Dear Future Husband

Rate this book
For years, Maybelle Mason has imagined herself running. Escaping her mind, her circumstances, the traumas of her past—all of it. Only one thing has kept her here, kept her breathing, kept her hoping. A journal she has poured her heart into. A journal written for the one she plans to love forever. With a past wrought with pain and fear, Maybelle did her best to become invisible. She hid herself in the folds of life, content to go unnoticed. But as she navigates the last few days of her high school career, she faces a future lacking hope. While she wants to change it, she isn’t sure she can... until tragedy strikes.

A year later, Maybelle wakes from a coma to find she has no recollection of the past that once crippled her. Or of the boy who spent the last year waiting patiently by her bedside.

Trey Turner had it all. He had the exceptional grades, the D1 college football contract, and an apartment with his teammate and best friend. Except one thing evaded him... Her.

Trey always had a thing for his best friend’s twin sister. But Maybelle Mason remained far from his reach, immune to his charm, unlike most. Despite his feelings for the quiet girl, he tried his best to move on with his life until his world fell apart.

As Trey sits by the side of the girl in the coma, he finds a journal. One filled with hope, stories and a personality he hadn’t yet had the privilege of meeting. Each one of Maybelle’s written words were all dedicated to her future husband. After taking a curious peek at the opening of the journal, Trey couldn’t stop himself from continuing. Or falling in love with the girl who lived on the pages.

While Maybelle is awake, she suffers from amnesia. Although she doesn’t remember the family she lost or Trey, the past that once held her captive doesn’t weigh her down. Trey finds that though the girl he is in love with is finally awake. He has longer to wait for her to see him as the one deserving of that priceless book of letters.

~4.25 stars!!
This is such a good debut book omgg, I’m truly so impressed by it. It’s more than just your basic romance rest assured, and it really succeeded my expectations in that department.

It’s more than definitely however, isn’t the cutesy summer read I was expecting 😂😭. It’s got some heavier topics so pls check out the trigger warnings before reading.
This book is DEVASTATING but the romance is in fact devastatingly beautiful. This book has put me through all the feels, including fucking sobbing 😭. So here’s the trigger warning I didn’t get- this book is so god damn sad. But it’s also so worth it. It also made me smile and laugh and giggle <33

This book is so much more than just some romance and I love it for that. And THE CHARACTERS!! Omfg I love them

Maybelle~
She’s me, she’s probably also you as well. This lass is so freaking relatable omg, and shes a reader eeeee 🤭. Maybelle is so strong and I love her

Chelsea~
THE sweetest woman alive. I love her smmmm

Trey~
*adds to cart*
He’s so book boyfriend material it’s crazy. He’s perfect and he is the standard. The way he’s so obsessed with her 🤭😩

I would like to point out that I haven’t actually finished this yet 😭😭 (I’m so sorry) so this review is based on my experience with the book currently and what I know. I would 100% recommend this book though and I can’t wait to finish it. I’m just in a reading slump fyi

In summary, please read this and support the author!!

DFH is an upper YA college romance with a strong message of hope. Our main characters are two young individuals that embody what it means to live and not just survive. They show off an example of friendship, family and a love you know lasts beyond the pages.

Content warnings:
• Death of a loved one
• Abuse
• Trauma
• Depression
• Physical Violence
• It does briefly reference topics like SA but is not detailed.

Overall, as you read, I hope you find joy in the dark and find the desire to “live like Maybelle”. Happy reading.

I haven’t had a romance book make me feel so many emotions before. This took me back to the smitten days where I met my dear future husband in high school & I loved it. I felt like a giddy teenager again reading this story. It then took me on an emotional rollercoaster that was heartbreaking & beautiful.

Taryn, you have a gift my friend! I’m so proud of you & hope you know how much I love & admire you.

