Nicole Brooks is new to Ulysses, hoping for some fun at her cousin's wedding. A little champagne. A few bad decisions. But her wedding date has other, violent plans—and the night ends in terror, gunfire... and a mesmerizing stranger pulling her from the chaos with blood on his hands and ice in his eyes.
Dimitri Morozov is a professional killer who strikes without mercy. Cold. Careful. Controlled. He doesn’t get attached. He doesn’t leave loose ends. So when Nicole becomes a witness to his work, he knows exactly what he should do. But one look at her and everything shifts.
Killing her isn’t an option. So he keeps her.
What starts as damage control twists into something darker. Hungrier. She's soft where he's hard; she's light where he’s dark; she's warm where he's cold. She's a healer—he's a weapon. And yet with every brush of a hand, every stolen moment, their defenses begin to unravel. She tells herself she doesn't have to trust him to want him. But Dimitri? He's not stopping until every part of her is his.
But she doesn't belong in his world. And when the truth about why she was attacked finally comes to light, they will have to choose—fight for something that was never supposed to happen, or let it all go before it destroys them both.
Because in the dark, the only thing more dangerous than the truth... is the man who'd kill to keep you.

L.M. Whiteley is a self-publishing Indie Author living in Philadelphia with her husband and co-writer/cat.
She writes dark, steamy romance with morally gray male main characters, relatable female main characters, obsessive love and hard-won happily-ever-afters. When she’s not writing, she can be found cooking, gardening, gaming, playing outside with her friends or letting book boyfriends written by other fantastic indie authors ruin her.
Eyes in the Shadows was a banger, so there was no doubt in my mind that book 2 in the Hitmen of Ulysses was going to SLAY. And slay, it did. LM Whiteley just knows how to weave a beautiful story. You will laugh. You will sweat. You will cry. Dimitri and Nicole are going to be your new fave couple, okay? Dimitri? New book boyfriend. Like, top five. Yeah. It is evident that LM did the research to make sure to craft such an excellent romance novel. If you want Bratva vibes, kidnapping, forced proximity and the sweetest and most tender love story ever this NEEDS to be on your TBR and moved directly to the top.
I loved the first book but this one definitely topped it ❤️. It is a very well written character lead book that had me blushing, laughing, crying and cringing, with some well placed one liners and the delivery of speech and context from each perspective is on point 👌 Im hanging and reeling for the next book! 👏 L.m.whiteley xx
This follows Dimitri, a hitman who was once in the bratva , who goes undercover into a bratva family wedding to scope out the head of the bratva clan in nj . Well, he's being followed and needs a cover . That's where he finds Nicole a nurse and family of the bride sitting alone. He decides to sit with her to look less inconspicuous. Well, it works, and now sparks are flying . That's not the only thing flying that night, though . Soon, things go wrong, and guns are being fired, knives are being thrown, and nicole is being taken.
quotes i enjoyed:
"Wanting you is constant. As easy as being awake, or breathing."
Every time we are together, it strikes me as the setup of one of those jokes with a punchline that is a pun. Though, ours would not have a funny or witty end. An American, an Englishman and a Russian walk into a bar... and kill everyone inside.
She must see that my confusion is genuine, because her smile shifts. "Sorry. I thought you were going to... Sorry. It's just that that's the beginning of a particularly bad sexual innuendo." "What is?" "It's like, 'do you have a little Russian in you? No? Do you want some?' or something like that." "I do not... oh," I say as understanding dawns. Then, I blow out a breath through my nose in amusement. "I would never say this. My cock is not little."
There is something intoxicating about being needed by a woman who needs no one.
LM has done it again 👏 🙌 Second book of the Hitmen of Ulysses follows Dimitri and Nicole. Dimitri- A dark brooding possessive Russian hitman find himself protecting Nicole - A ER travel nurse after meeting at her cousins wedding. Forced Proximity, one bed and a hint of kidnapping- Nicole finds herself at the centre of the teams current 'job'. This slow burn dark romance was 🤤😍 perfect balance of plot, spice and banter! 👀 I will never see a gym weight bench the same way... I really enjoyed the second installment, I was already a Dimitri fan so getting to dive deeper into his character and his POVs only solidified this for me! He has met his match in Nicole and she slots right in to this unconventional found family! The found friendship between Nicole and Eleanor also was one of my favourite parts because I think we all need a friend whos honest enough to put us straight! I was glad to see nothing was lost from book 1 and we still see all the relationships and character building for Mac, Eleanor and Wesley but just from additional POVs. I'll be here waiting patiently for Wesley's story because honestly I cant get enough! 🫶

Trying to put my words together… THE BEST FUCKING BOOK STRIKES AGAIN. LM STRIKES AGAIN.
