This time, she comes first. No matter the cost.

Life with her husband had become an endless waiting game: waiting for him to return from missions, waiting for a baby that never came, waiting for his mother to accept her. So after years of IVF, loneliness, and endless heartbreak, Indie Reed made the impossible choice—she left her husband. But a year later, shortly after returning her unsigned divorce papers, Colt comes home…and Indie needs to decide if she’s strong enough to let him in again.

One mistake cost Colt Reed the most important thing in his life: his wife. Now he’s left the Marines for one reason—to get her back. It wasn’t a sacrifice; it was a decision. Because one year without her felt like a lifetime. He didn’t choose her when he should have. Didn’t notice how his job was affecting her…how she spiraled deeper into depression with each failed round of IVF…or how his own family was treating her. Now, he won’t stop fighting until Indie understands she’s his only priority.

But as Indie and Colt begin to rebuild what’s broken, not only does his mother turn out to be more of an obstacle than he ever imagined…but the deadbeat father he hasn’t seen in more than twenty-five years suddenly returns. And it’s far from a happy reunion.

This was a cute and quick read. Were some things overdramatic and cliché? Yes, but I always like to pick up NK’s books when I just need a palate cleanser or something to turn my brain off and this did the job.

Unbroken is book four in the Amber series by Nyssa Kathryn. Indie Reed wanted to be a mother; for Indie, motherhood has not been forthcoming, even with IVF intervention, which caused friction in her relationship with her husband, Colt, and she wanted a divorce. However, Colt did not want a divorce and left the Marines to come home and save his marriage. On arrival, he found out someone wanted to kill Indie. The readers of Unbroken will continue to follow Indie and Colt Reed to discover what happens.

Unbroken started me thinking about IVF and its role for women who want children, and the issues when it does not work. Additionally, I began to understand the challenges faced by former military personnel in transitioning back to civilian life after serving for many years within the military community. Unbroken is another fantastic book by Nyssa Kathryn, and it is an excellent addition to this tremendous series. I engaged with the characters and the plot from the first page, which caused me to forget about sleeping until the end of the book.

I love Nyssa Kathryn's portrayal of her characters and their interactions with each other throughout this book. Unbroken is well-written by Nyssa Kathryn.. I appreciate Nyssa Kathryn's description of the settings in Unbroken, which enabled me to envision myself as part of the book's plot.

Thank you to the author for my ARC in exchange for an honest review. I recommend this book.

I wanted to love this like everyone else, but Indie made her whole worth being around having a baby.. and maybe that’s something I’ll never understand since I am not having kids. But I can sympathize with those going through this process I can’t even begin to imagine the heartbreak you’d feel over trying to get pregnant and nothing works. I guess I shouldn’t have picked up this book since I was on the fence if it would have worked for me.. idk I thought it would go another way… 🤷‍♀️

Also Silvia got off easy… and Colt.. idk I wanted to like him but some of his behaviors didn’t work for me.

Overall this wasn’t a win for me.

Over the top

I love the second chance for a married couple trope, but this one just didn't cut it for me. The drama was over the top--Indie gets injured by bad guys not once, not twice, but three times. She's struggled with infertility for six years, then conveniently gets pregnant. Her mother in law treats her horribly for years, but she suddenly "understands" that she's just "trying to protect" her grown ass man of a son, who has been oblivious to her mistreatment for years. Even the "bad guys" part gets all too conveniently wrapped up.

This authors books are always such a good quick read for me - romance with some grovel, drama and suspense. It’s like a great palate cleanser from some more heavy fantasy reads. This is the first I’ve read from this series and now I want to go back and read the others!

