When coffee turns deadly, it's up to a café owner and her clever cats to solve the mystery before she becomes the next victim.
Charlotte "Charlie" Winters thought opening Purrfect Cup Café in charming Willowbrook, Vermont was her fresh start—a cozy refuge from her controlling ex-husband, complete with her beloved tuxedo cat Sherlock. But when her demanding landlord Regina Hartwell drops dead from an allergic reaction at a business meeting Charlie catered, suddenly her dream café becomes a nightmare.
All evidence points to Charlie as the killer. She had motive—Regina threatened to evict her with an impossible rent increase. She had means—access to all the food and drink. And she served Regina the fatal cup of coffee personally.
With the police closing in and her customers fleeing, Charlie realizes she must solve the murder herself or lose everything she's worked to build. Armed with her marketing instincts and aided by Sherlock's uncanny ability to sniff out clues, she begins investigating Willowbrook's secrets. But between caring for a traumatized rescue cat and dodging a determined health inspector, Charlie discovers that everyone had reason to want Regina gone.
When she uncovers a web of embezzlement, family betrayal, and buried grudges, Charlie finds herself in more danger than she imagined. Someone killed once to protect their secrets, and they won't hesitate to kill again.
Can Charlie serve up justice before the killer puts her permanently out of business?
A Latte Trouble is book #1 in The Cat Cafe Chronicles series by Dee May.
This was an enjoyable start to a new series. Charlie runs a cat café with her cat Sherlock. Her landlord is not a pleasant woman, and unfortunately, after a confrontation, she later drops dead. As the main suspect, Charlie has to figure out who did it to save her business. I enjoyed the fact that this wasn’t just about a murder mystery, but Charlie is also taken care of a traumatized cat. What she’s willing to do to try to save the kitten is really heartwarming. I liked how Charlie wrapped up the mystery and I can’t wait for the next book to see how her cafe plans work out.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is sweet. I thought it was nice. I have read some of the author's other series and wanted to try this. The mystery was not too complicated or violent. I liked her interaction with other characters. The cat cafe aspect was nice.