Like i ate this up and am so sad im done. Dimitri & “Nee-Cole”…. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
Lynn has this way of writing that completely captivates you, I’ve read a lot of Russian characters and the way Dimitri talks and how Lynn writes is seriously amazing. I cannot say this Enough but wow, god tier AGAIN. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
First off, a big thank you to L.M. Whiteley for the digital ARC of Kept in the Dark!
After reading Book 1 of Hitmen of Ulysses, I immediately knew Dimitri was my favorite—so when I realized Book 2 would focus on him, I was so ready. I had high expectations, and this book totally delivered.
Kept in the Dark is a slow-burn, action-packed, and surprisingly witty read. If there’s no fight scene happening, you can bet there’s some serious tension building—emotional, romantic… and yes, the spicy kind too 👀. What really hooked me was the character development and the chemistry between the FMC and MMC. I kept turning pages way past my bedtime!
Dimitri is misunderstood, feared, and emotionally guarded—but through Whiteley's storytelling, we get a deeper look into what shaped him. The exploration of how both presence and absence in our pasts can define us hit hard in all the right ways.
Nicole, our FMC, finds herself (and a friend) in a place she never expected to be. Her realization that her past may have set her up for certain struggles felt so raw and real. One of the things I love most about this series is how Whiteley writes women—they’re messy, anxious, insecure at times, and completely relatable. Nicole was no exception.
We also get to revisit some favorites from Eyes in the Shadows, and I loved how Whiteley added new layers to the story as well.. She definitely has me intrigued about Book 3.
Highly recommend this one if you're into dark romance with heart, grit, and emotional depth. Can’t wait to see where the series goes next!
I LOVED the first book of this series, Eyes in the Shadows. So much so that I couldn’t help but worry just a teeny bit that the sequel might not be able to live up to it. But Kept in the Dark more than holds its own, building on the world of Ulysses while delivering an entirely fresh, fun and sexy new adventure.
Dimitri (“roughly the size of a grizzly bear”) moves from beloved side character to leading man with ease. Brusque, burly and wonderfully Russian, you will fall helplessly in love with our scarred (anti)hero as hard and fast as he falls for Nicole, our fiercely intelligent and independent leading lady. Whiteley again gives us an FMC who is just so authentic, relatable and real; Nicole feels to me like the kind of friend who you could always count on to give you good advice.
There’s a bit of a wait for the steamy romance to start but when it does, it hits hard and hot! Dimitri would never leave any woman unsatisfied. 😉 And the plot is well-crafted and intriguing, never a second-fiddle vehicle purely for romantic purposes. You’ll want to keep reading as much for the mystery as the chemistry. And that ending will leave you dying for the third installment!
So to begin with a slight book nerd moment. Kept In The Dark was the final book in this year's goal and thanks to having the honor in doing an ARC it's completing that goal before it releases.
Now to the fun part. This book managed to take all the intense steamy action from Eye in the Shadows and make it so much more. We know Dimitri we know the scar, we know the no fun attitude, we know the anger. But I'll raise that and say you don't know Dimitri, but you should. He'll have you saying YES DIMITRI as you're on the edge of your sit soaking in every last word. Nicole is a wicked women who's always been the only person she can count on. That's until a man whom makes her feel small finally shows a true interest in her for all that she is. So when a wedding goes wrong and she's facing a deadly threat. Dimitri becomes the one person she must learn to trust. This story had me smiling like a school girl (with bad girl thoughts) I've never rooted for a FMC to go for something so hard. At one point balling my eyes out and praying more meant good things. And sorry Russian MFC I'll never pronounce my middle name that same. I will always hear NeeCole with goosebumps. READ THESE BOOKS. L.M. Whiteley works magic in these pages and these books deserve every bit of the hype and recognition.
Kept in the Dark by L.M. Whiteley ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)
There’s just something irresistible about a 6-foot-8 Russian hitman who looks like he could snap necks without blinking—and probably has—but somehow turns into a total marshmallow for her. In Kept in the Dark, L.M. Whiteley delivers an exceptional dark romcom that blends gritty action, sharp wit, and the kind of slow-burn, soul-melting romance that stays with you long after the last page.
