I absolutely LOVED this debut Romantasy by Amanda Carnahan. It is a love story. It is a story of two fated lovers who are both broken, but together can heal, and is a must read for those who have ever been anxious in their lives. Carnahan weaves a story that pulls deeply on all of your emotions in the best way, and if you love FMC/MMC banter, this book is for you. The magic system is a lovely twist, and you will be ecstatic that you decided to follow this couple on their journey of discovery, of learning to love who they are and each other. Declan and Elena will quickly become one of your favorite literary couples as they try to save their world from epic evil. Did I mention some celestial intervention? Don’t delay! GRAB THIS BOOK!

This book was a fun wild ride from start to finish. The magic system was good and I liked the worldbuilding. Mental health was very represented here as well. Lena and Declan had good chemistry. There was lots of will they/wont they. There were also a lot of twists that kept separating them and that added to the tension. I am excited to see what happens next!

The book takes place in the Kingdom of Ehora, where power belongs to the Elysian, beings chosen by the Gods to wield dynamis (magic). Elena must confront not only the shadows within herself, but the encroaching darkness that threatens all of Ehora.
She is then forced into a tumultuous journey, along side the Lord of Shadow, Prince Declan.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, from beginning to end!!!
Amanda Carnahan eloquent writing style brought to life each and every character; from their physical attributes, magic abilities, and even their emotional turmoil.
The descriptive world building, made it so easy to transport yourself to the Kingdom of Ehora.

The FMC - Elena and MMC Declan aside from being 2 of the strongest people in their world, both are emotionally tainted from traumatic past events.

The mental health representation in the book; literally screams out the importance of knowing you are never alone and you can overcome the darkness.
This book will definitely have you in your feelings!!!!

I highly recommend adding this book onto your TBR !!
Thank you, to the amazing Amanda Carnahan for the opportunity to be part of your ARC Team! ❤️

This book has beautiful imagery and exceptional writing. This story captures all of the emotions. I have such a connection with the FMC. So many mirrors in my own life - I feel a deep soul connection to her, but at the same time I can find similarities to the MMC too. I struggle with anxiety, anger, questioning my worthiness and have carried shame for so many things in my life. It has taken years to finally heal some of those parts of my broken soul. This book is a beautiful, heart wrenching, journey and an example of how healing the power of love and hope can be.

I love the banter between characters. The sass and stubbornness from both main characters cracked me up! Found family is one of my favorite tropes and this was so well done. Unique magic system with so many facets. Reading this story felt like coming home.

All the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, kicking my feet and all the anger for "Jafar" - my personal name for the bastard in this book.

This book has inspired me to write more. It has helped me find my fire again. I hope I can capture my characters and readers in a way that books like this do. This will live rent free in my brain for a long time. It broke me and put me back together in all of the best ways. I love this book so much! 6 stars

This book gave me the same feelings I get from reading LJ Andrews' books. One of my favorite reads. I crave more of this world. These characters feel like found family and I am completely sad to leave it. I cannot wait to see how the next book unfolds. Please don't make me wait too long... Otherwise, a spoon might not be enough. 😉

I absolutely love this book. I missed reading a fantasy book with an incredible worldbuilding, good characters and the plot twists. I absolutely love what is the subject is revolving here in this book and how the main characters need to find themselves and trust each other to win in this battle with that evil creature, Alastor.

The side characters were chef’s kiss, I loved their dynamics of found family and the scene with drinking game in the tavern was my absolutely fav besides the training scenes!! I swear I need some friends like them. ❤️

Elena is our fmc who lives in a city as a Healer, after her mom she helps the locals with elixirs. But at Ascension she find out she has another dynamis, powers, and the Shadow Lord, the Prince of their realm, take her in the capital. The journey between Elena and Declan was so fun, full with tension and I was rooting for them from the start. Elena is a strong character, sassy and feisty and I loved her evolution.

