Eighteen years ago, the Lull Lane Dollmaker made ten families porcelain dolls as gifts to welcome their children into the world. But what these families didn't know was that souls of lullabies were poured into each one as they were created. Now, the Dollmaker is coming to collect. One by one.
thought they ruined me and got away with it on homecoming night.
I survived.
I got stronger.
For eighteen years their faces have haunted my dreams; the moment of retribution has arrived at last. A part of me died that day; they took something irreplaceable, leaving an ache in my soul.
Now, their children are all grown up, and it’s time for my dolls to enact vengeance before coming home.
This is a Horror Revenge/Tragic Romance. Book 1 of 10 in the Nightmares on Lull Lane shared world.
Nightmare On Lull Lane: Book 1: The Doll Maker Out NOW 👏🏼
I was so excited when I realised I was getting to arc the full 11 books of the Nightmare On Lull Lane series 👏🏼 I’m diving into them all back to back & omg what a way to kick off this series!!!
Savannah thinks things are finally picking up for her, her parents may have abandoned her but they’ve left her with a stepbrother that treats her like a queen! Tripp, he loves her for her & once home-coming is over they’re going to be together & start their own family.
It doesn’t pan out that way though, poor Savannah is brutally attacked by her current boyfriend, bestfriend and all his friends. They abuse her body practically leaving her for dead. Tripp tries to help but he’s also beaten and left broken.
She wants revenge, they all deserve to be tortured in the same way they were….and that they will but not in your typical fashion, no. It may take a little longer but the dolls will see to it 😌
Aghhhh I loved this 👏🏼 I could have cried for Savannah & I hated Jeremy so much! I have fallen in love with this character so fast!! She really does go through hell and back through out this book 😭
This is the first time I’ve ever read anything by Ashlynn but it most definitely won’t be the last! I love this style of writing so much, it’s fast, it’s gripping, it’s gorey & it’s sooo sexy. Loved it!!
Now I’m going straight for book 2! I can’t waaaait to see what’s next 👏🏼🤎
What finally pushes you over the edge? Savannah the cheerleader and homecoming queen, but her world is about to explode and when it does everyone should hide but do they? Will Tripp be able to aid her or be part of the destruction?
It’s a super quick read, with everything you can imagine from a book with this name. Ashlynn leaves you in no doubt where this story will lead or does she? The writing is so precise in its deliverance giving us a little bit of insight into this Lane 😈 Read the trigger warnings or don’t the onus is on you 😉
Wow. Just wow. This book caught me completely off guard, in the best damn way possible.
Side note: Please, I beg your sweet little soul, read the TWs first. Don’t come for me later when you’re clutching your heart and questioning your sanity. You’ve been warned.
For such a short read, this story packs a serious emotional punch, heartbreak, betrayal, trauma, love, loss, and the most satisfying, delicious revenge. I devoured it like a kid let loose in a candy store and loved every twisted bite.
And can we talk about the creep factor? The eerie, unsettling vibe of the dolls? Chef’s kiss. I sat there grinning like the villain I was absolutely rooting for. It’s dark, it’s disturbing, and somehow, it’s still beautiful in the most unhinged way.
Our FMC? She’s the embodiment of vengeance served cold, raw, powerful, and oh so deserved. You can’t help but root for her, even as the story dances on the edge of madness.
And the best part? This isn’t the end, it’s part of an 11-book series, which means we’re just scratching the surface of this delightfully deranged world.
So grab your favorite snack, dim the lights, and dive in. Just remember: this book isn’t here to comfort you, it’s here to crawl under your skin and stay there.
This story reads like a dark fairy tale; think Disney meets Brothers Grimm, but blood-soaked and heartbreaking.
It follows a couple who endure the worst night imaginable: she is assaulted, and he is beaten nearly to death. What comes after is less about monstrosity and more about survival, grief, and transformation.
