Callie Dawson had her future all mapped out...until her long-term boyfriend dumped her and left her with an eviction notice instead of a shiny engagement ring. Now she’s back in her sleepy hometown, single, jaded, and absolutely done with love.
But when her cousin, whose photography business is barely clinging to life, begs Callie to help with a romantic “blind date” photoshoot, Callie can’t say no. Even if it’s weird. And cringe. And definitely a bad idea. Bracing for an afternoon of awkward small talk and forced smiles, Callie anticipates the worst. Then he walks in—the grumpy, yet ridiculously hot, local mechanic with a knack for flipping vintage RVs—and Callie’s carefully fortified walls start to crumble.
Jensen Shepherd isn’t looking for a relationship. He wears his painful past around like armor and only agrees to do the photoshoot as a favor to a friend. But being around Callie starts to stir something in his long-shattered heart. Something he’s not sure he’s ready to feel.
And the photos from their shoot? Yeah, they go viral.
Suddenly, everyone’s talking about the “perfect” couple. As their social media fame skyrockets, so does the chemistry crackling between them. But Jensen believes he’s too broken to ever heal and Callie is convinced love is just another pretty lie.
Just when their feelings reach a breaking point, a devastating tragedy strikes, forcing them to confront the painful truths of their pasts and the undeniable connection between them.

I absolutely *loved* Kimberly Chance's Never Til Now! Five stars read, all the way!! This was my first Kimberly Chance book, but it definitely won't be the last. This story of one of those Blind Photo Shoots, is so much fun. It gave a glimpse behind what those photo shoots are/could be like for the participants. I have adored those photo shoot pix since the first ones I saw. Every set of pix of Blind Photo Shoot couples makes me adore them even more.
Callie was strong, but vulnerable, which I completely appreciated. She had some healing of her heart to do. She was not afraid of hard work, and being open to possibilities with Jensen. Jensen was much more vulnerable than I expected he would be. He had suffered some heart breaking losses and was afraid to open himself up to love again. Callie got under his skin, though, and he decided to go for it. It was so fun watching them grow together as their relationship deepened. When tragedy struck, they pulled together and made a perfect little life together.
Give this book a try. I guarantee you will fall for Callie, Jensen, and how they came to be a couple.
I admit, I mostly read mystery books, but once in a while, I like a cozy read. I am VERY picky with romance as sometimes the characters don't feel as developed and their chemistry forced.
But when I tell you this book gripped me from page 1--oh my goodness! I quickly fell in love with Callie, Jensen, and Dayton Springs, and of course, Peaches! This is the ultimate cozy romance and simmering burn, without feeling slow.
I also REALLY appreciated the handling of very real topics (such as death, divorce, infertility, and anxiety) without feeling too heavy. I have highlighted a ton of quotes in my book to return back to as I found I related to so many moments in this story.
Finally, any book that moves me to tears is an automatic 5 stars for me. The climax and ending got me GOOD! That's all I'm going to say!
I highly recommend this book to any lovers of romance, but honestly to any readers in general wanting a cozy read! It's that good!
Thank you to BookFunnel for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVE stranger photoshoot reels so much! When I came across this book and noticed that was in this book, it was an instant read. I even moved it up on my ever growing TBR. You get to experience the stranger photoshoot (which is written perfectly might I add) AND you get to see what happens after. With that being said I thought the book was entirely too long. Callie and Jensen drove me crazy for most of the book. I felt so much chemistry between them during the photoshoot but after that it just wasn’t working for me. Jensen is very closed off and I thought Callie could do better. I understand why he is the way he is but he still annoyed me. I loved Peaches and Ms. Dorthy so much. The 3⭐️ is for them and the photoshoot and that’s about it. I love text messages in books but the way the formatting is it made it very difficult to read what’s being said. Towards the end of the book something happens and it had me holding my breath. Let’s just say California weather doesn’t do that to me 🤣 I’m a little bummed I didn’t love the book as much as I was hoping I would. It definitely had entertaining moments and sweet moments so I say give it a read!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wauw wauw wauw ! This book is different in a good way! It’s something I never have read before but it had everything I wanted! The photoshoots in here are amazing and the way Kimberly describes them make them come to life! You really can imagine the setting
It’s a closed door romance so there are no spicy bed scenes and this book didn’t need them. This was perfect! The chemistry between our main characters is amazing and there back stories hurt !