Our hulking anti-hero is rough around the edges, practically radiating danger, the human embodiment of the Grim Reaper in designer black. But watching him unravel emotionally—becoming soft, protective, and utterly devoted—is half the joy of this ride. The chemistry is explosive, the banter is razor-sharp, and the emotional payoff? Chef’s kiss.
Whiteley masterfully balances high-stakes drama with unexpected humor and the gooey, heart-clutching moments that define great romance. Whether you're in it for the blood, the belly laughs, or the butterflies, Kept in the Dark delivers it all.
Highly recommend for fans of morally gray men, sassy heroines, and love stories that punch you in the gut—in the best way possible.
Well, this Author did it again! This book 2 of the series was just as captivating as the first book. It had me locked in and dying to figure out the story, all while following the dark, morally grey MMC who put off a rough, hard exterior to everyone. Dimitri ends up falling for a nurse, who is a tall curvy FMC, that he meets at a wedding during a recon and soon you will see this brut of a man soften his heart. This is a dark romcom, slow burn with a kidnapping, a forced proximity that will have you wanting more!
This book was amazing. I loved Dimitri in book one but he stole my heart in this book. He is my favorite grumpy protective MMC ever. I did not want this story to end. L.M. Whiteley’s writing style is amazing. Her characters are believable and relatable and I had an instant connection to them. I highly recommend this series to everyone!
Once again, I was hooked right from the first page. It was so suspenseful and on your seat that I couldn’t out it down till the end. This is a continuum of book 1 which I highly recommend reading first. This story does follow Dimitri the Russian with the heart of ice. He’s a hit man and always says women are distractions and shouldn’t be part of this hitman, danger life that they all possess. But when he meets Nicole, things take a different turn for everyone. A horrible incident puts Dimitri and Nicole right into each other’s path, and which he tries to figure out her role in this Russian mob and why they want her, he has to try to keep her safe along the way things turn into something more with them. But could they both want the same thing. This book had everything, and I absolutely loved every second of this. Suspense, danger, hitman, kidnapping, love, and so much more will have you loving this book from the beginning. I really can’t wait to know if there will be another book in this series.
I am absolutely obsessed with Kept in the Dark. Dimitri is… I can’t even. Dangerous, magnetic, completely impossible to resist, and yet somehow, tender in the most infuriatingly perfect way. Nicole is fierce, smart, and somehow able to stand up to him while melting under his gaze—and watching them navigate that pull? My heart didn’t stand a chance.
This book is dark, sexy, and relentless. The tension is so thick I could feel it in my chest, and the slow burn? Chef’s kiss. Every interaction, every glance, every tiny touch made my pulse go full chaos mode. Dimitri is the morally gray, protective, take-no-prisoners type of hero we all secretly crave, and Nicole balances him perfectly.
I laughed, I swooned, I nearly combusted from sheer frustration and longing, and I cannot stop thinking about them. This is exactly the kind of romance that makes your chest ache, your stomach flip, and your brain scream “I NEED MORE.”
If you love high-stakes danger, morally gray heroes, slow-burn heat, and chemistry that will absolutely destroy you in the best way, do yourself a favor and read this now.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Gritty, Funny, and Shockingly Sweet If you're into morally grey antiheroes, dark twists, and unexpected laughs, this one’s for you. This book delivers a gritty, fast-paced dark romance wrapped in a story that somehow balances violence, vulnerability, and snarky banter—no easy feat when your leading man is a Russian hitman. The Male Lead? Dangerous. Brooding. And weirdly hilarious in his own dry, deadpan way. He’s not your typical romance novel alpha—he's rough around the edges, fluent in threats, and just unhinged enough to make you question your sanity for loving him. But it works. The author gives him layers: beneath the trigger finger and vodka-soaked sarcasm, there's loyalty and a surprising sense of honor. The Romance? Dark, intense, and definitely not safe for work—but not just about the spice (though yes, it's there and it burns in all the right ways). The chemistry between the leads is electric, and the push-pull dynamic keeps the tension alive. She's smart, doesn’t fall for his crap, and challenges him in ways that actually evolve the plot—not just for steam. The Humor? Surprisingly solid. The comedic relief comes in at just the right moments—usually via side characters or the hitman's obliviously blunt remarks. It gives the story a unique charm and stops it from being too heavy. Final Thoughts: This book is like a shot of espresso with a bullet casing in the cup—dark, a little dangerous, and unexpectedly energizing. Perfect for readers who like their romance twisted, spicy, and laced with humor.
