I absolutely loved this book, it’s the perfect cozy small-town romance for fall. Natalie is plus-sized, in her 40s, and so incredibly relatable. It was refreshing to read about a heroine who feels closer to my own age and experience, and her story really tugged at my heart.
The vibes are everything I wanted: a little spooky with ghosts and monsters, but also full of charm, comfort, and community. And the romance? Slow-building, tender, and just the right amount of grumpy/sweet tension. I smiled, I got misty-eyed, and I didn’t want to put it down.
If you’re looking for a heartwarming romance with autumn vibes, lovable characters, and a heroine you’ll instantly root for, this one is such a treat. Thanks to Twisted Takes PR for the gifted book.
When I think of cozy, Halloween/spooky romance this is what I’m talking about! This was full of moments that tugged at my heart strings, made me cry, laugh, cozy small town vibes, monsters, and finding love at the least expected time and place.
Natalie is a 40 year old woman who is at rock bottom. Her mother just passed from cancer, her romantic life has been a total shit show, and after being her mom’s caretaker for the last 6 years she’s being evicted. Lindsey, her best friend, has an empty house sitting in Mapletown and it seems like the perfect solution, except it’s haunted by Winston.
Winston’s grumpy, with a life just as tragic and he’s been dead for 102 years. Natalie and Winston are adorable. They’re both obsessed with the other and I was constantly kicking my feet or straight up blushing!🤭
I also loved all of the side characters! They might be a town full of monsters, but they showed up arms wide open to welcome Natalie, and were so full of love and community. I cannot wait to see who gets to have their happily ever after in the next book!🥹
Thank you so much to the author and Twisted Tales PR for the gifted copy!!
I’m not sure when it happened, but at some point, this curvaceous, clumsy crumb-dropper became the centre of my universe.
“Winston, you haven’t had sex in over a century. Did you really think you’d be able to last?”
AGHHH. Proper feet-kicking-uncontrollable-giggles mode. I absolutely adored the connection between Winston and Natalie!
This story is rather fast paced which I loved, just dived right into our main character Natalie who moves to Mapletown following her mothers death - stripping her identity bare after caring for her nearly her whole adult life. Now, mid forties, Natalie feels kinda lost and is ready to turn a new page. I loved Natalie’s character because she’s always had a hard time with love, and particularly accepting her body. This shows in all her male encounters and it was really refreshing to read about a plus size woman struggling to love herself, as painful as parts of it were!
Her best friend lets her move into a home she’s inherited, while Natalie gets back on her feet. Unbeknownst to Lindsay and Natalie; the house in inhabited by the ghost of grumpy Winston who was left behind when he died, one hundred and twenty something years ago.
“Clothing is cheaper than it was in my day. I know that. A new pair of underwear is, what, thirty cents?”
Natalie and Winston do NOT get along well at first, however their hatred begins to bleed into the summer as time goes on, blurring the sharp, barbed edges of their rebuttals when all of a sudden they’re kissing in the lake and you’re gushing for them!!
While this was sweet and light hearted, the themes bound to the characters like Winston and Ethel are thought provoking and carry a tinge of sadness. It made me love the writing even more, as someone who’s been kissed by the threat of losing my loved one it felt very personal and just really beautiful. Felt my little heart cracking a wee bit when we learn about why Winston is still living in his house…. Gosh that stung. 😭
- I absolutely cackled at the sympathy Vyla gave her upon learning she was straight. LOL! And… “I already bought six bags of Doritos. How many bags do you typically eat per meal??”
- whenever Winston made a meal for her I wanted to crawl into the pages.
- Winston’s baffled disgust when Natalie suggests dog earing the page as a bookmark was fucking adorable. Storming off to see if she’s dine to to her own books, then holding them out of reach and saying she can have them back when she learns to treat books properly…. Adorable
- the SPICE!! Such delicious descriptions and insanely hot sex, just so so good! I’ll always love plus size rep and this was just, chefs kiss.
- the epilogue made me cry. I won’t spoil it but it was a lovely, heartwarming ending to such a delicately sweet book.
Thank you so much for my eARC of this copy. I absolutely LOVED it!