They become “monsters,” but really, they’re people trying to live with what was taken from them. Our protagonist channels her pain into creation—crafting dolls, each one a step closer to her revenge. It’s both haunting and strangely poetic, the kind of story that asks what happens when innocence curdles into rage.
The tone is what sets it apart. Imagine a gothic fairytale lens—talking animals, magic, and the eerie calm of a world that looks whimsical until you realize how cruel it really is. It’s one story of a larger saga, and I’m already eager to see where it goes next.
P.S. THIS IS SPICY TOO! Dark romance, revenge and horror all in one (check TW).
Ashlynn really set the tone for this shared world of revenge. I’ve read a couple of her other books, but this was eerie and sadistic… in a good way!
The Dollmaker had it all. The festering jealousy and violence inflicted on her and love of her life caused a trauma that will not end well for everyone.
This is NOT a light and spooky read. It’s a tiny package of horrific and twisted demises.
Future readers, please heed to the TW and state of your mental health.
They thought they ruined her and got away with it… but she survived. And now her dolls are coming for their children 😈
Annnnnddddd, So begins the series nightmare on Lull Lane novellas starting with the Dollmaker book 1 of the Nightmares on Lull Lane by Ashlynn.
Okay, this book? Plot - Original. It was also quite creepy & tragic.
i will have admit Ashlynn absolutely nailed that mix of revenge horror and heartbreaking emotion, making you feel every ounce of pain and fury that drove the dollmaker to seek her revenge. She's not just a villain; she’s someone who was broken and as a result has rebuilt herself out of rage and grief.
The whole story had an eerie cinematic vibe, with the whole dolls, vengeance etc but for me it wasn't perfect.
I have a few complaints id like to make about this novella, and the first was the dialogue which i thought at times was quite cheesy and unrealistic, at times making me cringe, and for another, I felt the story was a bit rushed towards the end (about 89% of the way in).
I really would have liked to know more about the dolls, and instead of putting that scene at Delirium into the story and spending so much time on it, (all that smut was a little uncalled for), they should have cut that part and made it shorter to make more room on the vital part of the story which was the making of the dolls.
If you’re expecting this to be a dark romance, STOP RIGHT NOW! Check your trigger warnings. This book is NOT a dark romance, it is an EROTIC HORROR. It is PITCH BLACK. This book is not for the faint of heart, or anyone wanting a fluffy, romantic read.
Holy crap! I absolutely devoured this book. Couldn’t put it down. So much so that I reading while I was cooking dinner for my kids, which thankfully I didn’t burn. It’s currently 11pm and I’m only just finally going for an after work shower because I was literally hooked.
Ashlynn pushes all the boundaries in this book and I ate it all up… including Larry. Iykyk. If you’ve read anything by Ashlynn before, you will know her writing style is very fast paced and intense. This book was no different. I loved the little nod to one of our favourite psycho men in the book. Ashlynn gets you hooked from the start to the finish, leaving you asking… “WTF?” and needing more. We all know Ashlynn is the queen of cliffhangers. Thankfully you won’t have to wait long for the next part of the story in Hush Little Martyr, Don’t You Scream by Annika Nofal.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series!

Oooohhhh this is going to be a brutally interesting series! In The Dollmaker, we get the origin story for the nightmare of Lull Lane. Savannah, bless her heart, makes it through a traumatic event & with Tripp by her side, she plans to make the guilty pay. Biding their time and finding solace in each other comes to an abrupt end that I didn't see coming. The dolls are made. The delivery is set. Now we watch the plan unfold throughout this series. I'm excited and a little creeped out! 😊
"Two hours later, I take a long sip of my beer as I finish grilling Larry and our burgers"- (Absolutely diabolical and deserved 😭)
The dollmaker features Savannah and Tripp after a brutal tragedy which took place with them and now they seek revenge, specially Savannah and she is making sure her assaulters die in the most brutal way possible. THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING BABY.