Indie and Colt were high school sweethearts. Happily married, Indie having her photography business and Colt being in the marines. But things started to fall apart when they tried to start their own family. Years of struggles with infertility and then doing IVF and Colt being deployed - slowly broke them apart until it ended their marriage. But Colt was determined to get Indie back. After a year separated, Colt leaves the marines and moves back home to win back the only woman he’s ever wanted. Indie is just finding solid ground - having been working on herself and her mental health the last year, she thinks she is finally ready to move forward on her own, to make herself her top priority - until Colt comes back determined to win her back. As the two try to navigate their past and see if they have a future, Colts estranged father comes back to town and unleashes danger and trouble to everyone Colt loves. Will he be strong enough to protect them? Can he keep his wife safe and prove he is the husband she needs?

5 ✨ (Story and Audio)

First, I would like to express my gratitude to BNA and Nyssa Kathryn for providing me with an advance copy of this audiobook. I am obsessed with Nyssa's storytelling, and I consider myself really lucky whenever I see that BNA email letting me know that I will be diving back into Amber Ridge.

For fans of Catherine Cowles, Devney Perry, Claire Kingsley, Victoria Wilder and all those wonderful women who add suspense into their romances.... Nyssa is your next read. And lucky for you, if this is the first book for you... She's got a fantastic back catalogue of GEMS!

Okay - I have to first mention that when I was reading Untouched, we got to see a lot of buildup to this story, and I had high expectations. Clara and Indie talking about her failing divorce had me pining for Colt with her. And already really frustrated with the... mother-in-law.

Indie and Colt were high school sweethearts. They got married and lived happily ever after... until things got hard. Their relationship really went through a lot of challenges. But despite it all, they never stopped loving each other, even with the divorce papers hot off the printer. With Colt returning to Amber Ridge to fight for his marriage, he finds out that there has been a lot happening that he didn't know about.

I have given each book in this series five stars, but Colt and Indie are the best couple I have read of Nyssa's. Their story faces a lot of hard-hitting, triggering topics (check your trigger warnings), but the writing/emotions feel so genuine and raw. I really felt like I was going through it all with Indie. And when Colt starts learning more about what he's been missing, oof. The whole time, I could understand where Indie was coming from - but I was cheering on Colt the entire time. "Go get your girl!"

The suspense was suspensing. I found the suspense paced well with the story and kept you intrigued in that as much as their reconciliation. While I may have predicted a little bit of where the story was going, Nyssa threw in some curveballs to keep you guessing.

Audiobook: 5 stars!!
Maxine Mitchell, in my opinion, is a legendary rockstar when it comes to Suspense Romance. When I see her name in one, I know that she is going to nail every single emotion. I know that I am going to connect with that character and that she's going to have my heart racing when that suspense kicks in. And she delivered! No surprise at all!

JF Harding is a very talented voice actor. I have always enjoyed listening to his narration. However, most of the audiobooks I have heard from him are usually more contemporary, like Meghan Quinn or fantasy like Holly Renee. But I think I need to find more of his suspense books, because he absolutely sold his character. And his "My wife" - chef's kiss.

Favourite couple from Amber Ridge!!

Going into this book, I knew it was going to be an emotional ride—and wow, was I right. There were multiple moments that had me tearing up, not just for Indie, but for Colt too. Their pain felt so raw and real, and I was completely pulled into their story from the start.

I was honestly counting down the days until this book released. The little snippets we got from the previous book had me hooked, and I couldn’t wait to finally get Colt and Indie’s full story. It did not disappoint.

What really stood out to me was how deeply Colt loves Indie. He never stopped loving her—not for a second—and he’s not afraid to show it. That kind of steady, unwavering love? Ugh, my heart. Watching them slowly find their way back to each other was both heartbreaking and beautiful. Their journey wasn’t easy, and that made every little moment of healing feel earned.

Now, let’s talk about Colt’s mom for a sec… After everything she put Indie through, I really wish there had been more of a sincere apology. It felt like she was forgiven a little too quickly, and I couldn't help but want more accountability from her. But maybe that’s just me being petty—Indie is clearly the bigger person, and I admire her strength and ability to move forward. I’m not sure I could’ve done the same.