A small town, grumpy x sunshine, paranormal romance with a few nicely spicy scenes. Meet Natalie, single, in her 40's and about to become homeless. She's also recently lost her mom to cancer and struggling to find work due to her patchy CV. Employers don't care that the gaps in employment were down to her caring for her mom. Enter Lindsay, the best friend, with an incredible solution to Natalies problems. She's just inherited a ramshackle Victorian mansion from her grandmother and she doesnt have time in her busy life to sort it out. So, she offers it to Natalie as a solution to both their problems - Natalie can live there until she gets back on her feet, and Lindsay has someone there to deal with repairs and renovations while she gets on with her own stuff. What Natalie doesn't realise though, is that the house comes with an unexpected roommate. Winston is a 100 and something year old ghost who would just like to spend his afterlife in his house in peace and quiet thankyou very much. Natalie soon discovers that Winston is not the only supernatural being in town. In fact, the rules of living in Mapletown is that you must be a monster or monster descendant, or be invited to live there by someone with monster blood. As Natalie and Winston slowly fall for each other, they realise that even a supernatural relationships aren't without a few bumps in the night.
Although the majority of romance novels follow the same formula, this being no exception, what Ivy Knox has given us here is a super sweet, low stakes cosy story between human and ghost, with an absolutely delightful side cast of quirky creatures, who I really hope we hear more from! Despite both Natalie and Winston having some pretty heavy trauma that is discussed between them, the story is still cute, fun and heartwarming with some genuine laugh out loud moments. The banter between Natalie and Winston, especially towards the beginning when they aren't all that fond of each other, is absolutely hilarious, whilst the love and attention that they show toward each other, particularly during the heavier conversations, is truly adorable.
Adored by the Grumpy Ghost by Ivy Knox ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mapletown Monster Mates (Book 1)
This was such a good read!
Not only was it as cozy and comforting as a hot cuppa on a rainy day it also had key moments of real emotional depth and sensitivity. The depiction of grief was beautifully handled and I cried right alongside Natalie several times.
Natalie’s journey to loving her body the way it is is something most people can relate to and Winston’s obsession with the softest parts of her that have always been sticking points for (the probably small d***ed morons) of her past healed the reader alongside the FMC.
A part that particularly stuck with me was how lived and raw Natalie’s pain/ grief spiral came across-
“It’s like, I’m too tired to smile’”
Winston’s lack of self worth is also heart-breaking and Natalie’s ability to love without inhibition is admirable, if more people had that ability the world would be a better and kinder floating rock to inhabit.
I loved the build up of the relationship between these two, you yearn when they yearn, love when they love and cry when they cry.
Thank you to @twistedtalespr and @ivyknox for the ARC, I loved it!

“I touched your stomach because I love it...your stomach, your eyes, your ass, those lips-every single part of you is fucking perfect, Natalie. I haven’t been able to think about anything else since the day you moved in. All I want to do is touch you.”
This book had everything I loved in it and more!
The world building of Maplewood was beautiful, reading about the various supernatural citizens was great and learning alongside Natalie what they are and how the town works as a whole was great to read about.
The greif that both Natalie and Winston face through the book did make me cry, I won’t lie. Reading about their struggles, their lives, their emotions really hit home in some ways, but it also brought them closer after those walls came down on both ends. As someone who’s also learning how to love my bigger body, I completely connect with Natalie on that aspect and reading about her journey with that was wonderful and honestly gives me a boost of confidence when it comes to my own journey with this.
The yearning that Winston does is just *chef’s kiss* the inner monolgues, the posessiveness and dominant nature he shows is attractive as hell and makes the spicy scenes even that much hotter.
This book introduces you to a hauntingly beautiful romance that is one for the ages. Everyone needs to meet Winston the grumpy ghost, and Natalie, a grieving woman who is trying to find her way. I related to Natalie so much, and saw a little of myself in her with trying to figure out her life. Some scenes really hit home for me, and I was cheering her on as she figured what she wanted for herself.
Winston though? UGH I'M IN LOVE. He might be our grumpy ghost, but he had heart eyes only for her. The way he provided for her, cared for her, immersed her in his world. It had my heart swooning several times. I just wanted to live in their little world. Ivy does a beautiful job of detailing both of their heartaches, and showing us just how much they needed each other. I couldn't put this book down and got pretty sad when I finished it. Throw in lovable characters, this gorgeous victorian mansion, AND a cozy small town? Somewhere my bags are already being packed for Mapletown, and I want a grumpy ghost of my own.
