No Way Out by Max Connor and Neil Lancaster follow British intelligence operative Josie Chapman on her 2nd adventure as she goes undercover in California to infiltrate a dangerous criminal network.

Another fast paced and action-packed thriller, filled with action, danger and a strong central character. Already Looking forward to book 3, if there is one.

This was a pacy thriller packed with action which follows Josie, a young woman at the start of her career for a secretive British intelligence agency. Having completed her first mission (befriending the daughter of a people trafficker to get access to her phone to install spyware), she’s out for food when she sees a big guy picking on a little guy and steps in. Pretty soon she finds herself arrested by some corrupt cops and pulled into the seedy world of drugs, corruption and much worse in San Luis Obispo, California. Her moral compass kicks in, and despite orders to the contrary, she sets out to exact justice.
There were a few small issues that detracted from the story for me. I listened to the audiobook, and Devonian Ollie had a Bristolian accent. There were moments when characters spoke using phrases that ‘belonged’ to others, so felt incongruous, some repetition throughout the novel and a degree of ‘mansplaining’ (for want of a better word) which felt a little heavy handed. I grew up in a naval town with a father who served, so to hear “matlo” mispronounced by a British military character, grated.
However, overall it was a pacy story with a solid plot and plenty of action, so four stars from me, with thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK audio for the ALC.
No Way Out releases on 4 June.

I’ll admit up front that I went into “No Way Out” by Max Conner already very excited once I realised that it is Neil Lancaster writing under a pseudonym. I love Lancaster’s work, so getting hold of an advance copy felt like a treat. And I’m happy to report that it more than lived up to expectations.

The book follows British intelligence operative Josie Chapman on an undercover mission in California, where what looks like a carefully contained operation quickly opens out into a messy, dangerous world of organised crime and corruption. What starts as a carefully constructed cover quickly becomes a dangerous balancing act as she uncovers just how far corruption reaches.

This was such an exhilarating read. Lancaster has a knack for writing thrillers that are utterly absorbing without feeling ridiculous, and this one is no exception. The pacing is spot on and the twists are clever and contemporary. I didn’t even realise how hooked I was until I noticed that my garden was suddenly immaculately weed free because I absolutely did not want to stop listening. That, to me, is always the sign of a great audiobook.

The characters feel properly real, fully formed and grounded. Even though I haven’t read the first book in this series yet – which I will rectify later today – I had no problem getting into the story. Josie Chapman is a fantastic central character and the supporting cast all feel distinct and believable rather than there just to move the plot along. This really is thriller writing at its best—smart, tense and very hard to put down.

The narration by Catrin Walker Booth is excellent and adds even more energy to an already gripping story. Her accents are spot on and she has that wonderful ability to differentiate characters clearly without ever tipping into pantomime. It’s a confident, skilled performance that perfectly matches the tone of the book and makes the whole thing even more immersive.

All in all, No Way Out is a fast, clever, genuinely thrilling listen and a reminder of why I trust Neil Lancaster to deliver every single time—no matter what name he’s writing under.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK Audio, NetGalley and Max Conner for an advance listening copy of this book.

I’ve never read a Neil Lancaster book I didn’t like. He’s a talented writer and his books are absolute page turners. I read his first Max Connor book, ‘No Mercy’ and although I enjoyed it, I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as those written under his own name (I presume Neil Lancaster is his own name and Max Connor a pseudonym, but I could be wrong). However, having said that, it was still a really good read, so I was delighted to get ‘No Way Out’ as an advanced reader e.copy to review. Josie, the daughter of a navy marine, (killed in a robbery of his service medals) who starred in the first book was again the main character. She has now been recruited as a British Intelligence operative and is on her first mission in the U.S.A. Posing as a climbing instructor, she gains access to the phone of the daughter of a woman known to be involved in human trafficking. She then however, goes a bit ‘rogue’ and decides not to return home at the end of the mission.
It was at this point that I found my eyebrows raising a bit and thinking, ‘really??’ I believe poetic licence is necessary for the genre of fiction that I like which is suspense, thriller, police procedural type books, so, although I was a bit sceptical I still wanted to read on and find out what happened.
The book is definitely a page-turner and I did really enjoy it. My only negative is that I struggle to like Josie, even a little bit. She is an abrasive character, very full of herself, and decidedly over confident. Compared to the protagonists in Neil Lancaster’s other books who, despite being hard as nails, clearly have a softer side and are very likeable, (in my opinion) Josie just lacks that personable trait. Perhaps that will come in subsequent books in this serious.
Having said all that, it didn’t detract much from my definite enjoyment of the book. The storyline is gripping and kept me page-turning right to the end.
My thanks, as always, go to the author, the publishers and to NetGalley for an advanced reader e.copy of this book.