That’s a great fantasy book and even there are 622 pages, this book pulled you in and you can’t let it down. I recommend it to all of the fantasy books lovers! ⭐️✨

Was blessed by Amanda to be an ARC reader for her debut romantasy (romance/fantasy) novel. This story is one of 2 fated lovers, Declan and Elena, who find themselves surrounded by evil after Elena goes through her accession, unlocking her "gifts" from celestial beings. She soon finds out what a strong female she has become when she discovers the Light Pheonix isn't all she's been given to defend her world of Ehora from the epic evil that surrounds her, and the ones she loves. Both our MMC AND FMC are uniquely broken and grow together to find love and healing. Throughout the book, Carnahan brings awareness to what it feels like to be drowned in anxiety every waking moment of the day. I appreciate her bringing mental health as a topic in this book with our characters, anyone dealing with anxiousness, this is a must-read. ♡ Amanda has created a story that pulls our emotions out of us in the best of ways. There's so much that happens in this book, from the characters finding themselves and who they have become, to the witty banter back and forth from the FMC to the MMC to the FMC to all the side characters. It's full of magic at every page turn and a twist that will have you on the edge of your seat, wanting more even when you are finished reading. They are one of the couples in the books you are bound to love!

Rising Out of the Darkness by Amanda Carnahan completely consumed me—in the best possible way. It’s got everything: fated mates, divine magic, an unhinged king, a reluctant heroine with spoon-based combat skills (yes, really), and a shadowy love interest who wears guilt and glasses equally well.

Elena Morrigan is powerful, anxious, self-doubting, and so incredibly real. Her journey from broken to badass is written with such heart it made me cry (more than once). And Declan? The Lord of Shadows? He’s dark, dangerous, emotionally damaged… and I’d sell my soul for him to call me “good girl” just once.

Between the high-stakes plot, jaw-dropping lore drops, snarky banter, and sizzling slow-burn tension, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The worldbuilding is lush, the emotions are raw, and the spoon-related chaos is chef’s kiss.

If you like emotionally vulnerable men, morally gray magic, shadowy secrets, and a heroine who grows into her power while holding onto her sass—this book is for you. I’ll be counting the days until the next one drops.

Also, can someone check on the author? Because this was way too good for book one.

This book truly shines, largely thanks to its captivating MMC, Declan. His presence alone was enough to keep me hooked! The storyline is engaging, and by the end, I was desperate to know what happens next. While I didn't fully connect with the MFC, Elana, in this first installment, I'm genuinely excited to see her character develop and grow. The overarching message of the book – that you are stronger than you realize and can overcome anything – resonated deeply for me. If you're looking for fated mates, divine magic, emotionally damaged characters, and where you can root for an FMC as she navigates and ultimately rises above her struggles, this one's for you!

Thank you to Amanda and her team for allowing me the privilege to be one of the first readers to experience this book. I look forward to Book 2 of the series.

If you're looking for a book that will make you feel a wide variety of strong emotions towards characters, this is it. I did not expect to run through the amount of emotions I did. The mental health representation in this book is really well thought out and at times I felt like my own mental health struggles were being described. With how realistic the human emotions are described in this book, you can't help but feel like protecting certain characters and absolutely loathing others. There are times when you want to wrap Elena, the FMC, into a hug and protect her but then others when you want to shake her and tell her to speak her truth. The same goes for the main MMC, Declan. There are a few side characters that became instant favourites for me and they added so much to the story itself. I really enjoyed reading this book and I'm excited to read what comes next.

Sooo if youre like me and live for a big fantasy world with magic that feels real, found family that gives you all the feelssss, and a romance that has you fully kicking your feet you need this book like rn

we're thrown into the Kingdom of Ehora right into the chaos with Elena.
sooo girly is suddenly dealing with a rebellion, magic she never knew she had and some seriously creepy darkness thats threatening to swallow everything. then there's Declan the Lord of Shadows himself.
my favvv part was these two go from basically strangers who can't stand each other to slowly learning to trust one another oh and the tensionnn omg.

wow the mental health reppp, both Elena and Declan are carrying some really heavy stuff and the way they support each other while still fighting their own battles just was done really well. It made them feel so easy to connect with ya know? It didn't take away from the fantasy at all it just made the whole story so much better.

lemme talk about the worldbuilding for a sec bc I was soooo here for it. The magic, secrets, twists that kept coming out of nowhere I literally couldnt stop reading. also im obsessed with declannn

That ending plzI'm not okay. I need book two rn because I am not ready to leave Ehora and these people behind.