But I think a lot of people will recognise themself in some way in them. I had that too the “am I good enough?” or “I am not good enough” feeling. After that said chapter 25 & 26 has a special place in my heart and it made me cry ! Just the feeling those chapters gave me !
What the book told me is that everybody has their emotional scars but you kind try to find them or embrace them and take them with you but not let them in the way. And it feels so real some of the feelings came so close to me .
Just the feeling of someone understanding what you are going through and just accepts it! It is such an important thing in life!
This book is very good written and I really going to recommend to read it’s funny, lovely and it makes you cry (at least it did with me) and you feel for the characters.
So for short: read this book!! I absolutely loved it! It touched me right in the heart it broke it and healed it back up. The way they love each other is amazing and everyone has a history that hurt them but if you find the right person you can be healed. Having scars is okay as long as they don’t hurt anymore.
And then came the last 20% I was not prepared for it. It was heavy a wild ride but so good.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars for me! Maybe I can say it’s my all time favorite! But I can decide that in a couple of days because right now I am going to stare at the walls for a couple of hours thinking about this amazing book!
And to end al this grab some tissues and an apple pie 🥧 you need it!
This was a 4.5 stars read for me! I was hooked after the first photo shoot and never looked back. The connection between Callie and Jensen is swoon worthy! This book contains: *grumpy/sunshine *broken past *heartbreak *loss/grief *tragedies *healing *forgiveness and *Love ALL wrapped into one wonderful romance novel. This book will leave you all in your feels. I cannot recommend it enough! Thank you, Kimberly Chance, for giving me the opportunity to read and ARC of your book! I will be recommending it to everyone!
I knew I was in trouble when the first chapter made me snort-laugh and side-eye my own emotional baggage. But by the time I got to the porch scene in the rain? I was toast. Utterly wrecked and in love with two fictional people who honestly just broke me apart and stitched me back together.
Let’s talk about Callie Dawson. She’s back in her hometown after being dumped, and emotionally run over. She's not here for love, she's here for survival and maybe a little soul-searching. What she doesn't expect? A blind date photoshoot (yes, you read that right—how’s that for rom-com gold) that throws her directly into the path of Jensen Shepherd: a grumpy, emotionally walled-off mechanic who’s way too hot to be that emotionally unavailable.
Their chemistry is instant, but what caught me off guard wasn’t just the banter (which is perfection) or the off-the-charts sexual tension (more on that in a sec)—it was the vulnerability. Jensen and Callie don’t just flirt, they bleed on the page. And when I say the sexual tension had me sweating like I was sitting in a sauna in July? I mean that in the most complimentary, deeply unhinged way. The waterfall scene alone should come with a warning label and a cold drink.
But this story is more than just heat and tension. It’s about grief and healing, about learning to stop letting your past define your future. Jensen’s trauma—especially the layers tied to his military past and previous relationship—felt deeply real and raw. And Callie’s heartbreak, her jaded view of love, her fierce protectiveness over her cousin Mabel… all of it wrapped me up in the kind of emotional cocoon that hurts so good.
Speaking of Mabel—can we please talk about cousin love?! That bond was a highlight for me. So real, so supportive, and honestly, such a breath of fresh air in a genre that sometimes sidelines friendships. Their relationship grounded the story and added so much heart.
Favorite quote? Easy: “Don’t let what’s been dragging you down keep you there.” That one hit me right in the chest.
As a beta reader, I felt honored to watch this story unfold early, but even now with the final version in my hands, I’m still not over it. I laughed, I cried (a lot), and I clung to every emotionally charged twist that brought Callie and Jensen together.
This isn’t just a romance—it’s a journey of two broken souls figuring out how to trust themselves and each other again.