We first meet Josie Chapman when she and her late father‘s pals, especially Macca, perform an audacious plot to retrieve Frank Chapman‘s stolen military medals. This leads to her being recruited by a branch of British intelligence and an operation in the USA at the behest of the FBI in California. At the end of a days successful work, she decides to go out to eat, a decision she will live to regret as she realises she has been well and truly set up. Awareness dawns that a great deal of rottenness lies at the heart of Morro Bay– is there really no way out? Not if ruthless Franco Torndino has anything to do with it.

Max Connor a.k.a. Neil Lancaster always delivers fast paced, intriguing novels and this is certainly a page turner. Here, as Josie learns to her cost, the corruption goes very deep but her father has taught her well. Just because it’s difficult doesn’t mean she’ll walk away, quite the contrary. I really like her as a central protagonist. She’s brave, smart, cool headed (usually!), resourceful and intuitive. That being said, she can be impulsive if she thinks right is on her side but that’s what makes her so interesting. Macca is immensely likeable and the pages he features on are usually especially entertaining. New characters in Bas Marchbank, her recruiter, Maggie and Ollie at HQ in Cricklewood and Sergeant Orville Williams of San Luis Obispo PD are worthy new additions.

The plot is an exciting, intoxicating read with danger levels set high as the opponents are terrifying and have a long reach. It’s tense and suspenseful with plenty of highs and lows. It’s perhaps a tad far-fetched, but it’s so compelling, who cares? It’s a high octane, twisty, rollercoaster read with some great characters and maybe (?) a couple of stereotypical villains. I’m certain Josie will cause plenty of kerfuffles wherever the shenanigans take her next.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to HQ for the much appreciated early copy in return for an honest review.

I went into this completely new to the series – and I’m coming out of it already planning to go back for book one and counting down to book three.

This is a fast-paced espionage thriller, and it absolutely delivers on tension, action, and high stakes. From the prologue, this had me hooked.

The narration by Catrin Walker-Booth is honestly flawless. Clear, engaging, and so easy to sink into – it completely elevated the story for me. One of those narrators you immediately want to look up and listen to more from.

Josie Chapman is exactly the kind of FMC I love – strong, capable, and driven, with just enough rebellion to make things interesting. And the character dynamics overall were such a highlight – the banter across the cast felt natural, sharp, and added a great balance to the tension.

But what really made this for me was the team around her. Maggie brings serious 007 boss energy, Baz as the mentor trying (and sometimes failing) to rein Josie in, Ollie with the tech brilliance, Macca (who I absolutely loved) and that bond between them, and then the lovely Orville, who is sharp and misses absolutely nothing. The character dynamics and banter across the group added so much to the story.

This audiobook had me fully gripped. The kind where suddenly your house is spotless because you’ll find any excuse to keep listening. By 80%, the tension had ramped up so much I genuinely didn’t want to pause (real life responsibilities felt very inconvenient at that point 😅).

I loved the dual perspective between the “good” and the “bad” – it added so much tension and gave the story a real edge. And despite this being book two, I never once felt lost. It absolutely stands on its own while still making me want more of the wider story.