Rising Out of the Darkness completely wrecked me in the best way.

This is a beautiful story about love, resilience, self-belief, and finding the strength to keep going even when your own mind is fighting against you. I felt so seen throughout this book. Declan and Elena, our two main characters, both struggle with anxiety and panic attacks, and the way their inner battles are portrayed felt painfully real. That constant voice telling them they aren’t enough, the fear, the exhaustion of trying to hold everything together and it truly felt like the author was speaking directly to me.

Watching Declan and Elena slowly learn to rely on each other, to encourage and support one another, was incredibly moving. As they grow together, their strength grows too, and that journey was one of the most beautiful parts of the story.

The magic system is stunning and deeply symbolic. Power is fueled by emotion, and each type of magic reflects the wielder’s personality and inner world : earth for those who are calm and grounded, fire for the passionate and temperamental, and more. It was thoughtful, meaningful, and honestly one of my favorite magic systems I’ve read in a long time.

And then there’s the found family… my absolute weakness. The bonds in this book are forged through pain, loyalty, and shared hardship, and the way these characters protect and love each other is pure perfection. Add in a shadow-wielding MMC (yes, Declan is a shadow wielder and I adore him), and I was completely sold.

The final plot twist genuinely caught me off guard, and I loved it. I cannot wait to continue this story and see where it goes next. What an incredible debut novel. Amanda Carnahan is absolutely an author to watch.

Thank you, Beyond The Books PR, for this ARC!

Rising Out of the Darkness blew me away! From the first page, I was immersed in the Kingdom of Ehora and captivated by the divine magic, political unrest, secrets, and the impending darkness threatening everything!

Elena Morrigan made a compelling and memorable FMC. Her journey is rich, complex, and complicated -- discovering her powers as the Light Phoenix while also dealing with anxiety, self-doubt, and a consuming darkness. It made her so relatable to have that mental health representation!

Our MMC, Declan—the brooding Lord of Shadows, is completely dreamy! The slow-burn romance between Elena and Declan was everything I could want in a romantasy: tension, longing, emotional vulnerability, and palpable chemistry. Their relationship develops alongside their personal growth, making every moment between them feel earned. I couldn't wait for shared moments between them!

The unique magic system completely drew me in, along with the found family dynamics, and the balance between epic fantasy stakes and deeply personal character arcs. Amanda Carnahan created a unique, immersive world while delivering a story centered on hope, healing, and finding your strength as you face your darkest, lowest moments.

If you love romantasy with yearning, found family, shadow-wielding love interests, emotionally rich character arcs, and a heroine learning to embrace her power, add this one to your TBR immediately.

I am not sure words can describe how I feel about this book 📖
Maybe I’ll just say “IT SLAYYYED” Cause it did 😉

First off… Amanda was absolutely brilliant with the world building. I didn’t even have to try and paint the picture, it went full 3D in my head without effort. The dimensions and depth she gives her characters is incredible. I was rooting for all the side character development along with Elena (FMC) and Declan (MMC)
The mental health rep was PHENOMENAL 🙌🏻💚
Elena and Declan both struggle with anxiety all throughout the book… among other issues. The coping mechanisms, the descriptions of panic attacks, her nightmares, the darkness creeping in… it all felt so relatable for someone who has the exact same experiences. And I loved the light & dark aspect of their relationship.
Elena & Declan… I’m baked… I LOVE THEM 😍
Declan is a complete and total cinnamon roll with a broody exterior. Elena is fierce and armed with a fighting spirit and even sassier attitude.
His nickname for her? K!ll me; I’m done 😜
That is if the sloooww burn 🔥 didn’t get me first.
The ending got me soooo hard… and if the bad guy doesn’t pound sand in the next book; I’m jumping in and taking the reins.

Amazing, stunning, compelling, and beautiful read.