Hi guys, I'm so exited to share with you my review for "Dear future husband".
A big thank you to the author Taryn Christeen for permitting me to be an early reader.
I created a playlist even though there was already an official one because I was a bit (a lot) obsessed with this book.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6Y5...
Soooo here we go.
I discovered the book through the youtube channel of the author and I was VERY hyped up and let's just say that it litterally went above my expectation. If the book as journals or letters, I'll always be here to read it. I was so attached to the characters that I didn't want to finish at some point because I feared that I will feel empty after reading it. It directly went into my comfort book list. Definetly gonna do a reread someday. I am not usually a fan of the amnesia trope but it was done perfectly so I'm not gonna complain.
Let's talk more about the characters :

Maybelle :
Her character developpement was incredible. Seing her overcome her fears, falling in love, having friends was... I don't even have the words. I really love her.

Trey :
My husbandddd. This guy made it into my book boyfriends list so quickly lol. I think he totally worship her and I'm totally ok with that. And I think you guys will love him as well. Big up to his mom for raising an amazing son and being incredible as well.

Trey's friends :
Imma group them together but I love them they are incredible and really funny. Mention to Noah <333

Penny :
My girllll I can't wait to read more about her ;)
She's amazing and she was really the friend maybelle needed.

Liam:
I'm crying

There are so many characters to talk about but I'll let you discover them on your own

Trigger warning ⚠️: Abuse, grief, ptsd, death, SA (non graphic)
Spice level : No spice
Age rating : 15-16 (depends on maturity because I read it sooner than that)

I'm probably gonna buy the physical version once it comes out to support the author.

**SPOILERS — avoid if you don’t want any!**

I can’t even begin to express how excited I was to dive into this book. From the moment I started Maybelle and Trey’s story, I was completely hooked. The narrative is filled with emotional highs and lows, along with some unexpected plot twists that genuinely took me by surprise. By the time I was only 30% in, I was already head over heels for the storyline and knew I had to finish it in one sitting.

Without giving too much away, I loved how the author wove certain themes throughout the story—it even reminded me of Meagan Brandy’s, Say You Swear, an another favorite of mine. One of the biggest highlights was the found family dynamic and the deep bonds between past characters and Maybelle. Watching Maybelle grow and come to terms with the hardships she and her family endured was truly powerful. Trey’s presence added meaningful depth, shaping their relationship across past and present, even while she has no memory of anything.

I really loved Trey’s addiction to the journal and how sharing it with May helped her come out of her shell and find the support she needed to rediscover herself. The way each of their friends played a role in shaping and supporting May was beautiful as well. One character I didn’t expect to love as much as I did was Chelsea, Trey’s mom. Her unconditional acceptance of May—even if May chose not to be with Trey—and her promise to support her no matter what genuinely surprised me and touched my heart.

This book is an absolute must-read, and I’m already planning to read it again!

I was lucky enough to be chosen to read this ARC and i can say it did not disappoint! I don’t normally gravitate towards romance novels and this one surprised me and blew me out of the water! It was not cheesy, dealt with real life problems and was just written so beautifully! Trey is for sure my new favorite book boyfriend!

During read- I am so lucky to have gotten an ARC of this incredible book. I'm only 60% in, but I've cried and laughed in the same chapter. Who the hell can do that? I freaking love this book with all my heart and can't wait to finish it!!! Thank you so much, Taryn <3

After read-
OH MY GOSH. I cannot believe what I just read. The plot twists were insane. The romance was spicy and sweet in the best mixture. The longing and emotions were so beautifully written.
Let's just put this out there, this is another one of my favourite books. This is my first ARC ever, and I am so thankful to Taryn for granting me this opportunity, and this book will be in my mind for the rest of my life.
The writing in DFH is absolutely gorgeous because she adds in this side of yeah, this is my thoughts and feelings in a funny way, while also being incredibly poetic and writing like the fate of the planet is lying on it.
As you can probably tell, I love this book, easy 5 stars, but will it be 6 stars? Hopefully, but I will sit on it for a bit and hopefully it issssss.
Overall, PLEASE READ THIS BOOK IF YOU LOVE LONGING ROMANCES AND EMOTIONSSSS

“A second chance is an opportunity offering a fresh start to redeem oneself or achieve a desired outcome”

It was such a cute book. With lots of sweet moments. For me personally this book was too spicy for me, but overall the writing was really good and had just enough details.

