A private investigator mystery with psychological suspense, an undercover investigation, and deadly institutional secrets
Karen was getting better. Then she vanished.

When Erika's sister disappears from Turning Trail Recovery Center, the staff insist there is a simple explanation. Erika knows better. Karen's last messages hinted that something was very wrong inside the exclusive rehab facility, and now no one will tell the truth.

Private investigator Zachary Goldman knows what addiction can do to a family. His own brother's struggle has shown him how fragile recovery is, how precious hope can be, and how easily both can be exploited. But every question he asks about Karen's disappearance leads to another locked door.

So Zachary does the unthinkable: he checks himself in.

Behind Turning Trail's polished facade, he finds vulnerable patients, mounting lies, and a system built to profit from the people who need help most. The deeper he goes, the clearer it becomes that Karen's disappearance is only part of something much darker.

If Zachary wants to find her, he will have to expose the truth from the inside before the facility destroys more lives, including his own.

Another riveting investigation…

Zachary Goldman is a man who survived an extremely traumatic childhood which left him scarred physically and psychologically. Managing to overcome his turbulent past, he grew up to become a successful private investigator with a heart of gold and a keen eye for details often overlooked by others. In this story, Zachary is hired by a woman to look into the disappearance of her sister, who was seeking treatment in a drug rehabilitation facility. It is impossible for Zachary not to reflect back on the many difficulties he faced when his own brother, an alcoholic, was struggling to get clean and sober. He is all too familiar with the hours of agonizing worry, doubt, and fear that go along with having a loved one floundering in the throes of addiction. In his enthusiasm to find answers or at least bring some sort of closure to his new client, he goes undercover to investigate the facility from which the woman’s sister disappeared. He had no way of knowing the danger he would find himself in or the lengths to which certain individuals would go in order to protect themselves. As a retired physician, I found the scope of misconduct Zachary encounters to be beyond horrifying. As a fan of this award-winning author, I found the story absolutely riveting and impossible to put down. As a fellow reader, I highly recommend this eye-opening, evocative book be put at the top of your TBR list.

They Sold Her Story - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

A woman's disappearance from a rehab facility causes her sister to hire PI Zachary Goldman to uncover the truth. His partner Kenzie's understandably anxious that being undercover could trigger Zachary's own past trauma.
They Sold Her Story is both eye-opening and thought-
provoking, as are all P.D.Workman's other books. While the subject is gritty, it's very well-written and readable as a standalone, or with others in any order.
Highly recommended, so grab a copy of They Sold Her Story today to see what I mean!

Ms. Workman creates wonderfully complex characters, and Zachary Goldman is one of my favorites! In search of a missing patient, he poses as a drug addict to go undercover in a drug rehabilitation program. He soon discovers that the job won’t be nearly as simple as he thought. This well crafted tale was a joy to read. Highly recommended! I’m eagerly awaiting the next in the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to write a voluntary, unbiased review.

I’m surprised that Zachary made it. I was sure he would be watched very closely. He did a very brave thing to bring justice to several people without a voice. I think he is perfect for his job. He cares. I am also glad he had people looking out for him as well. This was an exciting book and I enjoyed reading it! I always look forward to ANYTHING P D Workman writes!

Wow! What a page turner. As Zachary goes undercover to find out what happened to someone, his experience there tells him so much more than he was trying to find out. Very suspenseful. Such a great addition to this series.

Where are the missing women, PI Zachary is hired to check it out. Did they go willingly or were they abducted. Well written and full of suspense as always. Don’t miss out.