This books was so good! It was gorey, brutal and absolutely amazing! The plot was full of depravity and was really sad too. It has no HEA with extreme triggers throughout the book. (please read at your own risk cuz its not an easy book to go through if you dont like pitch dark books like these) The spice was okayish but the plot was over the top! Totally worth it! Cant wait to read the second book!
The Dollmaker is the first book in the NOLL series and while it was short and good I felt like the book was a bit rushed. The story does tell you what triggers the events off. It’s dark and unhinged and readers should definitely check your triggers. Definitely going to continue reading this series.
What an amazing start to the NOLL SERIES! This novella had all the feels and kept me wanting to turn the page to keep reading. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series 10/5 recommend !
Please check all triggers first, this author does an amazing job of letting readers know before the chapter if there are intense triggers coming up. 📣📣
Holy fucking hell!!!! Please check your triggers! (grape) The gore, the backstabbing, the revenge, the spice, so emotional. I loved this book! I can't wait to read the other 10!! In this book you get to meet 9 of the 10 dolls and sets it up for the other books. Read this first!
Wow! Like what the heck did I just read? This is a very dark twisted and completely messed up novella. I shouldn’t have like it as much as I did. Can’t wait so see what hell is unleashed in the rest of the series.
Holy Moly! What a way to start off a series. This is the perfect read for spooky season. Who doesn’t love dark and disturbing. Can’t wait to read the others now!! Check triggers warnings!! This is not a dark romance.
This is a Horror Revenge/Tragic Romance. Book 1 of 10 in the Nightmares on Lull Lane shared world. Heed the warnings. What have I just read ? Excellent start to this shared world. Looking forward to reading more.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh.. this is going to be a good series!
Starting off the series, here is The Dollmaker by Ashlynn! It’s the perfect time of the year for something tantalisingly horrific! And I’m so excited for the rest of the series!
This follows the traumatising lives of Savannah & Tripp. After an extremely horrid instance occurred whilst at the tracks at school, Savannah & Tripp are left wanting revenge. It’s super hard hitting, the scene in question is detailed and rough. The writing is so well done all throughout & it feels all too real. Looking forward to the rest of this series. I can only hope they see some revenge, well Savannah that is. Thank you to the author for allowing me to adv read The Dollmaker
Disclaimer: Chapter “The Tracks”: please be mindful. There is a warning before you begin the chapter and it’s completely your choice if you decide to read this particular chapter.
I loved it! Its everything you need as the beginning or a horror anthology and more! Every page pulling me in even more! I absolutely loved the writing the storyline and the vibes of this book this anthology is definitely a recommendation for spooky season.
Just know its all very dark and make sure to read your TW! So excited for the rest!
This was so good! It was dark and spicy! The perfect read for October. The story is amazing and easy to understand. I loved the main characters and hated some of the side characters. There were a few things that made me uncomfortable but it was good overall.
wow wow wow.. the first of this shared world and holy heck did ashlynn start off with a BANG! i didn't know how to feel about these at first and i was worried it wouldn't be my thing.. i can't remember reading a lot about these (don't be like me,don't go in blind!) but i'm actually glad i dived straight in.. i am OBSSESED.
i've always been a fan of novellas and of shared worlds & quite frankly, this one is up there with my favourite start to a series. the erotic horror, the splatter elements.. they all speak to me but above that ashlynn has actually wrote a STORY not just blood and guts, and for that.. i appreciate it!
splatter for me can be overdone, and can be just shock value, although this did have shock value elements,it felt very fitting for the story. the fact this is listed as a romantic tragedy.. i get it! i actually CRIED like properly cried,i wont say why because it will spoil and this is spoiler free of course! but the main MC's my heart BROKE for them! in so many ways! i'll explain a little more in my ratings! keep reading!