This was such a strong first impression of this author for me. He actually came recommended by my local bookshop, The Hedgehog Bookshop, and I’m so glad I took their advice.

Safe to say, I’m all in on this series now. I can’t wait to read more 😊

No Way Out by Max Connor is a thriller and the second book in the Josie Chapman series.
The story begins at a steady pace, taking time to lay the foundations of the characters, their relationships, and their individual roles within the plot. Despite being book two in the series, it works well as a standalone novel, as Connor introduces the characters clearly enough for new readers to settle comfortably into the story.
Josie Chapman is a gritty and determined protagonist who has a strong sense of fairness and a fierce desire to do what is right, even if that occasionally means bending the rules to get results. She is young, driven, and deeply proud of her father’s military background, something that clearly shapes both her values and ambitions throughout the story.
One of the strongest aspects of the novel is the dialogue, which felt natural and believable throughout, a real testament to Connor’s writing style and character work. The interactions between the characters helped ground the story and made the relationships feel authentic.
For an action-adventure thriller, however, I did find myself expecting a little more tension and urgency throughout the middle sections of the book. While the pacing remained steady, the suspense truly began to build later on, with the final part of the novel delivering more of the intensity I had been hoping for.
Overall, No Way Out is a solid, character-driven thriller with a strong central protagonist and an accessible style that makes it easy to read as a standalone. It will particularly appeal to readers who enjoy gritty female leads, military influences, police or investigative thrillers, and steadily paced stories that build towards a stronger, action-filled conclusion.

Absolutely loved this book. From the very first pages it completely hooked me and never let go.

Josie Chapman is a phenomenal central character, sharp, fearless and utterly compelling. She has that rare presence where you can genuinely see her as a female Jack Reacher: strong, intelligent and completely unrelenting when she is on a mission. I loved every layer of her, especially the depth of her backstory and the motivation driving her forward. She is not just written well, she feels fully formed like someone you could believe exists.

The supporting cast is equally well developed. Every character has purpose and texture and even the antagonist is chilling, controlling and completely unnerving. His presence dominates every scene he appears in and creates constant tension throughout the story.

The plot is fast paced, tightly woven and full of twists that keep you completely engaged. Josie’s investigation moves through multiple strands that she carefully unpicks and I loved how intelligently the story unfolds without ever feeling slow or predictable.

What really stood out for me was the intensity, both in the crimes being explored and in Josie’s determination to push beyond limits, ignore the safe advice and prove herself through sheer grit and skill. Her personal drive adds emotional weight that elevates the whole book.

This has genuinely cemented Charlie Gallagher as one of my favourite authors. I have reached the point where I do not even need to read the synopsis anymore. If his name is on the cover I know I am picking it up. I am already looking at what to read next.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I discovered No Way Out, when another reviewer mentioned that Max Connor was a pseudonym for Neil Lancaster, whose books I thoroughly enjoy, so this book became a must read for me.

Josie Chapman is underway with her training, to become an agent for a covert British Intelligence group. Think of this group as being far more secretive than MI5 and MI6, the training on par with the SBS. Josie is sent to America, to play a key role in info gathering on a ruthless trafficking gang. The mission is a success, and Josie is instructed to fly home; but her strong moral compass means she is unable to. There are loose ends, people with power hurting those who have no voice.

This is the second book in this Series, No Mercy being the first. I didn’t feel any disadvantage by not reading the earlier book. The author scattered background details through the pages, to help the reader understand how Josie came to be where she is, and how she is linked to a few other characters.

I thought that the narrator, Catrin Walker-Booth did a fabulous job. She had a huge range of accents to negotiate, both male and female. All the voices felt genuine and natural.

The pacing of this engaging book is good, and I read/listened quickly. I really enjoyed the characters, Josie and Orville being my favourites. Even though I have just literally finished No Way Out, I am already looking forward to the next book in the series; as I would love to catch up with some of the characters again.

