But what’s he going to do—leave her adrift at sea?

More…now that she’s discovered who he is, can Austen fall for a guy whose life means danger?

I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.

I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.

Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.

Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.

Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.

Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.

I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. And, if you're interested, sign up for my newsletter, a quarterly sneak peek into upcoming releases and projects. Thank you for your interest and support.

God Bless and Happy Reading!

In His Grip,
Susan May Warren

I really loved all the Scripture in this one and how Austen has hid so much of it in her heart and God brings it to mind when she needs it!

This was a great installment in this Christian romantic suspense series. I cannot wait for the finale! Things really heat up in this book as we are trying to discern if people are criminals or not. Declan is a billionaire that we’ve met before and he seems to be in cahoots with the Russian Bratva. Austen is the twin to his former bodyguard and she is a shark expert! Get ready for some harrowing underwater scenes in this read. I loved them!! With danger and romance, faith and water, this read takes us around the Caribbean and has a lot of high stakes and fast paced action. I really wish I could dive right into the last book right now! This is a just kisses romance.

I received an eARC of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

“That’s the hardest part, right? Letting go of the things you can’t control to find peace in the outcome.”

Austen and Declan’s adventure was pure adrenaline, high stakes rollercoaster ride spanning several countries. Susan May Warren is the queen of romantic suspense and she will have you biting your nails and holding on to the edge of your seat for the entire book.

Austen, Steinbeck’s twin, was a brave, compassionate, and spirited soul whose faith grounded her, Declan and Stein. They were tossed about the ocean, kidnapped, gunned down, betrayed many times over yet Austen clung to hope and her spiritual growth was astounding. Declan, a self-made billionaire with charm, purpose, strength, and compassion, was a brilliant hero and his moment of complete life surrender was a highlight of the story. Their romance was not hot and blinding and fast but steady and rooted in unshakable trust in each other even when naysayers tried to pull them apart. Now Steinbeck and Emberly, on the other hand, were blinding and fast in their emotions though the cards were stacked against them. I enjoyed the cameo appearances by an Alaskan Kingston cousin as well as some of the other memorable characters from the author’s previous series. Now the race is on to get one step ahead of the Petrov Bratva in the next book featuring Steinbeck!

I received a complimentary copy courtesy of SDG Publishing and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

Austen was a fast-paced, action-packed read with lots of explosions and harrowing scenes set out in the sea. Austen, a shark whisperer and diving expert, must determine Declan, a billionaire, is who he says he is or if he is a criminal. Of course, there is tension between Steinbeck and Phoenix, and I cannot wait for their story. Awesome read.

Every Susan May Warren book is exceptional and every Minnesota Kingston book is explosive and action-packed as the next. AUSTEN is beyond my expectations though! I think Susan outdid herself on this one. There was danger, literal explosions on boats and lots of lost out to sea moments. Run- ins with the Russian mob.

I’ve liked every book so far in this series, and Austen is no exception. She’s smart, resourceful, and wounded. Her love interest, Declan Stone, is a bit of a mystery. Is he a terrorist, philanthropist, or both? You’ll find out when you read this novel. This adventure is a high-seas, high-stake story. When a shell-game goes south, Declan and Austen are swept up in an adventure that spans multiple islands. Stone is a man with a past and part of the fun of this book is seeing his story unravel. The romance is well done—a few kisses and nothing more. You don’t have to worry if you’re not into steamy scenes, even clean ones. The faith message is really nice. I think more subtle than other SMW books, but a truth many of us may need to be reminded about God’s love for us. It’s a top-notch novel that will entertain you. You’ll find humor, romance, and action all rolled into a super story.

When I started reading this book, I knew it would have lots of diving and life-threatening water drama, because after all, this is a Susan May Warren book!
Austen is a diving expert and has swum with sharks before, so when she got into deep waters with lots of non-stop action, drama, and running-for-your-life moments, she didn’t give up. She was also trying to understand her connection with Declan Stone and whether he was who he claimed to be. Or could he be someone else?
With EVERY book written by Susan May Warren, I was thrown into a tail-spin of action, drama, and suspense. Often, I’m not sure I would want to be one of the characters in her books. Well, I know for sure that I would definitely NOT want to be one in this book. Mainly because I have a fear of swimming and deep waters. Sure, all the images of the beautiful coral ocean life, the dream of living on a yacht, great cuisine, and anything I’d want at my fingertips would be fun, but not if I had to go through all that these characters did. The action will leave you feeling like you’re right there with each step.
Susan May Warren is one of those authors that when I hear she has a new book out, I will climb the highest mountain and forge the deepest valley (Uuuummm, not swim the deepest waters) to get it. Every book I've read by her has filled me with numerous thoughts and personal lessons. They are not just words; they are profound, touching, and relatable examples of what God can do in our lives! They flow with wonderful images so vivid that it’s easy to get swept away and believe it’s real.
I'm at a loss for words eloquent enough to convey the depth of emotions and feelings I get each time I pick up one of Susan May Warren's books. In each of her books, I find wonderful life lessons about the love of God, woven in such a way that they are real and not fake or forced.
Whatever Ms. Warren writes, I'll read because I know I'll be captivated and blessed in a way that is life-changing.
I received this book from the publisher, which did not influence my review in any way; all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