Devastating. Beautiful. Honest. I saw it—felt the heartbreak, the hope, the mess of it all—and it’s going to live in my head rent-free forever. I will never get over it.
Kimberly Chance wrote the kind of love story that unravels you slowly and then dares you to believe in second chances.
If you're a fan of small-town settings, grumpy/sunshine dynamics, emotional angst, and tension that will curl your toes, but keep the door closed on the page; Never Til Now needs to be at the top of your TBR.
Thanks to the author for an advanced reader copy to review.
✨ Small Town Romance ✨ Meet Cute: Stranger Photography Session ✨ Close Proximity: Landlord/Neighbor ✨ Blue Collar MMC ✨ Military Veteran MMC ✨ Male Infertility Rep ✨ Closed Door Romance
I was instantly hooked when I saw this had a meet cute with one of those stranger photography sessions and it was hottt! Callie Dawson moves back to her small town in Alabama after her boyfriend of six years dumps her and evicts her all in the same day. She temporarily moves in with her cousin, Mabel, an aspiring photographer. At Mabel's pleas, Callie agrees to do a stranger photography session to help build Mabel's portfolio. What she didn't expect was to have amazing chemistry with her session partner, Jensen Shepherd, and for the photos to go viral. Callie wants to get to know Jensen more but Jensen is still haunted by his past and afraid to get close to anyone again. When Callie becomes his new tenant, it gets harder and harder for him to stay away.
I flew through this book! Kimberly completely transported me into the small town of Dayton Springs, Alabama and into the lives of Callie and Jensen! The photography session had me kicking my feet the entire time and I was salivating for all of the subsequent interactions with Callie and Jensen! Jensen has demons and ghosts he's still battling due to his best friend's death and the actions of his ex-wife, and doesn't believe he is worthy of love or anything good. Callie tries to break through those barriers to show he is worthy of having love. This story is emotional, angsty, and raw, with just the right amount of swoon!
There is also just the bestest girl ever - Peaches, Jensen's deaf pup, who stole the show for me. I just wanted to love on her.
I struggled a bit with how to rate this book. Parts of it I’d give a 3 stars and parts of it were easily 5 stars, so I went in the middle! :)
The plot of this book was so cute! Jensen & Callie are basically put up for a Blind Date photoshoot by their best friends, and it’s instant chemistry and connection for them both. The connection is visible to everyone….and all but themselves are rooting for them to become a couple. They try to be friends, and they fight it for a while due to their past relationships…but ultimately, love wins out.
What I struggled with in this book was some of the repetitiveness, as well as certain phrases that were way overused. Then, the back-and-forth emotions Jensen went through, and put Callie through. …I get that it was true to Jensen’s character and the internal struggle he was dealing with; but at the same time, he would flip-flop like a light switch which gave me whiplash as the reader.
I LOVED his pet name for Callie, btw… I often get cringey with pet names but his was perfectly used!
I also loved the end of the book. The last several chapters and epilogue were where a lot of my Five ⭐️ feelings emerged. The tragedy that strikes their town was heartbreaking but well-written, the emotions were there, and I truly felt it. Then, the recovery from that, and time lapse towards the future afterwards was SO well-paced. I ADORED the ending. …It was perfect!!!
Ultimately, I would recommend this book. It was a sweet, quick read. And I overall really enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this one! Would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys slow-burn romance in a vivid, small-town setting. Kimberly Chance has a real talent for creating compelling characters and atmospheric detail; I felt right at home in Dayton Springs.
The dual-perspective was done really well; both characters felt distinct, emotionally-grounded, and fully fleshed out. The pacing was natural and felt just right, and Callie and Jensen's relationship grew in a way that felt truly earned; you'll want to root for them from the very beginning! I also really liked how Jensen's internal conflict was explored. It makes the ending hit even harder.
The side characters (Mabel, Sutton, and even Ethan) are compelling too. They help the leads process their emotions about each other, but I would have liked to see more of their lives and personalities outside of the lens of the main romance. There are details about their backstories and lives, but it's mostly told rather than shown, so I found myself wanting to experience more of those moments directly. I think that would have made the book even more fleshed-out for me, but it's still really good.
