EN I had my eye on this manga for quite some time — for obvious reasons. Horror and cats: two of my passions.
The reading starts off promising, with large panels showcasing the fantastic art of the illustrator Mecha-Roots. In fact, throughout the entire work, the artwork is, without a doubt, its strongest point.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the story. Despite starting from an interesting concept, the execution falls short. The narrative feels weak, with dialogues that often sound forced or even unnecessary, adding little to what the art already conveys on its own.
Another disappointing aspect was the 13+ age rating. I believe the work would have had much more impact if it had been aimed at an adult audience, where the potential of the theme could have been explored in a deeper and more mature way.
For all these reasons, I’ve decided not to continue with the series. I’ll stick only with the good memory of the artwork, which truly deserves praise.

I refuse to accept a world like this. A hell we can't live with and love cats.
This is a zombie survival horror parody in that if a cat touches you, you turn into a cat and the cats are trying to touch everyone. It's played absolutely serious. There are enough mysteries that I'm curious about the next volume but there are about a hundred things I want to read first.
I don't know about this... Fun enough for a volume, but not sure if I really want to read a whole series?
Cats don't get hurt, in case you're concerned. People run from cats but also want to pet them and love them, so at worst they hose them with water at one point.
All in all, this has a great pandemic horror vibe, but people turning into cats cannot be taken seriously.
It's the cat apocalypse and people are turning into cats. The story is hilarious as it's written as a good, old, very serious zombie apocalypse... But with cats and cat lovers.
5/5 Stars⭐️💫 Night of the Living Cat has been one of my favorite manga discoveries this year—an absolute hidden gem that deserves far more attention. While the premise might sound absurd at first, it’s deceptively clever. Imagine Night of the Living Dead, but instead of fighting off zombies, humanity is struggling to survive against an outbreak of irresistibly cute cats. 🐈⬛️🐾
Am I delusional enough to think I'd survive the zombie apocalypse? Yes. Am I dumb enough to think I'd survive kitty Armageddon? .... No. I'd willingly and openly die via kitty fluff. Don't judge me. No work, no bills. Only meow meow. I would really love to read the next one. Full of cute kitty trivia and dumb deaths that make me think "yeah, I wouldn't mind going that way."
This manga was fun for several reasons. As a cat lover, seeing them being put in a position where they are terrifying but still so cute is just hilarious to me, but the tension they build with these hordes of felines was downright impressive. Another thing I loved was the fact they referenced so many horror properties while conveying their story, like the alien and Ripley reference and a few others that slip my mind at the moment. I really want to get my hands on 2 and 3 as this is only a trilogy.
A clear homage to zombie movies, with some references to Alien as well. The desire of the characters to pet the cats is funny in juxtaposition. At least two characters seem to have some extra powers in relation to cats, which makes me want to keep reading to figure out.
2.5 ... unfortunately a let-down... the synopsis sounded really funny, but the reading experience was very underwhelming... I expected a mix of comedy and horror, however it was kind of boring ... I do not intent to continue the manga series.
The cover drew me in and the story did not let me down. My two favorite things are cats and post apocalyptic stories! This manga was just the right blend of science fiction, action, and humor. Illustrations were fabulously cute. I cannot wait till January for Volume 2. Yes please, bring on the plague of cuddles.
This is an amazing manga. The art style is amazing, the storyline is way more in depth than I expected and the jokes are superb. I can’t wait for the next volume!
An explosion happens in a major catfood factory and some ...labcats escape carrying a virus: when they touch you, you turn into a cat too! 😻😽😾😿🙀😼😹😸😺 Isn't it a great idea? The book follows Kaoru and her friends, who work in cat cafe, through their survival challenge. The question is how do you escape so much cuteness, even if your life depends on it? . . 🥴🥴🥴
As reviewed by one of the first victims of the cat apocalypse
Night of the Living Cat is an amusing homage to B-rated movies and scifi in general with a cuddly twist (let's see if you notice the Aliens reference.) Instead of a zombie apocalypse people are (somehow) shrinking and morphing into domestic felines of various breeds and spreading the morphing disease easily by the simple act of touch. In a world where most people are already enraptured with cats it is no surprise that the epidemic is already dangerously bad as people try to hide from the adorable but catastrophic threat of being turned into a feline.
With the amnesic hero, Kunagi, whose physically impressive moves and encyclopedic knowledge of cats are only matched by his intensive love for them leading the way the internal struggle he experiences is balanced between tragic and humorous as he has to balance protecting those important with him and the possibility that he might anger the cats he leads his human friends away from and the little info dumps in the manga are a fun distractions as...................Meow meow meow meow....hiss.
This first volume was the equivalent to a b-movie and it is great!! 😂 Well, if you like goofy horror b-movies that is! Don’t go into this volume expecting very much. It’s a very fun read though! I will be picking up the next volume!
First things first, this is not a book I would have got myself. My dad got it for me for my birthday last year and I've only just got around to reading it.
Avoiding spoilers where I can.
It's got a really strong start, throwing us right into the action, which I am curious to find out where abouts in the story it actually takes place because there are characters at the end that are missing. It's certainly got the hook.
The art style is awesome, I love it.
Finally, I know it's a spin on the classic zombie stories/movies, but it feels way too cheesy. I get that that's the point, but that's why I rated 4, not 5 stars. I've read mangas with better stories, but this one is just fun and silly.
Note: Always check the back of the book - it will say what age it is intended for (e.g. this one has a label that's blue and says Teen 13+. Tempting to get for an animal loving kid, but best save this one for when they're a bit older.
Certainly will be reading the rest of this series. It's fun, and the story is interesting. I want to see where the author takes it, but it certainly feels like it will follow any other zombie apocalypse story in existence.
I watched the anime first and fell in love with the entire thing (especially the kitties), and so I just had to read the manga. I loved this so much, the story is so silly yet cute (and kind of intense and eerie) and the artwork is so cool. I love Kunagi, his mystery as to who he is has me hooked, and Kaoru is just as awesome. I can't wait to read the rest, as a cat lover this manga hits all the meow-rks!
As a horror fan, I really enjoyed this manga. It’s such a fun concept and whether you’re a zombie lover or a cat lover or both, I feel like there’s something in this story for you. There was a particular part of the story that mirrored “The Mist” for me, and I loved that! I’m so excited that Volume 2 is out now, and I don’t have to wait long to continue this story!