characters? 4.5⭐️ savannah is my favourite! i also loved tripp though, they are both written so fiercely, they are written with depth but also written surface level enough to keep you reading, which for me is perfect for story 1! these two are madly in love, the taboo element also adds to it & as a fan of taboo romance/horror this really spoke to me!! savannah is the epitome of a badass FMC,she really takes everything and unleashes her power back. i love it! SO SO MUCH! tripp is the best boyfriend ever to savannah, there from the beginning & so madly in love, the delusions savannah seems to feel tripp is always there! savannah is a crazy gal,but don't be fooled, tripp is just as crazy and just as badass!! his character was a JOY to read🥹
plot? 4.5⭐️ the plot is surface level in this one,and not much world building.. but i also feel it isn't required, this is only story 1 so i don't expect a ton of world building.. we have enough to know what is happening and get a feel for the story and the revenge arc,but i feel it's intentionally more 'sparse' as a way to keep you reading (and boy does it work!) the plot follows savannah and tripp, but a few other shitty side characters too! (can't wait to see the revenge) no more spoilers plot wise though but what j will say is.. horrific... yes. romantic tragedy... also yes.
spice + gore? 🌶️🌶️🌶️ + 🩸🩸🩸🩸 she is spicy but she is gore filled aswell,in this one the spice isn't really intertwined with the gore too much which i appreciate because tbh all stories are like that and it gets boring. but ashlynn really did a great job seperating the two, while still have the relevance of both them!! the gore is quite graphic (not the worst i've seen but check tw's) and it feels really real, you almost feel the sinister acts with the characters,it makes you squirm in the best way.. what you would expect from an erotic horror!
overall? 4.75⭐️ quite easily i feel going to be my favourite shared world maybe ever. a lot of these authors i have read their works before in other shared worlds and their style speaks very much too me. as somebody who is deep in the erotic horror world now, these stories are perfect. they are NOT beginner friendly erotic horrors & please do check ALL of your tw's! beautifully written, characters that are developed and have the ability to entice you or disgust you, spice beautifully written, and gore to disgust you and make you squirm.. what else can i say? ashlynn did great with this! i loved it!😇
Talk about starting the Nightmares on Lull Lane off with a bang! Ashlynn did not hold back, taking us on a blood soaked, gorey rollercoaster ride from start to finish. This was my first read of her's, and thought it was a quick one, I was not disappointed. She has set the stage for the rest of the series, and I have a feeling it's only going to get bloodier and worse, from here.
Book one tells a sad tale of betrayal, centered around the FMC, Savannah. In the blink of an eye, her world is flipped upside down, and she's left utterly destroyed. I cried genuine tears for Savannah, more than once. I'm team Sav, for sure. And all I can really say is that I'm rooting for her and I can't wait for her to get her bloody revenge. For as sad, bloody, maddening and gorey this short story was, I still loved it. And if you enjoy...
...and more, then I think you should pick up a copy because I believe you'll love it, too. Especially if you love pitch black, because let's face it... This book is beyond pitch black. It's a splatter fest with some very dark and disturbing (to some) content. Which is why I really need you to please read the trigger warning and content lists that Ashlynn provides. No book is worth risking your own mental health and well-being. If you decide you're good with what read in the aforementioned lists, then buckle up buttercup, because you're in for it.
Which brings me to the best part of any review, the ratings!!! For 'The Dollmaker', and honestly probably all of this series, I'll be rating not only overall content and spice, but gore/violence and horror, as well. We'll get started with the horror... The horror of 'The Dollmaker' is all the things Savannah goes through and sees. She experiences things that I can't even imagine. Things that made me cringe so hard my face hurts, and for that I'll be rating it 5 outta 5 👻's for the horror. This one was a bloody, gross, dismembered mess of body horror and Splatterpunk that made me want to bleach my eyeballs after reading. Which of course made me love it all the more, so I'll be rating the gore factor a very bloody 5 outta 5 🩸's. As for spice, Ashlynn definitely didn't disappoint, making sure to add some yummy steam to counteract all the blood and guts, so I'll be rating it a hot 4 outta 5 🌶️'s. I can't tell you why I gave it 4 outta 5 overall ⭐'s, because there's a very specific reason why, and it would be a spoiler. I'll just say, if you do decide to give it a read, I think you'll know what my reason is, by the end. And I hope you'll come by here afterwards, and drop a comment down ⬇️ below ⬇️ telling me what you thought and if you figured out my reason!