This novel was incredible. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire length of it! And at the same time...I didn't want it to end!

I have been going back and forth throughout this whole series trying to remember if we had met Declan Stone before this series. And seeing him in these books...I've gone back and forth, trying to decide if he is a good guy...or a bad guy. And, I have to admit...I was still wondering that through most of this novel. And I...still have questions, LOTS of questions.

Pretty typical of a Susan May Warren novel, right?!

Despite my questions, I loved this book. The non-stop action, Austen and Declan's romance, the push and pull, will they won't they of Steinbeck and Emerbly. Every. Single. Word. Was. Perfect! And, as always, she managed to delicately weave a story of faith and hope in there too as both Declan and Austen rediscovered their faith and placed their future in God's hands.

I have dedicated a LOT of reading hours to Susan's novels for the past few years. And her ability to weave this incredibly complicated storyline with the Russian mob has been the most intricate mystery I have ever read. I have loved every, single, solitary second of it and part of me is so sad that we are drawing to its conclusion. At the same time? I cannot wait to see how it all ends!

My hats off to you, Susan! You are truly the master of mystery!

The Minnesota Kingstons remind me a lot of the Minnesota Marshalls; trouble is always brewing!
I really enjoy how Susan May Warren conquers sibling groups and interweaves their stories, even when life takes the siblings on very different adventures.
There are some authors, when you read so much of what they've published, you come to expect what's going to happen next. I have not found this to be the case with Warren. Instead I have learned to expect the unexpected in relation to her story lines. The other thing I have learned to expect and appreciate is how she takes readers across faith growth terrain. Her characters are always navigating something that challenges and hopefully grows their faith. I almost always come across some nugget of truth that challenges my thinking and encourages me in my faith journey. The same was true with Austen. The faith nuggets embedded in this tale shined a light on things in my own life and gave me a bit of a nudge on how to view some things.
I am so thankful for authors who write for more than the sake of writing. Ones who help people see more of what God might doing in the lives of His people.
Thank you to the publisher and author for the opportunity to spend time in this series. All opinions are my own.

Susan May Warren knocks it out of the park again with Austen—a fast-paced, heart-pounding romantic suspense that had me guessing until the very end. From shark dives to deadly conspiracies, this story packs a punch and never lets up.

Austen Kingston is fiercely independent and not the least bit impressed by billionaire Declan Stone, no matter how charming or generous he seems. But when a dive goes dangerously wrong and Declan ends up rescuing her—again—sparks fly in more ways than one. What follows is a wild adventure full of danger, secrets, and unexpected vulnerability as the two are forced to rely on each other while lost at sea and dodging international enemies.

I loved watching Austen and Declan learn to trust—not only in each other but in themselves. Their chemistry is undeniable, but it’s their emotional growth that really shines. Warren weaves in just the right mix of action, romance, and personal stakes to keep the tension high and the pages turning.

Longtime fans will appreciate the cameos from earlier books, and new readers will still find plenty to enjoy in this standalone installment. If you love survival stories, forced proximity, and clean-but-compelling romance with a heavy dose of suspense, this one is for you.

Austen Kingston last saw billionaire Declan Stone two months ago on the island of Mariposa after he hired her to lead a dive expedition. They shared one magical dance, but because Austen was his employee, Declan did not pursue the attraction at the time.

Austen returned home to Key West and is now taking a vacation, doing some diving in the Dominican Republic. But when her boat disappears, Austen finds herself in the middle of the ocean in need of rescue. Declan has arrived in Key West to ask Austen on a date but instead learns she is missing. Declan sets out to locate her, but trouble is following him.