Somethings I didn’t like was “my girl” “my Mayhem” “My Maybelle Mason”. I just think that it was a little cringe. I also didn’t like the mention of modern things like YouTube, Call of Duty, and COD.

Things I loved was the premise of the story and I love how connected I feel to the characters. I loved all the characters and how they interacted with each other. It made it seem real in the best way possible.

Thank you Taryn for the ARC of your book. It was such a beautiful story. I enjoyed reading this book into the late hours of the night. 🩷

i was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Dear Future Husband 🫶🏼
Based on the description alone, it immediately reminded me of Say You Swear by Megan Brandy (one of my absolute favorite romance books of all time) and after finishing this one, i can say that it is a beautiful comparison but still so unique.
If you’re looking for a heartfelt, emotional, and devastating (but in a good way) romance story, look no further than Dear Future Husband. 🙌
I smiled, I laughed, I cried. What more could i ask for?
The most beautiful thing about this book was the FOUND FAMILY aspect. I truly fell in love with each and every character and wanting to know everything about them.

I really enjoyed this, it gave me “the vow” movie vibes but with younger adults, and adding its own unique twist.

It was tragic, heartbreaking and at the same time kind of consoling because of the immense love that was shown from quite literally everyone minus one character. The found family was heavy in this book and it’s honestly one of my favourite tropes, I appreciated that every character was so kind, caring and easily accepting.

The love story between Trey and Maybelle is sweet. I did find it a little predictable, which isn’t a bad thing at all - sometimes I don’t want the surprise of a century and I want comfort - which I found many times in this read!

This was so refreshing to read. I’ve been so bored with romance the last few months because I’ve been looking for something like THIS!

For fans of: Say you swear by Meagan Brandy, love and other words by Christina Lauren, or before we were strangers by Renee carlino!

A childhood friends to lovers story, with tragedy mixed in. This had heart, emotion, and also enough twists to keep you wanting to turn the page.

Trey is the definition of “if he wanted to he would” trope.

This was so incredibly impressive for a debut book, and I truly can’t wait to see what Taryn comes up with next! If you are in a book slump - pick this up!

A 6 stars read✨

To the wonderful author of this book, again, thank you so much for letting me be a part of the ARC readers of such a well written gorgeous love story.

You will cry, you will laugh (cuz our girl is just too funny and adorable) and you will fall in love. The story will break your heart in so many different ways, but worry not, it will also heal you. This book is more than just a love story. It is about the journey of the wonderful young adults in these book, as they navigate life through survival and healing.

There are not enough words out there for me to explain just how crazy in love I am with the love story and with our MMC - Mr. Trey Turner - the new standard. Trey is so caring, so charming and just so loving. He waited for our girl, Maybelle, he waited and he did let anything stand in the way to be with her. He never gave up on Maybelle, he gave her everything she needed and he did not rush her into anything. Trey is just the best man ever.

Our girl, Maybelle is just so precious for this world. I have never read a book before that I felt so connected with. Sure all the books I have read before are good and swoon-worthy. However, the way Maybelle is written is just so relatable. She has fears and doubts, she has a dark past, she writes a secret journal, and she reads romance books when the world gets too tough. I just relate with her so much, when I was reading the book, it felt like I was one of her friends, that I was one of the people that were eating for her. In some parts, it felt like I was her. Maybelle may be too quiet and quirky, but those are the elements within her that pulls you in. Again, she was written for all the hopeless romantic girlies out there (one of them being me) I just love her. One out of the many relating elements that I have with Maybelle, is the fact that she writes a journal for her future husband. I don't have a whole journal; however, I do have a journal entry, where I prayed for my future husband. Said future husband is not in my life yet, I do know that my Trey will come. This was actually the aspect that drew me in and kept me hooked in with the book.

The love story between these two makes you want to believe in love again. Love is patience, the one for you will come. In our generation, it is so rare and hard to find a love that is true and pure, these two have that. Patience will help you find that kind of love story, a pure love story is not rushed. It builds you both together for the future.

Other than the sweetest love story we get to read in the book, the found family in the book was so darling. The friendship present in this book was simply everything; from to way to they protected each other, to the way they took care of each other and love one another, it was such a warming feeling to read about. The found family in the book is truly something you want to be a part of.