Thanks to Max/Neil and NetGalley for allowing me to read No Way out prior to the publication date.
This is the 2nd book in the Josie Chapman series but can be read as a standalone story.
It is an all action espionage thriller with Josie as a young female version of Jack Reacher.
Most of the characters in the book are despicable.

Josie is the daughter of the late Frank Chapman, a highly decorated former Regimental Sergeant.
Her mother, Macey, who is living with advanced dementia, is now in a care home.
Josie is not in a good place as she grieves for her father whilst watching her mother slip away, day by day.
She accepts the offer of a role with a covert intelligence agency.

Her first assignment is to assist the Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force within the FBI.
With the assignment complete Josie is preparing to return to the UK when she sess a young man being attacked. For a split second, she considers her exfiltration instructions versus one of her father’s many mantras of “do what is right”. Then Josie is bringing the attacker down. The local police arrive and arrest Josie on trumped up charges of drug possession.
In the hours that follow, she realises that there is a lot of corruption in the state.
Out of country and without authority, can she expose the people responsible?
The task will take all of her training to survive.

No Way Out by Max Connor is a high-octane, intoxicating thriller that cranks the danger level and keeps the suspense at a fever pitch from start to finish.

The story introduces Josie, a feisty and compelling lead whose first assignment involves assisting the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force. The narrative is a twisty rollercoaster that explores just how far corruption can spread when it is enabled by those in power. While the plot occasionally veers into the far-fetched and features a few stereotypical "caricature" villains, these elements don't detract from the enjoyment; instead, they add to the book’s relentless, cinematic energy.

The audiobook experience is exceptional, thanks to a fantastic performance by Catrin Walker-Booth. She does a brilliant job of turning the story into a "live-action" experience, using her voice, tone, and pacing to perfectly capture the mounting tension.

This is a fast-paced "whodunit" that keeps you guessing without ever losing its course. If you enjoy strong female protagonists who aren't afraid to cause a few agitations in the name of justice, this is a must-read. A solid 4 action-packed stars for a debut mission that promises plenty of shenanigans to come.

Looking for your next fast-paced, adrenaline-fuelled, action-packed read? Look no further. Although this is the second book featuring Josie Chapman, it works perfectly well as a standalone.

Josie is a young British intelligence trainee whose late father served in the Special Boat Squadron. After successfully completing her first mission, she should be heading home to the UK. Instead, after stepping in to stop a man being attacked, she finds herself arrested by corrupt police officers and dragged into a dangerous world of drugs, people trafficking, and corruption in San Luis Obispo, California.

With no idea who she can trust, Josie refuses to walk away until she uncovers the truth. Thankfully, her boss sends Macca, an old friend of her father’s, to help her. But just how high does the corruption go?

I absolutely flew through this book. The pacing was excellent, and I loved both Josie and Macca as characters. My only slight niggle was that one character’s Botox-related lack of facial expression was mentioned a few too many times. Reading it in one sitting made the repetition stand out more.

Aside from that, this was an engaging, engrossing thriller, and I’m already looking forward to seeing what Josie gets up to next.

“There’s something rotten in Morro Bay.”

This is the second book in Neil Lancaster’s Josie Chapman series, writing under the name Max Connor. I’ve not read book one, but everything was explained early on so that I felt caught up. Although, if you would like to read them all, I’d recommend reading them in order as there are spoilers in book 2!

In No Way Out, Josie takes on her second British Intelligence mission - flying to California and uncovering the true extent of a corrupt empire. At its heart, a terrifying crime lord known as The Director.

This was great - totally absorbing, fast-paced, cinematic! I really liked Josie’s character and seeing her learn the ropes of the secret service, whilst going rogue anywhere possible in her quest to defend innocent people.

There were some quite scary and creepy moments with The Director and his henchmen and I got very invested in Josie and Macca’s mission. Orville the almost-retired cop was ace too, and I hope we’ll see more of him in the next book!