Austen is the fourth book in Susan May Warren's The Minnesota Kingstons series. Adventure and mystery began on page one of this contemporary romance and continued throughout. It was great seeing some of Logan's team show up and discover another member of this group. I can't wait for Steinbeck's story.

I received a free Kindle copy of this book. I volunteered to read it and write a review.

I've been excited to read Austen's story and was not disappointed. This series just keeps getting better and better. Austen swims with sharks. That fact right there should have clued me in that she is one tough girl. But even tough girls need can get caught up in things that are too much for them. And when will she learn to trust her twin? And Declan? Well, let's just say he has his work cut out for him, and I don't just mean with Austen. Keeping everything in his double life in order is getting harder and harder.
The secrets that must be kept to keep them alive are ones that I simply had to figure out and kept me reading. One aspect I really enjoyed was the relatable struggles the characters went through. And yet they both, in their own way, turned to God. This is one of the reasons I always enjoy a Susan May Warren book.
I received a Kindle copy of this book from the publisher with the understanding I would write an honest review. The thoughts in this review are all mine and 100% honest.

He drew me out of many waters …
Wow!
This STORY!!!♥️♥️♥️
Pirates, sharks, secrets, adventure, pain, sorrow, romance, betrayal, joy, forgiveness, mafia, reunion, healing and passion filled kisses… this story has it all!
I actually struggle to write reviews because I never want to accidentally have a spoiler in the review and then cause the story to be less for someone else… but Susan May Warren did it again! Another 5+ star book that you can’t put down! My eyes burned, yet I kept reading! Just one more page! Just one more chapter!
Psalm 18 is one of my favorite Psalms and its wrapped beautifully throughout Austen and Declan’s story♥️
Everyone loves a fabulous romance/ adventure story but when the very fibers of the story are woven with truth it makes it something that lingers in your soul and draws you closer to the Creator of all life’s stories! Thanks again Susie May for using your gifts to glorify Him!!

Be ready to be kidnapped and set into some mindblown action-adventure movie!
Susan May Warren is extremely gifted! She draws you into her story, and you won't be able to escape before the end!
Declan and Austen think they have their plans and future all planned out. But  . . . But . . . They are in for the surprise of their lives! Exotic locations, undeniable attraction, intrigue, death-and-life situations and bad guys everywhere!
Thankfully, the story is stacked with heroes ready to save the day. Will Declan be able to untangle this web of intrigue surrounding him? Will he be able to let go and let God? Can Austen trust him? Can she stay alive long enough to overcome her pain about the past?
This is an excellent story that will keep you spellbound long after you finish reading.

3.5 ⭐️ This book follows Austen, the only sister in the series. She is a marine biologist and swims with the sharks, as well as dives for treasure & for pleasure/a side gig. Of course, the villain up into this point, Declan, is who she is interested in… But is he a bad guy? To be determined amid everyday, common events like Russian mafia pirates, being alone & lost at sea, & ending up on communist territory. (I’ll tell ya one thing—he’s RICH, that’s for certain. Like hello, do you have a brother? HA jkjk. I know he’s fictional.) I liked this fast pace story, but I would definitely say it’s one of my least favorites of the series… But I still finished it within 24 hours, so take that into consideration.

Sharks, pirates, boat escapes, sunken treasure... Austen has it all, for the perfect beach suspense read! Unless, of course, you don't want to think about sharks while you're at the beach. I always enjoy cameos from some of our previous favorite characters, and several pop up in this story, too. I loved the fun summer vibe of the Caribbean—great for gearing up for a beach trip! Austen and Declan's love story is fraught with danger and intrigue, as well as an intense struggle to trust. As it turns out, both have to learn to trust God first, and then maybe they can trust each other. If they both survive.

Absolutely wonderful!

Austin and Declan have the most wonderful faith based second chance romance with a lot of suspenseful and dangerous action. Austen Kingston swims with the sharks and is content with her life as a treasure hunter. She has no interest in Declan Stone the billionaire. Declan has not been able to forget about Austen since he had hired her to lead an underwater expedition. When he discovers Austen has not returned from a solo dive, he sets out to help locate her. He never could have imagined the danger he would be exposing her to when she is rescued. I highly recommend this book!

Talk about fast moving! This book has one action event after another and you aren't sure who are the bad guys and who are the good guys! Austen is a marine biologist who is a shark expert! Even Austen's twin brother, Steinbeck, doesn't seem to know if billionaire Declan is a good guy or working with the Russian Bratva. The attraction is there between Austen and Declan but can they trust each other? They are too busy running for their lives to find out If you like action, you don't want to miss Austen! I received a complimentary e-book from the author and Sunrise Publishing. This is my honest opinion.