Dimitri and Nicole hold a special place in my heart! This is the second book in the Hitmen of Ulysses series. Dimitri and Nicole meet by chance at a wedding. Some things go south at the wedding and well Dimitri has to take Nicole away to keep her safe 🙊 This story was so beautiful and I loved the depth of the characters. There is curvy girl representation! The found family vibes also continue in this book. The banter not only between the main characters but the boys always has me giggling. I cannot wait for book 3!
Kept in the Dark is a fantastic follow-up to Eyes in the Shadow. Dimitri’s story is darker and more serious, but still delivers plenty of intensity, slow burn chemistry, and the sharp banter I’ve come to love in this series. Nicole is a strong, curvy heroine who balances vulnerability with resilience, and I adored the way their dynamic unfolded.
This series has me hooked with its mix of danger, romance, and humor. Highly recommend if you love protective heroes, heroines with real depth, and an undercurrent of mystery that keeps you turning the pages. Can’t wait for the next book!
Light spoiler version: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5 stars)
After loving Eyes in the Shadow (which I gave 5 stars), I couldn’t wait to dive into Kept in the Dark…and it did not disappoint. This installment focuses on Dimitri, and while book one still edges out as my favorite, this was a strong, gripping follow up.
Dimitri has always been the more serious and stoic one, and that tone definitely comes through in his story. The first half leans heavier on the setup, especially as he crosses paths with Nicole, a tall, curvy nurse who’s both sweet and quietly insecure. Dimitri tries to keep his distance, convinced he’s too dangerous for her, but his protective instincts win out once she finds herself in danger thanks to a shady situation involving her date at a wedding.
What I really enjoyed was how Nicole challenged Dimitri, and how her strength paired with her vulnerability made her such a refreshing heroine. Plus, Dimitri loves her curves, and it’s written in such an affirming way that I’ve been on a roll lately enjoying stories with fuller-figured FMCs. Their chemistry simmers slowly, always on the brink but constantly interrupted by Dimitri’s sense of duty and restraint.
The lighter moments come mostly when Dimitri is with Wesley and Mack…their banter is sharp, funny, and a perfect contrast to the darker tension running through the book. And of course, the bigger picture continues to unravel: the secrecy of their lives as hitmen, the mystery of the “General,” and the threads tying the series together.
Overall, Kept in the Dark is an excellent addition to the series: intense, layered, and deeply engaging. If you loved book one, you’ll definitely want to keep going. I’m hooked and can’t wait for what’s coming next.
If I’m being honest, I really didn’t love this book as much as the first one. That’s not to say I think it’s bad by any means! I love that we got to see a different side to Dimitri that we haven’t seen before. I’m also the type that loves to see character growth and this author is very good at writing that! Dimitri went from always serious to “fun Dimitri” because Nicole helped bring that out in him & I loved to see it! When he kept saying “my med” I was not a big fan but once Wesley explained what it meant, I melted like butter🥹
On the flip side, I personally think this book was a bit slow compared to the first & didn’t need to be as long as it was. The beginning & end were soo good, of course, but the middle kind of dragged. Also, I was a little irritated that they kept referencing her weight (FMC is plus size) and I just felt like it didn’t need to be talked about so much because clearly he loved that she was plus size & that’s all that matters!💕
I’m honestly so excited for the next book already because I can’t wait to hear Wesley’s story! I love the whole computer nerd thing😍
This is the second book in the series and i loved Nicole & Dimitris story!
I loved the writting in this book and the story. It was extemely similar to book one in places and the humour and banter in the book was definitley there also. I love that although the story is dark, the side characters and main characters have such big bold personalities with their witty banter. It gives the book a lighter feel when reading the darker stuff.
The book follows Dimitri who is part of the team of hitmen who get paid to do certain jobs for people high up people. Dimitri is starting a job which is at a wedding, he goes alone as that's how he usual works best until he runs into some unexpected hurdles along the way. He finds himself at a lose end trying to hide from people when he finds Nicole (the fmc) sat alone. He goes to sit with her (purely not to blow his cover) but does end up being interested in her and her story. Nicole finds herself in some trouble and Dimitri is there to save her.