THIS!!!!!! I love ghost romances and those one hit the spot. After spending years as her mother's primary care giver, only having temporary jobs and draning her savings her mother dies leaving her grief striken and with limited resources. Her friend comes to her rescue offering her a free house to live in. Its in this house she meets Winston, the grumpy ghost that will show her what it is to be loved and cared for like she deserves. This small towns cozy monster vibe made me feel at home, like all are accepted and welcomed, the side characters are amazing. Going back to the main characters, the chemistry was magical. It might have started rocky but both still show kindness from the very start. The depiction of grief is as it should be complex and non linear and raw and powerful. This is both lovely and heart wrenching a really roller-coaster that got me questioning how it would end... simply amazing
Natalie has just lost her mum to cancer, and is broke and about to be evicted. Her best friend just inherited a house so she offers her to stay there. That’s where she meets Winston, the grumpy ghost who can’t leave the grounds . He’s appalled at her messiness, she hates his rules over ‘his’ house. A match made in hell. Until it’s not, and the close proximity changes how they feel. Winston realises he hates being alone, and enjoys the company, and Natalie sees what true love should feel like.
This book had me feeling book drunk. I devoured this entire story in only a few hours. I loved Winston with every piece of my heart. The way he treats Natalie like the queen she is. It’s beautiful .
✨✨ARC REVIEW✨✨ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ ‼️‼️CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS‼️‼️ Natalie the FMC is a plus sized lady in her 40’s dealing with the recent loss of her mother and trying to find out who she is and what she wants out of life. Her friend offers for her to stay at the mansion she inherited when Natalie faces eviction from the home she shared with her mother. At this manor she discovers there is more out there than just humans and also meets the MMC Winston a 125 year old grumpy ghost. This is a great cozy paranormal romance to read this fall! I loved the instant attraction between the MCs and how they easily fit into each other’s lives. They help work through trauma together and have some beautiful heartbreaking conversations. If you are looking for an addictive sweet romance to read this spooky season you might want to check out Adored by the Grumpy Ghost!
Adored by the Grumpy Ghost is exactly what the title promises: ghost smut with a side of cozy chaos. If you go in expecting a deep, award-winning plot, you’ll be disappointed (and I don't mean that in a mean way at all 😂), but if you want a fast, quirky read about a stubborn Victorian ghost who can’t stand his new roommate (but also can’t resist her), you’ll have fun.
I loved that Natalie is a plus-size FMC in her 40s. That representation was refreshing. The grumpy/sunshine banter between her and Winston had me smiling, and the whole “ghost boyfriend” concept was surprisingly charming. There are even a few monster-related surprises along the way that keep things interesting.
It’s a fast, steamy paranormal romance with just the right touch of humor. Perfect if you’re looking for something fun and a little different.
Natalie is plus sized, in her 40s and her life is falling apart. She recently lost her mom to cancer and is being evicted because she fell behind on rent while being her mother's caretaker.
Then her friend offers Natalie a solution: house sit a recently inherited, and kinda creepy Victorian mansion until she can get back on her feet. But the house comes with an unexpected roommate: Winston, a grumpy, stubborn Victorian ghost, who hates Natalie's music taste and is appalled at her clumsiness and clutter.
As Natalie settles into her new digs and gets a new job, she discovers that Winston isn't the only thing that goes bump in the night that lives in the vicinity. The whole, picturesque town is full of monsters that are more accepting of Natalie than most humans have been.
Winston and Natalie slowly fall for each other, but their romance isn't without bumps. Both of them have traumas in their pasts that they have to work through.
I hope the author writes more stories set in the hidden monster town, because there are so many delightful side characters that I want to learn more about, like Natalie's hot zombie boss and the orc and dragon shifter bartenders.
What a perfect Spooky/Halloween romance! I thought this was the perfect blend of emotional moments and funny moments and of course spooky (but also not really spooky?) monsters. I absolutely adored our main characters, and all the side characters. This had the perfect small town vibes that I just eat up during the colder seasons. I also really liked the way this book explored Natalie's grief and it felt so real and I felt that it was really impactful. Natalie's journey of loving her body was also really impactful for me because its something that so many people go through (including myself) and there is just not enough literature out there that says "it is okay and normal". Anyways, I really loved this book and I flew through it, 5 stars!

4.5/5 ⭐️s 🌶️🌶️ - medium spice, multiple explicit scenes
LOVES: - Her financial situation just about gave me hives. What a terribly tough spot to be in 😟 all of the money issues were dealt with in a creative way - The whole jealous ghost scene was so great, 😂especially because she was settling for way less than less 🫢 - I really enjoyed learning about this unusual town and the creatures who live there! Looking forward to more books in this setting - I might say the third act break up was a little predictable, but overall, this book felt fresh and fun to read - The bonus content was interesting! I was wondering how things could look in the future and I appreciated that it was an optional ending the author warned about.