I am not saying all of these just because I am part of the arc-readers. I am saying these because of genuine honesty. I have been waiting for these book to come out. From the moment I stumbled upon the YouTube of this author. I knew I wanted to read the book. This book went through a rollercoaster ride, and I will be forever grateful to our passionate and driven author for the giving up. Thank you for letting the people have this story. Thank you for having that drive and determination to have this book out. I will be forever grateful for that.

I hope that many people will love this book as much as I do. I hope that many people will relate to our girl because, truly she is just the best. I hope that the right people will find this book. This book will forever hold a special place in my heart. I will never move on from this book 🫶

I’d like to start off by saying that I’m apart of the Arc team selected to read this book in exchange for an honest review (: I’d also like to say a quick thanks to the author for writing this book because I fell in love with this book!

Okay, let’s get started with this review!

✨Review time✨
I knew I was going to adore this book from the first word on the page, but I can’t tell you how much this book deviated me 😭 it was like I handed the book a knife and it stabbed me 🥲 I can’t blame anyone for that but myself 🙃

Plot: I absolutely devoured the concept of this book! Like who wouldn’t want to read a heart reaching book that they know is going to rip their heart out and place it back in their chest?

- falling in love through letters
- YA Collage romance
- Memory loss (amnesia)
- he falls first and a heck of a lot harder (he’s obsessed with her in every single good way 💕)
- this book is laced with grief and something addictive

Characters:

Maybelle:This girl is kind of relatable 😭 like I would run away from a handsome guy who called me pretty too (probably)
Also the way she is obsessed with books is so real🙃 (I practically breath books)

Trey: Yes, I fell in love with the way he loves his girl 🥰 I love the way that he waits for her <3

Penny: I liked her character from the moment I read her name <3

Daniel: okay, we know you’re in love with a certain red haired girl dude

Bear: I love his personality so so so much! The fact that he also cooks, girl knows how to make a girl swoon!

Liam: my love 😭
<3

Chelsea: I need her as my mom ASAP

✨Romance✨
They were absolutely perfect for each other 😭🫶<3

Age rating: 15-16+
Trigger/ content warnings:
- Grief
-Death
- Substance abuse
- SA (not graphic)
- Book may make you sob uncontrollably
- True love 💕
- Character obsessed with Pop Tarts
- Brief swearing

I was grateful & fortunate to receive an ARC of this book! It was my first ARC and I was really excited to dive into this!

To start the prose was good and felt well throughout. I really liked the concept of a journal and writing to a future spouse. I liked Maybelle’s character but she didn’t feel quite whole to me. Personally I felt like she was too Trey focused that she couldn’t “stand on her own” / I wanted her to have more agency in the book. I wanted to know who she was outside of a guy.
I’ve been reading a lot of literary romance & fiction lately so my opinion might be a bit biased towards a different perspective as I haven’t been actively reading romance but on that note I did enjoy the romance between Trey and Maybelle. Though cliche it was cute. I liked that it felt like he knew her well and paid attention to her.

I wish Maybelle had at least a friend in the beginning part of the book. She was an isolated character and then only had eyes for Trey, it just felt like it made her character fall a bit flat. The sibling dynamic between Maybelle and Liam was sweet but some of their conversations felt forced.

I enjoyed this book for the most part though. I think it was just missing some things. Thank you Taryn for the arc <3

ARC Review:

What can I say about this one? Heartbreaking. Refreshing. Frustrating. Beautiful… I felt like this story (without giving anything away) was such a big change from many other romance novels. While there’s still attraction and passion, there’s an emotional and mental depth to each added character. It’s not just about the two people we’re rooting for; it’s about everyone. Everything.