The book follows the two of them on the run and hiding out whilst things calm down. What could go wrong? 😂
I loved the writting in this, it's dual pov, action packed, fast paced and the flow is really easy to read. The characters became extremly likable very quickly. Dimitri is this big grumpy 6ft russian hitman and Nicole is just a normal girl who travels for work who literally keeps herself to herself. The opposites attract is definitley appropriate for this book.
It's full of tension, chemistry and banter between the two characters. I also loved the friendship with Nicole and Eleanor. I think the author has done a really good job with the side characters as they are all really loveable and it just makes me excited for the next book! I love Wes and cannot wait to read about him.
Overall, the book is so much fun. It is a dark romance but it has that humour and banter to lighten the mood. I would highly recommend this series for anyone who likes dark romance with some humour.

Hitman mmc Slow burn Tension! Dark romance / romcom Kidnapping Posessive mmc grumpy 6ft russian found family
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8 stars because 5 isnt enough- The grumpy hitman is sweeter than honey
A good ass plot with a slow burn that cut me open and stitched me back together.
Once again, L.M. Whiteley has me both loving and dreading the end of a book. I can’t not fall in love with these characters—their banter, their loyalty, their wounds.
Kept in the Dark makes my heart so full, even as it breaks me. Every component is just as intriguing as the romance, and that’s huge for me. This isn’t filler between kisses—it’s a damn good plot.
This story follows Dimitri, a cold and grumpy hitman with a dark past, and Nicole, a traveling nurse. A chance meeting brings them together, but when she becomes a bystander who sees too much, Dimitri makes a decision that changes both their lives. Secrets kept in the dark will come to light… yet the most dangerous thing isn’t the truth—it’s the man who would kill to keep you.
The mini Russian dictionary. Already had me blushing before any spice even hit. Reading it made me anticipate every moment it would resurface—and when it did, the context was so much sweeter than I could’ve imagined.
Dimitri’s idioms. His interpretation of sayings had me choking for an entirely different reason. Dark, grumpy, funny [though he doesnt know it], he’s everything.
The fight scenes are so cinematic and badass, you can see frame by frame how every move pans out.
Both Dimitri and Nicole have moments, insecurities, and monologues that feel like pieces of me. Events aren’t just handed to you. You store details, connect dots, and then finally go “ohhhhh” when it all comes together. It feels like an active investigation, not just a story you watch and its so immersive.
Gosh. The boys and their gym. 🥵 Enough said.
Say something bad about Nicole and you’ll pay the price. And Dimitri makes sure of it.
L. M. Whiteley has knocked it out of the park yet again—and dare I say, the second book is even better than the first. I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for her debut, and when I was invited into Our Creed for this one, my anticipation was sky-high. Finally getting my hands on it? Absolutely worth every second of the wait.
Now, let’s get to the nitty-gritty: you’re going to need a quiet place to read this one. Why? Because the reactions you’ll have—gasps, tears, maybe even a few moments of “wait, why am I rooting for this?”—will take you on a rollercoaster. And that, to me, is the mark of a brilliant book.
Our MMC, Dimitri, sees himself as a monster. Undesirable. Unworthy of love. But page after page proves otherwise. He’s the definition of “grumpy on the outside, golden retriever on the inside”—the kind of man who’s rough, dangerous, and absolutely lethal for those he protects… but also the kind who will love you so completely it shatters your heart.
Then there’s Nicole. A plus-size heroine who is strong, independent, and breathtakingly beautiful—inside and out. She falls for the man no one should, and yet you feel every reason why she does. Together, Dimitri and Nicole will make your heart race, make you cry, and make you believe in a love that shouldn’t exist but somehow does.
Like the first book, this one has it all:
Dark romance that will pull you into the shadows
Spice that will have you gripping the sheets
Thrills that keep you on edge and scared for the characters you love
Emotions so raw and real, you’ll feel every heartbeat, every scar, every ounce of their passion
By the end, you’re not just reading—you’re living it. And trust me, you won’t want to come up for air.