I'll definitely be reading more from Kim! Thank you for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.
Both Calli and Jensen have real trauma from their past that they bear in different ways, they're both imperfect people but when they meet at a "stranger photoshoot" they both feel an instant chemistry.
There were plenty of light hearted, charming moments! We have a continuous call back to Calli giving up on love and owning a bunch of cats, which I found hilarious and appreciated each time. We have sweet familial and platonic relationships with Calli and her cousin, and Jensen with his best-friends. I love reading bro-romances and I found this one endearing! And of course you have to love Peaches!
But it also deals with some heavier topics in a real way. It's there, it can be overwhelming, but you go on the best you can each day, and as you do, you learn to live with the hand you've been dealt.
This is a fade-to-black, closed door romance. The kisses are swoony and intense, but nothing goes beyond the first steps of intimacy.
The way Chance wrote instantly transported me from the western states to a small town in Alabama with her prose and sweet southern sayings!
Sweet Magnolia, this book was a fun read and I'm looking forward to more books in the series and more from Kim Chance.
I absolutely love when books use real life trends as the plot. The stranger session photoshoots have been gaining more and more popularity lately and I always think they’re so sweet. It’s fascinating to see the chemistry of 2 random people thrown together by chance. If you like to watch those on TikTok or Instagram then you’ll love this book!!
Our MMC is a tortured soul who thinks he doesn’t deserve happiness and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Our FMC is mending a broken heart and comes back home to lick her wounds. Match made in heaven right?? Callie’s cousin is an aspiring photographer and throws these 2 together hoping they stick and boy, do the sparks FLY!!
This is an amazing story about overcoming insecurities and hoping someone will jump with you. The author did an amazing job of representing the realities of grief and healing for both of our characters. The emotions were articulated so beautifully that you can feel the brutality of what Jensen has endured. Even though none of it was his fault, you can understand his logic and it’s heartbreaking. This is closed door spice but you can still feel the overpowering love between these two. Also, the teasers of book 2 have me so so excited for Mabel and Sully’s story!
Thank you to Kimberly Chance for allowing us to be ARC readers for this book!!
This book does deal with grief and other hard topics, so please check the warnings before reading! The author does a great job at handling these topics. You get to watch two broke people find themselves back to love.
The blind photoshoot was such a fun and unique start to the book! Those videos are always so cute to watch online. We loved the instant chemistry between the two and the ability of the characters to work together and help out the people in their life. The concept was written so well! The tension and chemistry between the couple could be felt through the pages. This book was closed door, but the intimate scenes and kisses we did get were pretty heated. The book felt a little long and there was a lull in the middle of the book. We felt the chemistry was there between the characters, but the back and forth of allowing themselves to be together and then deciding on just friends was a little disappointing. With that being said, we can understand the hesitation from them both. The author did such a good job writing about their grief and heartbreak.

Ok, I Loved This Book. It is not like the usual RomCom, lovers novel. The two main characters meet in a non-traditional but very current way and as soon as they meet, you can sense the connection between them. It is an automatic, I am rooting for these two to get it together as soon as possible. Both Callie and Jensen have things that hold them back from falling in love - but the book is incredibly honest and raw. As I read, I was not only about hoping these two fall in love, I was also cheering for each one separately as they figure out everything else going on in their lives as well. There was no beating around the bush, everything was laid Out and said - a part of the story I really appreciated. The side characters really contributed to the story as well. I want more Mabel and Sutton! Both played pivotal roles in the story, brought some humor to everything that was going on and really added to the hometown, true feel good sense that the book gives you. I am already ready for the next Dayton Springs book!
Be still my heart. How this small-town, slow burn, low spice closed-door romance consumed me…starting with the trending blind-date photoshoot meet-cute all the way through to the happily ever after. Jensen, a blue collar mechanic and veteran, and Callie, returning to her hometown, both have jaded past love lives and are both going through all the things. When they meet…sparks. Instant sparks captured so beautifully in the prose and in the photographs. How they reached their happiness was full of resistance, insecurities, and storms (literally and figuratively) but, the true love they found and eventually captured provided the strength and shelter they needed. The main character arcs were phenomenal, Peaches the dog and the side characters were such a great addition to the storyline. The plot had my heart racing and the intimacy without the spice had my heart thumping. Two thumbs up (and more!) for this love after heartbreak romance. Thanks to the author for the eARC.
