HIDE by Lara Adrian

John “Ranger” Duarte was one of the Phoenix program’s deadliest operatives, a man with a dark past and a ruthless sense of justice. Since the fall of the program, Ranger’s gone deep off-grid in the mountains, preparing for war against his enemies. No one has found him in three years, until a woman in desperate need of help arrives on his doorstep—a woman he once vowed to keep safe. Ranger’s honor demands he uphold his promise, but with premonitions of a looming apocalypse haunting his dreams and killers edging closer by the hour, protecting Lisa Becker is a distraction he can ill afford. And when the passion that sparks between them becomes a flame neither of them can put out, Ranger will be forced to decide between the mission his own life depends on, and the woman he cannot live without.

Cliffhanger??

HIDE by Lara Adrian

I don’t know if I’d call Lisa TSTL but the author should have written her time with John a little longer if she was going to have Lisa get all PO’d at John for not telling her about Kyle. She thinks of him as a liar and he was keeping secrets from her. AND they had only been together for 2 DAYS, after being apart for 5 years. AND they were busy killing an assassin who infiltrated his mountain, then driving fast and far, then taking a chopper to an island safe house. And what, during all this John was supposed to stop and say, “Oh, by the way Lisa I have some suspicious news about Kyle. AND on the morning of the third day when John did tell her about Kyle she goes to her room ALL day and pouts like a ten year old.” Authors try so hard to write a very short story that they write stupid crap in it. This will be my least favorite, I can see that. I did like John and Alec but I didn’t like the way Lisa was written. However, it did turn out to be an exciting story: good guys that were drug dealers and the military that were the bad guys. Go figure.

There were a couple of explicit sex scenes and between BOTH stories the F-bomb was released 89 times.

SEEK by Tina Folsom

This was definitely my favorite of the four stories BUT I can’t find any more books in this series and it’s been over a year since this was released. Wow, talk about being left hanging. Had I known there was soooo much left of the series that was unanswered I would never have started it. I mean, it ended with Ace finding Nick and Nick saying, “Come on, we’ve got a lot to discuss.” The End. Oh, Nick and Michelle got their HEA but this really was a cliffhanger. Who is Mr. Smith? What’s with all the precognitive members of Phoenix team having the same dream, only a little bit different? Together it has to mean something but how long do readers have to wait to find out what it all means.

There was 2 or 3 explicit sex scenes in this book and in BOTH books the F-bomb was let lose 89 times.

As to the narrator: Eric Dove did a marvelous job. His voices, his laughter and whispering are ways that show he knows what he’s doing. He gets better with each narration he does.

There are signs of impending doom, precognitive visions and a very incomplete jigsaw puzzle that has definitely gotten my attention. But I'm impatient for the entire story to come together, despite reading about the delicious (and sometimes not entirely believable) lives of Phoenix operatives in limbo - which are more individual and disparate than I'd hope it would be.

As good as these novellas are, there is a difference in the quality of writing and for this reason, I found myself enjoying some stories more than others, especially since some sex scenes should have been replaced by bolstering the plot and the action.

I didn't like this set as much as the first book. I just didn't "care" about the characters and weren't too interested in the stories. The first book had that special spark that had me wanting to know what happened. This book was just "meh" yeah phoenix group, blah blah esp, blah blah explosion and blah blah find out what's going on....lol. I still want to know what the big event is about and why each guy is only getting pieces of the vision. I'll still get the next book to see what happens next because I'm a sucker for a good trainwreck.

Wait, that's the end? Are you telling me that there's not going to be any resolution to that premonition that everyone's been having? No more finding more Phoenix members and kicking Smith's butt? I get that might have been due to publishing choices but still.

Well, this was...it was okay. I'm not sure what it was but I couldn't quite dig into it, I guess? It was like, I was interested but at the same time I couldn't quite bring myself to care. I will admit that I got frustrated with both Alec and John referring to anything to do with Lisa as "pretty little [whatever]". Like, it needs to be said once and then if it's going to come up again, only when John and Lisa are in bed and it's supposed to be flirting. It does not need to come up every time they're talking about her and the gun that's going to end up pressed to her head. I will admit to liking the aspect of best-friend's little sister that was going on with John and Lisa though. Talon's reveal was a little upsetting but at least he seemed to have started trying to make up for things.

