Ian and Lacey Carlisle are no strangers to struggle within their marriage. Having lost many battles with infertility, Ian and Lacey’s relationship has suffered drastically and brought them to a place far beyond repair. After agreeing to an informal separation, Ian and Lacey navigate life apart, with just one exception—they both work for Seattle’s top consulting firm, making interactions inevitable.
As the months pass, Ian and Lacey find themselves periodically backsliding into the familiar comfort of each other’s arms. While these moments allow Ian to grow certain that their separation was a mistake, Lacey doesn't believe that Ian truly wants to salvage what they once had.
Wanting nothing more than to focus on her career, Lacey's life becomes interesting when a new neighbor moves in across the street. Impossibly attractive, Logan Hayes is not only tall, dark, and handsome, but he possesses an intrigue that immediately draws Lacey in. Just when Lacey feels that moving on may be a possibility, Ian sends Lacey’s emotions into a whirlwind when he finally admits his feelings. Quickly caught in a love triangle, Lacey finds herself in a dangerous situation when things take an unexpected turn.
I loved this book on so many levels but I will keep my review short and sweet. This is the story of a woman who is lost in her grief over multiple traumatic miscarriages and her subsequent separation from her husband. This leaves her perfectly vulnerable for her world to be flipped upside down.
The 3 main reasons I think you should read the book are as follows: 1. This book runs the gamut of emotions, it will have you chuckling, crying, and chilled to the bone. 2. This is a very fast-paced read, coming in at around 300 pages, I read this in two days because I just HAD TO KNOW! 3. There is a very strong friendship in this book. At its core this is a love story, but that story isn't between our couple, it's the love story of two best friends. Our FMC has a ride or die bestie that spends the entire book trying to tell her that her new situation has red flags that are so scarlet they are maroon, while also trying to be as supportive of her as possible. I loved it. Gobbled it up. They are 100% the real love story.
BONUS: If you want to get a little deeper, this story explores the way that being in an emotionally vulnerable place can cause people to miss some obvious signs that they are in danger... because they just want to feel something.
In Conclusion: Read this book and then call me so we can talk about it!
Surviving August was one of those books that had me feeling everything.
It’s about a woman going through the kind of grief that changes you—multiple miscarriages, a marriage falling apart, and trying to figure out who she is on the other side of all that pain. You feel it in your chest.
It’s fast, it’s messy, it’s emotional. I flew through it in two days because I had to know how it ended. And yes, there’s a love triangle, but the friendship in this book? That’s the real love story. Her best friend was ride or die and I ate up every second of it.
Also… it gets dark. Like, things take a turn and I wasn’t ready. If you’re into emotionally heavy, character-driven stories with drama, tension, and a little danger, definitely read this one. Then message me so we can scream about it together.
I’ve found yet another auto-buy indie author and I am here for it! This book is not what it seems by the cover. I loved the storyline and how fast paced this is. The author drops little hints that make you think “hmm what is going on” without giving anything away while keeping you invested the whole time. The cover is beautiful and suggests some kind of romance story, but this book is so much more than that. I loved every minute of it!
I loved this book! It read like a Lifetime movie. The marital struggles felt realistic and so relatable. The addition of the love triangle adds intrigue and fun that really made the book hard to put down.
Absolutely loved this book! The friendship between the FMC and her best friend was to die for. The second half of this book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
LOVED. This book constantly kept me on my toes. The plot of the book was well written and I didn’t see the ending coming! I can’t wait to read the next one!!
This book had me hooked from the start. Lea did a great job of confusing me and really making me question what I was supposed to be feeling about Logan. I kept going back and forth between liking him and not liking him, which I'm assuming is exactly what she was going for. The ending was gripping and had me on the edge of my seat. I knew there was a twist coming, but this one definitely shocked me! Highly recommend!