I am so pleasantly surprised by this one. So new and refreshing , yet consistent with the romance my heart craves. It was so nice to have a FMC I could root for. I felt like the story just made sense and had to go as far as it did (no matter how much I wished some things hadn’t happened because it’s just so freaking sad 😭). Considering everything, it’s the difficult choices that Taryn made that made it so much easier to lose myself in the pages. Be ready to have your heart strings pulled while also having your faith restored in the idea of love ♡

P. S. I hope she’s already started on another book cause she’s quickly becoming one of my favorite authors 🤍

But truly I devoured it in two days, I didn't want to put it down. It's the most wholesome and heart wrenching story! I definitely shed a tear or two. Taryn Christeen writes like Emily Henry where you're pulled into the world and feel truly seen by each character throughout the story. It's like she went in my mind and wrote this book! So so good!! And it's a must read! Now time to go cry cause it's over :)

I'm not the type of person that cries easily over books. But this book... This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. I went from crying to kicking my feet and giggling multiple times, all while telling myself "One more chapter" over and over again. I'm speechless. Dear Future Husband is the book I've cried the most over. It was heartbreaking but also so cute! The concept is amazing and the main characters were so lovable! Seriously, this is the best book I've read in a long time. I'm recommending it to anyone who loves feeling many emotions at the same time. Thank you so much for this masterpiece, Taryn.

Truthfully, it’s probably a bad idea for me to try and write this review immediately after closing the last page of this book. But I don’t care, because if there’s one thing this book earned, it’s raw emotion. I am OBSESSED with this novel. Yeah, it’s a romance, but it’s so different than any romance I’ve ever read. This book is deep, and absolutely heart shattering, but it’s also so beautiful and a breath of fresh air. As much as this seemed for a while like a love story between two people who didn’t know each other (or, at least, Maybelle not knowing Trey), it truly was a love story between two people destined for each other despite all the universe’s attempts to destroy them.

I loved everything about this book, but I’m not sure much can compare with my complete adoration for Trey’s friends. I selfishly hope we get a stand-alone for each and every one of them! Their relationships and love for Maybelle were just the sweetest things ever. And of course, Trey Turner is to die for. Like GIRL. I certainly understand what he means about falling in love with someone on a page, because holy man if my future husband isn’t exactly like him I don’t know what I’ll do.

Okay, I can be done ranting now, but I’ll never be done loving this book. It made my heart race, it shattered my heart and then shattered it again and again, and it inspired me and made me believe in true love like Maybelle’s
journal made her believe in it. This book was so much more than I expected to be; I am so obsessed. I could not recommend this book more, but be prepared to read it front cover to back in one sitting—you won’t be able to put it down. (Oh, and that last line?! Beautiful beautiful.)

If you loved the vow you will devour this book.

It’s such a touching, transportive story of patience and persistence. With a found family. I love how you get to grow with Maybelle and Trey. You see their struggles, strength, and loyalty all unfold in the story. You see a beautiful friendship develop into everything they both need.

Honestly this story just hit the feels and I loved that it had low spice so it didn’t take away from the story.

“take me home” 🏡 🩵

this concept is stunning. the origin makes my heart burst aka taryn’s own journal to her future husband. the characters are relatable and lovable. the love is so strong and raw and passionate i could feel it through my phone screen. the story is so tragic but also beautiful. it was fast paced and sometimes a little too fast. i would have loved some of the moments to have slowed down and just taken a beat or two to let us sir with the characters in those moments. also i loved that xavier was at the grave site with them i needed to see him pop up again and hannah lacy though i do wish hannah and maybelle had more time together post crash because their friendship really hooked me in at the beginning and would have loved to see them lean on each other.

justice for liam and stephanie 💔💔💔💔

thank you soooo much to taryn for trusting me with you baby and letting me vent in your dms. cannot wait for release day so happy for you and can’t wait for what’s next for you xxxx

jaw-dropping plot twists that start VERY SUDDENLY early on and keep going and the feeling of dang can these characters catch a break please?? a book of yearningggg! without spoiling too much, their love story is so innocent and sweet despite the trauma themes - which there is a lot of trauma that makes you feel for the characters. the initial feeling of “oh we know stuff and she doesn’t know any of it”. love confessions throughout that are so sweet. love the different pov’s to get in their heads individually. maybelle’s character growth is also a 180 change that will have you rooting for her (if you weren’t already rooting for her). there’s so much closure at the end that makes it all worth it too.

this is my first ever ARC reading and i’m so grateful i got to read it early :)) i absolutely ate the story up and read it in a day!