The cover of this book gives nothing away. The love story built up between the protagonists, Callie and Jensen, is beautifully told with longing glances, miscommunication, and a lot of growing as individuals and as a couple. I love the subtle vulnerability of Jensen and the quiet strength of Callie. I like the slower burn, that despite their first meeting, it doesn't jump to them finding happily ever after, but it's something that must be worked to achieve.
The storytelling here is top notch, with fully-fleshed out main characters and side characters, which is something Kimberly excels at writing. The world building is tangible, the characters and their inner and outer turmoil is relatable, and the love story is charming and beautiful.
Take the time out of your day to read this beautiful story from a truly talented writer.
I had the absolute privilege of reading this beautiful book early, and my friends, it is SO GOOD.
If you're looking for something a bit palette cleanserish, without lacking substance, this is the book for you. The banter is so good, the characters are so well-developed, and I was all too happy to sit back and go for the ride Chance was taking us on.
This book begins with the premise of a fake engagement photo shoot: two people, not at all in love (and, in fact, not even knowing each other at all), posing as if they're celebrating a pivotal moment in their lives. Except for Callie and Jensen, it kind of is?
Jensen is the perfect grumpy MMC that I devour, and Callie is the right blend of funny, genuine, and sunshine to light him up. It's just so good! I can't recommend this one enough. <3
I absolutely devoured this book in three hours and I NEED more.
Callie. First, can I punch her ex, what a turd?! Second, I ADOREEEE her relationship with her cousin! They were so so cute and it reminded me of me and my cousins. I loved watching her patience and understanding with Jensen, and Peaches 😉
Jensen. My HEART ❤️🩹 ugh he has so much weight on his heart. I LOVEEED the way he used breathing as a metaphor for how he feels with Callie. So 👏🏻 precious 👏🏻 AND THE CLIMAX?! No spoilers but HOLY COW I was swooning and stressed out it was fantastic.
This book is BEYOND bingeable. It has so many cute moments with the photoshoots, emotionally vulnerable moments, and heart melting chemistry!
She has amazing CW at the start of her book but here is a quick list! Minor spoilers 🫶🏼
⚠️ CW: grief, tornados, infertility, depression, on page panic attacks, is closed door but has heavily implied intimacy between an unmarried couple (ch 25) ⚠️
If Never til Now represents Kimberly Chance’s foray into romance, I’m way on board. I adored this book. Kim really knows how to make a romance come to life and dance on the page, and the cuteness factor is off the charts.
Kim has definitely found her groove with this book, from the snappy prose and dialogue to the two lead characters, who I fell for right away. The setup with the photo shoot is engaging and pulls you right into the story. I love the way Kim alters the POVs and takes us deep inside each character’s thoughts and feelings. Her writing style is immersive. I love the snark, too!
Kim really took chance to spread her wings with this romance, and we’re all better off for it. I can’t recommend this book enough. Five stars!
Sweet Magnolia, this was such a good book! From the very first page, I felt right at home in Dayton Springs. Callie and Jensen both carry emotional scars from their pasts, and watching them open up and begin to heal, together, was so moving. Their chemistry was undeniable and so cute . The kisses were swoony and intense. And while the spice stays closed door, the tension and connection was on point. Also, the Jim Bann (James Spann 😆) weather reference had me giggling. This book is heartfelt, tender, and full of the kind of love everyone dreams about. It’s about healing, hope, and finding home. 10/10 recommend adding this to your TBR! Thank you Kimberly Chance for the opportunity to read the ARC of this book!