Grew on me

I nearly gave up on this as I was getting so frustrated by the plethora of acronyms being used without being defined. Maybe these were all familiar to an American audience, though I have my doubts. Please use footnotes or x-ray to clue readers in, rather than leaving them to take the extra steps of an internet search where the answer is not more readily available.

That aside, the characters were engaging, there were plenty of surprises long the way, and there was a satisfying conclusion. It was worth persevering, and it would have been a five-star read if not for the excess of acronyms.

Danger, adventure, suspense, faith, romance, sibling rivalry, everything you could want in a romantic suspense novel. Austen is a diving and shark expert, the water scenes were a bit harrowing for me but were very descriptive. Austen needs to make her own decisions where Declan Stone is concerned and not let her twin, Steinbeck, blind her to the truth. The friendship and romance with Austen and Declan is slow but enjoyable to watch take place. There is plenty of action in this book and I can't wait to read Steinbeck's story.

So so good! Another great addition to the Minnesota Kingstons. If life hadn’t gotten in the way I could’ve read this in 24 hrs. Ha! But seriously though, Susie May delivered yet another page-turner. And of course in the midst of the chaos of being hijacked by Russians and naturally falling in love without trying, Austen and Declan also run into familiar faces along the way. Trust me, this was another fabulous book that won’t let you put it down.

Austen is an amazingly brave character. Treasure hunter, shark expert, diving adventurer… the list goes on. And we get to see what in the world Declan is really into (besides Austen.) While danger lurks around every corner Austen’s faith shines bright. And we get the ongoing drama of Stein and Phoenix! This series just gets better and better and I can’t wait for the final installment.

“Everyone thinks that God won’t give us more than we can handle. But that’s not true. In fact, that thought is absolutely contrary to the nature of God. He puts us in situations that are over our heads because He wants us to need Him.”

Austen, being the only sister among a group of strong hero-hearted brothers, learned to be strong, independent and standing up for what she wants.

Declan was a misunderstood hero. I really felt for him in his quest for Justice while others labeled him as a triathlete.

I enjoyed the chemistry between Austen and Declan, and the dangerous situations they had to escape, needing to trust each other while Austen struggled to know is Declan is worth trusting.

The author really threw the characters through challenge after challenge. Just when I think they deserve a break, the next moment they are again thrown overboard into the deep end.

Stein’s story is one I have been wanting to read since the start of this series!

Another exciting read in The Minnesota Kingstons series. Warren is a gifted writer. Her descriptions are clear and detailed enough to pull me into the setting without overwhelming me. Her characters are well developed with the reader rooting for sister Austen, the shark whisperer, and her questionable love interest, Declan Stone. As always, there is a lot of suspense. Great pacing, great action, and sweet, clean romance. A fun read.

So much excitement!

This series gets more exciting with every volume. Or maybe I'm getting more excited to finally get to the rest of Steinbeck and Phoenix's story.

Austen's story is no small feat though. How many times does a girl have to be adrift in the sea? This is a heartstopping oceanic adventure. I loved Austen's character development and the relationships in this story.

Austen's story and Steinbeck her twin's story is still to come.
Austen and Steinbeck out in the ocean with drama, adventures, bad company. Phoenix and Declan also in the mix. Romance. Older characters Colt and Tate involved.
God the rescuer. All alone. Time spent with your maker. Remembering and wonder what God has install.

Brilliant!

So much happened in this story. There was lots of suspense, action and danger. Even though Declan didn’t have a strong faith and Austen did, they were both challenged and grew in their faith. Familiar characters were everywhere, the tension never let up, and the scene was set for Steinbeck’s story. Very enjoyable!

Captivating

What an incredible work of Christian fiction. This is a terrific series of love, danger and adventure rolled into an unforgettable series.
If you're looking for a Christian thriller look no further than this series starting with the first book.
The last in the series comes out in October and I've already pre-ordered it.
Happy reading.

Loved Austen's story! Most of Susan May Warren's characters are so much braver than I - I can't imagine being in any of their predicaments and Austen and Declan's are no different. Action-packed, nail-biting adventure, high stakes and lots of water - oh so much water. And sharks! Great read, great characters, swoony romance. Just love it!

If you’re into trouble at every turn, then this book is for you. I found myself wanting things to calm down a little bit before the next disaster. Just when you think Austen and Declan might get a chance to get to know each other a little better boom here comes trouble.