Ohhh these Hitman of Ulysses, I am so in love. I was beyond excited to have received this ARC to read. I couldn't wait to find out what type of woman would make Dimitri come undone! What happens when a cold calculating Russian with a penchance for knives and a level headed, warm, and vibrant nurse meet under the stars for the first time at a wedding? Dimitri's feels heart starts beating again the moment he sees her, and Nicole has never felt as safe and accepted as when she is with Dimitri. This release is already out, and I'm a little behind. But as you know, life gets in the way. I love this author and this series. Her characters have such grit, determination, and depth. The plot is always well thought out, and it has such good character building. You will fall in love with all of them like I did. I do have to say that from the first book, Dmitri was one of my favorites. He's the kind of guy I love to see break apart. He thinks he's so cold and unfeeling, but he really has a depth for compassion and love for someone who is the right person. Nicole has had a hard life. She is a nurse who travels all over, a nomad. She has never had family ties or found that person to complete her. She is warm, compassionate, and tough. She has seen a lot through her job and doesn't shy away from the ugly side of life. This book has morally grey characters, he falls first, touch her and die , close proximity, share one bed, and found family. The heat, chemistry, and tension between these two from the beginning were amazing . Her books are always so well put together, thoughtful, and the characters just reach out and grab a hold of you. You can't outrun fate when you meet your soulmate. There's just one thing you can do, give in and enjoy the ride!
Thank you to L.M. Whiteley for allowing me to be on your ARC Team!!
This Dark Rom-Com gets 5/5 🌟and 3.5/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Book two of the Ulysses Trilogy, Hitmen of Ulysses, dives straight into Dimitri’s story—and what a ride it is. Dimitri, a big, burly Russian hitman with a rough exterior and a soft, teddy-bear center, finds his unexpected soulmate while attending a wedding. One look across the courtyard at Nicole, a travel nurse there for her cousin’s big day, and everything changes.
Their connection is instant but far from simple. As Dimitri steps in to save Nicole from the Mafia and tries to shield her from looming danger, the emotional walls she’s always kept up begin to crumble. Despite his profession, Nicole falls hard—and this steamy slow burn delivers on every level.
The banter between James, Wesley, Eleanor, and Dimitri is absolutely unmatched. The story is packed with danger, excitement, humor, raw emotion, and spicy scenes that will make you blush and crave more. The dual POV adds another layer of depth and comedic insight into Dimitri and Nicole’s thoughts, making their journey even more engaging.
A perfect blend of heat, heart, and high-stakes action. I couldn’t put it down!
I cannot wait for the next and final book in this trilogy that is coming out at the end is February 2026!
I didn't think that I would love Dimitri more than I adored Mac but I was sadly mistaken!
Dimitri is brooding, dark, and known to have a heart of ice, but once Nicole steps into his life, we slowly see that ice heart start thawing, and I was here for it!
Told in Dual POV, we get to see the inner workings of Dimitri's mind and even get a look into his past, which explains why he is the way he is. I did get a little emotional at times because Dimitri is not quick to let people in, but he lets Nicole in, and you can completely tell that she has quickly become his person.
I really liked the character of Nicole! A plus-size FMC, who is a traveling nurse. She does not have a great relationship with her family and is looking for somewhere to settle down and call home.
There is a chapter from Mac's POV which was hilarious in itself and had me giggling...ALOT! The banter between the characters is still there, and it was interesting to see how Dimitri's mind attempts to work through the quips and innuendos since he does not always understand, and things tend to fly over his head.
HIGHLY recommended, especially if you have read the first book in the series. I am eagerly awaiting the next book, which I hope and assume is Wes's!
DIMITRI he needs his own list, he’s too intense for a book boyfriends list. Nee-Cole is a lucky lady! I went it to this book with high expectations following the first book in the series (also a 5 star) and now LM Whiteley will have to go on another list of mine.. favourite authors. This book did not show any lacking in story, action or spice. The book is incredibly well written, the story flows exceptionally and there’s the right balance of action, spice and soul searching. Having already fell in love with our trio of hitmen (especially Mac) it was only fair that we get a more detailed look at Dimitri and then by extension, Nicole, our FMC. Dimitri meets Nicole when a ‘job’ goes sideways. She’s a bridesmaid at her cousins wedding and he’s there to scope out potentially offing the father of the groom. One thing leads to another and before you know it Nicole is under house arrest with Dimitri as her ‘captor’ I don’t include spoilers in my reviews but just know, while this is slightly dark, there is HEA and the end has been left open for the next book (give it to me!!) will we see Wes find love too?