🖤 𝓻𝓮𝓿𝓲𝓮𝔀 🖤 Talk about one hell of a jaw-dropping opening to a highly disturbing book! Deeply trauma inducing and a gut-wrenching start to the Lull Lane series. Count me looking forward to the rest of this twisted doll series. This book had me in the feels and wanting to seek my own revenge on the ones who were part of the diabolical plan. As an avid reader of Ashlynn, I love the way she combines excruciating dread with a heavy dose of steamy smut to balance you out.
*spoilers ahead*
In this revenge-seeking short taboo novella, Savannah and her step-brother have this undeniable attraction for each other but have kept it hidden in order to keep themselves from the eyes of the school. But after a morbid attack on the both of them leaves them for dead, they decide not to inform the police of the incident to take matters into their own hands after she has a dream of a woman speaking about a darker revenge to come. Years later, they think the past is behind them for now until a run-in causes heartache to stumble into her life.
Now, this book is the definition of check your triggers because as cute at the title may seem, this is still a work of art written by Ashlynn and avid readers will know not everything she writes has a happy ending. Especially one that is opening up to a full series based around the dolls she created and sent out at the very end. The cute moment when she names each one after a nursery rhyme was just the icing on the cake as they all acted like one of her own children.
This book had me going through all the horrid emotions. I wanted to murder some fictitious motherfxckers. I wanted to scream at my phone screen. I wanted to cry into a pillow. This was absolutely about 50 pages of unforgettable storytelling that will stay with you for a while. The perfect start to a chilling doll series and I can’t wait to indulge in the next story. A great morbid novella for the spooky season TBR.
(Please note, for transparency, this book was sent to me at no cost to me in exchange for a honest review but this review encapsulates my honest thoughts and opinions)
First things first. Disclaimer. This is NOT a dark romance. I want to make that abundantly clear. This is a horror and splatterpunk novella through and through. Please do not go into this expecting a dark romance. You will be disgusted in a bad way. And also PLEASE HEAD THE TRIGGER WARNINGS! They're there for a reason and your mental health matters.
Now that that's out of the way, wow! What a wild ride. For a novella there is so much story packed into here. This is a wonderful, powerful prequel to this series featuring the origin story of our main villain. This details why she is the way she is and her quick spiraling descent into psychosis along side the love of her life. The traumas she faced, her vow of revenge, just all of it. This book was beautifully disgusting and exactly what I expect and like from my Splatterpunk books. The violence is graphic, gorey, bloody, and once again beautifully disgusting. The story itself had me engaged deeply and I couldn't put it down! Even almost cried at a couple points feeling our villains deep emotions and feeling bad for her (especially 75% through but no spoilers in this review). I really love going into this series with a prior understanding of why this is all happening and I really do hope the people who harmed her get exactly what they deserve in the following books. I can't wait to read the other books!
The Dollmaker is book one of the Nightmares of Lull Lane, written by Ashlynn. There are 11 books in this series; aside from the first and last books, they can be read in any order. They are standalones, but they do refer back to a central plot established in book one. All the books in the series are horror, and some may edge toward splatterpunk. All of the books are considered novellas. I love this concept a lot and look forward to reading the entire series!
In The Dollmaker, we are introduced to Savannah. She has everything she could want, plus some. She has a football player boyfriend, she is a cheerleader, has more friends than she knows what to do with, and she lives in a mansion. Savannah is keeping a dirty little secret about her stepbrother, but she has been very cautious to make sure no one has found out. Things quickly derail when Savannah is lured to the tracks, and her world crumbles.
After a brutal attack, Savannah swears to have revenge on all of the people who were involved in the incident that changed her life forever, no matter how long it takes.
This was a brilliant way to start the series, building the perfect foundation for what is to come. I look forward to seeing how she gets her revenge through the dolls!