Also, the suspense in this book? So good! It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Every twist and reveal kept me flipping pages, needing to know what would happen next.

Overall, this book delivered all the feels—from heartbreak to healing—and I loved every second of it. If you're into second chances, emotional rollercoasters, and characters who genuinely grow, this one’s worth the read.

Quick Summary: A second chance, military romance

My Review: Unbroken by Nyssa Kathryn is book #4 in the Amber Ridge series. It was released on 9/12/25.

About the Book: "This time, she comes first. No matter the cost."

In My Own Words: A Marine inadvertently neglects the needs of his wife in order to tend to his mother. When she had to deal with her infertility issues alone at a critical point while he ran to assist his mother, she chose a better course for her life. He soon realized his mistake, but it cost him dearly. Now, his past is coming back to haunt him in the worst way, putting the woman he loves in the crossfire.

What I Liked:

- I really liked that it showed how marital relationships can be when dealing with IVF, as well as how it affects a woman holistically.

- The wife versus mother scenario was interesting to watch. I think the author showed, in this respect, how it can sometimes be a tug-of-war. I also appreciated that she showed what was behind the curtain of the emotions and feelings related to releasing a loved one into the care of another.

- I liked the community of secondary characters. Little glimpses into the small town populace got my attention.

- The pending PTSD story was planted well. The fact that the person of interest is a decent guy who is trying to understand what's happening to him made it all the more appealing.

My Final Say: This was a good story. It dealt with some very serious issues, which created tension, awareness, and entertainment. Some of the extra, concerning the suspense/drama, was extra, but it did not detract from the overall romance.

Based on this book, I do plan to look further into the series.

I have to be honest, I wanted a little more groveling for a certain person who has made it her mission in life to ruin Indie. I mean, we find out why she’s how she is, but oh, I wanted more misery for her. Especially because she’s the cause of SO much heartache and deliberately tried to destroy everything. But I guess forgiveness and the “you need to give it time and we don’t know how much time that means” stance is the way to go.

Colt and Indie had a hard road back to each other, but once Colt figured out exactly what had really come between them, he’s all about fixing it. He does a LOT of work to do exactly that, too. Even with the mysteries and danger around them, he’s all about Indie and only Indie because she is his heart and his world. I do love his verbal smackdowns to those who try to play him, too.

Even with all of this going on, I find myself angry at another who isn’t even in town yet. I know once we see that person, we’re in for a lot of angst and some hurt feelings coming to the surface, but I can’t wait for that to come our way.

It was more about his worthless Father

And his mom was mean as hell too! she treated Indie terrible and spread rumors and a lot of awful stuff. I didn't like her. They made up at like 25% of the book and then it was all about the evil father trying to steal money. He hurt the heroine several times. Kidnapped her and choked her. It was a mess. But their.love was solid.

I’m not sure how she does it but once again, I was immediately hooked by the storyline and couldn’t put Unbroken down. This fourth book in the Amber Ridge series is every bit as fantastic as the first three with an amazing second-chance romance and an extremely exciting suspense element.

Indie and Colt Reed are this story's lead characters, and I absolutely loved them as a couple. The heartache Indie went through for the last couple of years they were married is very real, and unfortunately, many couples experience this same trauma. This very difficult topic is handled so well, nothing is sugar-coated, yet nothing is explicit either. Be warned this is an emotional read at times that had me tearing up but at other times I was chuckling from the fun banter between the characters.

Colt is an absolute gem and apart from being a bit of a Mumma’s boy—this is explained though—his devotion to Indie is pure. Indie decided to get help from a professional over Colt’s last year in the military and it certainly helped with so much. The chemistry between these two characters is almost tangible and I definitely was cheering them on the whole way through.

It is great to have previous characters in the story, it feels like you are a part of their family too. Colt’s mother may have had some unfortunate trauma in her early years of marriage but she really is a piece of work all on her own! This is a stand-alone in the series but the previous book gave us a glimpse of Colt’s mother’s character and this book cemented it. I admit I wanted to slap her silly—remember my warning about emotions? Yep, anger and fear are also embraced.