This is an amazing debut Romantasy and I am excited to read more from Amanda Carnahan in the future!! This story is a beautiful story about hope and resilience and forgiveness and love. It has wonderful mental health representation and it will bring tears to your eyes. I received this book as an eARC from the author (thank you, Amanda!! I will gladly be your arc reader again!! 🫶🏼). This voluntary review is my honest thoughts and opinions about the book. I began reading it back in August and it sucked me right in! I could quickly see the beautiful theme of hope and I loved it! Sadly, I had overcommitted myself on arc reads and once the release date for this book came and went and I hadn’t finished it on time, I set it aside so that I might finish others on time. Here it is December and I finally am at a place where I can pick it back up and you know what, that’s exactly how it went! I picked it up and began reading and just jumped right back in the story. It was as if I had never left. These characters are written to love (well almost all of them are to love, iykyk) and you won’t soon forget them!! There is open door spice in this story, I’d rate 2/5 🌶️. It’s open door but not overly descriptive. You should certainly check TW before diving in as well because this book gets intense. But the payoff is so worth it and I absolutely cannot wait to continue with this story!! Declan and Elena are goals. And the found family is everything! This book doesn’t exactly end on a cliffhanger but it will certainly leave you wanting more.
Quotes that I loved:

“I am the light. No darkness can bind me. I have it within me to hold and to guide me.”

“It’s in our fears and our weaknesses that we reveal our strengths.” Her brows furrowed as I spoke. “Let me put it this way, if we were never knocked down, how would we ever learn the strength we have inside us to get back up and try again?” 🥹🥹🥹

“…because it’s in the darkness that our light shines the brightest.”

“Remember what I told you, sometimes we must take risks to be with the ones we love. If you’re not willing to fight for that love with all you have, then it’s not a love worthy of the chase.”

“We need to learn how to forgive ourselves. How can we expect others to do the same if we don’t even allow ourselves the same courtesy?”

EXCUSE ME. Read this book if you want to be emotionally healed and then emotionally devastated and then anxiously awaiting book two!

This book had me sobbing for probably 70% of it, but it was the good heart wrenching sobs. This book discusses mental health more thoroughly then any book I think I've ever read. I almost feel like I went through a therapy session. The FMC, Elena, very openly deals with mental health from the beginning of the book. The first thing that set this apart was the MMC, Declan also has his own mental health struggles. Then we have the side characters with theirs. The most beautiful part? They all encouraged each other to talk about what was weighing on their souls and was supportive and helped each other through it. Even when a character felt guilt and shame, their friends tried their hardest to stop their spiraling and look at things differently and wow that was powerful.

Elena was funny and sassy. She didn't let her anxiety stop her from always trying to help others and ultimately believing in herself. I also really appreciated that since their characters don't receive their powers until they're 23, and her Light Phoenix power is so unknown, that you as the reader really are learning about it right alongside her, as well as the just the dynamis (magic system) in general.

The ending left me shocked, but in the best way. I'm equal parts scared and excited for book two.

This was such a good story of love, loss, good, and evil. Elena and Declan are such good characters. The light and dark that balance each other but burn with so much passion. What a fantastic way to end it on a cliff hanger too. I can't wait for the next book!

Favorite Quotes:

"Resilience is by far the most powerful strength one can have. Anyone who can survive being beaten down and yet still rise with the sun each day is someone I would stand next to in battle any day. As a good friend once told me, its in our fears and weaknesses that we discover our strength."

"From the first moment my eyes met yours, I felt your fire, your spirit, burn a path deep down into my soul. You've destroyed every shards of restraint I have, but I'd let you burn through me time and time again, because just one look in your eyes makes me feel like I'm alive. You give me the strength I need to keep fighting, Elena, you've given me a reason to live."

An exciting fantasy romance with a prince who’s been forced into his darker side and the commoner who awakened with powers stronger than they’ve seen in years.

You follow the FMC, Elena, who on her awakening day, defies the expectation of the commoners and comes into more power than they’ve seen in years with both empathy and the power of the light phoenix that hasn’t been seen since the queen was killed. After being emotionally wrecked by her best friend, she is whisked away by the prince and his two closest friends to be taken to the capital and have her power displayed for the king. Along the way, the prince continues to try to get her to unlock more of her powers and the tension between them grows. As they reach the castle, the king offers her help for her town in exchange for behaving, but with someone as sassy as Elena, that’s not an easy task, especially with darker forces in the castle and powers she’s still learning to control.