I did feel like the ending was a bit hurried after all the build up. And I’m not sure Metallica’s Master of Puppets was the best choice for sensory deprivation torture, that song is ace and has some rather tender moments to it! Dumb criminals! 😂

Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC of No Way Out by Max Connor

This was my first book by Max Connor and it certainly won’t be my last. A tightly plotted, high-stakes thriller with organised crime and espionage at its core, it gripped me from the outset and never let up.

Josie Chapman is a superb lead beingstrong, intelligent and refreshingly capable without ever feeling invincible. As the investigation escalates and loyalties blur, she’s forced to navigate a web of danger where nothing is quite as it seems. The tension builds steadily, the twists are well judged and the stakes feel genuinely high throughout.

The supporting characters add depth and nuance, but it’s Josie who anchors the story. I loved her determination and moral clarity under pressure, she’s exactly the sort of protagonist you want to follow into a series.

The audiobook narration is excellent: well paced, clear and emotionally attuned to the shifts in tension. It enhances the drama without ever overpowering it, making this an immersive and compelling listen.

A sharp, addictive thriller and an easy five stars. I can’t wait for the next one.

‘No Way Out’, by Max Connor ; Neil Lancaster is Book 2 in the Josie Chapman series.
As this series and character was completely new to me I was intrigued to find out how well this might pan out. There was simply no chance to have any doubts,as right away I felt fully immersed in the storyline and sympathetic to Josie’s struggles as a new covert operator tasked with completing her assignment or doing the right thing as her conscience dictated her.
This action thriller contains a mix of totally memorable heroes and villains to match the very best espionage tales. While the members of Josie's team and associates are instantly very likeable with all their individual qualities, the members of the Organised Crime Gang herein are truly horrible and worthy of Josie's best efforts to take them down.
There might not be room for many grey areas in the depiction of these characters yet the narrative makes for a fully enjoyable and entertaining read.I look forward to going back to book one and any future stories.

Now way out by Max Connor otherwise known as Neil Lancaster is book 2 in the Josie Chapman series.
Josie is now training as a British intelligence officer and has been sent to California to infiltrate corruption with not only the local Police force, but the local FBI and government officials in the town of Morrow Bay. Heading it is ruthless crime Boss is Franco Tondino better known as ‘The Director.
Josie with the help of her father’s old comrade ‘Macca’ Goes deep into the network to find evidence that can put them all away. But how far will she go?
I am a big fan of The Ds Max Criagie series by Neil Lancaster, So I had a hint of what to expect. This is another action-packed high-octane thriller, it full of suspense, delving into the criminal underworld of organised crime, drugs and people trafficking. It has great characters of Josie, Macca, Maggie and the rest of the team and hint of humour too in the storyline.
This is another fantastic read from the author, which I couldn’t stop reading. I was routing for Josie all the way through and I hope there is more of this series to come, 5 stars from me.

An absolute triumph of a thriller that grabs you from page one and never lets go!

No Way Out by Max Connor (the brilliant Neil Lancaster writing under a pseudonym) drops us straight into the blistering heat of California. In this second book we follow Josie on her high-stakes first mission as an undercover operative, and what a ride it is. When our brave, rule-bending rookie goes rogue to stop heinous criminals, the pace becomes utterly relentless. Josie is such a relatable protagonist, she's courageous but we see her softer side too as she fights for justice and those who can't fight for themselves.

The characters truly steal the show. The banter between Josie, her mentor Macca, and bosses Bas and Maggie perfectly lightens the dark, corrupt criminal underbelly they face. Desk Sergeant Orville was a particular standout for me!
With a brilliantly complex, multi-layered plot and a spectacular, neatly tied-up explosive ending, I absolutely loved this book. I can't wait to see what’s next for this phenomenal team!
Huge thanks to Netgalley and HQ for the ARC. This is my own opinion.