The suspense is written extremely well, embedded into the story with little snippets of clues yet it’s not until the end that all is revealed—as it should be!

Another brilliant story that I literally couldn’t put down and read it from cover to cover in one sitting.

Another Amber Ridge book I couldn't put down. I was really looking forward to more of Cole's mother's dynamic with Indie in this one and it did not disappoint. Nyssa did not hold back, and that relationship really became such an integral plot point. Nyssa did such a good job with it. It gave me the ick feels, made me mad and I love that while forgiveness was on the table, it was not a done deal by the end of the book and that there was still work to be done. Cause I don't know if I could be as, not forgiving, but understanding as Indie was. She still created her boundaries but did not begrudge Cole's relationship with his mother and oof, good on Indie, cause that woman is a piece of work.

I also loved how Cole 100% picked Indie over his mom once he realized how toxic she was to Indie. He was on her side from the start and believed everything she said about past interactions, no questions asked. Gah, I love the way Nyssa writes men. Cole might be my favorite of the series so far and that bar is high, given how much I love all these books. He is flawed. He let Indie down; he unknowingly let himself be manipulated by his mother, he didn't understand but he gave Indie what she needed at the time, even though it broke his own heart. But he never gave up. He never considered for one second that Indie was not going to be his wife. I loved him so much. His love for Indie seeped through the pages as did her love for him. I love a strong FMC and Indie fit the bill. She clawed her way back to life out of the dark pit she had fallen into. This storyline deals with such a heartbreaking subject that I am sure is close to many readers experiences and struggles. While I cannot directly relate to what Indie went through, I felt her emotion and fear in falling back to that dark place. While all of the Amber Ridge books are romantic suspense, I feel this one had added elements to it with the mental health struggles Indie goes through and it read very realistic to me and took me through the ringer.

Cole's father made for a great villain. The action and suspense were top notch as usual. I can't wait for the next book, especially with intense interaction between Noah and Addie at the end. Noah needs some healing, and Addie is just the gal to help!

Since meeting Indie and knowing her story from the previous books, I knew this one was going to be emotional…so the tissues were ready and yes…they were needed. Indie and Colt have been separated for a year, she’s trying to move on and start over and has the divorce papers ready to be finalized. Colt is not giving up on his marriage or Indie, she is his ONE and ONLY and will do whatever it takes to get her back. First step is leaving the marines, come home for good and fight for his wife. It’s not going to be easy, Indie has fought back from the darkness and has changed, and he doesn’t know his mom has been gaslighting her for years. They have never stopped loving each other and as the two try to reconnect, all the hurt, secrets, his mom and Colt’s past resurfaces which puts a wrench into their reunion and the HEA they deserve.
Couldn’t put the book down, tears and smiles, suspense, surprises, twists and turns, steam, and amazing characters kept me flipping the pages. Colt, WOW, he did not disappoint as he showed Indie that he was all in and put her first, proving that he would do whatever it took to get her back. Indie who needed the space to come back from the darkness, to heal and become stronger, never loses her compassion or empathy. Story flowed beautifully without skipping a beat with descriptions that were spot on….LOVED IT.

I have been so looking forward to Indie and Colt's story after meeting Indie in previous books from this series. The book pulls you right into the story from the very first page. An absolute page turner. It's not just a love story; it's about two people finding their way back to each other and fighting for what they lost.

Indie and Colt are childhood sweethearts, but have hit some really tough times and with Colt working away, Indie feels like she's alone in the relationship. Indie's decision to leave him after so much heartbreak was a hard decision to make for her, especially when she knows she still loves him. She's a strong person just trying to protect her own heart. When Colt comes back, he's determined to show Indie that she means the world to him, and you can feel how much he wants to fix his mistakes. Their journey to rebuild their trust feels real.

