Social worker turned Private Eye Gus Keane returns in this gripping murder mystery
If something happens in Salford, Manchester, it is generally bad news and when two dead bodies turn up within a few hours of one another, it is no exception. With the local force stretched to the limits and firing blanks ex-rugby player Gus Keane is asked to step in to help find the culprits. What follows is an ever thickening plot as Keane gradually begins to unravel a mystery from Salford's shady past.
I enjoyed the writing style. It was easy to read, the characters were readily identifiable and three-dimensional. What you saw was what you got. Most thrillers, or police procedurals are cold & clinical; it felt more real to have Gus mentioning what he had for breakfast, the pub quiz and sporting events going on while the case unfolded. It's called real life. It can be a mess sometimes. I prefer that approach to the sanitised, politicised version that TV often portrays.
a great mystery book as it kept you guessing who was the murderer. I really enjoyed trying to guess who did it. Wasn't who I expected that's for sure. Loved Gus' personality but wish he change his mind I'm marriage. But it was a really good read
The second book following private eye Gus Keane. This time a paedophile is murdered in Salford England and through his connections with Child Services Keane is asked to tap into a bit of local knowledge. When he gets more than he bargained for there is another murder, this time closer to home. Can he get to the bottom of the killings before the killer gets him? Bud Craig writes in a laid back, enjoyable style and captures well the colourful life up north. Recommend to anyone who enjoys good British contemporary fiction.
This is an enjoyable take on the private investigator genre that follows on from TACKLING DEATH also by Bud Craig. The unlikely hero tracks down a killer after lots of dead leads. Good, intelligent writing.
I gave this book five stars because it was very well written, kept my interest and had a sense of humor. The characters were brought together in an interesting way. This is the second Bud Craig book I have read. Good job.
