Lamb Ticket is a psychological horror debut exploring themes of paranoia, grief, the supernatural, and an unnerving pagan village holding a family with unforgivable secrets.

Sprout — a 17 year old girl — is looked down upon by her isolated pagan village and her family for being able to witness a crimson spirit who attached to her at conception. When her father makes the decision to take a turn for the worse after her boyfriend disappears, Sprout takes fate back into her own hands — at the expense of her sanity — and must have the patience to save herself and her younger sister.

This book is a descent into blood, gore, and horrors that plague minds around the village. It is filled with Just Desserts and karma--a dish best served bloody. A reoccurring theme of buzzing flies and maddening thoughts.

This book had me wondering if Sprout was insane or everyone else around her was.

Sprout, the villages most hated girl for no reason other than she exists and they think she killed August--the boy--not the month, leads a tragic life. Sprout would never, she loved August.

The only things keeping Sprout from losing herself is, Star, a naked, red demon who seems to pop in when Sprout is having a struggle. Then there is Trick who follows the same comings and goings as his counterpart Star.

Her own mother hates her and treats terribly, and her father has never loved her, much less liked her. The only human friend is her sister, Edith.

When sprout can take no more, she runs, finding how deep the lies of this village go and who started them.

A quick and gripping read! Nimbus writes in an eerily poetic way that will have you straining for the next chapter, the next paragraph, the next word. The contorted world that Sprout lives in is wild and unpredictable. She just wants to keep her sister safe but how can she do that when it seems that all are working against her?

The perfect summerween read!!! This story will have you hooked from the very beginning. Sprout’s story will have you cheering for the demise of an entire town. Sprout is a character that you love, can relate to, and who also doesn’t dream of having 2 demons of your side to protect and save you? I mean hello!!

I like to dive into author's shorter stories before taking on larger projects if I can and V. Nimbus's Lamb Ticket turned out to be a fun little horror short that mixed horror with some solid revenge storytelling. At first, the style threw me off a bit, the POV shifts were a little abrupt, and I had to reset my brain when it jumped around; but once I got into the rhythm, it really clicked. Sprout makes for a FMC, and watching her push back against a whole town that seemed completely against her kept me hooked.

What I liked most was how everything comes full circle. The absurdity of her family, the twisted humor, the revenge elements – none of it ever overpowered the story. The two spirits/demons, Trick and Star, added an extra layer that I really enjoyed, and when they finally were let loose while helping Sprout and Edith escape, it felt like the right payoff for Sprout's revenge. Every person who had wronged her basically got what was coming, and that gave it a kind of HEA, just with a dark, twisted edge.

Everything wrapped up neatly, the revenge hit just right, and I will definitely be doing a re-read come spooky season. V. Nimbus delivered something that’s experimental without being too out there, surreal without losing its footing, and I’d definitely pick up more from them in the future.

I got my hands on Lamb Ticket during a time of depression. A heavy writing and reading slump. Feeling more the outsider in life than usual. When I finished the first chapter, I was keenly aware of a storm cloud gathering above my head. I read it in a single sitting. When I was done, that cloud had left me drenched. This book is bleak, beautiful and sharp. It reminded me why I write and what I look for when reading.
Lamb Ticket is a third person omniscient tale of adolescent obsession, the cruelty of mob mentality and religion, and the kind of pain that only comes from knowing one’s place is not the one they inhabit. Nimbus’ dialogue forgoes realism for a kind of fairy tale exhibitionism that beautifully supports the dark whimsy of the narrative. There’s a raw ache to the prose of each character we’re give the point of view of, even the ones that don’t deserve sympathy. All this more than makes up for the occasionally redundant wording, a few typos and some formatting issues I caught during my read.
A strong and unforgiving debut from an author I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for in the future.

Sprout wishes to be far from where the town whispers haunt her days, where her mother and her fathers words don't pierce her ears. Somewhere she can run to with her sister, Edith, and live their lives happily. How can she do that when the world turns its back on her?
What a captivating read, Lamb Ticket is. Nimbus' writing is lyrical and fluid, pulling you into the story with every word. My heart hurt for these characters, and I wanted to raise a pitchfork, while plotting the ultimate demise of other characters. Nimbus weaves a world of mystery, magic, betrayal, and mayhem in a way that makes you unable to put this eerie story down.