I really enjoyed getting to see inside both main characters heads as they got to know each other and figured out what they meant to one another. The magic system and world building were both immersive and slowly unraveled as the FMC continued to travel and learn more about her powers. I also love a good villain and can’t wait to see what will happen next! The cast of characters and how they all support the main two as they deal with feelings of not being enough and work through panic attacks also made them relatable as they struggle and use coping mechanisms together. Overall my rating 4.6/5!

Thanks to the author for the gifted copy, all opinions given are my own!

One of the best romantasy books I’ve read in a while. I couldn’t devour it fast enough. Elena is a strong heroine who walks the line of being brave and vulnerable. She’s as easy to cheer for as Declan is to swoon for. The story is an emotional journey as much as it is an epic adventure. The supporting cast of characters adds so much depth to the experience of the main characters. The writing flows so beautiful, I liked how the world building was done through the characters conversations.

I’ll be following along waiting for book 2!!

What an absolutely amazing debut novel. This was such a wonderful romantasy. Right from the start I was pulled in by this phenomenal world building. It was so elaborate and enchanting. The description cast such a beautiful vividness that allowed my mind to wander through this land line I was actually there. The scenery and the lands were so descriptive. Not to mention the depth of the characters and the realism that were created with. I feel like I could feel, taste, see, and hear as if I was standing right next to them. Going through this chaos and bringing light to the darkness. The mental health rep was written with such sensitivity. It was prefect and reflected what it’s like in daily life. I loved Elena and Declan. The way he helped her learn her magic. And their attraction to one another was so sweet to see. I enjoyed this story so much. I truly feel blessed to have been dubbed this as an ARC. And I can’t wait for the next one. Thank you so much Amanda for the opportunity to read this.

✨📖 5 Star Review 📖✨

The Kingdom of Ehora is a world on the brink of chaos. Magic, rebellion, and a creeping darkness set the stage for a story full of danger, betrayal, and impossible choices. At the heart of it all is Elena Morrigan, a young Elysian suddenly gifted with a rare and powerful magic and a destiny she never asked for. Alongside her brooding companion, she’s thrown into a journey that tests her strength, her heart, and the light she carries. 🌑✨🕊️

This book truly had everything I adore. The found family vibe was perfection. Killian, Liam, Clara, Nayla, Eloise… I fell for them all just as much as Elena and Declan. Nothing makes me happier than when an author writes side characters that feel just as alive and essential as the leads. Every scene with the whole group together was just chef’s kiss 🤌💖.

And then there’s Elena and Declan… where do I even start? They had me chuckling, tearing up, and yes…shouting at them to just bloody kiss already 😂. Their dynamic is everything: tender, fiery, heartbreaking, and addictive. The slow-burn tension and emotional depth between them left me utterly hooked.

Some of my favourite quotes (prepare to swoon):

💘 “So, Elena. I’ll wait. For you, and only you. No matter how long it may take. In this life or the next, I’ll be waiting.”

💘 “This heart beats for you and you alone. It will continue to beat for you even after life fades from the realm and my body becomes ash in the wind. My love for you is eternal. You are my soulmate, love.”

💘 “That’s right, Wildfire, you’re mine. Today, tomorrow… forever.”

Amanda Carnahan has crafted a beautifully written, emotionally charged fantasy that blends romance, magic, and heart-stopping stakes. It’s one of those stories that stays with you long after you’ve finished. If you love morally grey companions, forbidden love, found family, and a dash of heartbreak, this is a book you need on your shelf. 🌌🔥

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me. I already know Book 2 is going to destroy me in the best way possible.

Thank you so much Amanda for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of your phenomenal new book. 🩷

You wouldn’t know from just reading “Rising Out of the Darkness” that this is Amanda Carnahan’s debut novel. The way she beautifully character and world developed with ease and depth make this story so easy to imagine. The unique magic system is intriguing and mysterious and I enjoyed how Amanda continued to grow that part of the story through the entirety of the book.

Elena and Declan. Wow. The FMC and MMC, are so relatable. They are both mental heath representatives: anxiety, panic attacks, and hints of depression with feelings of inadequacy and failure. Elena is less experienced with coping with her mental health and although Declan is much more experienced and can coach Elena through some of it, he still struggles with it as well. They both learn to cope with stresses together and lean on each other to combat the darkness inside and out. This made me feel so seen with my own MH struggles and gives feelings of “light at the end of the tunnel”.