I love Neil Lancaster’s writing, and this diversion into a new series, under a pseudonym, is just as good as the Max Craigie books.
This is the second book in the Josie Chapman series, but works well as a standalone. Josie is a fantastic female main character. She’s bold, passionate and just a bit reckless. Her heart is in the right place but sometimes she’s a bit too impetuous for her own good.
Josie has been recruited into an intelligence role in this second book. She’s doing a job using her climbing skills to get close to the daughter of a woman who’s suspected to be trafficking girls for sex, in order that a bigger fish can corrupt police, and higher officials in the town of San Luis Obispo. Job successfully completed, Josie interferes in something adjacent to the job, fails to go home when directed and instead enters into a rogue operation which might get her and her dad’s old friend killed!
Adrenaline filled, a nice settling into getting to know the characters better than in the first book, and full of courage, this is another great read.
Many thanks to the publisher for the ARC.

No Way Out is another rollercoaster of thrills and action involving Josie Chapman.
Josie has been recruited by British Intelligence on the recommendation of Macca her deceased father’s special forces comrade who has known Josie all her life and was involved in her last mission to ensure her father’s murderers were brought to justice.
After all her training she is sent to California to assist the FBI to gather information and find evidence of people smuggling. This she does but when she comes to the aid of a man being beaten up she herself is arrested. This leads to her finding a nest of police corruption which against the FBI orders she is determined to uncover. This leads to Macca joining forces to support her.
With many horrific discoveries and a cast of truly dreadful evil individuals
this story is the very definition off a page turner with heartstopping moments and action that has you holding your breath.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

This is a brand new author and series for me so I was intrigued by the plot especially as it is a thriller with a female lead. You usually see these kinds of books with male leads so colour me intrigued.

This is a high stakes thriller that keeps you guessing from the start. You never quite know where it is going but it never veers off course. It is fast paced and shows just how far corruption can spread when it is excused and enabled by others.

Was the plot far fetched at times? Yes. Are some characters just caricatures of bad guys? Yes. But that is not detrimental to the book at all.

I wish the Josie was a bit more fleshed out. You can tell she was written by a male writer. It's not bad but it was just a little too on the nose at times especially with the "not all men" conversation. It's a conversation that was good to see in the book but somehow it just didn't land for me.

Overall a good book though and makes me want to seek out book 1 in the series and more by Max Connor.

The second in the new Josie Chapman series and what a cracker it is. In the first book I wasn’t quite sure if I could warm to Josie but I certainly do now. A feisty, intelligent and supremely fit lady who’s late father was a respected Royal Marine. Due to Josie’s exploits in the first book, she is now being recruited into a secret arm of British intelligence. Finding herself on a mission in California she performs well and is told to return to England. However, Josie is not one to follow orders and when the body of a young man is discovered in a hotel room, she desperately wants to find out who is responsible and why. Is her new career over before it starts and has her irresponsibility put her in danger? A tense, unsavory story that puts greed and desire ahead of moral standards and with a plethora of ruthless characters who will stop at nothing to get what they want. New characters Maggie, Ollie and Orville mix seemlessly with Macca and Bas who we met in the first book. An excellent story that was a real page turner and I can’t wait for the next in this very promising series.

The second book in the series featuring Josie Chapman. In this book, Josie is in the States on her first mission for the British secret service. Like the previous book, the "baddies" are, amongst other things, people traffickers. Once the mission is satisfactorily completed, Josie is supposed to return to the UK but she doesn't. She stays behind because she wants to stamp out the corruption she has seen.
I spent the first part of the book feeling very annoyed. I don't like Josie, she is impetus and arrogant and it really spoiled my early enjoyment of the book. The latter part of the book was rescued by the exciting, fast-paced action and some of the supporting characters were enjoyable to read, especially Orville.
Overall this was a quick and entertaining read but I just don't like Josie!
I received a free review copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for my honest and unedited review.

We first met Josie Chapman in “No Mercy”. That was a fun jaunt with some aging assistants. I was prepared for a full-blown thriller and ended up with a mixture thriller/aging detectives style novel. It was an enjoyable novel that ended with a job offer for Josie.