Seek by Tina Folsom 3 Stars
So just like Hide, this was okay. Again, I was interested but just didn't really care. Although I will acknowledge that half of those feelings could be from the fact that there seems to be no more books yet there are so many threads left unanswered. But that's on the series as a whole, not necessarily this specific story. Overall, Nick and Michelle were decent. I get that this was a short(er) story so the relationship had to happen really fast but still. I did like the fact that Nick acknowledged that he wanted Michelle for her and that he flat out told her that he hadn't had to sleep with her in order to get what he wanted. Granted, it doesn't necessarily excuse things but it was still surprisingly sweet, in a weird, roundabout way. I did find myself rolling my eyes at Michelle's jump to "he's working for Smith!". Yes, she found a gun, and yes, he wasn't exactly everything he'd been telling her, but just...really?. I do find myself wondering about Smith and his connection to things though.

Love this series!!

Suspense, intrigue and plenty of steam all tied up in an emotional roller coaster ride. I am anxious to read the next books in this series. The unquestionable trust and camaraderie of the Phoenix team is the heart beat of this series. You will love it.

The action and suspense continues…

The series continues with two more connected stories from the authors Lara Adrian and Tina Folsom. Replete with suspenseful storylines and sexy romances more of the Phoenix operatives are finding each other. I noticed a trend in the romance tropes of the stories, Lara Adrian’s are second chance romances, Tina Folsom’s are instant lust to love in a short time. I’m curious if this tendency will continue. The stories are of novella length with dual viewpoints and really should be read in order. - 4.75 stars

Hide by Lara Adrian – 5 stars

Three years ago, when the Phoenix program went down, operative John Duarte went into hiding in a remote cabin in the mountains of North Carolina. No one has found him until one night in a torrential downpour the sensors he’s placed around his property are tripped. Expecting to have to kill an enemy he’s surprised by what he finds, a drenched woman, the sister of a fellow operative and the woman he spent a night with years ago, a woman who was off-limits that he has never forgotten and that he ran from. He also promised her brother if anything happened to him that he would look after her.

When she receives a text message with just one word “Hide” from her older brother on a special phone that he gave her, Lisa Becker goes on the run in fear and worried about her brother who didn’t respond when she tried to contact him for explanation. The last time she saw her brother Kyle he did not look well. Not knowing where to go to she heads to the only safe place that she could think of, to the only man who could possibly help her, her brother’s friend and a man who hurt her years ago after a night indelibly imprinted in her memory. She did not expect the reception she received when she finds him, to be in the sights of his weapon.

Lisa who’d been oblivious to what her brother was involved in or of the abilities that he shared with his friends is stunned by the knowledge but takes it all in stride. The sexual tension between John and Lisa that never died was rekindled the moment they laid eyes on each other, it didn’t take long for them to reconnect physically and emotionally. I very much liked this couple, how they dealt with things, the risks they took based on an instinctive trust in the other. Action and suspense abound in this story as the pair along with another operative search for the missing brother and information about the coming inferno.

Seek by Tina Folsom – 4.5 stars

Not just a former Phoenix operative, Nicholas Young is a computer hacker extraordinaire. He’s on a mission to find the intelligence that will lead him to his fellow Phoenix agents who he only knows by codename in the hopes that together they can decipher the dreams that haunt him and prevent the apocalypse that he sees. He’s run across a road block, another capable hacker who prevents him from accessing the secure government servers that he needs. But the game of cat and mouse that they are playing is ending for he’s gotten his opponents location. It’s to his surprise to find that the hacker is a very pretty, sexy, dark blond, blue-eyed woman who intrigues him more than professionally.

When her handler gives her an ultimatum to turn over the hacker that he wants in ten days in exchange for her freedom or prosecution for hacking into unauthorized agency servers, Michelle Andrews puts in motion plans to disappear to a country with no extradition back to the states. She’s a good hacker but the one that she’s been tracking is elusive and after a month she’s doubtful that she can locate him in time. A mistake on her part accidentally left her IP address open for a moment and she’s unknowingly caught by the one that she had been seeking. He works his way into her life and she brings him home after he saves her life for it’s difficult to resist the charms of a man who’s so sweet and sexy. She could also use the distraction from the mess that her life has become. It turns out that he’s the man who she needs to extricate herself from her dire situation.

Two alike intelligent minds chase each other on the web and when they meet they succumb to the physical attraction that they feel for each other. But they can also help each other. Michelle’s a sassy heroine but the predicament that she’s in requires that she trusts in Nicholas and there’s something about the man and his story that she can’t resist. Though Nicholas might need Michelle’s services to accomplish his goal it’s the man in him who’s not letting her go. She strikes a deep chord within him. With dangerous enemies out to get them and with help from other Phoenix they start on the road to preventing a disaster of unknown proportions. There was great action and suspense in this one.

"Hide and Seek" by Lara Adrian and Tina Folsom. Books 3 & 4 in the Phoenix Code series.

Hide by Lara Adrian

LOVED this story about John and Lisa! The storyline picks up fast and the background of the characters is given right away letting the reader know the history between the main characters.

