Here’s a funny little story guaranteed to provoke giggles from younger boys and girls. It’s the story of little Mucky Ducky, who really loves mud. His idea of great fun is to jump and splash in the squishiest, squashiest mud puddle he can find. But Mommy Duck has different ideas about mud puddles. She wants to keep her little duckling out of mud and mischief. But how will she stop Mucky Ducky from splashing straight into the muddiest, squashiest puddle of them all?
Ducky dives in! is a fun picture book. A lovely little story about a duck who loved to get mucky. He loved to splash about in muddy puddles or in anything that was ‘sludgy, squelchy and slushy’. The more he splashed the more he quacked. Unfortunately for Mucky Ducky his mum wanted him to be squeaky clean. Mucky Ducky continues to try very hard to splash about in the dirtiest of places but Mummy Ducky was always there to stop him. Now there was a millpond and Mucky Ducky planned to jump in what can be the best, sludgiest puddle ever, so he plans a way to do it. What happens next, surprises Mucky Ducky in a good way.
This book was illustrated very well and the way it is presented is fun and very appealing. Early years and KS1 children will absolutely love this story. It contains a lot of repetition and children will be thrilled by the little Mucky Ducky and his plans. The book contains a lot of positional language-up, down, beside, under. Therefore children can become familiar with these words and a fun lesson can be the use of drama where the children act out the actions of mucky ducky. This is a great picture book that can bring classrooms to life.
A humorous tale of a duck who loves to get mucky. His mother tries to keep him clean, but fails spectacularly when she accidentally slides into the pond and duck and mother have the most fabulous muddy time.