Aside from the mental health struggles, both Elena and Declan are magically powerful and show great leadership and passion for the kingdom and those they love. Elena the light 🩷🔆 and Declan the shadow daddy 🖤😏. But don’t mess with Elena because she can still kick some butt on her own.

The overall sarcastic banter was very entertaining and the side characters were well written. Both were the perfect balance to the intensity of the dark emotions and the villain(s) in the story.

THAT ENDING. The twists that lead to it and the cliffhanger, had me committed to finishing the last chunk of the book in just one sitting, even with it being 2am. The ending made me cry and fully emotionally connect, something that doesn’t happen often when reading any more. I’m so looking forward to the next book and wish it was already available!

Thank you again, Amanda! 💚🖤🩷

Oh my Gods

Right from the very beginning, I related to Elena so much. The anxiety, the fear. Her character arc was INSANE AND GLORIOUS. I was shouting and hootin and hollerin the whole time once she found her strength.

Declan--also insanely relatable. and hot. so hot. Favorite shadow daddy ever lol. AND BROODY like we love our shadow daddies to be.

Down to the facts:
I struggled to pull myself away from the book. I like my fair share of fantasy novels but I'm mostly a contemporary girly so you can imagine how shocked I was to be so enthralled with a debut fantasy! The world building was not overwhelming in the slightest! Everything was placed perfectly to where I understood exactly what was happening and I picked up on some of the foreshadowing and let me tell you, the last half of the book? ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT THAT ENTIRE TIME.

It's a SLOW burn so be prepared but boy let me tell you when it starts burning, the fire is HOT, SCOLDING, BOILING.

Found family, strength, hints of female rage, growth, love and hope. All of it was tackled beautifully and the imagery and emotions were so VIVID and tangible. I would give this 1000000000000000000000 stars if I could. Thank you for letting me read this.

There are some books that you read and you think "I probably could have lived my entire life not reading this and it wouldn't have changed anything for me." This is NOT one of those books. You'll be laughing, crying, scared, wanting to throw the book, screaming, and crying again. AND THEN you'll be rereading because you want more but you cn't wait for book two.

To the author:
This is a story that people need to read. You made an absolutely beautiful and devastating book. Thank you for letting me read it. I am so proud of you.

Dang I am honestly so surprised that this is a debut novel. The writing was fun, engaging, and emotional. I thoroughly enjoyed the MC’s and the side characters were all amazing!!! The found family bond is so strong in this one and it was so heartwarming how all the characters really lifted one another up. I did get frustrated with our two Mc’s at times. It felt like for every two steps forward in acknowledging their attraction and pull for one another they would both then take three steps back and get pulled back into the darkness they were both battling, but that frustration came from purely loving these two together and wanting them to finalize their connection not because of the writing by any means. I loved the tension built between them, and the push and pull they gave each other. I loved the elements of magic in this story and the battle between right and wrong, and the balance of the two. The end I thought was great! Even though I know this is book one I was content with where and how this first book left us. I am excited to see how this battle to evict the darkness that plagues their world will be eradicated. I feel like the preparation and bond strengthening is going to be huge in book two, theres still so much to unravel and I am very much looking forward to reading! I received this as an ARC and i feel vey lucky to have been one of the first to get to experience this exciting new book and author! Add it to your tbr I recommend this to anyone who loves slow burns, fantasy, the battle between good vs. evil and a unique take on where their magic is derived from.

The story evolves with Elena, our fmc, dealing with her Ascension blooming (where they are given their further dynamis/magic from the gods), which she is not looking forward to. Elena has always felt unworthy of any dynamis and is riddled with anxiety and self-doubt. Her night terrors consume her and envelope her life. No matter what she does, she feels like she is a burden to all. Her lifelong friend Will doesn't help the matters either!

But on Ascension day, it doesn't exactly go as planned and thus enters the very grumpy/ confusing AF, but delicious Lord of Shadows, Declan, who has been tasked in training Elena. Here is where the story starts to get VERY entertaining.