The book has this great mix of romance and suspense. Colt's overbearing mom and the sudden return of his long-lost dad add some serious problems that they have to face together. These family issues create all the suspense for the story. I do wish Colt's mother had been held more accountable for everything she did though.

The duet narration by Maxine Mitchell and JF Harding was spot on, and the voices matched perfectly to the characters. They did a perfect job of immersing you into the story.

I love seeing all the characters from the other books appearing in the story. Looks like it's Noah's turn next...

We are back in Amber Ridge for an emotional and heart tugging story. We have caught glimpses of Indie and Colt, in past books. Getting their full story takes us on a roller coaster of emotions and struggles. This will not be an easy read for some, pay attention to the trigger warnings. This is life as many have lived, and told with grace and attention that subjects deserve. Add in suspense and drama, putting the book down became difficult.

Indie Reed wants to be a mom, her body is not co-operating, her IVF is down to the last egg. Her husband, a Marine, is leaving again, when she needs him. She files for divorce. Colt loves Indie and returns home to save his marriage. There is danger lurking, and many things Colt has not been aware of in his absence.

In one of the best book this author has written to date, everything was working, the suspense, the twists, drama, my interest never wavered, I needed to know how this was all going to work out!

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Unbroken is the 4th book in the Amber Ridge series and a deeply emotional second-chance romance about heartbreak, healing, and the courage to fight for love. After years of loneliness, IVF struggles, and feeling like she wasn’t enough, Indie Reed made the hardest choice of all—walking away from her marriage. But when Colt returns home determined to prove she’s always been his everything, she must decide if she can open her heart again.

Colt’s journey is just as raw—haunted by mistakes and determined to finally put Indie first, he lays down his career and pride to fight for their future. Together, they face family wounds, painful pasts, and the obstacles standing between them.

This is a story of resilience and devotion, where love is tested by loss and strengthened by forgiveness. Indie and Colt’s journey reminds us that sometimes the hardest battles are the ones fought for the people who matter most.

Indie and Colt have been separated for a year. Between failed IVF treatments, Colt being in the military and often being gone, and a not-so-great mother in law, Indie was drowning and the only thing she could think to do was leave. Now, Colt is out of the military and is determined to get his wife back, even though she did try and get him to sign divorce papers. It is a battle around ever corner for these two, fighting their past and present, but in the end is their love and passion for each other strong enough?

This was a GREAT addition to the Amber Ridge series. Nyssa Kathryn does a phenomenal job with world building and we get to check in with characters we already know and love. Both Indie and Colt are complex enough to keep you interested and relatable enough to keep you wanting more. A must read for all!

Things I Loved:
He calls her Cricket
He brings her coffee
Indie and Clara’s friendship
Adventure Park

I loved this second chance romance! I was invested from the start and could not put this one down. After a year separated, Colt comes back for good from his time in the military. He decides he will not sign the divorce papers, instead he puts in the work and shows Indie that they can get back what they once had. The struggles they went through and the tough conversations they had made their relationship so much stronger. This heartbreaking story was beautiful written, their connection and chemistry was so strong, and I am happy they worked through everything to get their HEA. If you are looking for a second chance romantic suspense with a protective MMC, I recommend this one!

The 4th book in the Amber Ridge series by Nyssa Kathryn. I have not read any other books in this series. Thankfully, I didn't need to. Might have made me appreciate some of the other characters if I had but no biggie.
Indie wants a baby and tried IVF but no good. Her husband is a marine and gone a lot. Feeling broken, Indie kicks Colt out of her life. Fast forward one year. Colt is out of the Marines. And he wants his wife back.
There is some drama with Indie's mother in law and a threat from Colt's past that keeps the story moving. I enjoyed it

This is the fourth book in this series and one that I have been waiting to read. We learnt about Indie in Clara's book so I was excited to find out more about her and Colt and, wow, I knew it would be emotional, it was so much more. This story literally breaks your heart before it puts it back together again. The depth of these characters and what makes them relatable gives you an indication of how good a writer Nyssa Kathryn is. It deals with loss and grief, dealing with deployment and several family issues, it doesn't hold back. The drama, action and suspense literally grabs you. I couldn't put this book down and had to read in one sitting.