John (known as his last name, Duarte, through most of the book) has been living off the grid for the past 3 years, ever since the Phoenix program became compromised. He and his fellow Phoenix all have the ESP power of premonition. But what John didn't see is the woman he left behind 5 years ago finding him in his cabin and in need of help.

Lisa is in trouble. She needs help to find her brother Kyle, who she thinks is also in trouble. A mysterious text from him telling her to HIDE was his last communication with her. And the only person she knows who may be able to help her is John Duarte, her brother's best friend and her one-night stand from 5 years ago.

The passion between John and Lisa is undeniable. This story takes them on an adventure of trying to save her brother while trying not to get captured by the bad-guys and furthers the whole series plot line of who is trying to take down all the Phoenix members. Also the plot thickens with more premonitions John and other Phoenix members have about a vision they all keep having about a catastrophic explosion that has yet to happen. The story ends with a perfect transition and introduction to the next Phoenix member, codename "Fox", who gets his story told in the next book.

Seek by Tina Folsom

Nicholas is a computer genious and for the last 3 years he's been trying to find out why the Phoenix program was compromised. Nick has been trying to hack into the CIA database to find his boss's files so that he can track down other Phoenix members to bring them together in hopes of stopping the people who are trying to kill all the Phoenix members. When Nick finds out the identity of another hacker that's been stopping him from accomplishing his goal, he's ready to use any means necessary to get information from her. But Michelle is getting under his skin and now Nick's not sure if he's seducing her to get information or just because he just wants to because of the attraction he has for her.

Michelle is being blackmailed. The government is forcing her to stop a hacker from accessing CIA files and it's her job to hunt him down. When she meets Nick, she's not sure what to make of him at first. When she learns what he's really after, she starts to doubt herself and Nick and their blossoming relationship. Is there any truth between them? Or is this all just a game?

I really enjoyed the storyline for this book. Very spy verus spy type of story. Very intriguing. The chemistry between Nick and Michelle is so hot! The story integrates perfectly with the first story as the characters from each story find each other and continue the overall series plot.

OVERALL REVIEW

I am really enjoying this series as a whole. A lot of action in each book and the stories flow very well together. The passion each couple have for each other is amazing. Each story is told with enough detail for the reader to get invested in the lives of the characters.

I can't wait to read the next one!

I almost didn't purchase the first book in this series - I thought to myself- am I really going to strike gold again with two authors teaming up to write a series? Well, I did end up buying the first and loving it enough that I wanted to continue with the series.
Both authors complement each other to so very well. It feels like a seamless transition from one book to the next. If I'm honest, I'm not sure which author writes which book. I guess I don't really care which author did the writing because I've been sucked so well into the series.

Is this a standalone book? I think that you could read Hide-Seek as a standalone. The only reason I think this is because you start off with two completely new characters. You do not have an appearance until the last page or so in the second book of an existing person in this person.
Just because I think you could read the book as a standalone, doesn't mean that I do not think you should read the first. I definitely believe in starting a series from the first book and reading in order.

Would I recommend this series to anyone? Yes, I would recommend to those who like a contemporary romance with a slight paranormal twist. Even if your usual read contains vampires, demons, or shifters, I think you might like this series if you give it a chance.

My only real negative (and it's not really a negative, just me being selfish!) is that I wouldn't mind a full-length (300+ pages) read. I've enjoyed both stories significantly.

Am I going to read the next in the series? YES! I want to know where the series is going to go. I want to know who the bad guys really are. I can't wait for the next to be released.

Premonitions of death, destruction, mass-scale obliteration, total annihilation, a conspiracy steeped in blood and fire. To survive they will have to solve the Phoenix code...
When his leader Henry Sheppard was murdered, Phoenix went down, betrayed by unknown enemies. All Phoenix operatives received then the following mental call:
"Assume the worst. Cut all ties. Run and hide. Trust no one. Not even one another."
Phoenix was a top secret program with the CIA involving darkly gifted and dangerously skilled powerful assets. Codenames: Ace, Zephyr (Cut and Run, book 1&2), Stingray, Ranger, Fox (Hide and Seek, book 3&4), all undercover Phoenix operatives now fighting for survival.
They've been tracked and hiding for three years, all of them having recurrent nightmarish premonitions of death and destruction. They know their enemies know their psychic skills will lead them together to prevent what they're preparing, hopefully.
"Resurrect the Phoenix, let them rise once more."
This series is getting better and better. It's a sexy, smart, action-packed, fast-paced thrill ride. I'm addicted to those gorgeous brains and... bodies, eh eh. Lara Adrian and Tina Folsom writing together is a gift for a huge fan. I can't wait to read book 5&6. Bravo.