Thanks to Ashlynn for gifting me an eARC of The Dollmaker. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
WTF did I just read???😱 I may have issues, because I loved this way more than I probably should!
I was heartbroken for Savannah 💔—she went through so much and didn’t deserve any of it. The way her pain was portrayed hit me hard. And the ending? So satisfying. 🙌 I loved how each doll was introduced and created, and you just know each one will play a crucial role in the other 10 books.
This was a fast, chilling read packed with an emotional punch—heartbreak, betrayal, trauma, love, loss, and the most satisfying revenge arc ever. I devoured it and couldn’t put it down! 📚🔥 The writing was sharp and immersive, pulling me deeper with every chapter.
The concept is creepy and brilliant 👹—the story ends with the dolls being made and delivered, setting the stage for slow-burning revenge across the series. Honestly, I don’t know what creeps me out more—the book, or how excited I am to watch all the vengeance unfold!
THEY ALL DESERVE WHAT’S COMING! 😈 SAVANNAH GO GET THEM 🕷️🖤🪓 I AM ROOTING FOR YOU ALL THE WAY THROUGH! 🩸👻💀
Creepy dolls and revenge? Perfect spooky season read. 🎃👻
Definitely recommend this series if you love horrific themes and slow-burning revenge. Just PLEASE check the trigger warnings before reading. ⚠️ YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!
Happy reading—and enjoy the spooky vibes! 🎃👀
Thank you to Ashlynn and the dark romance team for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
2 ⭐ 3 🌶️ A compelling concept that didn’t fully land for me, but definitely intrigued me enough to see what the rest of the Lull Lane authors bring to the world.
Eighteen years ago, the Lull Lane Dollmaker handcrafted porcelain dolls for ten families—gifts meant to welcome their children into the world. What they didn’t know? Each doll was infused with the soul of a lullaby. Now, the Dollmaker is coming back… and their creations are ready to collect, one by one. The premise absolutely hooked me. The idea of vengeance carried out by dolls—infused with stolen lullaby souls and tied to a past tragedy—gave this story a haunting, almost folklore-like vibe. I loved the concept of a shared world with ten interconnected horrors waiting to unfold. However, this one wasn’t the best fit for me personally. While the storyline was intriguing, the pacing and flow felt a little jumbled. Scenes didn’t always transition smoothly, and some plot points—especially the moment involving cannibalism—felt out of place and didn’t fully connect with the emotional arc or revenge narrative. The revenge-from-the-dolls angle had so much potential, but I think the execution felt rushed, which made some of the details harder to follow or believe within the story’s own logic. That said, the core idea is creative, eerie, and memorable. Readers who love experimental horror concepts, revenge themes, and unsettling doll lore may still enjoy diving into this chilling new shared world.
Omfg… what did I just read?? I’m in such a daze it took me a minute to even type this review. I swear I said OH. MY. GOD. so many times it was ridiculous!
⚠️ Before I begin, please take this warning seriously! ⚠️ This book is BRUTAL… like pitch black brutal. It is NOT a dark romance, and there is no HEA for the hero or heroine.
We follow Savannah, the captain of her cheer squad, who’s dating the football captain, a guy we quickly learn has a terrifyingly abusive side. And when I say abusive… you’ll see exactly how far that goes.
Then there’s Tripp, Savannah’s stepbrother. The two are in a secret relationship, deeply in love, and planning a future together… until a nightmare unfolds that changes everything.
Savannah makes one devastating mistake: she confides in someone she thought was her best friend. That choice leads to consequences she’ll regret forever. Let’s just say… payback is a bitch though!
I don’t want to spoil too much, because this is a story best experienced blind. The emotional impact hits so much harder that way—and trust me, your jaw will be on the floor the entire time.
This book was so damn good! I’m actually mad it wasn’t longer. I need more! I cannot wait to dive into the next book, Hush Little Mary, Don’t Scream by Annika Nofal.
I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review 🖤♥️🖤♥️🖤♥️