I have absolutely loved the dynamics between these two and how their relationship evolves, oh, and it is a whirlwind. I have messaged Amanda and the group a few times whilst reading! 😆

Also, a special shout out to two of my very favourite side characters, Killian and Liam! The dynamics between them and Elena are priceless, and I couldn't get enough of them. All the side characters are AMAZING, and you can't help but fall in love with them all.

We have our villains, and yes, you will hate them, and no, you WILL NOT fall in love with this villain!! I have a few choice words for this person!!! Hehe

This story has spoken to me on so many levels. Being an Empath myself, so in true form, I have suffered with anxiety my whole life and the thoughts of not belonging. Thank you, Amanda, for reminding us that we are not alone and to keep fighting ❤️

In the kingdom of Ehora, a young woman plagued with her own inner struggles is chosen by the gods to wield a powerful and rare dynamism, the magic of the Light Phoenix. Upon this discovery, she’s is taken to the King, where she is forced to be a political puppet.

The very broody(but very handsome) Lord of Shadows and prince of the kingdom, Declan Stallard has been tasked with bringing her to the kingdom and helping her train her dynamis along side his most trusted companions.

Elena must try and overcome her innermost fears and demons while navigating a kingdom filled with treachery, betrayal, secrets and a forbidden love.

Declan, struggling for many years with loss, duty and what is right, now has a stubborn and very sassy light phoenix to deal with and struggles to protect her from enemies within the kingdom from secrets, untold truths and his own feelings.

Together they must navigate through lies, a darkness plaguing the kingdom and their own insecurities to save a kingdom.

This story and its enchanting and lovable characters has my heart. The banter was some of the best ever and had me cackling🥄🥄🥄🥄There is so much emotion and vulnerability throughout and it was heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time. You feel every struggle they do and then the found family and friendships, helping each other throughout their darkest hours was just everything. And the twist at the end that I DID NOT see coming….😳😳

Amanda has truly written a masterpiece and I’m so incredibly happy for her!!!

Solid 4.5⭐️ Read 2🌶️ Level

Favorite quote from the book:
“I could never live in a world that’s not illuminated by your light.”

Tropes:
✨Touch Her and 💀
✨Forbiden Love
✨Dual POV
✨Force Proximity
✨Hidden Magic System
✨Found Family

First of all, I can’t believe this is a debut book. I have to say this is the second book of the year that captured my interest just by the world building alone. The first one was Eldrenoire by Elle Wildes.

I can’t express the world building of this book. Once it got ahold of me I could not put it down. Then, I got to a point of the book that the anxiety I was like that meme “I am alive I am 💀” I was ok “I am going to read, oh no something bad is happening, put it down. Walk away, no I need to read. “ I was like this for like 20 mins straight. YEAH, Family just looked at me like I was 🤪.

The yearning was epic, the characters evolution of the MC’s was great, I can honestly say I truly dislike the evil characters immensely, and the pace of the book was right up my alley. The found family in this book truly had me in my feelings!!! I was like I need supporting characters like these in my life. AND The ending …. All I can say is “WHAT an ENDING”

There was something that the evil MMC said to the FMC that stood out to me, which is something along the lines of him making her pay for something she did to him. I will definitely be reading book 2.

Just go pick up the book. You will see what I mean. 😉

When it comes to romantasy, it can be a bit difficult as it takes people that can write a story that helps with wolf building and also allows you to have a plot that can keep your attention. You want it not to fall short either by not being detailed enough without being too wordy or the characters are unable to captivate you enough to keep turning the pages. Carnahan's debut book? It does that and more. The story focuses on how it feels like to never be good enough and find yourself in the limelight as someone that is expected to save it all. The main characters are able to over come anxiety and doubts by themselves and with each other. Watching them grow into the best versions of themselves chapter after chapter was the icing on the cake for me. There was no damsel in distress but a fierce woman that was able to make the best of what she was given and then show the world just what it is like when you cross her. The male lead was no slouch either, his powers and feelings that he thought that he had to hide are some of the very reasons that you fall in love with him. How many times have you been told that you are too much or that they very essence of who you are makes you undesirable to many? Declan and Elena are one of those couples that frustrate you and having you rooting for them in the same breath. This book will make you believe in magic again and pull you into a world that you wished was not only on paper. A definite must read
