no issues and really enjoyed myself, and I loved the linear progress the POV's provided! I had an absolute blast reading it.
Also the Wintry vibes are so strong in this series so I highly recommend if you're a seasonal mood reader! ❄️
The book ends on a semi cliffhanger, but it's in such a satisfying spot and so visceral, that I really like it and I'm very excited to see how it all wraps up in Book 3.

I had high hopes going into this one after absolutely adoring the first book, and man did this deliver. I’m completely in love with this world and these characters. I feel everything for them (even the ones I hate haha) and the character growth? Off the charts. H A Walker really gave us so much here.
The world-building is even bigger and bolder this time around, and that slow burn? Girl… from chapter 30 onwards 🔥🔥🥵🥵 I was feral. Seriously, I couldn’t put it down.
The pacing was spot on, never once dragging, and the POVs were handled perfectly, not a single moment of confusion, everything just flowed so smoothly. This world is gritty, brutal, chaotic, loving and magical all rolled into one, and I’m obsessed. It’s that perfect mix of brutal and beautiful that gets under your skin and doesn’t let go. From start to finish I loved this and if I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it!! The high-stakes, the tension and the absolute heartbreak in some moments with trust and alliance shifts - OB-FRICKEN-SESSED.
If you loved Night Sky Burning, you’re in for such a treat. The lore expands, the stakes rise, the slow burn burns hotter, and the whole thing just left me aching for more. Walker has seriously outdone herself with this one.
“Give me back my sword and my cloak, and I will show you how a Kivisto fights. With grit and light and ice, to my very last breath.” - Destry
Another amazing installment of The Trinitor Chronicles! This is the second book and it truly is a magical experience through The Boreals. It made my heart soar. From the beginning, Asher and Callopie’s tension and budding connection gave me strong Jamie and Claire vibes. She captured every aspect of it in writing so perfectly and I loved it! (Ref. S1 Outlander) The way she captured her characters’ expressions and guided them through each scene shows just how incredible a writer she is.
“She didn’t know it, but she held my heart in those elegant, freckled hands, and I just prayed to whatever was listening that maybe … she would trust me enough to let me guard hers.” - Asher
Destry and Coen stole my heart, I’m so happy for them. Chapter 29! The slow burn of the series - perfection!!
“I can’t imagine what pain you have been through, wild one. Share it with me, so I can help you bear it, heal from it.” - Coen
Another POV are the Pegasi and it’s a unique experience to see the plot unfold through the eyes of an animal companion. The elemental magic and wilderness landscape was captured so beautifully in the stunning world building. The spirits just come alive on the pages in her books, she writes to enchant her readers!
Dawn Sky Rising is a quiet, powerful fantasy that took me by surprise with its emotional depth—and its brilliant use of dual POV, which you’ll remember from book1: from a horse and pegasus! H. A. Walker brings something truly unique to the genre by letting us see the world not only through the eyes of a human protagonist, but also through the perspective of these intelligent, loyal creatures.
The animal POV was hands-down one of my favorite elements. It added a soulful, instinctive layer to the story—gentle, observant, and emotionally resonant. Their bond with the main character was beautifully written and felt like the true heart of the book.
The pacing is slow-burn in both plot and romance, but it pays off in emotional weight. Some sections moved a little slowly, but the lyrical prose and the quiet strength of the characters kept me invested. This is a story about trust, survival, and finding light after darkness—with a rare and touching twist that made it stand out.
A soft, soulful fantasy with an unforgettable voice—especially the one with wings.
Dawn Sky Rising was just as amazing as Night Sky Burning!
Our main characters: Destry and Silvano...and the cutest little thief, a stoat named Tyvare, that stole my heart! Ebrel and Hestian. These two pegasi! Honestly, just love them! Asher and Calliope, their relationship, their histories, oh my heart! 😢
There were so many emotional moments throughout this book, beautifully written lines that you feel in your heart, and I had tears on more than one occasion. Hayley writes so vividly that it's cinematic in my head! Just magical! 🥹
I would love to go back over both books and annotate because there are just so many lines that you just feel, so many moments I want to remember! 💕
Hayley does it again! The second book in the Trinitor Chronicles did not disappoint. I cannot wait to see where the prequel and book 3 take us. That ending was stressful lol and a bit of a cliffy. One of the only gripes for me (this is something personal, nothing with the writing) is the multi- POV. If I counted right, there are about 6 different POV's. I have always had a rough time with so many POVs, but the storyline and world-building are top-notch, and you need to give this series a go if you love Unicorns, Pegasi, GoT vibes, romance, and high stakes. Thanks to Hayley for allowing me the opportunity to ARC read!
