They share modest lives and uncommon bonds amidst the great physical beauty of the Lowcountry.

Author Roger Pinckney captures the cadence of the coastal Southland in this coming of age story of a young boy, his sheriff father and a cast of colorful characters blended by culture, circumstance, history and root power. This one book best describes what makes the Lowcountry tick along so gloriously.

I belive this book is based loosely on the life and times of
the REAL sherrif of Beaufort County, SC Ed McTeer. However, it
was still interesting to read and note the actual places in Beaufort,SC.