“No Way Out” is the first adventure for Josie on this new job. THIS is more like the novel I thought I was getting with “No Mercy”. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the first book, but this is more of the adventure side. Both books are good.

“No Way Out” is written by Neil Lancaster under the name Max Connor. I am not sure for the name change, but if you are familiar with Lancaster’s work with the DS Max Craigie series, you know he is an excellent writer.

Lancaster/Connor writes action scenes and procedural methods better than most writers today. “No Way Out” isn’t an exception to that rule.

No Way Out is a fast paced action thriller delving deep into the underbelly of human trafficking and corruption. Behind the scenes is a crime boss with far reaching contacts and a deadly team of thugs to do his bidding.

Following on from the events in 'No Mercy', the first in this series Josie Chapman has a new identity and a new career with intelligence services. With a lot to prove she hits the ground running in this tense, action packed novel.

A great mix of intrigue, action and adventure with a sprinkling of humour, a well plotted storyline and great characters, this was the perfect novel for a wet weekend.

Was it believable? Not really. Was it a great read? Most definitely. Could it be read as a standalone? Easily

My thanks to HQ and the author for the early read, all opinions expressed are my own

Max Connor, (pseudonym for the best selling author, Neil Lancaster) brings us the second book in the Josie Chapman series, and very good it is too!

British Intelligence operative, Josie Chapman, heads to California for her latest mission. But behind the spectacular Pacific coastline, lies a network of organised crime. Josie’s mission is to infiltrate the vast operation and bring it down.

Franco Tondino is at the heart of this criminal enterprise. This man, also known as The Director, is utterly ruthless - nothing and no one will stand in his way, but that won’t stop Josie. She may be a newbie in the Intelligence Service, but this lady has guts, and she will do the right thing despite the danger she faces!

Another great storyline. Fast paced, action packed, with unbearable tension throughout!

Josie is back after being recruited to join a small apparently nondescript team of the secret service.
She has done green cap endurance physical training, is generally a very fit person and is taking part in her first mission. This is in the US where she is tasked with a specific job.

As in the first book it seems that Josie is incapable of following orders and thinks she knows best. This is the most frustrating part of the book as she puts so much at risk. I liked the others in the team and Macker who is supporting her.

The narration was excellent, perfect choice for the book.. I really enjoy this author and his other pen name having listened to all of his books.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the DRC

No Way Out(josie chapman 2) by Max Connor AKA Neil Lancaster
Ratings story 10/10, characters 10/10, easy to read 10/10, the 2nd book featuring Josie Chapman, while this is more a action crime thriller, it does has genuinely laugh out loud moments, plot Josie now works for the british intelligence, is sent to America and infiltrates a ruthless California crime network, risking everything to expose corruption and bring down its powerful boss called the director, I was kindly given advance copy of this book by the nice people at HarperCollins and NetGalley #maxconnor #neillanchester #nowayout #action #humour #tension #gripping #musthavebooks #mustreadbooks #highlyrecommended #harpercollins #netgalley

4.5 stars, action filled mystery thriller audiobook. A female Jack Reacher type feel, but with its own vibe too. Josie is pulled into the world of British intelligence. Initiative is a strong skill point. But she just can’t follow orders and let things go when she feels things are really wrong. A human trafficking ring in a town in very corrupt California town gets her back up, and Josie goes off piste. Baddies and baddies boss beware!

0.5 of a star off - Josie has such a strong skill set and so much strength of character yet at times she just seems to lack any confidence. Thank you to Harper Collins UK Audio and NetGalley for the audio ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

Another triumph from Max Conner in this new series. Our protagonist fresh from vanquishing her late father’s tormentors finds herself tapped on the shoulder and recruited to do more of the same but on a professional not personal basis: Although before too long it all becomes very personal.

The second in a series, this fast paced thriller keeps you turning pages and tearing along the road. it has a cinematic feel to it as our hero gets involved where she shouldn’t following her father’s mantra.

Another excellent and entertaining read from Connor that leaves me eager for more…

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for the eARC of this book.
