READ IT BECAUSE
There are few tales more inspiring than those of the Sisters of Battle – driven by faith and sisterhood, they rush into battle when others flee, never hesitating to do their duty. These stories from fan-favourite authors and writers new to Black Library will stoke the fires of your faith in the God-Emperor.
THE STORY
In the novella Paragon of Faith, Sister Aenor leads a squad of indomitable Paragon Warsuits in the desperate defence of a sacred pilgrimage world as a hidden menace boils from below. With the planet crumbling around her, Aenor must contend with crippling self-doubt, as well as the innumerable cultist hordes.
In Saint’s Judgement, Sister Hospitaller Docia contends with a different but no less insidious threat – a deadly plague that corrupts mind, body and soul. Conflict soon envelopes her infirmary, its corridors becoming battlefields as Docia draws ever closer to a cure that will purify and push back the infected tide.
In the short story Infernal Motives, Aveline leads a unit of skitarii into a sprawling factorum complex, only to realise that the neverborn she seeks is a monstrous daemon engine. Trapped inside, Aveline must fight the machinery of the arcane building and destroy the evil at its centre – before the daemon factorum can begin making more of its infernal kind.
Sister Wulfryth must learn humility and cooperation by working with an Astra Militarum soldier in Our Lady of the Voyage. They take on a vital mission to recover a missing preacher and a sacred relic – but what if they don't want to be recovered?
The short story Joy of the Martyr features sisters of the Order of Our Martyred Lady who have been dispatched to retake and cleanse a millennia-old shrine on the planet Unguria. As they approach the ancient site, they soon realise that all is not as it appears.
In Redemption Through Blood, Sister Marcella of the Order of the Bloody Rose struggles to hone her anger as a weapon. During an engagement with the enemy, her senses are dulled by the vicious hatred she fosters, and she does not hear the orders of her Sister Superior.
Under the command of zealous Inquisitor Serantia of the Ordo Hereticus, Canoness Commander Florelia and her sisters fight with all they have to reclaim a world lost to the sacrilegious worship of a false Emperor in the short story The Fires of Our Faith.

not bad but pretty middle of the road - standard for these newer 40k short stories imo. this was about 110 pages so didn't have much time to spare and was pretty straight into the action. the pacing was bizarre and the first like 3-4 chapters just ended with...nothing? no cliff hangers, no development, no climax, literally just "and then they went to bed." or something and the chapter ends, which i found weird
the sisters were comically bad at their job which feells unfortunately common in novellas like this. they felt an ambush or betrayal coming, but rather than investigate or do...literally anything, they just stand around and wait and then (suprise) are caught off guard and overwhelemd. kinda stupid and it feels bad to read a book about a certain faction only for them to suck in it
it was cool to get a detailed look into the paragon warsuits, which are very cool tbh. i enjoyed the rituals around entering the suit, felt on brand for SoB. i also quite liked one of the climaxes were the MC aenor overcame a heretic witch through sheer enduracne, qutie on brand for the order of the valorous heart who are the main faction in this. similarly, the ending with aenor overcoming the daemon through determination and a little miracle of light again felt like a good way to represent the miracles of the adepta sororitas in text form and without being explicit about it. great little moment with the novitiates rallying towards the end too!
An extended battle scene, Paragon of Faith moves along as a fair clip, with plenty of gore, violence, and cult-like devotion by every side in the battle. It is a reminder that there are really no “good guys” in the Warhammer universe. Zealotry abounds.
Not bad as far as 40k books go but every Sisters story is exactly the same. Rarely is anything new or interesting done with them so once you read half a dozen you've pretty much read them all. Maybe some day a writer will surprise me but with Black Library that's become rare.
A solid collection and a decent entry point into the Adepta Sororitas lore. It gives a good overall sense of who the Sisters of Battle are, their faith, mindset, and the role belief plays in their lives and battles. As with most short story collections, the quality is uneven; some stories stand out, while others are more forgettable. Still, as an introduction to the Sororitas and their themes, it does its job well.