This just gave me all the feels. Colt and Indie's story is full of pain, heartache, and loss but also full of love, hope, and passion. It is an emotionally packed story dealing with some very sensitive topics, and Nyssa Kathryn has shown skills in writing them so thoughtfully and brilliantly that you can help but congratulate her on such a fantastic book.

There is no doubt you will love this book. You'll fall completely for Indie and Colt and, once again, frustratingly admit, you have another new favourite couple 😁🥰

What an amazing emotional read. Indie and Colt were an established couple, totally in love. But the heartbreak of multiple failed IVF and conflict with her MIL had Indie drowning in her own misery. She separated from Colt because she couldn't see a way out. A year later she's done a lot to heal and feels in a much better place, even contemplating IVF again, as a single woman. Just one thing. Colt never signed the divorce papers and he's come home from being in the marines and has one mission, winning back his wife. I felt as if they both should have done more communicating in the past, but it's easy to have 20/20 hindsight. The mother was a piece of work and I don't know that I would have been as nice as Indie was in trying to fix their conflict. The additional conflict was c-ra-zy and I'm glad it was resolved the way it was. This story was an emotional rollercoaster with the addition of the infertility issues, but we had an amazing HEA.

Unbroken follows Colt and Indie. Loved this book and Colt and Indie’s characters.
Colt and Indie got together when they were teenagers. However, Colt joined the marines and they had to go through IVF. This placed a strain on their marriage and Indie struggled with depression without the support of Colt being there. With no parents left of her own, Indie felt alone, coupled with Colt’s mum snide remarks Indie felt the only way to refind herself was to leave Colt. The book picks back up a year later when Colt has left the marines and come home to save his marriage. He’s refused to sign divorce papers and is determined to win Indie’s trust back. But along the way Colt has to face his mother, and how she’s treated his wife as well as his abusive father who reappears on the scene bringing danger with him. Love all the books in this series - all great characters and easy to read.

There’s a lot going on in this book, and the h goes through A LOT of crap. I mean who gets kidnapped twice, threatened twice? Or was it three times for both. Look what ever it was she went through a lot. The H was all in regardless of his over needy mother who wanted all her sons attention and hated his wife.. you can see where that is going. A solid read

Emotional, Gripping and Action-packed
Indie and Colt love each other, but infertility and in-laws have driven them apart. Indie needed time to rebuild herself, but now Colt is back in town; he’s never given up on their marriage, and he’s ready to put Indie first. I loved this book - Indie and Colt were so intense, and the action was non-stop. The interactions with Sylvia felt so authentic - accurate friction and a non-instantaneous resolution. I loved seeing everyone from the previous books as well - it felt like a reunion. I’m looking forward to many more returns to Amber Ridge.

Book 4 in the Amber Ridge series by this author and it is a second chance romantic suspense story.
After meeting Colt and Indie in Untouched it was pretty obvious that this was going to be emotional. We learned that they separated and Indie has been attempting to get a divorce from Colt all while he was refusing to sign because he was coming home to win her back.
Such and intense and emotional story. Some triggers for people struggling with fertility and bad MIL's
But a great stiry and well wirth the read.

After reading Untouched I had hints of what was happening with Colt and Indie. It didn’t give me the bigger picture, but I knew they were separated and Colt wanted to win her back. Knowing all that, it still didn’t prepare me for this story. It was soooo emotional! Then adding in all the drama, danger and suspense. This story was my favourite book in the series so far.

Slight upgrade from the last mess, but still circling the drain.
Indie’s whole vibe was martyr with a side of mixed signals.
“I need space” → immediately climbs her husband like a jungle gym.
(Girl, if you want a divorce, maybe stop dry-humping your indecision.)