Thanks to the author for the advance copy 💝 Releases September 24th!
I really loved this story. It was sweet, it was romantic, it was spicy, and it just gave you all the feels.
The relationship between Natalie and Winston is so wholesome. I loved it so much! They are just two souls that belong together. They both have gone through heartache and pain but have both started to heal.
And while this story was super sweet, man oh man, the spice was absolutely delicious. The things that Winston does??!! Just wow. AND he's a consent king? Just perfection.
I definitely loved this story and it just makes you believe in true love and happily ever afters all over again.
This was a cozy monster read with plenty of spice, but it was still balanced with some fantastic elements of depth. Both Natalie and Winston have such heart wrenching stories and I loved seeing their relationship and love for each other grow.
I read this one rather quickly - the pacing was solid and overall the cadence lent itself to a nice, easy read perfect for the spooky season.
There were a few aspects of this book that weren't my favorite, but it was all personal preference for tropes rather than any issue with the book itself. It was generally well-written and delivered on the monster romance fall vibes for sure.
I am so thankful to receive an advance copy of this book and it was my first paranormal romance. I enjoyed this world of ghosts and monsters. Her pain from her loss and watching her grow emotionally and find joy, love, and friends. A grumpy ghosts that learns to love and be treated like he is supposed to be treated. His past was gut wrenching to hear, but made him who he is. The town and towns people were such a great additive to the story. Their personalities were funny. Maybe we will get some more stories from the town?
I absolutely loved this book! Ivy Knox had me feeling all the feels y'all and I adored every second of it. Natalie was such a kind, loving, empathetic character and I really enjoyed her as a whole. She is just totally someone I could see myself being friends with. And Winston...that grumpy, stubborn, adorable ghost. I loved seeing his progression from when he first meant Natalie to when they really got to know one another, seeing his walls come down. Also, this town is so cute and I hope we get more about the monsters we've met. This was such a fun story and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was a wonderful series opener and a really entertaining, spooky and cozy reading ride. Natalie and Winston did not start off on the best foot but they sure do manage to find their way together. I loved the community this story is set in, with monsters and ghosts, the heartwarming plot, and the very hot spice ;P This really was an emotional read that had me teary or giggling away ;) I also loved the epilogue. This is a well written and engaging romance and I can't wait for the next book :D
This was such a fun book! It's a quick, very cozy, low-stakes, sweet, love story that would be a perfect October read for Halloween! I really liked both Winston and Natalie's characters! There were also so many side characters that I loved, and so many different types of "monsters" and paranormal creatures within the side characters, which I thought was really fun! Overall, I just had a really good time reading this ❤️
Ivy's books always feel like watching your favorite sitcom. You smile, laugh, and sometimes get a little sad. This story was no exception.
Natalie's life has not gone down any path she planned. She's now living in a house with an unexpectedly hot ghost in a town full of monsters. She is learning to navigate grief and a world she didn't realize existed.
This was a perfect book to start the spooky season! The vibes of this book was giving cozy Halloween Town! I could just picture myself walking through the cute little town with fall colors! Natalie and Winston were such fun characters to follow, their story was so cute! I loved their chemistry and quirkiness!
This is such a cute, cosy, monster romance that is perfect for autumn. This is such an easy but great read that was a much needed pallet cleanser. Can’t wait to see where the series goes from here.
This was such a beautiful, passionate, heartwarming read. Bringing together some amazing people. The story line is emotional but also brings a breath of fresh air. Two people brought together in the most extreme of circumstance.
Natalie and Winston are absolutely adorable. Both suffering losses that ultimately bring them together. The town and the mystery that surrounds it create a safe haven for those that belong.
I certainly hope we see more like this Ivy, it was an amazing love story 💜💜🔥
This book was soooooo cute and felt like the perfect fall read . It was such a cute book but with relatable and important themes . I love that our FMC is older (41 years) who still doesn’t have life figured out and it’s ok . This book was so cozy and just a top tier fall read .
I just got so many good feels from this book . I even almost cried at one point and that’s a fear for me ( it takes a lot to make me cry ).
I love both Winston and Natalie so much . Even the side characters in Mapletown are top tier! I literally no complaints or critiques I just enjoyed this book so much
I really hope this becomes a serious of interconnected standalones I need more of Mapletown .
I love small town love set in the fall time weather. Me as a plus size woman enjoyed reading about another plus size lady finding love. So many characters that you can see living in your hometown. This was a super sweet read and I am glad there will be more. I received an advance review copy at no cost and am leaving this review voluntarily.