❤️ I received an advanced review copy for free and I’m leaving this review voluntarily ❤️
This book is just as amazing as Eyes in the Shadows—I couldn’t put it down and ended up reading it all in one day! I absolutely love how it’s written more like a real-life story than a fantasy, which makes it feel incredibly raw and relatable. (Minus the kidnapping, mafia and Hitmen 😂😂)
Dimitri + Nicole = 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Their chemistry is off the charts. It’s a slow burn filled with tension, hesitation, and an intense pull between them. Nicole’s understanding of who Dimitri is—his complexities, his past, his walls—adds so much emotional depth. And the jealousy and possessiveness they both feel? Whew.🔥
The grey sweatpants… if you know, you know. 🥵
The scenes between Eleanor and Nicole were a standout for me, too. Their bond and emotional understanding of each other’s experiences felt so genuine. Different paths, different circumstances—but both found love (and some seriously hot sex) in the end.
This book took me on a full emotional rollercoaster, and I loved every second of it. 😭❤️

Lynn does it again with another amazing hitman! Mac was trying really hard to win top five book boyfriends but Dimitri came in SWINGING (IYKYK LOL) This man has a way with WORDS that had even me blushing behind my kindle. Their love story wasn't all roses and they really had to work for it; which I absolutely adored. Nicole had to grow into her own sense of self and Dimitri was ready to throw the world at her feet for love. The slow burn and TENSION really made this book a winner for me. Lynn just KNOWS how to write a good book. Our FMC was not a Barbie doll and our MMC was ROUGH around those edges but we love them more for it! If my review doesn't pull you in, I know the quotes below will ;)
Kept in the Dark is the second book in L.M. Whitely’s Hitmen of Ulysses series, and whew—Dimitri might just ruin me for all future morally grey men.
Dimitri, our broody, emotionally unavailable hitman, collides with Nicole, a nurse who’s equally guarded but for very different reasons. What begins as a simple distraction spirals into a kidnapping gone wrong… because somewhere between the banter, the tension, and the danger, feelings sneak in. 👀
What I loved most is that this story isn’t just about two people falling for each other—it’s about learning self-worth, choosing happiness, and realizing that even the most guarded hearts can crave love.
I was so honored to receive an ARC of this book, and I already can’t wait to return to Ulysses for the next installment. If you love your romance with danger, grit, and a whole lot of swoon, this series needs to be on your radar.
This is the second book in the Hitmen of Ulysses series and follows Dimitri and Nicole. He is the Russian with a scarred face and a way with knives. Nicole is a fill in a her cousins wedding who ends up with a jerk hitting on her and taking her into the garden maze. Dimitri kidnaps her to try to save her and takes her to his boat (one bed troupe) and she uses her skills as a traveling nurse to treat his wounds. Now she has to decide does she go back to her nomad life with things are safe or will she finally have a place (someone) to call home.
If I could live in a book it would be this one. The spice in the gym, OMG.
I was laughing out loud, When Nicole asks What self respecting woman asks a man to ruin her? Umm that would be me. Or when they are joking and Dimitri tells her she must have a little Russian in her but he doesn't get the joke so she has to explain it to her. Who makes a pie chart to keep track of who wins in fights.
But nothing makes me fall harder for a man then when he says thing like For her, I will beg.

I love Dimitri! Here we have a man who has known nothing but violence his whole life and he meets a women who’s one desire in life is to help others and save lives. He doesn’t know what to do. He decides that even though he’s not perfect he will still go to the ends of the world to make her happy.
Nicole is unbothered by Dimitri’s dark side but when she starts looking to the future she gets scared. All she’s ever known is the freedom of picking up her life and leaving and she’s scared that he is too possessive to continue to give her freedom.
The banter in this book is incredible but if you read book one you already knew that. Even though the people around Dimitri are coworkers who he lives with, this gives a found family vibe which I loved. I was engaged, giggling and kicking my feet. Dimitri is Russian and doesn’t get American references/slang, and it makes it that much more entertaining.
💫ARC Review!💫 I was WAITING for this book! I loved Dimitri in book 1, so I had high hopes for his book and it did NOT disappoint! 5 amazing stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There wasn’t a single point in the book where I was bored, I was completely hooked from the very beginning. Dimitri and Nicole are perfect for each other, they definitely even each other out. The tension, the banter and the yearning was *chefs kiss* 💋 and my god, the slow burn paid off!!! 🥵
This had me cackling at times lol Dimitri struggling to understand some jokes and sayings, the friendship they have and the way they pick on each other is pure gold!
It wasn’t all laughs though, I did in fact get teary eyed at some points 😭 and the plot twist literally had me yelling like it would change the words I was reading lol
Overall, I absolutely LOVED this book and highly recommend you start this trilogy!!!
