"Unknown" is a shy, shaggy little dog who is constantly overlooked at the animal shelter, in favor of more outgoing canines. Then one day, fire breaks out at the animal shelter and little Unknown realizes it's up to her to save the day.

I enjoyed the unique watercolor illustrations and many expressions on the dog's faces. There is a good deal of wit in the text as well, which adds a dose of humor to content that could be a bit sad or scary. It's also nice to see an animal shelter instead of a pet store in a story such as this. I wasn't a fan of the second storyline involving a huge, aggressive dog who suddenly turns soft and cuddly overnight and is adopted into a home full of children and other pets. As much as we may wish this would be the case, research and tragic experience tell us that this typically doesn't happen.

Picture Book
I thought this book was cute, but a little disjointed. I might use this book in my classroom for a social story and to teach that we are all lovable.