🐾: Small Town Romance I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this beautiful book. Never Till Now is set in a small town Dayton Springs where Jensen and Callie have both gotten out of bad relationships in the past. They have different things they are trying to work through emotional but are asked to do a “blind date photo shoot” that they only do to help out their friend Mabels photography business. From there they realize that they are drawn to each other but continue to fight against it (as much as they can 😉)
They take you on a wonderful rollercoaster of love with them that no one wants to get off. You will even fall in love with peaches the deaf dog.
This book is one of those that sticks with you! I'll be thinking about this story for a WHILE! The concept of how the couple first meets (hello stranger photo session!) is such a fun idea and the chemistry between them truly leaps off the page!
I absolutely DEVOURED this book, but also didn't want it to end! The little world of Dayton Springs is such a beautiful small town that you feel right at home in it! And the journey these two characters took me on was such a wild ride, but in the best way!
Tears were shed, gasps were heard, and my heart was absolutely melted! I cannot wait to get my hands on the next one in the series so I can revisit this adorable little town, and my new favorite characters!!
Okay.. this book was EVERYTHING. I love the way that the small town vibe was displayed through the book. Whether through funny southern sayings, close community, or pride in your hometown, this book had it all. The most important thing it had was: LOVE. Callie and Jensen’s love story was something to admire. I love their story and found my self crying at the end because of it all. This was actually my first small town romance and it did not disappoint. I cannot wait to see what Kim puts out next!
I'm so glad Kimberly Chance is publishing again!!!!! I preordered right after the book was announced, and I'm so glad I did. I absolutly loved Chance's YA series, and she really blew my socks off with Never Til Now. As someone born and raised in the south, this absolutly felt like going home. When Callie and Jensen had their first kiss, I had to stop myself from being far too excited in the middle of a hospital cafeteria. Never Til Now is the perfect book to cheer yourself up when life is rough. Book 2 will be an automatic buy.
This small town romance was EVERYTHING that I needed! I have always loved seeing stranger sessions online so the concept of this story was immediately intriguing to me.
From the first few chapters when Callie and Jensen meet I could feel the tension and chemistry. Their first meeting was unconventional but beautiful for these two specifically. Following their first meeting and UNDENIABLE chemistry the journey they went on as individuals and their backstories was inspiring.
This book was wonderful and I can’t wait to read more about my favorite characters in Dayton Springs.
I really liked this book and Ihad a hard time putting it down. The way these characters were introduced was unique. I loved the small town setting and the side characters. The fact that Jensen had tattoos just made me like him more. His character had a lot of depth in a way that just spoke to me. Callie was sweet and understanding and challenging in the best way.
Thank you Kimberly Chance for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. Releasing on August 5th 2025
This was a beautifully written story that flowed from beginning to end. From the first time Callie and Jenson met, their witty banter, southern charm, and obstacles they overcome together; this book reeled me in and I had a hard time putting it down. I would recommend Never Til Now for anyone that loves a slow burn, small town romance.
Thank you Kimberly Chance for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. I look forward to reading more of your books!
I was immediately pulled in by the voice in the first chapter, and the set up of the romance was delightful and gave me all the feels. This sweet romance has a lovely undercurrent of character growth and hurt that needs to be healed, and I really enjoyed how the romance built and showed that change. My favorite scenes involved water---iykyk and I think Kimberly Chance's debut adult romance hits all the right notes. Highly recommend it!
Oh, the yearning! *sighs* I adored this small-town, closed-door romance. Callie and Jensen both hesitantly agree to a stranger/blind date photoshoot, but neither expects such an instant connection with intoxicating chemistry. From there on, these two keep bumping into each other, which would be amazing if both didn't have wounds from the past holding them back. Lots to love about this debut romance. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
This debut romance from Kim Chance will snag you from the first page. Never til Now is charming, witty, and hits right at home (literally) for this small town Alabama girl. The book is a sweet romance (not spicy) and a perfect summer read. I laughed, I cried. I could not put it down. Highly recommend!! Put it on your must-read list.
This book kept my attention all the way through. I read it in one day! I love her writing style, the story just flowed. The characters were believable and the way they met was so fun! I love looking at stranger photo sessions and this book shows one from the strangers side. I can't wait to read another romance from Kimberly Chance!