The reason I am giving this 5 stars is because of Lara part of the book. Tina part of the book I give 3.5 stars.

Hide. I just loved loved loved this. Lara did it again. She gets you hook line and sinker and before you know it your done with the book. Which is always a bummer. John and Lisa were great together. I feel bad for both of them loosing a person. But maybe he will be okay. Guess we will have to wait and see. I can't wait for Lara next book.

Seek by Tina. This book was okay. I could not get into it as much as Lara book. I felt like the book was rushed. Also the ending kinda got me. It was like the whole book flew by in a days time is what it felt like. Then the end was left so much open. I hope we get answers to in the next book. Other than that it was a good book.

A must read series.

Hide and Seek (Phoenix Code books 3 and 4)

Hide:
John is hiding in the mountains ever since he got the code Phoenix down. Lisa just got a text from her brother to hide and the only person she thinks of is John. I loved the action and my heart hurt for Lisa when all of the truth came out about her brother. We get intorduced to Stingray and I hope we get his story.

Seek:
Nick and Michelle the ultimate tech couple. Michelle got caught hacking places she shouldn't and was dragged into trying to find the hacker who was trying to get into CIA servers. Nick being the better Hacker found Michelle and their stroy begins with coffee being spilled and chemstry that melted the software. I am so intrigued by this series and can not wait to read more.

Aimed at mature readers, it is amazing how, even when In mortal danger, these men manage to find women ready to tag along. Why have none of these men ever crossed my path, I wonder?
Like the first two stories, these two are fraught with terror, danger and hope. The ultimate betrayal in 'Hide' was hard to believe. The heartache even more so. The skill sets, willingness to walk straight into the lion's den and the inherent danger in 'Seek' made it an exciting read.
The variations on the nightmare is becoming more intriguing and one cannot help but wonder what the others see and who is on the other end of the glass of iced tea.
The surprise at the end of 'Seek' leaves readers and the Phoenix with hope.
I cannot wait for the next instalment.

Wow Ranger and Fox took my breath away. Then what happened with Lisa and Kyle broke my hart. These stories are so griping and exciting that you can't help but crave more.

Johnny and Lisa with their classic forbidden romance that is ultimately approved by her only living family. I loved the action and excitement as well as the undeniable passion. Stingray had me dieing to find out what his full story is.

Nick and Michelle the ultimate tech couple.. wow. Their game of cat and mouse made you wonder who was the real mouse? Loved the give and take between them. I am so riveted by this series and can not wait to read more.

Passion-Intrigue-Sexy-Hot
The second installment in Lara Adrian and Tina Folsom's Phoenix Code was just as good as the first. The characters are amazing. The passion for life and those they love is unrivalled. If you are a fan of intrigue and suspense then this series is for you. With the covert agents finding each other and the loves of their lives at the same time it can't be a coincidence. I can't wait for the next set of clues in the next book. Lara and Tina work wonderfully well together to share their vision.

This is the 3rd and 4th books in the series and it is coming together really well. Seeing old faces and hoping this will finish up with book 5 or 6, not that I don't like the series, but things seem to be coming together with the plot. The romance is fun but sometimes a little too fast for a characters that have not had a past before. Still see that they belong together but I wish the stories were longer ( that is a compliment by the way) so that the character and relationship development could have been flushed out more but still a very fun read on all accounts.

Two books in one. Two fabulous authors telling stories from one world. Romantic suspense that will leave you breathless. These are books 3 & 4 or the series. We meet more members of the Phoenix team and get ever closer to finding out who is after them and what the dreams may mean. There is love and heartache and action. Lots of action. Another fun read in this series and I anxiously await the next installment.

Not as good as the first one in the series. I thought Hide was the stronger one of the two. Seek seemed more about sex than a story. What did work for me was how more of the Phoenix operatives are finding each other, that they found out how the bad guys are finding them and that the guys from the first 2 stories have connected with these ones. With the files that Fox found the guys should have it a little easier going forward.

Hide : The couple was interesting, as for the first in the previous volume they already know each other so it's easier to believe in their feelings. The plot was good but I was left wondering a lot about the person who betrayed the group.

Seek : I didn't believe in the couple, everything happened too fast and with a wrong beginning, and I didn't like the sex scenes. The plot was okay but not original.

Loved books 3&4 of the Phoenix series. The ongoing story line, all the guys are hot, sexy and have a sense of humor. The gals are matched perfectly with each. Can't wait for 5&6! The shared premonition puzzle is so cool, is Talon gone or will he redeem himself later? Will Stingray find his HEA?! You'll have read this series to find out the answers to these questions and more. So worth it!
