An absolutely stunning piece of work. Before reading this book, I knew almost nothing about the landscapes and biodiversity I fell-run, climb, and hike on in ever spare moment I can. Despite my keen affinity with the Scottish wilderness, this book highlighted within mere pages my incredible ignorance regarding the biological history of the magnificent landscapes I love. Having read this book from cover to cover, I feel I could give a short and slightly vague verbal geographical tour of Scotland. Clearly, lots still to learn on my part, but this was an excellent start at curbing my ignorance of the natural world!
